Shazam coughed gruffly, hiding his fist at first beneath his armpit, but then relinquishing it to check if the sputum was the same nasty red color it has been since yesterday evening.  Seeing that it was the familiar and, comparatively friendly, yuk that he'd seen in the past, he gave an abysmal smile and rubbed the excess on the seat of the transport.

"Docking now, Commander."  Shazam dropped his head onto his shoulder, checking down the center aisle to check and make sure the pilot wasn't looking back for approval.  Since the beginning of the flight the man had stumbled twice, dropped a dish and nearly unsealed the airlock after 'mistaking it' for the refresher.  Shazam lifted an eyebrow, brushing the top of his lip, momentarily swearing himself for not allowing the mustache and beard to grow.  Then, as if, though his initial analysis told him the pilot was a klutz, some inner-conscious knocked his sensibilities on it's but and said- "But I bet he's a good guy..."  Shazam didn't let it bother him and turned to the small window to his right- the hanger bay of the Doashim wasn't quite as clear and clean as it had been only a few months ago.  Of course, a half year ago Shazam had been leading Nazgul into battle with the Doashim at his side.  Since then there had been various renovations to repair heavy damage, though Shazam knew that Arturus probably took pride in every re-modeling, saying to his executive officers whenever he passed- "It builds character!"  Shazam chuckled to himself, realizing that, though Art might say something like that, he'd probably round on one of his officers if they'd said it instead.

"Welcome back, Sir," the young attendant at the bottom of the ramp said only moments later.  Her eyes glinted in the suspended light and, despite the rest of the place looking like the aftermath of a millenia-long war, she appeared quite clean and neat.  Her hair was put up in Naval fashion while her clothing appeared fitted and almost new, as if this was the only chance she'd had to look such a way in far too long.

"And good it is to be back, Madam."  Shazam walked with as straight a back he could, making sure that the pilot caught his entrace.  "How's the wife and kids?"  The commander shrugged at last and lowered his overly-pompous posture.  Madam Meyiri smiled cutely at him and said politely-

"I am quite fine, as is my child.  Poya is still out on patrol, but he should be back soon."  Shazam remembered the dark haired man, his mustache simply mocking him every time he saw it; maybe Meyiri had made him shave it...  "He is one of five pilots on board right now- massive reconstruction had to be made on half of the ship due to extensive damage in a battle about two weeks ago..."  She spoke softly, but Shazam manged to pay attention as he surveyed the electricians and mechanics across the walls of the hanger bay.

"Yea- I like what you've done with the place..."  He pointed to the divide between the Imperial white wall and the gutted extension beyond, it's panels torn out to reveal the loose wiring and burns crawling through some of the infrastructure.

"It will take some time, but we should be up and running in about fifteen days...  The Captain is waiting for you on the bridge- I think he is excited to hear you've come."  Shazam grinned once again, knowing that Arturus might deny the notion, but was glad Meyiri had told him so.  Five minutes later they'd reached the final corridor before the bridge, the walls and floors in perfect condition compared to the hanger from which he entered.  "Stop by the medical wing some-time; Poya and I would love to hear what you've been up to since last we spoke."  Shazam nodded and said-

"Only if you wanna hear how many ways I can re-arrange my office..."  She smiled and waved goodbye, leaving in a hush as she usually did.  Glancing down the corridor, Shazam rolled his neck and re-sumed his best 'Wing Commander' march for the Captain.

Dammit.

Rubble was piled everywhere from the damage. On the floors, against the walls, on top of ships that hadn't taken off, and all over Vasili's good suite. As soon as he was assigned to trash duty, he immediately regretted showing up on the Daoshim drunk and smoking. Being separated from Cole and Herm was putting him into social withdrawal, and he definitely wasn't focused on what he should be. His mind made a game out of his job, setting the box he was piling rubble into a ways off and tossing the pieces in. A point here, a point there, miss whatever passed the time. A trickle of sweat dropped from his brow. Break time.

The cold air on board the ship made a cigarette extra enjoyable; not only would it fix his craving, but what little heat it provided was welcome as well. Vasili found a nice clean spot along a wall and sat down. Behind his shades he closed his eyes and just lost himself in the soothing smoke. He should be out flying right now...

"Rustam! Why the hell aren't you clearing wreckage?!" Vasili jumped back as he walked past the voice that was yelling at him. Deciding to disobey orders to try and find some alcohol turned out to be a bad idea as well.

"Ma'am, I was, er, headin' towards the refresher..." he said as he rubbed the back of his head and put on the best smile he could. Usually he would try a flirt with a woman of this nature, but a man Vasili couldn't quite pin a name on was accompanying her. He was staring Vasili down, and his muscles froze. Vasili searched for rank on his uniform. Ah, hell... He gave a lazy salute to the Commander, which was returned by a short wave.

"Rustam, for lord's sake why don't you wear suitable clothes?" the female continued.

"Well, I was just pickin' up garbage, Miss Mey-"

"Ma'am is fine, Rustam." Vasili nodded, overwhelmed by the presence of a potential tag team against him. He moved up against a wall and saluted, letting the two Officers pass.

"Who was that?" Vasili could hear the man's voice echo through the corridor as they walked.

"Senior Crewman Vasili Rustam, one of the new pilots on the Daoshim," the woman responded, "He goes by the callsign 'Decembrist'. You probably noticed... recruitment reported he needs attitude adjustment..." and the voices faded away.

Vasili decided to just lay low after the encounter and retreated to his room. He threw his sunglasses onto his bed to expose his bloodshot eyes; the only time he would take them off is when people weren't around. He rummaged through his closet: nothing but empty bottles. On his desk: more empties. Under his bunk: one had a little liquid which he swallowed in less than a second, other than that everything was empty. His supply of alcohol from home was officially out.

Dammit.

"And I bet you believe that, huh?"  Shazam let the burning liquid settle at the bottom of his stomach, putting the cup to rest on the clear table in the Captain's quarters.  Arturus, a man Shazam probably owed his life to and vice versa, sat across from him with a somewhat submissive grin.

"This ship will be ready to take on bigger battles, yes.  This crew has seen some of the worst things you can run across in such a short period of time.  No experience like on the job experience, I think...  Hopefully this'll make organized battle a breeze..."  Taking a sip from his glass, he seemed to reconsider, adding quickly- "Though battle is never something that can be full known..."

Shazam took a glance around the room; he'd only been in the quarters a couple of times, most on visits like these regarding future formal occasions, but this time the place seemed special.  Maybe it was the way the air conditioning was cool but not cold and the feeling in the air was full of anticipation, not worry.  Shazam shook away the nostalgia though, quickly quipping back- "You never know- the NR might just decide to leave us alone, hand over Coruscant, put themselves at the hands of the VE's unparalleled mercy...  War ends tomorrow!"  Art chuckled slightly and lifted a brow.

"Is this Corellian ale especially strong or I don't suppose you've become a lightweight?"  Shazam turned the cup in circles, the liquid banking off the walls of the glass and shimmering like the crashing waves of Corellia...  It'd been several years since he'd been to Corellia...  There was a moment of silence and then-

"What do you think about sitting out here in the middle of space with five pilots and half your crew on standby while the rest of your ship is under heavy repair?"  Shazam glanced back up to meet Art's eyes, which seemed to consider the question avidly.  Behind him the white walls seemed dim, his bed neatly in order as always and what appeared to be several night's work in data pads on his desk.  Shazam imagined Art working late and without regard because there was no sun or star in this galaxy or the next that could tell him to sleep if he had work that could be done; his crew would be ready the next time they fell into a bad situation if he had anything to do with it.

"I think no place is safe and the question of numbers is always relative- should we feel better with one hundred fighters on board?  They'll be useless against the Rebel Fleet, won't they?  Safe enough, to answer your question..."  Art smiled and finished off his glass, Shazam taking a moment to consider his answer and then did the same.  "Don't worry- we're in safe space and we've still got controls and equipment that detects thinks like rebel fleets...  Technology is great, really..."  He nodded and said- "C'mon, I'll show you to your quarters," standing up and taking the two classes to the sinks behind him.  Moments later they were through the bridge and making their way to the nearest lift, discussing what was going to be a decent break for just about every commanding officer in the local area.

"Two days of leisure duty and a night at the Lord's Palace- I can't say that I feel too guilty about leaving the old desk behind for a few days..."  Shazam said, Art letting a faint smile escape through his usually uptight exterior; he'd actually been doing this frequently and the commander thought he might be getting used to it.  Shazam considered it and then knew better, knowing that Art would return to discipline his crew the second they parted ways.  As for Shazam, he'd been working feverishly for the last few months on just about everything, so some decent break time was probably in the cards for him. Art hit the access and the doors separated, revealing the white chamber beyond and...  Shazam blinked to make sure that he was seeing things right, but it appeared to be the same young gentlemen that Meyiri had taken the liberty of chewing out only a short while ago.

"Carry on, son."  Arturus said, returning the quick salute from the young man.  The dark, curly haired fellow seemed to recognize Shazam just as quickly and stood in shock for just a moment, just enough for his unshaded eyes to increase in diameter and reveal the hard to discern grays.  Red clawed and stemmed out from the irises though, his somewhat tough exterior looking a little tired for a moment as the young man passed between Shazam and Art.

As he disappeared behind the corner, perhaps thinking he was out of hearing distance, he said something rather risque to a passing nurse, sliding a pair of sun-glasses back onto his face.  The two commanders stepped into the lift.  After a moment, Shazam gave a lopsided grin and said- "Still feel safe?"

Jaden awoke to the alarms going off in the fighter.  He was coming back to real speed.  It had been nearly 14 hours since he had been on the hyperspeed route, and sleeping was the only thing to do.

Jaden checked the nav computer and all of the systems terminals.  Everything was on track, besides the fact that he seemed to be getting low on fuel.

Good thing I'm not paying for any of this fuel...

The stars began to appear back to their solid form, and the sleekly designed fighter dropped drastically in speed.  The interceptor model was not origninally built for hyperspeed travel: only in and out of hangers and into battle.  But, this fighter had its values.  This fighter was built for anything.  Anything...

The gloss black coloured fighter had been in his possesion nearly 15 years now.  Many memories were kept with the fighter through Jaden's challenges and journeys, but never did he forget the instance of his uncles death.  Fleeing the planet of Janeiro was one of the worst, but best decisions that the young pilot ever made.

Jaden quicly realized that he was back in realspace, with a strike cruiser sitting right in front of him.  Little did he realize, the officers aboard the Atrus must not have notified the Doashim of Jaden's early arrival, or there wouldn't have been half a squadron of interceptors traveling his way.

"Whoa, this is Vast Empire friendly craft, do not fire," said Jaden, brining the controls to his hand and queing his headset to the allied channel.

"Present your ships ID codes immediately, or prepare to be boarded," said a familiar voice.  It must not have been who he was thinking off, because this was an Impossible coincidence.

"Sending them through now.  Who am I speaking with right now?" said Jaden

"This is Lieutenant Commander Amason aboard the Strike Cruiser Doashim.  I have ord-"

Jaden cut him off quick.

"Come on now Am...you aren't seriously second guessing me here, now are you?" said Jaden

There was an awkward silence.

"Whoa....is this Jaden?" said Amason

"Who else do you think it is?"

"Well....I mean"

"Yes, yes, you know its me.  Those ID codes sure have better checked out...." said Jaden

Or atleast I hope so....

"You are good to land in our main fighter hanger, Hanger D-14 section B," said Amason, "Nice to hear from you.  See you on board"

A smile appeared on Jaden's face as he brought the fighter to a new heading.  He had never been on the Doashim, but now he had to accept the fact that this could be his final resting place before heading into retirement.  Or could this be his permenant position as Sentinel Squadron commander?

Jaden quickly hopped out of the fighter after smootly landing it in the hanger bay.  Sliding down the ladder, Jaden noticed that a couple of techs were scrambling around with an interceptor and looked as if they were having trouble.  Jaden give them a quick wave, knowing that they would get the work finished.

The door leaving the hanger hissed open and presented the innards of the Doashim.  Jaden had noticed it on his way in, but not until now did he see the real extent of the damage on the strike cruiser.  Rubbel was scattered about in the hall, and techs were scrambling about, trying to get the repairs done as quick as possible.  There wasn't much time left before the Doashim would set out on a new course for a new mission.

Jaden followed the ships grid to his newly assigned office.  It looked as if it had been used before.  Really used.  The walls were a bit of a stain of yellow, and the entire room smelled like tar from cigarettes.  Coffee mugs were scattered about the desk and the computer terminal had dust all over it.  Nobody had bothered to clean up their previous mess before they took all of their paperwork and left the office, but Jaden didn't mind.  He could get used to the worn feeling, because that was about the feeling that his body was feeling at that point in time.  Worn

Jaden turned the computer terminal on and lit up a small cigarillo.  He was stressed out from the long, and boring flight.  Not often did he go on long distance travels, but this one was extra boring.  He had nobody with him, no music to listen to (Due to the fact that the fighter had some wiring issues that needed to be tended to.  The radio being one of those.)

Jaden had already known that Shazam was on board, but as far as other things he knew, he was the only pilot out of the squadrons of the VE that was on board.  As the computer terminal came to life, Jaden took a drag off of the miniature cigar and let the smoke begin to fill the room.  Log on screens began to appear.  Jaden quickly logged in, hoping that his new information was already ran into the networking aboard the ship, and to his suprise, it was.  New message windows popped up all over the screen, and Jaden knew what laid before him.  Another job commanding a squadron.

Hopefully it'll work out this time....
