OOC:
Muglug, next time can you let me finish my post before you write. I've decided to simply post again instead of expanding my old post. In the future, how about we discuss where we want to take the story on our SquadNet topic before you post? I'll post that we are hiding behind screens and can sit through the meeting. I'm currently writing a post so can you wait for me to finish and check the Story board please? Thanks.

Footsteps echoed through the hall as the group walked briskly through the hallway the Raiders had vacated moments before. The squad quickly backed away from the door and went even further into the cavernous room. Dominated by an elegant table made from some kind of polished wood, the large conference chamber had decorations and sculpture from all over the galaxy.

On the wall across from the door, a huge transparisteel tank with a highly polished metal frame dominated much of the wall. Lights shone into the tank where dozens of small creatures pulsated and swam in all directions. Like the rest of the room, the tank was built on a grand, almost Imperial, scale and was filled with many different types of aquatic creatures. On either side of the display, there were many tools, paintings and other forms of art.

Scanning the room, noting a pair of Wookie ceremonial swords and a Kaleesh war mask, Dante settled on a massive screen hanging on the wall. He moved the massive work of art aside and, much to his surprise, came across a large indentation in the wall. Looking closer, he saw that there were several bags of supplies along with a blaster pistol stacked on each other.

What a paranoid civilian...

The voices sounded louder, and a board in the fine wood boards of the hallway creaked as the group came closer. Dante hazarded a look and saw the Muglug was the only member of the squad who hadn't hidden himself. As someone's hand tightened on the bronze doorknob and conversation drifted through the door from the group on the other side, Lucas stared at the door with the look of a bantha in the headlights.

"Move it, damn you..." Dante whispered through gritted teeth.

As he was about to reach out and grab the trooper to pull him into hiding, Lucas made up his mind and rushed behind a large abstract sculpture. Dante almost sighed with relief, but caught himself as a pair of well-dressed sentients walked through the door, whispering to each other in hushed voices.

Wonder what all this is about?

As several other aliens and one human walked through the door and took seats at the table, Dante noticed light from the ceiling mounted lights streaming through a hole in the screen. Moving as quietly as possible, Dante put his eye next to the hole and was rewarded with a clear view of the room.

The politician cleared his throat and the muttering groups fell silent.

"Gentlemen, you may be wondering why I have asked you to join me here. Fear not, I will explain soon enough."

Working quietly, Dante took his bug, the only one that hadn't been placed, and attached it to the screen. A small red LED flashed, indicating the device was recording, and Dante grinned.

This is as good a place as any to put the bug. I just hope they leave soon so we can escape.

Hmm... Rogue pondered to himself as he ran likely scenarios through his mind; he needed to create a diversion so the squad could get out but one that would not get him in too much trouble. Slinging his sniper over his shoulder Rogue put one hand over the other and slid down the drainpipe that he used to shimmy up on the roof. Unbuckling his tactical belt which held his secondary weapon, grenades, food, and miscellaneous other goods. Dropping the belt so that it was hidden by some nearby bushes as well as dropping the rifle, Rogue made his way to Namyr just as the limo’s were pulling up. Nam’s eyes opened slightly at the breach in the plan.

Making sure that no one from the limo’s were watching Rogue looked at those yellow eyes that he cared so much for, quickly giving Namyr a peck he whispered two words. “I’m sorry.”

“You’re a fake you Sith blasted whore!” Rogue yelled, as the limo drivers and their passengers looked on. “Gimme back my money!”

Namyr immediately caught on and continued with the act. “You paid for your fortune and that is what I gave you, we cannot change them.”

Rogue had his back to Barada’s guests so he could not see how they were reacting, whispering to Namyr so that they could not overhear. “We have their attention?”

Covering herself from them under Rogue’s bulky form she whispered in return. “Only slightly, we’re losing it quickly though.”

Not happy with what he was going to do next, Rogue pulled his arm back and punched Nams in the gut, not full power but enough to hurt. Nams responded by throwing over the cheap card table to use as a barrier while she threw a quick jab at Rogue’s face; it connected with him square on the nose and a small nose bleed started. Kicking the card table at Namyr in an attempt to make her trip, instead the Twi’lek deftly jumped over it and attempted to trip Rogue when she hit the payment. The ASL hopped back to avoid the long legs that he liked to stroke at night when they would talk. Burly arms grabbed Rogue’s arms and put them in a full nelson, effectively ending his part of the fight. Another man approached Nams and with his arm out to show that he intended no harm quickly confirmed with Nam’s that she would not continue the conflict.

“So you like to hit girls do you?” The man who had Rogue pinned up asked.

Not giving an answer except to stomp on the man’s foot in an attempt to free himself Rogue immediately regretted doing so as the man shoved Rogue headfirst into the brick wall. The two men then proceeded to stomp the hell out of Rogue, his feeble attempts to deflect the blows were in vain and within seconds the Raider’s ASL was a mess.

“Stop.” One of the men from the limos ordered. “Take him and toss him into an alley.” Each of two men grabbed one of Rogue’s arms and dragged him to one of the limos.

Bleeding profusely from numerous gashes on his face and arms and pain spreading throughout his body, Rogue wished that the adrenaline would leave his body so that he could fall asleep and not have to worry about the pain; at least until he woke up.

Rogue felt the limo start moving and within a few minutes it stopped, there was no conversation the entire ride and as soon as they stopped he was dragged and left next to a waste bin.

Lucas was sitting behind his sculpture and had noticed Dante had planted the bug so now all they had to do was wait so he sat and listened wondering what was happening with the rest of the squad, but slowly noticed that the red recording light was pretty visible and hoped the visitors didn't notice.

Namyr quickly picked up her cards and folded up the table, bowing at the men who had stopped the, 'fight,' before scurrying down the street.  Once she was out of the eyesight of the men she easy swung up onto one of the building's fire escapes and began to follow the limo as it drove about a mile away and dumped Rogueboy in a random alley.  Watching the limo drive away, Namyr landed on the ground beside Rogueboy and let out a sigh and a smile, "And what have we learned today?" she asked digging through her medical bag and began patching Rogueboy up one wound at a time.

"That even in a fake fight you can kick my sorry human ass," Rogueboy groaned as Namyr applied a numbing agent and began to stich up the worst of the gashes.

"You're lucky, this aren't that deep and they won't scar," Namyr pursed her lips as she sewed Rogueboy's flesh back together and stopping the bleeding.

"I love a woman who can put me through pain while she's fixing my boo boos," Rogueboy grinned.

"Cute, you're already talking like your on pain meds," Namyr rolled her eyes applying bandages over the stiches.  Wiping away the blood from underneath his nose she stood up and offered her hand to help him up.  "We need to get back in postition," Namyr then spoke into her communicator, "Please tell me you guys are out of there?"

Muglug, the red recording light only flashed for a second before turning off. It was meant to let its placer know it was active. Also, there is no way you could have seen the light as I was behind a thick screen at the time.

-Barada Vashim's house, security room

There was an almost perfect silence in the chamber, with only the beeping of row upon row of computers and the hum of the ventilation system to disturb the peace. The previous owner of the mansion, an elderly Dug who had made a fortune through arms trafficking and had  mysteriously vanished a few years ago. His heir was addicted to gambling and had sold off all his assets at greatly reduced prices. Several years later, the heir, once again broke and despairing, had hanged himself. When Vashim had acquired the mansion, it had been stripped  of all its valuables, with even the doorknobs and wallpaper removed and sold separately. The original owner had used this chamber for dances and for meetings with his subordinates. Vashim had removed the wood floor and wall mounted mirrors, replacing them with padding and durasteel plates. He had then hidden dozens of state-of-the-art holo-cameras throughout and outside the compound, as well as motion sensors and security drones. Any intruder would be detected and quickly and efficiently terminated.

One of the two guards on camera duty spoke to his co-worker.

"He may be paranoid, but he does pay well."

"Yep. We'd better take a look at the hallway like he ordered us to."

"Accessing. Wonder why he wants to spy on them even when he's in the same room?"

"No idea. How much long...wait a minute, there's nothing there."

"They must have gone inside."

The first guard manipulated a holopad, flipping through the different images.

"Nothing. All the channels are clear..."

"That means..."

The man didn't have to finish the sentence. They both knew the screens meant one of two things: an equipment malfunction, which seemed unlikely, or

"Infiltration."
One of the guards cursed and pulled his comlink from his belt, speaking rapidly into it.

"Yes, I know he's in a meeting. No I don't give a damn. This is an important security issue and if I...thank you. Sir, this is Guard Beta-2. I have some disturbing news..."

-conference room-

From his position behind the screen, Dante had a clear view of the room and saw Vashim's face change expression momentarily before returning to its emotionless state.

He quickly turned back to the room and spoke.

"Due to security concerns raised by a member of my staff, we will have to postpone the meeting until the problem has been resolved. I will contact you on the secure frequency I gave you earlier. Jeeves?"

A tall, elderly human appeared, flanked by two guards.

"Show these gentlemen the way out."

As first the politician then the others left the room, Dante let himself sigh in relief.

Now we can get the hell out. I just hope they haven't fixed the security cameras...

Lucas noticed that the meeting had finished quite quickly, obviously something had happened he moved further into the shadows, the abstract sculpture shielding him.

He observed around the room looking for the best way out when they left, he didn't have to worry about bugging the place, just getting in and out alive and unseen, they all stood up and looked cautious as they walked away from the table.

Almost time, we can leave as soon as we get a signal, I've already planned an exit which should work just fine completely avoiding the security systems.  Lucas sat waiting for his chance, the signal came through his ear piece.

"Get out fast." simple, straightforward and easy to follow.

As the door closed  and the footsteps of the officials became quieter, Dante gently pushed the screen to one side, careful not to brush against the bug, and emerged from the hiding place with his blaster out. There was a loud clunk as Fenris pushed a sculpture aside and Dante shot him a look that could melt durasteel.

The last thing we need is to let them know we're here.

A doorseal hissed, and Dante spun, turning off the safety on his blaster as he did so, only to lower his weapon when he saw it was his squad leader. Embarrassed by how close he had come to stunning the Raiders SL, he quickly thumbed on the safety and holstered the weapon. Thankfully, Darr didn't comment, something Dante was truly thankful for. Instead, he activated his headset and contacted Rogueboy.

"Alexander, what's our status?"

"There was a crackle of static, but no answer. Dante nervously shifted from foot to foot before he caught himself and turned back to covering the doorseal.

"Repeat, what's our status?"

This time, the static dissolved and was replaced by the weary voice of the Raiders ASL.

"We managed to distract them for a few minutes but they entered the building. Wait, they're leaving through the main gate, there are at least three bodyguards, they're gone. The bodyguards are coming back, and I can see at least four on patrol. Something must have alarmed Vashim. Two are wearing goggles of some sort, probably night-vision."

"Understood. Keep scanning and report if you see anything else."

With a click , Darr closed the connection and turned to the rest of the squad.

"We need to leave ASAP as we've placed the bugs and they seem to know something isn't right. Unless they see you, do not return fire and under no circumstances should you shoot on any setting but stun. Understand?"

The troopers nodded.

"Get out fast."

With that, the squad filed out into the hallway, their weapons out and safeties off. Darr gestured and the Raiders took off at a dead run, hoping to get out before a patrol found them.

Footsteps echoed through the dark and deserted hallway as the squad made their way through the building. Shortly before the mission, Intelligence had sliced civilian records for building plans and had duly turned what little data they found over to the Raiders Squad. Each member had a copy of the building plans, along with records of changes to the buildings, known guard posts and other relevant data, on their datapads. It was this that Darr now consulted before making a hand gesture. The squad moved into a v-shaped formation as the Raiders SL opened the doorseal and entered the deserted kitchen. The room smelled faintly of meat, and rows of refrigerators lined the walls. With the help of his night-vision goggles, Dante made his way through the aisles and followed Darr's lead. Several corridors later, they found themselves in a large greenhouse.

Vashim was an avid gardener, and maintained several greenhouses with flora from across the galaxy. Even in the dark, Dante made out some exotic, bulbous specimens from Felucia, which were flanked by dozens of saplings and young palms. As he brushed past gnarled trunks and twisted branches
Dante thought he saw movement and spun around, his blaster out and his finger on the trigger. He took a second look and saw that the source of the movement had been a roughly spherical, pulsated organism with small tentacles that writhed in all direction. Slightly disgusted, Dante turned back to the path and returned to his position in the line of troopers snaking through the plant nursery.

They came to a doorseal, and Dante waved a gloved hand. There was no reaction from the deactivated sensor, so Darr plugged his datapad into a port and began feverishly typing, his face almost ghostlike from the device's glow. As Darr withdrew his device, there were a trio of loud beeps, which made Dante curse and look for any alerted guards, and the portal slid open.

The night air was cool, and a light breeze blew fallen leaves this way and that as the Raiders SL began to deactivate the perimeter security. Ignoring their rustling, Dante scanned the area, looking for the sudden change in the shades of green that would signal a guard coming to investigate.  There was a shower of sparks and a several meter wide area of the ray shield surrounding the buildings grounds vanished. The Raiders slipped unnoticed through this new gap and vanished into the dark night.

Now came the painstaking hours of listening to the bugs and hoping something slips up. Luckily for Rogue he was sent home to get some rest as he “needed it”, looking in his mirror he touched his tender face and winced in pain; come tomorrow his face is going to be a big splotchy patch of purple. Resigned to be experiencing incredible pain come the morrow, Rogue went to sleep.

A sound startled Rogueboy; something was moving around in his apartment. Reaching under his pillow for a blaster that was no longer there, he quickly remembered why it wasn’t there; since Nams moved in he was trying to minimize the number of weapons in the house for a multitude of reasons. Nams, that’s who was in the apartment, getting up from his bed Rogue made his way to the kitchen.

When Nams first looked at Rogue’s face she did a double take, quickly regaining her composure she spoke. “As of yet we didn’t learn anything from the bugs, and you absolutely look like shit.” The red Twi’lek said with bags under her eyes.

“You don’t look like your normal self either.” Rogue retorted before quickly asking. “Want a cup of caf?”

“You know I can’t have one before going to bed, you trying to keep me up all night?” Namyr said with a seductive grin.

“Depends on what you do with your time up.” Rogue said with a boyish grin on his face. Picking Namyr up they started kissing, setting her on the counter they started to get more into the motion when the holo net started ringing

“Ignore it.” Namyr said as Rogue looked over his shoulder to see who was calling.

“It’s Darr.” Rogue’s voice filled with regret and longing.

Quickly getting away from the counter Rogue pressed the accept button. Darr’s visage filled the holonet; “Rogue, I trust you are slightly reste... damn, you look like shit.”

Namyr giggled in the background. “Thank you, anything else your infinite wisdom would like to share with me? Perhaps how my face reminds you about that rotten fruit you found in the barracks the other week?” Rogue said with mocking anger.

“Well something slipped up in Barada’s bugs; many times he makes mention of transporting fruits and whatnot to a warehouse just outside of town, which is odd within itself. However looking at the prices that he is paying doesn’t add up, there is absolutely no way he is paying over a thousand imperial credits per fruit even if it is the most expensive out of season fruit.” Darr said before continuing. “Come down to the base, we’re going to raid this warehouse, for sure he is stocking up some illegal stuff. Call Firemane and Muglug tell them to meet us in briefing room one-oh-four, time to lay the plans that’s gonna put this Klatooinian behind bars for the rest of his life.”

Pressing the end call button Rogue turned to Namyr, the Twi’lek looked resigned. “How about that cup of Caf?”

"Well, is the fruit in place, Jeeves?"

There was a crackle of static and a low buzzing noise that obscured the first few seconds of the servant's reply.

"...well underway and the fruit should be usable within a month."

Dante's pen scratched as he wrote down terms and a brief summary of the discussion on sheets of flimsy. There were many hours worth of conversations, some of which were completely irrelevant and by law had to be deleted. Not that Dante wanted to listen to the politicians many petty blackmails and affairs; the man must have had at least three mistresses. In addition, he appeared to have met with several local party bosses, and had several members of the local police on his payroll.

While all this was very suggestive and might give the evidence needed for a prosecution, the "fruit" mentioned might pose a threat to the Vast Empire. Thrawn and the New Republic had used terrorist cells against their enemies, as had their predecessors in the Confederacy of Independent systems. There were measures that could be used, such as sending out signals intended to prematurely detonate the bombs, but such extreme tactics were often counterproductive, affecting other electronics and often causing massive collateral damage in the areas where the cowardly Rebels hid their equipment. If the "fruit" was plastic explosive or heavy weaponry, and no action was taken, thousands of casualties could result. Munitions storehouses, public squares, stores...all were fair game for terrorists.

Which is why this mission is so important. If we cannot protect the citizens, what right do we have to govern them?

Dante felt a tap on his shoulder and paused the recording. Taking off his headphones and turning the chair around, he saw that Darr had returned to the room. The Raiders Squad Leader was wearing a set of stormtrooper armour that had been dyed black, had his helmet tucked under his arm, and had a blaster shotgun slung on his back.

"The High Command contacted me, and gave us the go ahead to mount an operation. They're especially concerned about the warehouse where he supposedly is storing fruit, and we've been ordered to shut the operation down. Suit up and head to briefing room one-oh-four ASAP."

Without saying another word, the officer left the room, replacing his helmet on his head as he did so. Dante mentally reviewed the building plans and made a beeline for the barracks.

Finally, an excuse to fight, shoot and blow stuff up. This should be interesting.

Well so far she had found two pistols, five rifles, and a couple of deadly knives that Rogueboy had hidden around the apartment.  Interesting enough, she wasn't too surprised at the number, before in Rogueboy's old apartment she had found several of his weapon's stash, and she would have been been alarmed, that is if she didn't have weapons arouns as well.  Granted, of course, she was a lot better at hiding them then Rogueboy.  Leaning against the counter wearing only one of Rogueboy's shirts and a pair of his boxers to boot she half listened to the bugged converstations.  She yawned a few times before she heard movement from the bedroom and looked up to see Rogueboy walking out.  She looked, the looked again at the rapid bruising, and swelling of her handy work surprised her.

“As of yet we didn’t learn anything from the bugs, and you absolutely look like shit," she yawned again wondering when was the last time she had gotten a good night's sleep, she watched Rogueboy cross the room, the lights from the window luminating his shape and she smirked, oh that was probably why.

“You don’t look like your normal self either," Rogueboy retorted and looked to almost winced at the realization that he had spoken a few words that could probably get his ass kicked.  “Want a cup of caf?” he offered as a peace offering smiling his lime green eyes lighting up.

“You know I can’t have one before going to bed, you trying to keep me up all night?” Namyr then asked batting  her eyelashes and using the smile she only held for Rogueboy.

Rogueboy said something else and smiled boyishly and Namyr knew it was all over.  She let out a whoosh of breath as Rogueboy easily lifted her onto the counter.  His lips found hers and his fingers found the buttons on her shirt.  Just as the shoulders on the shirt had begun to drift down her arms the holonet went off.

“Ignore it,” Namyr groaned her forehead resting on Rogueboy's shoulder.

Rogueboy's head swiveled to see who was calling, "Its Darr," he whispered Namyr chuckled as she detected longing in his voice.  When they were alone she loved watching him act well, softer towards her.  Pulling up her shirt she watched with mild interest as Darr and Rogueboy talked to one another.  She started getting out the traveling coffee mugs knowing where this was heading as Darr went through what was found out from the bugs.

“How about that cup of Caf?” Rogueboy asked after Darr had hung up.

"Way ahead of you, sounds like Darr wanted us in as soon as possible, which in his eyes means not even time for coffee," Namyr sighed regretfully, "to think you almost escaped all this."

"Yeah, but I would have lost a lot too," Rogueboy murmured his fingers twisting around her left Lekku as she poured the Caf into the mugs.  Her cheeks turned dark purple and she playfully shoved Rogueboy's face away from hers and headed for the door.

***

Rogueboy and Namyr had been waiting in the briefing room for the rest of the squad.  Rogueboy was lifelessly playing a game of tic tac toe with an equally sleepy Namyr who for the last two moves had drawn a fish before her forehead had fallen onto Rogueboy's shoulder to take a nap.

A light flickered on and off, casting elongated shadows on the durasteel floor of the Raiders barracks. Only the hum of the faulty wires and the clinking of plastoid touching plastoid disturbed the near-silence of the barracks. Iron Horse, as well as other squads, were either off-planet on missions or still recovering from the debacle on Yuka.

They do need to rest...but if we, we who suffered more casuaties than most of them, if we can fight why can't they?

Sighing, the trooper turned back to the pile of body armour on his bunk and started to suit up. Soon, his hands were moving in motions made familiar through dozens of repetitions.

The first time he had put on this class body armour, he had felt as though he was suffocating and almost succumbed to claustrophobia. The air fed to him through filters had been warm and felt sticky as sweat pooled up inside the suit. The visor had restricted sight and turned everything a dull red. Now, Dante felt calmer within the reassuring world of the suit. Within the body armour, he could survive for up to twenty minutes in the void of space, shrug off slugthrower rounds, and surivive glancing hits from blaster. Within the protective closeness of the armour, he felt safe. Indeed, he felt almost naked without the body armour. At such times, he remembered the words of the trooper known only as Darman:"I used to think I wore this armor. Now I think it's wearing me."

All too true. But without it I would be dead a dozen times over.

Dante finished attaching the ebony chestplate over the standard issue bodyglove worn underneath the armour and turned his attention to his helmet. With a touch, the electronic sensors and viewscreens built into the device activated, humming as diagnostics ran. There was a hiss as he lowered the helmet onto his head and the helmet seals, devices that prevented such aerial contaminants as biological weapons or soot from entering troopers's lungs, activated. Picking up his trusty DC-17 rifle, Dante headed to the briefing room, ready for the mission.

I just hope something doesn't go wrong...

Darr-Rann slammed his comlink down onto the desk in frustration. Minutes before the briefing, command calls him. He would have liked to have had more notice then this.

He supposed that it was probably for the best. The squad was mentally and physically worn out from the long series of missions that it had been participant in. They had lost troopers, brothers in arms. They needed time to repair.

Rogueboy walked into the briefing room, followed shortly by Namyr. Darr-Rann shook his head, but said nothing – He had given up. If they wanted a relationship, they could have it – But if it at any time put at risk the squad or their mission, there would be hell to pay.

He nodded to the two, and then redirected his gaze to the computer on his desk. He noticed their reaction when they saw he was wearing his uniform, not his armor. It meant that there was a change in plans.

He scrolled through the CNML document. Planet didn’t even look that bad – and the accommodations were five-star. The trip could actually be pretty enjoyable. He looked up as Dante entered the room, armed to the teeth. He could imagine that the trooper was going to be disappointed.

In the next few minutes, the rest of the troopers filed in to the room, taking seats opposite to him. He sighed and stood up, addressing them for the first time.

“Command has reviewed our performance records, in comparison to our recent service and losses. They’ve decided to reassign the mission to another squad.” He said. Immediately his ears were greeted by the protests of the squad. He shook his head and held up a hand to silence them. “I don’t have any choice in the matter. Command sees our squad as fatigued, and has assigned a mandatory rest period.”

He pressed a few keys on the keyboard of the computer, and a holo-projection appeared, displaying the image of a planet. “This is Cel II. It is known mostly for being a fine vacation paradise, as well as minor production of fine glassware. We’re going there for the former – Command has payed for a full vacation.”

He grinned as this raised cheers among the troopers.  He was glad to see that the squad was happy about the vacation. “We leave in 72 hours. Get ready, and don’t forget to bring a bathing suite. Dismissed.”
