Arturus started at the holotable intensely.  Now was the moment of truth.  His forces were in position based upon his orders and now it was up to the crews of those ships and their temporary commanders to deliver the results.  It felt strange saying his forces.  They were technically his forces but he had never been in a position such as this before.  He never guessed that his moment would come while trapped inside an enormous stone structure in a temporary command and control room.  Ideally, it would have come at the helm of a star destroyer as he started out through the bridge viewport observing his forces and those of his enemy.  Instead of standing over the great space battlefield, he was trapped in a great land battlefield with only his imagination and some computer images linking him to his men.  It was a land battlefield outside.  The rumbles of artillery could be heard as the enemy forces tried desperately to fight their way inside the palace.  More royal guards had broken through helping to bolster the weak and decimated men holding the perimeter.  Arturus had been assured that the internal security structures of the palace would allow them to hold out until transportation arrived.  He believed that but he also wondered where the transportation would land to pick them up.  As far as he knew, there wasn't a landing pad on top of the palace and even if there were, artillery could easily strike any landing ship thus risking the rescue craft as well as the crew and the escaping personnel.  Maybe it was just wishful thinking designed to increase morale.  Either way, Arturus couldn't concern himself with those considerations at the moment.  He needed to focus on anticipating the next move of the revolutionary fleet and figure out where their manoeuvres would likely place them in the battlefield.

"Commander, the Oversee and Doashim report contact."  A technician called.

"Estimated time until the second force intercepts?"  Arturus asked.

"Fifteen minutes commander."  Was the reply.  Arturus acknowledge and stared closely at the indicator numbers next to each of the ships.  The numbers began changing rapidly as the powerful imperial ships opened fire.  Powerful was a relative word.  In terms of the imperial arsenal, they were hardly powerful but in a battle such as this, both ships had a distinct advantage on the battlefield.  The imperial ships began to split the expanded revolutionary formation as ordered.  Arturus kept a very close eye on the right most assault frigate, the Liberty as the task forces engaged.  The next move was up to the revolutionary forces.  The Overseer and Doashim would have to respond to any move made by the Assault Frigates in order to protect the rest of the task force.  So far, the ships remained on the projected course.  Maybe they weren't entirely sure how to respond.  Suddenly, the revolutionary ships responded just as the full firepower of the imperial ships was in range.

"Commander, new course headings for enemy ships."  Arturus looked closely.  The Overseer was on the far left of the imperial formation and had just engaged the Corellian Corvette Perseverance with its port guns and the Nebulon-B Frigate Resistor with its starboard guns.  The guns had reduced the shields on both ships but their generators were fighting to keep them at a high level.  It always took a while to wear the shields down initially but as the generators began to overwork, the shields started to fall quickly.  It was simply a matter of wearing down the opponent with persistent, concentrated firepower for as long as possible.  Of course that was the ideal and never happened, ships had to engage, disengage, and re-engage again as the tactical situation changed.  Nevertheless, that was theory.

As the engagement had begun, the Resistor and Perseverance suddenly changed course with both retreating back.  The Perseverance fled at an angle perpendicular to the Overseer while the Resistor managed to turn one hundred eighty degrees, a narrow move between the two imperial ships but more than possible, and retreat at full throttle back and then towards the Assault Frigate Liberty.  The Doashim had opened fire on the Resistor with its port guns while the starboard guns had lashed out at the Carrack Light Cruiser Emancipator.  The Cruiser also turned to retreat at a perpendicular angle, this time towards the Liberty thus concentrating the revolutionary firepower on the right hand side, from the imperial perspective, against the smaller imperial ships.  This at least said something about their battle strategy and Arturus give himself a minor bit of self-congratulation for successfully guessing the tactics that the revolutionaries would use.  Clearly they wanted to engage the smaller ships so as to inflict as much damage as possible and stall any damage to their ships until the secondary force could arrive.  This way they could overwhelm the larger two imperial cruisers leaving them helpless thus forcing them to surrender, withdraw, or be destroyed.

"Order the Overseer to pursue the Emancipator and Resistor at once.  I want full firepower to be brought to bear on any enemy ship within range.  Order the rest of the task force to change course immediately and try to trap the two ships in a pincer formation.  Instruct them to engage with their port guns firing in the pincer so that they can concentrate the starboard guns on the Liberty.  The Overseer is not to stop, even if the two ships it is chasing stop.  It is to chase or pass through the enemy formation so as to fully engage the Liberty.  Once in a position of being half way through the formation, the rest of the task force will move into position to take the spot that the Overseer used to occupy and will proceed in a manner that surrounds the Emancipator and Resistor.  Until that time, they should be in claw formation with the rear at the farthest point from the Liberty."  Arturus ordered.  His orders came at a brisk rate with his notorious cold, slightly nasal, monotone style.  In battle, he was far more concerned with giving direction to create the tactical picture in this mind than with inspiring or charming those following his orders.  The officers took in the orders intently before immediately relaying the relevant instructions, complete with fire control and speed orders, to their respective ships.  It seemed that now they were in battle, the captains were slightly more willing to accept Arturus' authority.  Part of him wanted to think that this was because they saw that he was competent and that they had finally accept the now deceased Kowalsky's task force directive.  Arturus was realistic though.  He knew that it was probably more because they wanted to ensure that this battle was won so that they could escape and infighting amongst commanders in the heat of battle was an excellent way to guarantee that the battle would most likely end in failure.

Now it was time to give orders to the Doashim.  He needed to split the revolutionary forces and, in particular, the Assault Frigates.  Divide and conquer was the old military maxim and it was a very successful one.  Now was a perfect opportunity to use it though he would be risking his ship in the process.  He would have preferred to use the Overseer for this but it was not fast enough to perform the duties required of it.  It was yet another reason why the firepower of the dreadnaught seemed to be a waste.  All of those guns but no speed to move them around effectively.  What he would have given for a destroyer instead of a dreadnaught at the moment.  Alas, he didn't have one, so he had to make do.

"Order the Doashim to break formation and pursue the Perseverance to its new destination.  It is to chase and engage that ship, the Nebulon-B Frigate Underground and the Corellian Corvette Hope as well."  Arturus instructed.  The final Nebulon-B Frigate, the Grand Sedition, a fitting name indeed, was in position with the Liberty and thus on the other side of the battle.  "Also send instructions stating that the Doashim is to engage and concentrate on a ship of its choosing until such time as the Assault Frigate Freedom changes course to either attack or assist the Liberty.  The Doashim's primary objective is to prevent these ships and, in particular, the Freedom from moving into position to help the Liberty and its group.  It is to do everything except ram the ship."  Arturus instructed.  His tone expressed the seriousness of the order.  The Freedom must not reach the other side if they had any chance of eliminating most of the first force before the small second force arrived.  The wildcard in all of this was the strong enemy fighter contingent.  It was incumbent upon Sentinel Squadron to keep the fighters focused on it and not concentrated on the imperial ships.  With the tactics he ordered, the smaller ships could no longer focus on fighter superiority.  That was the lonely job of an increasing depleted Sentinel Squadron with some limited help from the ships.

Rogue stood on the bridge, watching and listening as the Chief Engineer gave orders.  He could also overhear the Engineer discussing options and problems with Arturus down on the planet below.  Then more orders came in, and he felt his face contort as he heard the orders.

Arturus is either crazy, or desperate.  Or both. Probably both in this case.  Us taking on a Neb-B, a two Corvettes  and then an Assualt Frigate in this ship's condition.  Now that's what I call a long shot.  It wouldn't be  such one if all the reactors were online at 100 percent.  And if we had a full load of fighters from us and the Tiamut helping out.

At least two squadrons from the Tiamut are out there.  One's squints and the other's only droids but its better than none. I wish the other two squads were up here, but their stuck on the planet for now. Five squads would be better than three. Especially with our squadron down to 8, and the other 'ceptor squad down 2.  But our gunboats are doing better than I expected them to.

Gunboats! That's it!  Six of them can take out a Corvette.  Heck in the old days we used to do it with no more than four,  usually just a single wing pair.  It will mean depriving ourselves of some of our overstretched fighters for a while, but it will take care of one enemy cap ship.

"Commander,  can I have a moment of your time?" He inquired of the Chief Engineer.

"What is it Lt? I am kind of busy at the moment." Ferran replied.

"Sir,  this ship isn't up to taking on two corvettes,a frigate and an assualt frigate.  Both you and I know that. Now I heard Arturus orders for us to take them all on, especially the assault frigate.  So unless we all want to die,  we have to find another option. And I've got one." He explained.

"And that would be what LT?" He dragged out Rogue's rank as if he was trying to imply something.

"The gunboats sir. We have six of them out there. Lt Krytal and her unit can easily take care of one of the corvettes.  It means pulling six fighters off the line, but it will kill one enemy cap ship. And it will let us focus on the Neb-B." Rogue put out there.

"And how does taking six fighters from the engagement to take on just one ship help all that much?" Ferran asked.

"Simple sir. It takes one enemy cap ship out of the fight meaning we have one less ship trying to pound on us." Rogue explained. "Sir we're running out of time. We don't have time to argue about it. We have to get rid of as many enemies as we can otherwise we're dead.  Arturus said to do everything we can, short of ramming them."

The Engineer's face contorted as if he was trying to think it over like it was simple engineering problem. It was no wonder he was still only a chief engineer instead of ship captain. He didn't have it in him to take a risk and throw it all out there. He played it safe, staying within calcualated risk factors.  Rogue was just the opposite. He was a fighter pilot. Had been for all his adult life and a good bit of his teenage years.  When he flew , it wasn't by evaluating and calcualting things. He just picked out a target, threw full power to the engines and weapons and went right for the target. He took risks by the sector full.

"Sir while your standing here and thinking about it, men and women are dying out there." Rogue hit him with.  "And I can't stand for that."

He left the Engineer standing there and walked over to the com station. He told the tech to get him Sentinel  Seven quick and give him the mic.

"Sentinel Seven, Doashim." He called.

"Seven, make it fast base." Lt Krytal replied.

"Sieana, its Rogue. We're in a bad way. But I need you and yours to take out the Corvette that's escorting that Neb-B we're heading for." He explained.

"Who you to give out orders Rogue?" She questioned.

"Sieana, we don't have time to argue. We're out numbered and on the danger of being out gunned. The ship's being run by the Chief Eng. He's got zip for real combat experience.  And I've been doing this for longer than both of you. So get your boats on that Corvette. We'll take care of the one right in front of us." He sent over.

He closed the channel and turned back to the Chief Engineer whose face was reeking a combination of anger and confusion.

"Sir, we can either argue now, which will probably end up with me in the brig, or we can table this for now, work together, take out those ships and maybe make it home. Your choice sir." Rogue announced.

"I don't want this ship destoryed, so this can wait til the Captain is back aboard. He can deal with you then. But for now, let's deal with these rebels." Ferran replied.

Rogue watched the plot as the gunboats either finished off the bandits or disengaged to go after the corvette like he had ordered them to.

I'd kill for my Hammerhead to be aboard right now.

He would have so rather been out there with them, but there were no spare fighters aboard the Doashim at the moment. All there was, was a shuttle and a couple of small transports. And those would be needed to get the rest of the officers and crew off the planet. The Doashim was currentt in between conversions, so she had only two small hangars fitted. The rest was weapons space and troop berthing.

Troops?  That's it. We're carrying a lot of troops aboard. So at least one of those transports much be an assualt version. And any assault version would be armed.  A TIE/Bc boarding craft would work, because it looks like a TIE Bomber still.

He used the secondary console he was standing next to, and called up a list of the remaining small craft on board.  The original convoy to the planet had taken the both of the ship's Sentinel landing crafts and her Lambda shuttle.  All that was left was a single DX-9 stormtrooper transport.

We used a DX-9 on that operation on Nal Hutta. Their fairly well armed, they just manuever like a bloated pig.  If my memory serves, each as two forward lasers, two forward ion cannons, a warhead launcher and two laser turrets for defense.  But that was then. Whatever they have now will have to do.

"Commander, I have another idea." Rogue spoke.

"What is this one Lt?" Ferran asked.

"We've got a good sized number of troopers aboard and we're close on this Corvette. Why don't we try to take her and turn her on her counterparts?" He suggested.

"Close with and board her? That's suicide Lt." Ferran replied.

"I didn't mean us sir. We've got one stormtrooper transport aboard. I'm qualified to fly them. Let me take it and three squads, maybe a platoon and try to take the corvette. If we fail, we've only loss the transport, one more pilot and another platoon of stormtroopers." He explained.

"Its risky. I don't like it." Ferran replied.

"Yes sir it is risky. But it is a way to prevent more damage from occuring to this ship. And if it does fail you can blame me." Rogue suggested.

That struck a nerve with the engineer. His face contorted again, but finally cleared up.

"Alright Lt. Take the transport and the platoon. See if you can capture that corvette. You wont have much time to do it, before we will be forced to destroy her."  Ferran explained.

With that Rogue spun around and left the bridge, heading for the hangar. He grabbed his helmet from the chair he had laid in upon coming to the bridge on his way out. He would need it just in case. He ran down the corridors until he reached the shuttle/transport hangar bay.  He raced into the bay to see four squads of stormtroopers loading into the DX-9 waiting there.  He found the officer in charge of the platoon, and had him hussle his men aboard, including have two man the two remote turrets that provided the transports defenses. Rogue went forward to the cockpit and strapped into the pilots station, then started up the transports engines. Unfortunately, he couldn't rush it this time. He had to go with the standard start up program.

Finally the transport was ready to fly, and the hangar doors opened. He firewalled the engines and raced out to get away from the moving ship. Which the strike cruiser wasn't going all that fast. But the high power launch did make it look like someone was desperately trying to leave the ship. He brought the transport around and dropped under the Doashim's belly. He would use it for cover til he got past her bow and made the run on the corvette.

To Arturus' relief, the Tiamut deployed the rest of its fighters on Will's command and now they were less disadvantaged in the fighter category.  The first minutes of battle on that front would still be very important.  Arturus knew from experience as a pilot that in a large battle such as this, the rate of initial success often said a lot about what the final end result would be.  They needed to strike hard and fast, doing as much damage as possible in the early stages.  He was confident that Sentinel Squadron was up to the task; he was less confident about the other squadrons.  In particular, he was extremely sceptical about the usefulness of the droid fighters.  He wasn't one to trust technology and in a dogfight where human instinct and experience was critical, he felt that a droid was entirely unequal to the task.  Droids may be well programmed and able to handle many different tasks, even at a complex level, but nothing fully compensated for a human mind which could manipulate its opponent and draw on experience to overcome the challenge of even a more skilled and experience pilot.  The human mind was deeper and more complex than any artificial intelligence.  Droids could only compare a situation rapidly to the millions of programmed scenarios in order to find a pattern and determine the next move.  In the end, it was entirely based upon empirical data.  It could only react to what had been done before.  Anything knew, anything a bit different, anything innovative would be harder to counter.  Therefore, the more experienced the enemy, the less effective the droid pilot.  Nevertheless, they were stuck with it and the firepower would be useful to some extent.  Half a glass was better than an empty glass after all.

Arturus stared back down at the holotable.  The heavy fighting was beginning.  He wished he was onboard his ship now looking out.  Even though he still couldn't oversee how the other ships conducted the battle from their perspective, nothing replaced being able to witness the battle play out right in front of you.  The fluctuating numbers of the screen only told part of the story.  How the changes were being caused required more than simply interpreting the orders he himself had given.  He needed to see the rate of fire, see the destruction, and see the small things a ship captain can do with his ship in order to get an advantage, in order to get a full picture.  Alas, he would have to make due but he felt overall, it limited his ability to use his skill to affect the outcome of the battle.  Arturus looked with particular interest at the Doashim which he had sent off alone.  He knew the ship was capable of taking on the Corvette and Nebulon-B Frigate simultaneously with relative ease.  It would be a long battle but the Strike Cruiser should always emerge victorious without too many problems.  Adding the Assault Frigate into the mix put the advantage squarely in the hands of the revolutionaries, but not enough so as to make the manoeuvre entirely reckless and suicidal.  Dangerous, challenging, perhaps even a bit risky, but it was doable if everything worked out according to plan.  The one thing acting against the Doashim was the man currently in charge of commanding it.  What Arturus would have given to have another officer in command.  He watched with interest as the Doashim opened fire on the engines of the Corellian Corvette Perseverance as it fled towards the Nebulon-B Frigate Underground.  From what Arturus could tell, the rate of shield decline caused by the Doashim's bow guns was the standard rate.  Arturus cursed; Ferran was an idiot.

"Put me through to the Doashim at once."  Arturus demanded.  A technician passed him a commlink with a secured line to the ship.  The technician that came on wasn't sure who was calling given that there already was another secure line to the Doashim being used by Amason.

"Doashim, identify yourself."  The technician ordered.

"This is the captain, I want to speak to Commander Ferran at once."  Arturus growled.

"Aye sir!"  The technician responded as soon as he learned the identity of the caller.  Everyone on the bridge knew never to mess with Arturus when he had this tone.  They knew never to mess with him period but at times like this the rule was especially true.  It was during one of these times that Lieutenant Vansic, the communications officer, was arrested by Arturus for gross insubordination and dereliction of duty while in battle.

"Commander Ferran, what can I do for you Captain?"  Ferran responded a moment later.  It was far too familiar a tone.

"Drop the familiarities Commander; it is neither the time nor the place."  Arturus snapped.

"Aye Captain."  Ferran responded, his tone decidedly more serious and less congenial than a moment before.  Sometimes Arturus wondered if Ferran realized he was in the middle of battle.  It wouldn't be the first time the man was far too nonchalant about the situation outside the ship.

"Commander, why the hell have you not ordered the firepower of the bow batteries to be increased.  You are chasing a ship with its engines exposed to you.  That ship is going to rendezvous with others meaning you will quickly be outgunned and yet you do nothing to reduce this by attempting to severely damage, if not disable that ship."  Arturus was shouting now.  This latest display of incompetence had pushed Arturus' last button and now it was time to give Ferran a complete piece of his mind.

"That was not the first thing that came to my mind Captain."  Ferran began in response.  Arturus bit his tongue to prevent a wisecrack from going out.  That wouldn't be the right response though the temptation was extremely overwhelming.  "Remember though Captain, we have still not completed the full inspection of the power conductors in that sector of the ship.  The simulations are not complete so we do not know if the increased power to the weapons is even possible.  If we increase it and the conductors cannot handle it, we might have a power spike in that area followed by a complete power failure if the conductors and systems meltdown."  Ferran protested.  He was so protective of the ship that Arturus believed it affected his overall command judgement.  More and more he regretted not keeping Amason on the ship.

"Commander Ferran, I left you on the Doashim to command the damn ship, not to act as a paranoid mother to every nut and bolt of it.  We are in the middle of battle and I need you to increase the power to your bow guns immediately.  I know the ship has override systems to get past the power limiters you put on the bow.  I also know that there are emergency systems in place to prevent an overload if the power conductor fails, I am not stupid.  I know how my own ship works and I know how hard I can push it.  You have been given a direct order, I want increased forward firepower at once until such time as you need to re-route power back to the starboard and port guns.  I expect these orders to be carried out at once!"  Arturus roared into the commlink before killing the connection and tossing it back to the technician.  The other ship captains turned from their orders to stare at the now beat red Arturus.  Some of them considered intervening but decided against it.  Pushing him now could be disastrous.

Arturus turned back to the holotable.  The right side of the Imperial formation was completely engaged with the left side of the revolutionary formation.  To his pleasure, the ships were in the formation he requested and the claw attack on the Liberty was keeping it at bay and creating minor strain on its shields.  The Overseer had suffered some initial serious bombardment as all of the capital ships and the fighters targeted it, but the Imperial fighter squadrons and the other ships had managed to disperse this concentration before it could weaken the shields by a significant amount.  In fact, the ship had now fully recovered its shields and was fully engaged with a pair of revolutionary ships.  Arturus looked to the fighters.  They hadn't lost anymore and it appeared that the revolutionary forces had lost five.  This pleased him.  They were making the crucial initial gains which would begin to turn the fighter situation in his favour.  Suddenly, he noticed the gunboat unit of Sentinel Squadron break formation and race past the Overseer towards the Doashim.  Arturus picked up a commlink and contacted Sieana Krytal.

"Sentinel Seven this is Captain Hargraves, report your actions."  Arturus demanded.

"Captain, the Doashim has ordered that we make immediate attack runs on the Perseverance and Underground in order to disable and capture the Corvette."  Krytal replied.  Now this was news.  Had Ferran finally figured out how to command?  That couldn't be the case; he had served too long in such a similar manner.  Who ordered such an attack then?  Arturus liked the idea; he liked it so much he was kicking himself for not thinking of it.  Capturing a ship would be an excellent way to help turn the tide.

"Order one flight of the droid squadron to escort Sentinel group two, and find out who was the true initiator of the capture order."  Arturus said to one of the communication techs.  The order was sent and the technician reported about half a minute later regarding the initiator of the order.

"Commander Hargraves, the Doashim reports that a Lieutenant Rogue gave the order.  He is piloting an armed transport that just left the hanger."  The technician replied.  Arturus smiled.  Same old Rogue.  He was delighted that Rogue had returned and to his unit.

A turn for the worse. Speculation of how Sentinel was doing formed as a fighter dropped from the skies. First trailing smoke, now fire. Vasili watched from the ground as the fighter swirled in a tornado-esque descent. First trailing smoke, then flame, it made its way to the horizon, sending branches and animals of flight into the sky as the ship made contact. Petrified by seeing what he just went through from a different perspective, he could only cringe as the horrific sound wave emanated through the field he was standing in. No parachute in the air. This one was in the trees.

Vasili's legs started moving before his thoughts did. Smoke was now forming over the tree line, just to the right of the Palace's visage ahead. The downed pilot was running as fast as he could towards the scene, despite the chance that it might be an enemy. Herd animals, logs, underbrush, nothing was a match to Vasili's superior mobility. Half way there he found himself wheezing and out of breath, the aftereffect of alcohol and smoke. He leaned against a tree and spit out.

Blood? Was that blood?

It was. Injuries unknown  had taken place within Vasili's body, most probably from his unconscious landing. They weren't hampering him, so as soon as he caught his breathe he stood up and jogged off.

The day had turned humid since the banquet had started. The air was hot and sticky, and the effort needed to wade through the air was apparent in Vasili's form. As he jogged, he shed his suit jacket (expendable with the multitude of others on board the Doashim) and his tie, leaving nothing but his light button up and the bottom half of his suit. The usually off white button up was darkened with sweat, the human side of taking such a strenuous run. A run where Vasili never took his eyes off the smoke.

The crash wasn't far away now: smoke filled the forest and tree limbs were broken and covering the ground. The path of the crash was clear as well, the downed fighter leaving a burning trail behind itself. Soon, the identity of the fighter was apparent as bits and pieces of a TIE interceptor popped up in flaming heaps every now and then. Vasili picked up his pace knowing which side the downed fighter was falling for.

The scene was pretty bleak. Burning vegetation, TIE wreckage lining the path to the fighter, scorched earth below, battle raging above, war afflicted palace in the distance, and right in front of Vasili laid the mangled TIE interceptor that moment ago had been spiraling to the ground. Vasili hesitated in his movement as he assessed the situation.

Damn, damn, damn...

What the hell happened up there?

Why didn't eject, you friggin' egomaniac?

What am I gonna say if you're dead?

What if you're from my Squadron?

What the hell am I doing?! I gotta get in there!

He sprinted over to the entrance hatch, which had conveniently rolled over to face him. The hatch, under the extreme duress of the crash, had bent open, and with a little manual effort, completely opened to reveal the cockpit. Inside was a big of a wreck as outside. Wires hanging loose from their hidden interior compartments, screens cracked, instruments broken, but most noticeably, a pilot laying limp in the chair. "Hell no..."

Vasili clambered inside. The straps holding the pilot in were still in place and intact. He worked his way in, shoving aside the wire-vines and hanging metal as he trekked a meter to the pilot. The flight suit revealed no further information about the person, besides the fact that he, or she, was unconscious if not dead. Yanking at the straps fettering the pilot yielded no effect, instead Vasili pulled out the knife he had transferred to his pants once he ditched his jacket and started to work on slicing the fibers. Cutting them was a meticulous task at easiest in the crowded cockpit made for one. It was steaming hot, sweat dripped in Vasili's eyes so he constantly had to pause to wipes his face with his sleeve. Eventually the bonds came loose and gravity shifted the free body momentarily before Vasili caught it. He pocketed his knife, grabbed the body beneath its arms, and dragged it to a safe distance.

Vasili sat back against a tree and closed his eyes, taking in the vast amounts of oxygen that were lacking in the cramped space of a TIE. He took relaxation in the cool air, desiring a cigarette more than anything, but quickly remembered what was going on and crawled to the body he just dragged out. Upon closer inspection, Vasili found multiple ruptures in the suit bearing cuts on the pilot's skin, most significant being the cracked helmet. Vasili held his face in his hands as he thought how to approach this. If the pilot's neck was damaged, taking off the helmet could break the bones completely. He gingerly slipped his fingers under the rim and, as gentle as possible, slipped the helmet off.

With the now fully revealed face, V's senses were at full alarm. He fell backwards at the face of his wingmate, Aeos. Half her face was bloodied, similar to Vasili, but her skin was pale and she looked lifeless. "Oh god... God no!" He was at the brink of tears staring at the crashed pilot. "There's no way.."

Frantically, he fell back towards Aeos and put his ear by her mouth. No breath. He touched her skin; warm but fading. He placed his fingers on he neck; a pulse! Joy returned to him, he sniffled up his nose, and thought quickly what to do. He placed his hands just below her chest and said a little prayer. In intervals of three, he thrusted his palms down on her. Nothing. He placed his ear by her mouth again. Still nothing. More intervals of three. Nothing. Breathe? Nothing. He pushed harder, and finally blood pumped out of Aeos' mouth. In a stupor, Vasili kneeled by her, grabbing her head in his hands. Her eyes shot open as she gasped for air. Vasili laughed in release, a twisted, thankful laugh.

Aeos caught her breathing and looked around in a tremor, trying to convince herself she was alive. Vasili was practically hugging her seeing tat she was ok. She caught his stare and focused on him.

"V.. Vasili?" her bloody lips managed to release.

"Quiet now, darlin'," Vasili pleaded for her well being, his voice shaken from the shock of it all, "You'll be alright... you'll be fine..."

Aeos managed a meek nod before closing her eyes again, this time just in sleep. Vasili brought her to his chest and rocked back and forth in stress, this time tears surfacing. Death had never been real to him, and even though Aeos was still alive, he'd never witnessed death this close to someone he knew. It was all too much. A weak spot was revealed and exploited in Vasili. He decided to wait it out before heading off to the Palace.

As energy returned to him and Aeos, Vasili made the decision to press onward. It was almost dark now, and the Palace lights were the only guidance back to the Empire. Grabbing what he could (he made sure to bring Aeos' helmet to try and get a Comm. connection), he picked up Aeos by her back and behind her knees and began to trudge towards the illuminated citadel before them.

The trees were quiet as they walked, the only sounds were of battle and the labored breathing of Decembrist and the soft breathing of Aeos. Vasili needed no company right now. No music to drive him, no beat to control him, no tune to dictate him. His drive, control, and dictation were all being fed by survival. Survival for himself and for the woman he was carrying in his arms. The bond he felt to Aeos at that moment was not one of duty, but of instinct. They were going to get out of this alive; they would go back up to the air.

Vasili was so determined to make it to the Palace now, he barely heard the voice of Aeos coming from right in front of him.

"Vasili..." she called out, fully awake now.

V interrupted. "Woah, darlin'. You alright?"

"V, yeah, yeah I'm fine," she said as she rubbed her head wound. "How'd you.. get down here?"

"I was first out of the sky. Figures, right?" A little smirk.

"Vasili..."

"Yeah?"

"Are you carrying me?"

"Yeah."

"Put me down."

"Take it easy there, hotshot, you just managed to survive on nasty crash. I can manage to carry you to the Palace. " He didn't stop walking. "You best build up your energy anyways, I feel there's gonna be some fighting." The words took a perfect affect on Vasili's injured Squad-mate. She had already fallen back asleep.

They were close to the Palace, and up ahead movement could be seen.

Rogue had the DX-9 hugging the Doashim's belly as her bow guns plugged away the corvette Perseverance. Arturus would probably be mad that the Doashim wasn't blazing away with all her forward firepower, but that might overload the corvette shields and penetrate her hull before he was in position. So he had Ferran only using the ship's forward ion guns to take down the 'vette's shields. Once Arturus actually found out what Rogue was trying to do, he would understand. Or he will just shoot me.

Suddenly, a flight of droid fighters came racing along, followed by a pair of Sentinel gunboats. He still wasn't sure about these droid fighters, but at the moment they need all the help they could get. As they opened fire on the corvette, he expected just laser fire, but instead, these Mark II TIE/d's opened up with ion cannons. It looked like one stream from each, which meant only one cannon per fighter. But both gunboats boasted a pair of ions each, as did his transport. He shoved the throttle to full and accelerated after them.

"Sentinel Four to Sentinel Gunboats. I'm in the transport behind you. Cover me while I make the run into dock we the corvette." he ordered over the com.

He didn't recognize the voice on the other end of the com, but that was to be expected. He still hadnt become familiar with all the pilots of the gunboat half of the squadron. But both gunboats rolled in and opened up with their ions. He had to wait to do the same, since the transport didn't exactly accelerate like a fighter or gunboat did. Even a missile boat without the boosters accelerates faster than this pig.

So far none of the enemy fighters had picked up on them, they were too busy with the other newly arrived fighters from the Tiamut. Finally, the lumbering transport was in weapons range of the corvette. Which of course meant, they were in range of the corvette's turrets. As he opened up with the transport's ion cannons, he caught sight of one of turrets swinging round, tracking on them. He started to yell a warning out over the com, when one of the droid fighters came racing in, spitting laser and ion fire. Whoever was operating that turret, must of thought the fighter was more of a threat than the transport, since it spun to track the fighter instead. Ion and laser fire from the gunboat, droid fighters, his transport and Doashim played across the corvette's shields, until they gave with a flash.

Finally someone on the corvette figured out what the transport was there for, and laser fire started splaying across the transports shields. He started swinging the transport from side to side, doing what he could to keep the lasers from overwhelming the shields. But he had to close the range on the corvette, so he couldn't do much with the horrible manuevering capaiblites of the transport. At this range with the shields down, torpedoes or missiles would enough damage to get them onboar, but they would also damage sytems he and his men would need to turn the corvette on the enemy. The only other choice was ion cannons, so he again sent orders to make sure the gunboats and the Doashim used only their ion guns.

"Sentinel Four to Doahsim. We'll take it from here Commander Ferran. Take the ship and get after that Neb-B. " he sent over as if he was giving the orders on this one.

"Alright Lt. The corvette is yours" came Ferran's reply. Rogue could hear the relief in Ferran's voice at the idea of the cruiser not having to deal with the corvette any more. But now he had to worry about if Ferran would take the ship in to engage the frigate. If he did, he would have to close the range, to overwhelm the frigate's defenses. If he tried to stay at range, it would be a stand off that would just soak up time, power, and lives.

Beams of electric blue light played across the corvette's hull as the ion beams did impacted and worked their magic, shorting out all the electronics on the ship. With the shields down, it only took a matter of time, to short out the engines and bring the corvette to a halt in space. As soon as he saw the glow of the engines go dark, he ceased weaving and raced up from astern, skimming right over the engines, and the remains of the upper communication antenna. His first plan had been to get around and dock with the either the main cargo bay or one of the main airlocks on either end of the ship's hammerhead shaped bow. But he didn't have time for that now. He had to try along the ship's spine. There were two spots available, one between the com array and the double turbolaser turret, and the other in front of the turret, between it and the bow. The problem was, both areas mounted armor under the ship's outer skin.

No time to dicker over it. Just gonna have to do it and risk it.

He cut the forward thrust and triggered the manuevering thrusters. At least dropping like a brick was something the transport did well. He triggered a burst from the dorsal thrusters to stop their motion, just time to slightly cushion the impact. The transport slapped onto the corvette's hull, and he engaged the grapplers to keep them their.

"Now Lt!" He yelled back into the passenger compartment. The stormtrooper Lt had his men waiting for the order and upon Rogue's yell, they engaged the special hull-cutting mechanism built into the airlock on the transport's dorsal side. The passenger compartment quickly filled with heat of the torches cutting through the corvette's hull, and with an exploding thud, the circle of hull dropped into the corvette's topside corridor. Immeadiately, the stormtroopers began dropping inside.

Rogue unstrapped from the pilot station and made his way aft towards the airlock, pausing only to grab a comlink and a spare flechete launcher from the weapons rack. He waited until all the stormtroopers were through then went through the airlock and dropped into corvette's passageway. He landed with an umph, lost his balance and fell to the floor. Ow! That hurt a lot more than it should have.

He stayed on the floor long enough to shuck his helmet and slip the comlink's earbud into his ear, before yanking the helmet back on. He listened to the Lt give orders, sending two squads to take the bridge, and the other two down to take the engine room and backup bridge. Since the Lt was following the two squads to the bridge, Rogue followed the two squads heading aft. He was proficient with a lot of hand weapons, more proficient than a lot of fighter pilots. But he was still a fighter pilot, and storming an enemy ship wasn't something he had a lot of training in. So he stuck behind the stormtroopers and let them lead the way.

He watched as the stormtroopers traded blaster fire with the corvette's crew, working up their way down the passageway. Razor sharp flechette rounds spat from the trooper's launchers with thumps, and raced down the passageway to slice through anything they came in contact with.

"Sgt! Flashbangs! Use'em! We don't have time to get bogged down here!" Rogue yelled to the squad leader.

Pins were pulled and grenades flew down the passageway. Rogue and the stormtroopers made sure their helmets were on tight, and visors were down as brilliant flashes of light from flashbangs and the hissing sounds of gas grenades filled the passageway. The squad leader waited for predetermined count, then the first fire team bolted down the passageway, blasters and flechette launcher spitting death. It took nearly another five minutes to secure the rest of the top passageway. When they reached a companionway or a ladderway, flashbangs and gas grenades were tossed, flechettes and blaster fire rang out, and on they moved. Any resistance was immeadiately returned with deadly results, in the manner made famous by stormtroopers through the galaxy.

Eventually with Rogue in tow, they fought their way to the small backup bridge. It cost them two men to take the the room, but take it they did. Rogue stayed with two men and the two wounded on the backup bridge while the remainder of the two squads when on to take the engine room. He found the command station and started trying systems diagnostics. If he was going to get this ship back into the fight, he woul d need help from theDoashim.

Suddenly the comlink rang with the call that they had taken the com center and the bridge. That meant they had control of the ship, now they just had to get her back online. Rogue left the wounded men in care of their guards and headed up to the bridge. He had to get a call through to the Doashim.

"I don't care what you think Commander. I need some of your engineers over here now!" Rogue yelled into the com unit aboard the transport they had come over in . The corvette was basically drifting in space at the moment, with the majority of her electronics still out from the ion cannons of the VE ships. The stormtroopers that made up the assault platoon new all about storming a ship, but they only knew a little about getting it back functional. They needed some of Ferran's engineering people and some of the Doashim's deck crew to fix her.

"Lt, I will not be yelled at in this manner by an officer under my command." Ferran replied. "I simply cannot spare anyone right now. We are barely keeping this ship up with the Captain's demands for action."

"Commander, I'm sending the transport back to get the people we need over here. HAVE THEM WAITING IN THE HANGAR BAY OR I AM CALLING THE CAPTAIN PERSONALLY!" He yelled into the com then shut it off. That should make him comply. He won't risk crossing Art's temper. He pulled his helmet back off and dropped in the copilot's chair, then stood up and stretched. He headed back to the airlock and climbed down the ladder they had extended from the transport's hatch. It made getting between the corvette and transport a lot easier.

Once in the passageway, he made his way up to the bridge to check on the two combat engineers that had come along with the assualt platoon. They were doing what they could to get the ship back online, but they needed help and equipment. The stormtrooper Lt was also there, keeping an eye on things.

"Lt, can any of you men pilot that transport?" Rogue asked.

"Yes sir. Two of my men are cross trained to handle transports, so we are able to operate independently." The Lt replied.

"Good. Have them take the transport back to the Doashim and bring back the engineers and crew we need. I want this ship back in the fight ASAP." Rogue ordered.

"Yes sir" came the reply. The comlink followed and the Lt gave out the orders.

Minutes later that portion of passageway was sealed off and the transport was on its way. As soon as they returned, and the repairs were started, Rogue would take offical command of the corvette and get her back into the fight. But it would take a good bit to get her operational. The two combat engineers from the storm trooper platoon had their work cut out for them. Until that transport got back, he had to put his trust into those two.

At the moment, the biggest risk was an enemy fighter getting through the droid fighters and damaging the corvette critically. Those droid fighters were their only protection until they got those engineers. It was a race against the clock now. And if the cosmos had their way, it was going to be a highly tensed wait.

"Shields are 78% down!"
She gripped her controls so firmly, so very much panicked as her usual planned swerves and dodges were a mixture tumbling around in hopes of avoiding  enemy fire.

A high whining emitting not only from her engines, but from the fighter as whole pined through the air as it sped towards the planet's surface. It failed to spin around even as gravity took hold of it.
"Sentinel two is going down!"
Was it Jaden voice? Or Rogue's?
Her head was swarming around in a cloudy mist. She bent down to pull the lever under her seat which would eject her from her craft. Gripping the rough edges she pulled as her slender gloved fingers enclosed it. It jammed.
Shit.

"V...put me down this instant!"
"We are almost there darl'"

She managed to waken to a drowsy state of consciousness slumped over his shoulder.
"Vee, trust me, put me down,"

Vasili paused momentarily. They were a hundred meters or so away from the palace. Already showers of blaster shots could be heard. His somewhat pale face whitened even further. He slowly took in a deep breath.
"And out....slowly," she tried to coax him from behind his back. He gently lowered her to the soft grass beneath their boots. For a moment neither spoke as they both absorbed the scenery around them despite the sound of dying blasting everyone and a while followed with echoes of screams. Lush leaves jumbled in hordes on branches which protruded sneakily through the air  from master branch rooting into the ground. The sun played around around merrily with the dust particles in the air as it fell through the open spots of the branching ceiling of flora.

Aeos unzipped her air-tight gloves from the black sleeves of her uniform. Vasili's eyes narrowed as he spotted another smaller, more compact glove comforting her left hand.
"What happened there?" he asked curiously as he ventured himself over to where she was seated underneath the small tree. He sat down beside her, curious.
Aeos shook her head,
"Not now,"
She started shaking the glove, and out came three or so pills from what he could see. He grinned.
"Smart girl,"  he muttered as he accepted her offer of a painkiller and healing agent.
"Army," she bluntly muttered propping an array of pills into her mouth and chewing it  to tiny bits allowing it dissolve. He suspected she had propped in a stimulant as well.

"We rest for a few and then move on, might as well be some help to whoever needs it in the palace," he muttered softly as he gazed at to the palace. His  misty eyes were troublesome, and it was the first time she has managed to see him without his glasses. Grey. Not a colour she would expect.

"Don't worry," she said trying to offer a form of comfort to the pilot. While she felt little stress about facing a raging collection of enemies, she almost failed to remember the skilled yet novice male pilot beside her has yet to experience death, brutality and risks on the battlefield. She just hoped it wouldn't kill his spirit.

She stuck her hand into her boot. He looked at her confused.
"Now, I don't even do.....that's just disgusting,"

She grinned almost lop-lopsidedly as her DC pistol made it's appearance. A vibroblade protruded from the other boot.
"Take your pick, hopefully we can get some rifles," she muttered as her grin disappeared. Vasili nodded solemnly. His hand shot to the pistol, but hesitated before it slowly drifted to the sleek blade in her other hand.

"Take the pistol, you might be more at ease then a vibroblade," she said pushing the pistol in his hands noticing his hesitation. She started pulling her glove back over her hand.
"You fine to do action in this state baby?"
A fist slammed against his bicep.
"I guess so..." he managed to murmur through clenched teeth not expecting such a hard blow from her.

Both their faces dropped their slackened relaxes features as a  red  hued bolt passed right through the overgrowth in front of them, at them.  They bolted away from each other as it slammed against the tree they were seated at. A dark soot covered the bark where it lit up momentarily as it wood made connection with pure energy.

"Vee, run!" she she shrieked grabbing his arm and trying to drag his frozen body away.
Vasili regained control over his motor functions, his brain clicking to an emergency state. Aeos found her self soon being outrun by Vasili and it was his turn to guide her through the thickening trees from which he carried her. Vines nipped and slashed at their exposed face, and every once and a while, a knobbly root crawling over the grass would pose as an obstacle. Vasili glanced at  Aeos. worriedly. She  was paling a shade light by every minute, the small rest they had, clearly not being sufficient.

He felt his body jolting back as she made a sharp turn to the left, if there ever existed an left direction between the trees. But instead of continuing their assault of running against the forest, they stopped. Vasili, confused, followed Aeos' example and pressed his back against the tree they were using as a hide-out.

Their pursuers knew of the sharp turn they took, but failed to notice their presence behind the tree.
Aeos' braided head peeked from behind the trees at their disappearing shadows. As soon as it seemed safe Aeos turned around to Vasili. He stared at her. With raised eyebrows of suspicion.
"What?" she asked smiling innocently.
"Lemme hear it,"
"We climb the tree,"
He stared at her again. His previous suspicious features now replaced by an blank gaze. She snapped her fingers bringing him back to the reality before pointing up at the nearest branch.
"Ladies first Vee," she whispered softly with a grin, making a sweep bow gesturing to the branch.
He snorted.
"Why should I go first?
"I'm to short to reach it,"
"Just step on my hand,"
Shrugging her shoulders, she accepted the arrangement.
Rolling his eyes he lifted her with a soft grunt as she stepped on his hands nestled with each other. She grabbed the branch with ease and swung her leg around. Within minutes he joined her on another branch sweep over the forest floor. Carefully balancing her self, she stood upright.
"You will shoot your target right?" she asked hesitantly at Vasili, silently doubting his ability with firearms.
"Don't worry darling, someone should be able to die today, " he replied with a witty wink.
She refrained from commenting and allowed a peaceful silence to pass through the leaves and branches as it moved with the winds. Vasili also managed to bring him self on his feet, though with a lot more difficulty, and Aeos stifled her laughter at his outstretched arms. He quickly squatted down to the bark again. His cocky grin remained however.

"I guess, those idiots will realize we are back here huh?"
She nodded and squatted down as well.
"Lets hope so, I think I'm gonna need some stitches soon," she muttered as tried to rake her blood caked hair. A wince of pain etched across her face ever now and then as the roots of the hair tugged opened cut.

Aeos, Vasili, Rogue...all out of commission for some time.  Atleast Rogue is doing something, but the other two, we're not even sure if they're alive.  Rogue's taking command of the Corvette Perseverance...thats excellent.  We need to get a bit more organized here....

"Sentinel Commander to Sentinel Group one, 5, 6, form up on my wing ASAP.  We've still got two flights of Z-95's out there, and two flights of R-41 Starchasers.  Lets see what we can do....," said Jaden

Jaden was instantaneously interupted as he finished his sentence.

"This is the Doashim.  We now have control of the Corellian Corvette Perseverance.  Second Lieutenant Rogue will now be taking command of the Corvette along with a skeleton crew making minor repairs at this point in time.  Sentinel leader, I'm going to let you decide on how to take care of the fighters in the area.  I'm not demanding that you clean up all of the fighters, just keep them off of the Perseverance while they finish up repairs," said Commander Ferran

"I can understand that you really need our help at this point Ferran, but there is no chance of us being able to protect the transports, and the Perseverance at the same time!  We've got three fighters and six gunboats, those gunboats being used momentarily to make a run on the Correllian Corvette Underground.  Unless you find something to suffice, we are going to stick with our primary objective of escorting the transports," said Jaden

"You realize Lieutenant, you are violating a direct order," said Ferran

"Yes, I realize this, but I've got two pilots on my wing.  One of my other pilots is commanding the Perseverance, and I have no clue in hell where the other two are.  In all seriousness sir, this engagement is so un-organized that I really don't know where to put myself or my squadron at this point.  For now, I'm ordering the gunboats to keep popping out torpedoes at the Underground, but also I'm letting them know that they need to keep a close watch on the Perseverance, because our flight has no where near enough fighters to do this all at the same time."

"Understood commander, make sure you get to those fighters pronto.  Officers are still on the ground and it is now dusk if not night fall by this time in their area.  Those transports need to get down planetside within the next 15 minutes, do you read me on that?"

"Understood Ferran, Sentinel Commander out," said Jaden

He instantly shook his head after closing the com line.  He was amazed at the fact that Ferran didn't even think about how many pilots that Jaden had to work with.  Half of the flight was out of the air, wouldn't that be something to quickly pick up on? Know that there was only 2-3 droid fighters left besides the interceptors.  Air superiority wasn't theirs at this point, but yet the commander instantly skipped over thinking about that.

Jaden checked his display terminal.  6 transports were following the fighters quite slowly.  One of them seemed to be having trouble with their number two engine, but was still capable to making it planetside and helping pick up the officers.  The rest of the transports seemed to be banged up a bit, but nothing serious.  It was now time to distract the fighters some how and get the transports planetside.

"Transports, change your heading for vector B-7.  Its a straight shot for the palace on the planet.  Full throttle people, and On a Whim, hows that number two engine doing?" asked Jaden

"Seems as though it is holding currently, but we are fluctuating power to it, attempting to get just a bit more out of the engine then what we are utilizing right now.  We're going to be hanging by about 5 MGLT in speed compared to the other transports..." said the commander

"Understandable commander, make sure you try to keep up as best as possible," said Jaden, "Platoon transport, once you get close to the palace, set down and let those troopers tear loose.  We have officers down there that my be injured, so make sure you get your medics deployed as soon as possible.  Lets get this job done people"

Jaden kicked the fighter around and headed straight for the R-41 starchasers.  He hadn't even bothered with letting his wing mates know that he was engaging, but he should have.

"Sir, I know it looks like a good idea to take out those starchasers, but T-wings are closing in on the transports, and they are coming in quick," said Daniel

"You two take care of the Z-95's, you should be able to handle it.  I'll run up on the starchasers and give them hell for a bit.  Just make sure that not one of those enemy fighters gets a hit in on our transports, especially transport On a Whim," said Jaden

The fighter spun through space as Jaden twisted the control yoke.  The starchasers were beginning their run on the Doashim.  It looked as if they were heading straight for the engine housing.  Jaden jammed the throttle to full and linked up his laser fire.  If he could get a few hits in on one of the fighters, he would be able to pick on a couple of the others and hopefully seperate the flights and keep them tangled up whilst the transports made their way planetside.

The redicule lit up green and Jaden let loose on the trigger.  Green bolts splashed out of the Hornet Class Interceptor straight into the aft of one of the attacking R-41 starchasers.  He quickly pulled the trigger a couple of more times, taking out the shields and ripping right into the hull.  With a quick switch and a few seconds to lock on, Jaden sent a missile hurdling towards  the fighter.  It was done for.  Within seconds the combustion had began and debris was being scattered out in all directions in the immediate area of the fighter.  Jaden didn't stop at that.  The next fighter veered away from its course a bit, but it didn't take any looking to see if Jaden's fighter was still trailing the flight.  Half of the task had been completed.  The two flights had now seperated, and it looked as if one of them was heading straight for Jaden, but he had been busy with the other, watching in horrification as the 3 remaining starchasers in the flight headed on to make their attack on the engine housings of the Doashim.

"Sentienl leader to Doashim, I've got starchasers coming around the Dorsal side of the cruiser, coming just above the engine housing.  Either they are making a run on it with bombs, or they are planning on tearing the housing apart with missiles.  I managed to clip one of the starchasers and take it out, but now I've got the entire other flight coming to their rescue.  I would suggest getting some of those guns on the fighters as soon as possible," said Jaden

"We are turning all firing turrets in the area towards the fighters.  Thanks for the heads up Sentinel Leader, we've got the fighters your worried about," said the leader

"Not all the fighters.  There is still another flight of starchasers about 1.5 klicks from my position.  I'm the only one currently in my formation, the other two pilots are taking on the Z-95's," said Jaden, "If you could get...NEVERMIND!!!!," Jaden yelled and shut the com channel down.

It was suicide.  One fighter, an interceptor model at that, being engaged by 4 R-41 starchasers, pretty decent pilots, and still knowing that the other three could be coming at any second.  Jaden kept thinking on this as he jammed the throttle to full and skimmed down under the belly of the Doashim.  The starchasers followed, but Jaden's fighter was much faster than theirs.  He forwarded some of the shield strength towards the engines, pushing the fighter to nearly 185 MGLT.  The starchasers vanished behind him as he pulled up in an arc and came around the top of the Doashim.  As the starchasers came up around the Strike Class Cruiser, Jaden knew it was the end of the line for them.  Turrets ripped open at the site of the fighters, throwing them into a spiral of confusion.  Jaden let out a chuckle at the site of this.  He hadn't even though about the turrets on the starboard side.  Two of the enemy fighters had now lost it, ejected, and let their fighters drift away in space.  Jaden wanted to do a fly by and destroy both of the pilots, if they weren't yet dead, but he knew that it was a waste of time.

The other two starchasers were barely holding on with no shields and 25% hull.  Their shields were beginning to rise though, which meant it was starting time again.  Jaden pulled out the linked laser fire once more and tracked the fighters down, pummeling them with every shot.  They attempted to get away, but it was no use against the veteran pilot of the Vast Empire Navy.  One after another, both of the fighters went down.

Jaden checked his monitor.  The three starchasers that were going for the engine housing seemed to have done some damage, but he could find no record of the fighters what so ever.  The Doashim turret pilots had done themselves in today.  They must have been some pretty good gunners to take down nearly half a squadron of R-41 starchasers.

"Sentinel leader to Sentinel Flight 1, Starchasers are down, how is it coming with those headhunters?" asked Jaden

"Half of them down, and it looks like the other half of them are falling back to their respective capital ships.  We have air superiority sir," Alexander Granite, the modest pilot, unlike his ever so congratulating sister.

"Hold your horses their son, we've got Two more flights of Starchasers heading in.  Looks like they are being launched from one of those assult cruisers," said Jaden, "You two get on those fighters, I'm going with the transports to make sure they make it planetside in one piece, or six, whatever you call it"

Two hours. Over two bloody hours. Nearly three.

It had taken forty five minutes, nearly an hour for the transport to get to the Doashim and back with the needed support personal. But finally the transport had docked with the still disabled and drifitng corvette. Once on board, the engineering team got right to work, under the eye of a grizzled out CPO. But even with the CPO's pushing them hard, it had still taken over an hour to see some kind of results, with the steadily draining power coming under control. Another hour after that, the first of the engines had been brought back online. Two more had come online shortly after that.

He needed them to get four online to give them enough speed to even think of getting back into the fight. Course, if he was to take the Corvette back into the fight, the engineers had to get the turbolaser turrets back online as well as the shields. A corvette could only take so many hits, so much damage without shields to intervene, before it would be out of the fight again, if not destroyed altogether. And Rogue wasn't the type to throw people lives away uselessly. So he forced himself to be patient and wait. To give the engineers time to complete their work.

But waiting wasn't excatly something Rogue did well. It wasn't something he did at all normally. He was a man of action. The waiting he ever did was the time it took to plan things the right way. That or the time in hyperspace it took to get to places. He paced the bridge like a predator tiger, stalking for its dinner. Finally in fustration and to let the others there concentrate, he left the bridge and started walking through the ship. His first destination of sorts, was the forward main cargo hold. It had been purged of atmosphere for some reason before he and his men and boarded the ship, and repressurizing it hadn't been high on the list of priorities. So he hadn't been able to look in it before. But not all of the engineers could work on the engines, so they worked on other areas. One of those areas had been to close the main cargo hold and repressurize it. That sealed up the front of the ship's hammerhead shaped bow. Which was another step in getting her ready to get back into the fight.

He used the access panel to open the doorway and entered the cargo hold. There he got quite a surprise. A series of metal beams were stretched across the cargo hold in a particular pattern. And he knew what that pattern was. The beams formed a series of braces designed to hold upto six fighters with certain styles of wings. And the most common two types of fighters with wings that would fit the braces were the X-wing and the older Z-95.

Six Z-95's in here, held by braces, maybe two more of the same or different in the topside secondary hold would be a total of eight. So with two corvettes in their fleet, thats 12 to 16 fighters right there. Add in the rest of the ships as well as on planet bases and that explains where all the frakin' fighters came from. Now we just have to figure out where the those cap ships were hidden.

Too bad there's none left in here. It would be nice to take one out and use their own fighter against them.

He grunted in frustration and left the cargo hold, sealing it behind him. He headed back to the bridge. The way he walked, it was a short trip. He stepped on to the bridge and yelled for a report.

"Chief! Report!" yelled Rogue.

Vasili stared at the bodies blankly, his face vacant of color and emotion. Aeos sat beside him on the branch, her breathing uneven. She gently reached over to his hands and dislodged the pistol from his stiff fingers.

Aeos stuffed it back into one of her not so clean boots before she petted the massive cut that ran throug her thick dark plaited hair from her ear to the low neck. A soft scab has formed but thick blood still managed to ooze from various open spots. Her azure glance left its myopic state and flicked back to her wingmate, a few weeks, two months ago, he would be her squadmate. Vasili's grey eyes stared at the bodies. Sure, he shot down pilots and men down before. But the would die in their cockpits, this direct confrontation with death was not what he could have expected. Even all the Imperial brainwashing could prepare him.

Aeos sighed. The two enemy troopers did a backtrack when they realised that they had been tricked. As the reached the small clearing with Aeos and Vasili staring at them from above, their lives quickly ended as Vasili open fired and Aeos' vibroblade sprung loose from her hands.

"Come Vee, lets get to that damn building, its dark already," she muttered tiredly and weak. And indeed the sun was dying in a magnificent display of colors in the sky, and stars made their appearance faintly.

They made their exit off the branch tiredly and scurried over to the bodies hoping to find something of use.

For awhile all was silent as they scavenged in the darkness.

"Vee....you would fit in these clothes...right?"

She studdied the shadows of his frame, a new light flickering in her eyes. In the dark a flash of white revealed Vasili's grin.

"Brilliant,"

The night air was brisk. While the sun set, the temperature dropped with it. Vasili knew this because he was in nothing but his underwear. His wingmate's plan to change out of their flight suits and into enemy clothing was a great one; the process of doing it wasn't so. He grumbled as he sorted out which piece went where from his new outfit, forcing himself to leave his good suit behind. He did the best he could to hide signs of blood from the lifeless body he removed them from. He grumbled more at the tight fit. He hated wearing other people's clothes in general. Uncomfortable other people's clothes? Forget it. He wanted out of this situation. Unfortunately, it had to be done. Lament was all there was to be felt. Or was there?

As Vasili took off his undershirt, an image popped into his head. Aeos was doing the same thing; that is, changing into disguise. Perhaps something more leisurely could be fit into this adrenaline-packed agenda. Vasili quickly through the ratty clothing on and went off crawling in the direction of the privacy Aeos gave herself.

The shadows of the trees and the underbrush provided the perfect cover for Vasili but also hindered his sight to a minimum. He could hear Aeos, and see her from the knees down and the clothes on the ground from his prone position, but through the darkness and plants nothing of interest could be spotted. Wow... gotta see more of those legs...

As quietly as he could he shifted to a better position. But he was poor in the stealth department. His not so amazing legs snapped a twig. Aeos caught wind of the sound, grabbed her makeshift disguise and ran off quietly out of sight.

Oh damn... where'd she go?

Vasili was pushing himself off the ground when he found out. His face and chest slammed on the dirt and something blunt dug into the back of his neck. "See anything you like?" the familiar female voice asked in a dangerous sounding tone.

"'ey Aeosh..." Vasili worked out of his smashed face. "Read-y 'o go?" The loading of a pistol was the answer. "'ou pointi' tha' a' me?"

"Don't move... I don't want to hit myself in the foot." Vasili knew she was taking aim, and hoped he knew she was kidding.

"'ey! Take i' eashy!" He tried again to push up, but was forced back down by her foot.

"If you don't want me to shoot you, repeat after me." She waited a moment for acknowledgment.

Vasili nodded as best he could under the pressure of Aeos' heel.

"I was caught trying to get a look at a pretty woman..." she started, commanding Vasili to follow. She is sick.

"I wash caugh' tryi' to ge' a loo' at a pre'y woman..." Vasili repeated. Real sick.

"I am a pervert and I am no better than the dirt I am laying on..." If it wasn't for that gun...

"I am a perver' an' I am no be'er tha' the dir' I am lay' on..."

"I don't deserve to ever move from this position." Laying in the dirt, unable to speak, a girl in a triumphant pose atop me with her foot digging into my neck. I sure hope the guys back on the Doashim don't hear about this...

"I don' deserve to e'er mo' from this positio'!" Just get offa me!

"Good boy." The pressure relieved from the back of his neck an Vasili rolled away to face his attacker. She wasn't smiling -  a surprise to Vasili, who thought she must've gotten a kick out of this - in fact, she looked mildly angry.

"Was that really necessary?" The male asked while rubbing the back of his neck.

"Was your sneaking necessary?" Aeos responded, sounding annoyed.

"C'mon, darlin', take it as a compliment," Vasili put on a pretty-boy smile for her.

"Shut up Vasili. Remind me to kick you in the face when we have the opportunity. I can't hurt you right now, I need you to get me inside the Palace. And who knows? Maybe I'll get you in too." She turned and started walking off, sticking the blaster back in her boot.

Vasili sat still for a moment as she walked away, shocked at the way his Squadgirl was treating him. Surely he didn't do anything to deserve this. All I saw was the legs... I suppose they COULD be worth it. No.. didn't see enough. She's gonna drive me crazy...

"Hey!" he called out, panicking and hustling to his feet. "Wait for me!"

Prick,
She angrily kicked at the rock that stood in her way.
Vasili has decided to keep himself away from her at a comfortable distance, knowing the seething Imperial would kill him if the trigger went off.

"Aeos..."
"Shuttup," she snapped as she continued her stomping through the forest.
She squeezed her eyes tight shut for a second as she tried to calm down.
Which of course worked miraculously.

Vasili found himself surprised as the not-so-calm hotheaded female from minutes before turned around slowly yet calmly.
"yes?" she asked in a light voice.
Deciding not to tempt fate, he chose not to put any pressure on the broken skin of the situation.
"Our own guys will be shooting at us,"

"Yes, you are right," she muttered through the darkness and shadows of the trees. The small war raging at the palace however served enough of beacon for them to find their way.
"Any suggestions?" she asked again.
He shrugged.
"You are the ground expert between us," he replied.
Nothing was said for a few moments as they stood at the edge of the forest. The smoldering palace grounds in front of them. Their smoldering wreckage of fighters crafts a mile or two behind them.

"So...why calm?" he was an fool for risking the question. He knew it as well.
"Right now I have better things to worry about then your pervertedness, which by the way, you will pay for. Subject closed."

He cringed and allowed a small mischievous grin to cross his features.

"Isn't there an entrance to the palace underground?" he asked.
"There should be, its an old building, despite the modern glamor its cursed with,"  she answered crisply.
"Wasn't the Arm guys handed a map of the building?"  asked Vasili He tried to stifle a tired yawn.
"Chance is, that the path will be blocked,"  she answered thoughtfully.
More silence went on. Vasili plopped himself down on the ground, keeping his stolen rifle firmly gripped. He closed his head, and allowed his head to drop back, leaning against the soft bark of the tree. He jerked awake when spoke again.

"We need grapple guns, and a comm."
"Grapple guns?" asked Vasili with raised eyebrows.
"The entrance will suicidal, we need to get through one of the windows, once we are in, we can drop our disguise," she muttered.

Vasili got up from his seated position and ventured himself to her side.
"Sounds good, 'cept, where do we get grapple guns?"

*******

"That was way too easy ,"  he muttered as Aeos delivered the final fatal blow to the poor victim's head with a heavy rock. Both were hesitant, but after throwing dice at how to approach it, they finally made their way over to where they suspected the small base of the enemy was situated. Once there, they managed to find the supply tent. It was mostly empty, luckily for them, except for one poor bloke who had to  check everything that came and went.

Deciding that he asked to many questions, the pair, or rather Aeos disposed of him. Grabbing everything they needed, as well as two helmets, the two decided to quietly sneak out by means of cutting a small exit through the fabric of the tent which was situated at the edge of the forest.

"They will soon be suspicious, and alert everyone once they find the dead guy, we need make it quick,"
muttered Vasili worriedly as he strapped the helmet tightly.
"I know," she muttered reply as they dropped in a heavy jog, forcing them closer to the palace, leave the edge of the forest with a circle.

Two rebel fighters made their way around the battle as best they could. They ran as quietly as they could, they didn't want to bring attention to themselves. The ruse worked, as they weren't stopped from their run. The Palace loomed in front of the two rebels, illuminated by the battle being waged. Aeos and Vasili had found their way to grapple-able window undetected. Neither knew what waited on the other side, and hopefully they wouldn't get shot by assumption they were breaking in.

Vasili looked up and down the wall, wondering just how the hell he would be capable of such a physical feat. He examined his grapple gun, trying to figure out its mechanical mysteries. He glanced over at Aeos, who had already stripped her helmet.

"Just aim and shoot," she said unenthusiastically at Vasili's confused face.

"Right," dropping his arms, "Ladies first."

"Not this time." His angry squadmate wouldn't yield danger to herself. "If there's guns on the other side of that window, you're the one who'll be the first to see them." Obviously she had harm to Vasili dead set in her mind. This is a battle he wouldn't win.

"Right..." He aimed the gun at the window and fired. It broke through and grabbed onto something.    Vasili tugged at the rope, making sure it would hold. He looked over at Aeos again. "You know darlin'... if I don't come back, don't resort to alcohol to ease the pain my loss gives you. Have more respect for yourself." He winked and ran at the wall.

The rope pulled up for him and he began to defy physics. Walking up walls isn't an everyday ability, but Vasili was doing it here. As he walked up, he couldn't help but smirk at what Aeos might be thinking and doing right now. She probably had her rifle pointed up at him, trying to convince herself to pull the trigger. Nobody would know that he survived the crash... Nobody would know he made it this far. Vasili saved himself from this imaginary fate by making it to the window. He pulled himself in clumsily and looked around. The lights were on, but there was nobody home. He dropped into the person-less room and looked around. Jewelry, mirrors, fancy drapes: it was a girl's room. Ignoring the temptation to pocket a couple expensive looking necklaces, he wandered over to the window and waved Aeos up. Quick reflexes saved him from being hit by the anchor end of her grappling gun.

"You almost hit me..." he greeted her.

"I missed," she responded, walking by him and towards the door.

Pocketing his grapple gun, he joined her. She was peering out now, a long hallway went down on either side. Voices could be heard echoing from the right side of the doorway.

"OK, what's the plan?" V asked of Aeos, the senior of the two. "You have your rifle, you have your eyes... aim and shoot."

"Ladies first?" he asked already knowing the answer. Aeos smiled and shoved him out the door.

The two hugged the wall with rifles high. Vasili was feeling jittery, being this the first time he knew the opposition had the ability to kill him. It wasn't a bar fight... this was real. He was kicking himself for making Aeos do this to him. The voices echoing kept getting louder and louder and soon shadows appeared from around a corner. Vasili's breathing intensified. The voices' bodies strolled around the corner and without hesitation Vasili shot the first in the leg. Yelling curses, he fell to the floor, his partner in shock with surprise. Aeos, army trained, ran over to the other and shoved her rifle in his face.

"Drop your weapons," she ordered calmly. The scared enemy obeyed.

Vasili lowered his gun. "Oh hell, Aeos. These aren't the bad guys."

"I noticed," as she kicked the dropped weapon away. "Good job shooting him. That'll help when we try to get to our boys." Sarcasm. Vasili was getting used to it by now. "Pick him up," she now ordered V.

"I'm gonna carry him?"

"Unless you want to drag him."

With a lot of effort, the injured Palace Guard was lifted over shoulder. Tired and hurt, it was a hard walk with this weight on him. He lagged behind as Aeos lead them.

"Sorry about Decembrist here... He's a little jumpy with a gun," she explained to the uninjured guard.

"Who the hell are you two?!" The guard asked asked as Aeos loosened her grip.

"We're Imperials. Pilots. We crash landed."

"Ya right! You look just like those uprisers!" Aeos shoved him ahead.

"Lead us to where Commander Arturus is."

"The hell I will!" He stumbled back to his feet. "Why am I supposed to trust you?"

Aeos sighed. "I really hate it when people ask that question." She tossed her rifle to him. "Vasili, you too."

"Kinda hard with this..." a grunt as the guard shifted, "... on me."

"It's ok," the guard able to stand said. "If you were hostile you would've killed us both. Follow me."

Aeos and the guard jogged off, leaving Vasili to hobble along with the heavy guard on him.

As V stepped onto the balcony over looking the makeshift command center, all eyes were on him. Aeos was talking to a highly decorated man, with the guard that lead them there with them.

"Ah," the man called out to break the silence. "You must be the crewman Decembrist. Drop the guard, and come here."

Note: This post may be a bit messed up as I am a bit messed up in the head currently.  I'm suffering from a mild concussion that occured during an assault a couple of nights ago, so, please bear with me for the next few days while I recover.  It took me a half an hour alone to write all of this.  I'm terribly sorry.

Jaden let out a bit of a growl of anger.  The transports were moving too slow, but they were just beginning to enter the atmosphere.  Jaden's fighter was in decent condition, shields holding at full and hull holding at 75%, but the engines were running hot.  The heat gauge had been rising in the past couple of hours, nothing serious, but if the fighter didn't go into maintenance within the next couple of hours, the heater core would go, cauzing Jaden to freeze to death, or, the core would just blow, killing him instantly.

"Sentinel Leader to flight one, how are you two coming with those fighters?" asked Jaden, getting ready to enter the atmosphere with the transports.

"Starchasers are floating around, but there's not enough of them to do any real damage to the transports.  We're sticking to them though, seeing if we can push them back to their capital ships," said the sister, Daniel Granite.

"Alright, hold those fighters.  The transports and I are coming through the atmosphere.  My ETA to the palace is about 5 minutes.  I'm going to open a secure line with Commander Arturus and see what he wants done.  Hopefully he knows where the rest of my pilots are," said Jaden

"Affirmative sir, we'll keep up the work out here.  The droid fighters that we still have are intact, but they've landed on the Tiamut for rearming and refueling.  We'll be able to stick it to them for a while sir, but what are we going to do about reinforcements?" asked Daniel

"I'm not so sure on that yet, I'll speak with Art and see whats going on," said Jaden, "Sentinel Commander out"

Jaden cut the com line and patched one open with Art.

"Sentinel Commander to Doashim Leader, requesting landing approval at palace," said Jaden, "The transports are about through the atmosphere, my ETA is 5 minutes from the palace."

It took a moment for him to respond

"Doashim Leader here, you are not yet cleared to land.  I've got your pilots standing right here, and I'm looking at the battlefield myself.  AA guns have been knocked out, a lot of the ground troops have been knocked out, but we're not sure on the total number on the ground yet.  I'm still seeing blaster fire surrounding the palace," said Art

"Sir, one of the transports thats holding a Platoon of troopers currently is having troubles with one of its engines.  I suggest we atleast get On a Whim on the ground and get those troopers spread out," said Jaden, "How are my pilots?"

"They are in good condition, but they seem a bit banged up.  Nothing too serious, but I would like to see them back in the air.  I'm looking through my radar calculations currently, are you the only pilot escorting those transports?" said Arturus

"Unfortunently, Yes sir.  My other two are up there cleaning up fighters, and Rogue has taken command of the Perseverance, which I'm sure you already knew," said Jaden

"Yes, I was aware of that.  Drop the platoon transport on the ground behind the palace and let the commander deploy them as he sees fit.  After we've cleared up some of this mess, those transports are coming to the ground and we're getting out asses out of here.  Do you have atleast one completely healthy transport available for the royal family?" asked Arturus

"Well, they are all banged up a little bit, but we've got atleast one that will work for the royal family.  Would you have that one set down along with the platoon transport and get the royal family out of here before this gets any messier?" asked Jaden

"Yes, have another transport set down behind the palace.  I'm cutting the chatter now.  I'll be sending you more orders upon the delivery of those troopers," said Arturus, "Good luck, and god speed"

Well, this was roughly typed in 15 minutes:S Sorry I couldn't get everything done Jaden, but I just wanted to give you and Vee something to work with,

"You!"
Vasili grunted in surprise, and almost allowed his face to redden as a few faces glanced at him and the woman shouting at him.
"What?"

She crossed the small distance between them, and pushed him in the direction to where she wanted to move.
"We need to off the ground, Art says Jaden needs some assistance.
"There's no ships at the mo,"
"You, don't worry about that and keep your focus on yourself, you're good at that."

**

"What?"
"A Hornet?"
"Two you idiot,"
"But-"

She cut him short by turning crisply on her heel heading to the bee-like shadow emitting from the fighter.  As soon as she was secured in her seat, she took a glance at the controls and dashboard in front of her.
Oh shit...
Not everything seemed to be situated exactly as she was used, and while it wasn't that much of a deal, she knew it made the difference between life and death in battle.
"Ae, we're gonna die, you realize that baby?"
So, he got a look at his alien controls as well.

"Shuddup, get in the air, stay on my tail," she snapped. She heard a sigh from the other side between their connection.

"Take it easy, girl, kill me after the mission, at the moment, you will make it both difficult for us their, as well as for Jade,"

"Well, watch your mouth, you might find yourself accidentally hit by some NR,"

After a few moment, two fighters shot out from the small make-shift hangar created on the grounds.
"Sentinel One? This is Two, "
"Two, is Three with you?"
"Three is here, One,"
"Good, how far are you away from me?"

"Close, just need to get some altitude,"
"More like a lot of that," grunted Vasili.
"We'll be there soon One,"
"Get your ass here, we need to escort the On the Whim

"Don't shoot up too fast, we are actually within the atmosphere, Two, you take On the Whim to the ground, Three, I need you here for the others, over and out."

Aeos pulled back on her speed and as her fighter came to an almost pluttering speed of a turtle, she waited patiently as a huge craft made it's way through the clouds.
"I guess the big one that just came through the clouds is mine One?"
"Yep,"

"Good, see you later!"

She shot away from Vasili as she joined with the transport's side, which began it's descent slowly even though it was still far away from the ground.

Alright.

Save the transports, save the day, get the girl.

Well, the girl's gonna get me. And not in the way I like it.

"Sentinel Three, Decembrist, I see you comin'. It's good to have you back."

"Can't say I enjoyed the landing, but the journey wasn't bad. It's good to be back up here, sir."

"I had no doubt you would survive the crash. When I heard you were with Sentinel Two though, I was surprised to find out you were still alive."

"Why would you think that? She totally digs me."

"Somehow, I don't believe you."

As he joined up with Jaden, Vasili realized there wasn't much threat against the transports right now. They were holding their position above the clouds, waiting for permission to land. As the two siblings of Sentinel fought off the remaining fighters, the small group of pilots of the landing party were left to themselves.

"Alright Decembrist, just before you got here I talked to Commander Arturus. He wants a fully functional ship for the Royal family to get out on. On the Whim has an engine out, the officers will come up on that one. I need to you take the next transport down for the Royal Family."

Vasili slowed off to Jaden's tail and waited for the transport to pull out. "You got it, sir."

The transport broke out and Vasili followed, staying close and keeping an eye out for trouble.

"Sentinel Two, this is Sentinel Three, you out there?"

"You just can't leave me alone, can you?"

"Hey, this time it's business. You have the first transport on the ground?"

"It's just about landed. I'm about to contact the Commander and get him out of there."

"I'm bringing another one down. Tell Arturus to bring the Royal Family with him."

"Got that. Get down here fast."

The borrowed fighter leveled out next to the cockpit of the transport and Vasili gave a thumbs up through the viewport. The transport descended faster and within two minutes had reached the ground.

"This is Doashim Leader. The troops are out, as many of the officers as we can fit are on board, and the Royal Family is good to go. Could we have an escort, please?"

(OOC: Sorry for the incredibly short post... just wanted to move things along before I leave.)

My friends tell me I should run. They say that she's got a gun; but that just turns me on. Right on.

"Two, they are taking too long, we don't  have time!"
"Roger that One, I think I'll take a quick landing,"
"No, wait, Two-"

She cut the connection between them briskly and pushed her throttle down as she started to execute her decent on the planter once more, this time however, much more gracefully then her previous crash.

It was difficult as another war of blaster bolts broke out between the two powerful forces.
She stepped out from her craft, and allowed her gloved yet banged-up hands to touch the grass as she jumped from her seat. Despite the gloves, she felt a warmth spread through her, as the gravel ground embraced her presence from above. She took a last glance at her craft which she manage to tuck away neatly from stray fire blasts. She brought her arms up, and fell into a swift jog heading straight for where she calculate the transport was.

Everything from above looked like a tiny map, but trying to live in the map proved to be very bewildering and confusing sometimes for her especially. Her dark azure eyes did not meet with the maybe dead bodies littering the planet's surface, and her ears fell death upon the weeps and cry of men who at the last second lost their brave masks, who's voices were reduced to an infant's cry of terror at life, weeping for their mother's comfort.

So it was with shock that she brought to a halt when a hand reached out for her, and grabbed her around her ankle. Bitting her lips, trying not shriek she spun around shocked, and stared down at the burned flesh on the ground.  Her eyes narrowed.

"I can't. You know how it goes,"  she said, a muscle in her brow sprung as a frostiness tried to creep through her voice. The being in front of her made an inhuman sound, muffled by blood and coughs. Clenching her fists, she sunk to her knees biting back the bile that threatened to rise. The stench of burned flesh...he was already decaying. His soul already lost. And he seemed to know it. However, something stirred in her, for the first time since she was deployed on her first mission as an lowly Private. She gently attempted to turn him around, and allowed his head to rest in her hands.

She reached for the the small flask of water she always had at her side and gently tried to pour in a few drops. For a moment she had to grab his whole body as a pain convulsed through his body, racking him with cries.

"Gwove....glowo...glofe..."
"I don't understand, she muttered softly in his ears, allowing her temple to rest against his head, her lips almost touching his ears. She turned her head at his hand, which he seemed to try and controlling into doing something.
"Glove?"
She reach for his hand, and as gently as she could, she tried to peel of the fabric. A soft mixture of a gasp and sob broke over her lips. His hand was almost untouched by whatever fire it was that terrorized the rest of him. It was strong, a few marks of age ran across it as wisdom embedded itself in the soft folds of his palm. A dark gold glimmered around one of his fingers. Knowing what he wanted, she pulled the ring off, and tucked it neatly into on the shoulder pouches of her flight suit. She instinctively went for the pouch on his sleeve. It was almost burned to nothingness, and parts of the fabric clung to the small card she pulled out. His dog tag. Fireproof, assured of identification.

She placed it with the ring without glancing at it. His hand grabbed her hand, surprising her slightly at the strength he managed to pull her hand away from his chest, guiding it to her horror to the blaster pistol next to his side. Her face paled considerably.
I can't....

**
Yet, I did...
She pushed the saltiness away from her eyes, and forced the rock down her throat. She had orders to follow. She was already on her way returning to her fighter, having been assured the Royal Family has boarded along with as many officers the transport could manage.

**
She brought her fighter to hovering a few inches above the ground.
"Two checking in. Escorting transport with package." she muttered in the Comm trying to keep her voice normal, unstrained.
"Take away Two," replied Jaden..

The death black interceptor twirled through the air as Jaden did a barrel roll of joy.  The transports were off the ground, he had two wingmen, and they were heading back into space.  Jaden could only think of the joy of accomplishing something, not the fact that he was about to meant his near death.

As the interceptor climbed into the atmosphere, Jaden noted that On A Whim had its number two engine back up and running.  The troopers and the Royal Family were all now in their respective places, which also gave Jaden a feeling of assurance.

Jaden began to check his displays, making sure that no enemy fighters were in the area, and he was correct.  Things had slowed down a bit, but he was still unsure of what was going on outside of the planet.  Arturus had been picked up, so had Amason, but Jaden' hadn't a chance to talk to them since they cut all comm chatter.  If the enemy listening posts picked up the fact that the officers were being shuttle back to their respective ships, the enemy would surely through everything it had towards the transports, and that wouldn't be good, because they were now but sitting ducks on the playing field of the enemy.

The plan was to rendevous with the STCR Doash and get the Royal Family aboard.  Their safety and well being was the number one priority for the mission now, but Jaden wouldn't think of letting that get in the way of his number one goal - Make it back to the Doashim, alive.

Since leaving the planet, Jaden had been having mixed feelings about himself as a pilot, and, as a commander.  Had he been showing off?  Or had he really done good so far?

Jaden wouldn't let the thought continue through his mind, so he pushed the throttle a little further down the line.
