- This is a open competition. The rules? Write an exactly 100 word short story. It can be about anything. After I get about 5 posts I will give the next step.
A man exits a car and scans the horizon. In the distance, a dark shape can is floating on the waves. Slamming the car door, Jake runs down the cobblestone path leading into a bay. A lone figure lay on the wet sands, there body being pushed and pulled by the rising tide. Jake collapsed to his knees next to the body and began sobbing. Slowly, he elevated the woman's head and rested his temple against hers. Her long, flowing hair, now soaked with sea-foam, draped over Jake's hand, and her usually shimmering green eyes, have become dull and lifeless. - OOC:

It was dawn – the sun was rising to the east of the town, directly behind the road that ran between the bar and the parking lot. Shadows jumped and fled the coming light, hiding behind buildings and cars as the sun came up. A lone figure could be seen walking determinedly in from the east, in front of the rising sun. His shadow ran ahead of him, making him seem as if he were 10ft tall. In reality, though, he was only 1.76 meters – approximately 5ft 7 – tall. On his feet he wore standard issue black military boots – sturdy, and obviously comfortable. - OOC:

A man was paddling casually on the water in a touring kayak; he was paying more attention to the scenery than where he was going. Headed in the opposite direction was a woman, paddling at a faster clip than the man. The sun danced over the water blinding her momentarily, she stopped paddling but kept drifting along. As her vision cleared she spotted the man too late, he was still staring off in the distance. As she started to check her boat, the two boats collided so hard that the woman wound up in the drink; glaring at the man. - OOC:

The stone cell was small, filled with little more than a wood bed, a grimy bucket, and a weak, decrepit man sitting in the corner. It was another cold day, and the hole in the ceiling far above him gave him a dim forecast of the night’s temper. He wrapped the raggedy blanket around him and forced himself onto his feet. On the wall facing him he etched a line into the wall, adding to the collection of days he’d spent. He was past counting, past caring how long he’d been imprisoned, but it was a hard habit to break. - OOC:

His eyes soon adjusted to the darkness of his cell and all he could see was the dim light of the dying bulbs from the hanging lights in the hall. He then sat himself up and leaned against the wall of his cell, being mindful of his wound. He then closed his eyes to listen. He only heard the snoring and whispering from other people around him. He opened his eyes and looked into the cell across from him. He saw a man sitting in his cell talking to himself. The man then noticed him and turned to face him. - OOC:

- Alright you mopes. Time for Phase 2. You must now take your 100 word story, and slim it down to 50 words. You must use the same story you used for Phase 1, and you must stay true to the original wording. Any deviations will take points away. Extra points will be given to those who can keep good detail and a good story even with the smaller word count.
