We could go over to one of those outer planets.. Shoot at some asteroids, that kinda thing." "What about Kelly, sir? Don't you have plans?" Riel replied, raising his eyebrows. Bear chuckled to himself and adjusted himself in his seat. "No, we're not doing much right now.. I've got more than enough time to take you boys out. Go and get the Squadron ready. We leave in 3 hours." "Thank you sir!" Riel saluted. Bear stood up, returned the salute and smiled. "Good man."

Malik landed his shuttle in the m/SSD Atrus hangar, he had just returned from a long jurney to his home planet where he had helped his fiancé getting their factories and destilleries back up and running. He walked towards the Kaph barracks, where he met his CMDR Bear. "What are you doing? Get ready for our mission dammit!" Bear yelled. "Relax Bear, I just returned from vacation for heavens sake." Malik answered as he walked over to his locker in the Kaph barracks.

Seems like its been forever since the last time Kain piloted his TIE fighter. The last time he flew his TIE was in training in the academy. "Ahh, feels good to be flying again. Now for some target practice." Even though shooting up asteroids isn't very challenging, but it was fun though.  Suddenly a transmission came from Riels TIE figher. "Heads up boys, we have incoming starcrafts coming our way.  It could be rebel pilots, so keep your guards up."

Bear saw the fighters too. He saw 6 Rebel A-Wings, but there was almost a dozen fighters in the Squadron. "Easy peasy.. Lets give em hell, guys" he said to the rest of the boys. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a Y-Wing, quite far away. So far away that it was a mere dot in the distance, but he could see the trails from miles away. "Riel, you have command.. I'm going to check out that Y-Wing.." "Ok sir. Happy hunting. Boys, lets get these ************!" The rest of the Squadron roared away, leaving Bear following the lone Rebel. There was an eerie silence about the place, which made him uneasy. He looked at the picture of Kelly and him sitting on the side of his TIE, and smiled. "Oh well.. here goes." Bear turned up the power and roared towards the Rebel. He could see it was quite damaged, and had seemed to be in some sort of fight. Half of it seemed to be just a tangle of metal, with smoke pouring out. "Rebel fighter, this is the Vast Empire Navy. Respond at once." Bear spoke softly. There was something wrong.. "Rebel fighter, this is the Vast Empire Navy. Respond at once."  he said again. There was now definetly something wrong. An old mans voice came on. Bear could hardly make out what he was saying, due to the interference. "Sssshshhhh... Rebe.. SSHhhshsSShh.. fig....SHhhsshHHH... destroy... ShhHESsSShhh.. Army... SHHSSSsssHHhsssssssssssssss." "Say again, Rebel fighter. Say again." "SHHHHhhhhhSSsssHH.. They destroy... SHSHhhsshsh.. the outpost.. ShhhSssshHHH.. captured me... ShhahSSShhh" "God damn it, you're Imperial?" "ShhhHSsssHH... yes... SShhhSShhhhhh.. Admira.... SShhhhsssssss" It went dead suddenly. But Bear knew everything he needed to know. Rebels had destroyed an Imperial outpost, and left this Admiral to die on this battered Y-Wing. But what outpost? "m/SSD Atrus, come in please.. Come in..." A posh voice came on. "This is the m/SSD Atrus, hearing you loud and clear. What can we do for you?" "This is 2nd Lieutenant Bear, Commander of Kaph Squadron.." "Ha! Ha! Ha!" the man interrupted, "You rebels don't fool us! Bear is on vacation for the next 2 months! Ha! Ha! Ha!" "What?! You stupid fool! I need your help!" "Don't waste our time, rebel. Good day." "What?!" No use. They were gone. Bear looked out and saw his squadron flying in battle formation quite a way away. He wondered how they were doing...

"Okay Kaph, form up behind me.  I'll draw there fire, you take them out," Riel said.  His Twin Ion Engines screamed as he flew right into the spearhead of A-wings.  They quickly scattered and formed up behind him.  Kaph made quick work of the rather unskilled fighters. "Bear, this is Kaph Nine," Riel said.  "That was simply too easy, something is wrong."  No sooner did the words leave Riel's mouth when a Calamari Cruiser popped out of Hyperspace three clicks away.  "Uh oh. mSSD Atrus, this is Riel Fury, we have a Mon Cal on our scopes, three kilometers away.  Request immediate backup.  Repeat, IMMEDIATE BACKUP!!" All Riel heard was static.  "What's going on here?  Bear, what's going on?" "Riel, I really don't know.  This is obviously an ambush.  Prepare for retreat, the Mon Cal is launching it's fighters." Riel cursed into the speaker.  "I hate running from.....hold up.  We aren't going anywhere.  Kaph 10, go to the Atrus and get it over hear as soon as possible.  It's times like these where I wouldn't mind some Viper's to help.  They can't ignore you." "Yessir,"  Darkhawk said as he flew away.  "Be back soon." "Okay Kaph, let's hold these guys off until the atrus can get here with an Interdictor.  Set vector 4.6 and go across the bridge, flight three.  That'll get the Mon Cal off our backs..."

Bear looked out at the Y-Wings to one side, and the B-Wings to the other. He worked out that the Y-Wings could knock out a good installation, and there were a couple dotted around not too far from here. He looked to the B-Wings, and knew they were a formidable opponent for even an Elite Squadron. "Ok guys, you take a shout at the B's. I'm gonna do a strafing run on those Y-Wings." "Roger that Bear. Happy hunting. Out." Bear banked to the right, put his finger on the trigger, lined up with the enemy squadron, and let loose. One of the Y-Wings burst in to flames, while another looked to be smoking. The rest were not even hit. "Grrr.. That was a bad strafe!" he muttered to himself, banking to the left to try and line up for another shot. Suddenly, he heard a voice.. It was his own. But not from his mouth. "Imperial Pilot! Imperial Pilot! Hold you fire! We surrender!" "What the..? Who are you?" "We are the Peace Corps!" "The what?" "The Peace Corps! We keep peace all over the galaxy!" "How come I've never met a 'Peace Corps' pilot then?" "You probably have! You see, we capture the galaxies finest pilots, from past and present, without them knowing, clone them, and send them back to their own time. We then.." "Wait a second.. You take people from the past AND the present.. and clone them?" "Yes! Thats right! Then we can send the cloned pilots to any point in time! The pilot's ships are then made invisible, and are sent to famous battles, past and present, to change the course of history!" "Rightttt... So its happened before?" "Yes! The battle of Yavin, Endor.. even Coruscant! Our fighters assisted in them!" "So what are you doing here?" "There is going to be a famous battle here.. the Rebels will attack the mSSD Atrus, destroying it forever. They will also destroy the Viper and Kaph Squadrons!" "And you're here to change it... right?" "No! It will really be won by the Imperials, after a mad assault led by and equally mad commander, Bear! But that will make Bear a cruel and more mad commander.. Which can't happen!" "So the entire Navy will get destroyed?!" "Yes! But don't worry, it will be for the best! Why, your clone, and the clone of your son, are fighting for the cause!" "WHAT?! MY SON?!" "Yes!" "I don't have a son!" "Not yet, but you will!" "But I won't if I get destroyed!" The voice paused. "Hmm.. We will worry about that later! By the way, I bet you're wondering how you can hear me, and why I speak like you! Well, I'm just tapping into your brain waves to make you hear me! Don't worry!" "You mad pshyco! I'll kill you! And all your Peace Corps friends!" "Hehe! Don't get feisty with me! I am you, after all! Goodbye!" Bear knew what to do. Kill the people who had no regard for human lives. And kill them before they killed him and his squadron.

Bear shook his head to clear his mind, banked his TIE round to face the on-coming Y-Wings, and put his finger on the trigger. He let loose a fury of light and energy into the fragile bombers. Several blew up, while a few more simply dissapeared in the explosions. "Ha ha!" he laughed, zipping straight past a smoking Y-Wing. They didn't seem to be responding, just flying in a completely straight line.. Bear flew round, firing at point blank range at a single Y-Wing, destroying it. "Ok, this is weird.. Whats wrong with them?" "SOS! SOS! This is the m/SSD Atrus! We are being attacked by 4 Squadrons of Y-Wings, 2 of B-Wings, and 1 of X-Wings! We have NO Fighter support, I repeat, NO Fighter support!" "What the hell? What did I just shoot at? The reserves?!" "Shoot at, Commander? You didn't shoot at anything.. according to our sensors, you've been flying in a circle for the last 2 hours!" Bear didn't have time to think about this. He just knew that something was going wrong.. "Roger that, m/SSD Atrus. Kaph Squadron on its way." Bear flew over the smoking Y-Wings, cursing. He told the Flight Leaders to fall in behind him, in loose formation. Now they had a ship to save. Their ship.

After destroying the last of the B-Wings, Bear shouted out new orders. "Alright listen up Kaph squadron, the Atrus is under heavy fire. Riel's flight and my flight will take out the bombers, Kaek flight will take out the X-Wing escorts. Is that clear everybody?" "Yes sir!", everybody yelled over the com. As we zoomed towards the rebels fighters, something in my gut told me that the rebels had more in store for us. "ENEMY FIGHTERS ARE IN RANGE! FIRE AT WILL!"

Bear felt drowsy. He could smell burning rubber behind him, and his whole body was sweating. He tried to speak. "Kaphs.. good job." "Its not over yet!" Somebody in the squadron said. "It is for me." Bear gripped the stick, and took his TIE down. He was hit. He didn't know how, he didn't know when.. but there were red lights flashing on and off, and he knew that meant trouble. "KAPH ONE? What are you doing?" "I.." Bear tried to speak, but vomitted blood all over the controls. He lost control of the TIE, desperately wrestling with the stick whilst trying to breath. He could see a ship in the far distance, and knew it meant safety. The green laser bolts firing past him told him that safety might be hard to find. He coughed once, throwing up a huge mass of blood, looked at the photo of Kelly, and twisted the Fighter round. He kept his ship perfectly still, watching two A-Wings roaring towards him. They opened fire once more with their lasers, and Bear moved forwards quickly. One A-Wing broke away quickly, chickening out. The other speeded up, roaring towards Bear. It stopped firing. Bear put his hand on the ejector-switch. Some guy in the VEDJ had fixed this new-fangled ejector seat to his ship, when they were stationed on the Atrus. He wondered if it worked.. Bear saw the rebel pilot, and then saw him break away.. But not soon enough. His TIE smashed into the rear of the A-Wing, obliterating both ships. Everything went red, and orange, and yellow, and somehow, Bear ejected. He flew up into outer space, bleeding. He hurridly fixed the oxygen mask over his face, and blacked out.

Bear fell through the mass of swirling colours, and into a big hand. A huge face looked down at him, and shook itself. "What a stupid boy." God said, "Having to die so young." "He IS a fighter, father.." Another head said. "Yes, I know, but he fought for his beliefs.. We must forgive him." God reached down with a gigantic finger and put it on Bears heart. Bears entire body lit up, and the heads disappeared. "What the..? Where?? Who?" Bear said, in sick bay. "Calm down, Lieutenant." said the doctor, smiling and pushing him back on to the bed. "My.. god.." Bear said, before drifting into unconsiousness.

"Can you decifer anything from the wreckage?"  Riel asked. "No, it appears to be normal rebel fighters," Kain said.  "Hmmm...  Okay, let's look over the battle data." For hours upon hours they looked over all the data readouts from the battle.  Nothing missed their analysis. "Right here, you shot that fighter, the laser feedback says that much, but it didn't register on the computer as a kill," Riel said to Kain.  "That would leave me to believe that they are holograms.  Also, when I was shot, by all rights and purposes, I should have been destroyed, along with the rest of Kaph, yet obviously I wasn't." "Well, how do you explain Bear then?" "Maybe all the extra fighters were a diversion, and the actual force was a lot smaller.  I mean, we got some kills, so some of them had to be real.  I think Bear knew something else though." "Yeah.  Okay, look here.  When Bear went to take on the isolated Y-wings, for a period of up to four minutes, his ship and the Y-wings were completely idle.  What does that suggest to you?" "That they were talking, but his com doesn't show any messages in that time frame..."

"And then the rabbi said.... Oh hey guys, what's up?"  Bear said as Kain and Riel walked into the sickbay.  He had a nurse all over him. "What would Kelly think?"  Riel asked.  Bear looked away.  "Anyway, what have you found out while I was out." "Well, we have it pretty much figured out, except an idle time for your fighter of about four minutes.  Can you indulge us in what happened?" Bear was visually shaken by the thought.  "It was some peace corps or something.  They said that they....wanted to make sure the Atrus was destroyed.  I couldn't let that happen.  Thanks to the rest of you, it didn't."

After Bear explained to us who the Peace Corps. were, then things started to make sense. "So they want to get rid of the Atrus because in the future we were in a war and lives of many people were lost?" Asked Kain. Bear replied, "Yep thats what the pilot in the Y-Wing said before I blasted him to tiny bits." Then Riel asked, "If they are from the future, how come they are using old Rebel ships instead of ships from their time?" Kain said, "What I wanna know is why did they even contact Bear and tell him their plans. Why did were we the only ones who could see them,  didn't they say their fighters were cloaked? I have a strong feeling that destroying the Atrus isn't their only intention..."
