My First VE Birthday

Today is the first anniversary of the day I joined the VE. In February of 2011, I was looking for a writer's group, eager to increase the quantity and quality of prose produced by my personal writing practice; I was looking for ways to understand role-playing games better from a player's perspective, eager to break into the game-design industry; and I was looking for an active science fiction fan community, eager to release my inner fanboy. A random reference in a facebook thread led me to the VE, and suddenly I wasn't looking anymore.  Now, I look back on my past twelve months here, and I consider how much I've improved as a writer, and how successful I have become as a freelance graphic designer and game designer, and how gleeful I am when I share a new Star Wars-related pun in the ComNet Lounge or when I write posts for stories about space battles featuring Star Destroyers, and as marvelous and incredible as all that seems, the thing I find myself valuing most about my first year in the Vast Empire is this: you guys. I feel impossibly fortunate to have made so many friends here, across all the divisions, and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank this wonderful, quirky little community for a truly superlative year. Here's hoping I get to write a sappy note like this in another 365 days! Happy birthday, Trick! I've only been here for three months or so.. but from what I've seen so far, every promotion and medal you've earned has been more than deserved.
