Static comes from the speaker as the mic is being set up and you hear a low breath,  then from the audio transmitters a low and old voice comes…

I remember first joining Jester. It was… unexpected, as I was pulling a comrade from the field of battle, his blood staining my armor.  I never thought I would go through so much so fast, my Squad Leader at the time, Yillis, had commanded me to carry Zafo back, and take him on the drop ship. To I grabbed him, and I saw the blood flowing everywhere, and I just pulled him, I know the pain must have been excruciating on his part put he soon passed out and I put him up against the wall.

Unlike most Storm Troopers we took care of our own, and looked at the hole in his armor. Waving my hand behind his back I could see my gauntleted hand moving. So I grabbed out a med kit and hit him with a stimulant pack, to keep his heart beating, and I clogged the hole with medical foam, designed to patch up holes in your body for a small time.

Then I left the kit, and pulled Zafo over my shoulder, and hefted my DC-17M. Hunched over from the weight of another soldier I slowly made my way back, across the station, following the path of death and destruction that DD had caused. But unfortunately The Rebels seemed to be like space, there was no end to it. And they came in ones and twos; they were cleaning and scouting parties. My ammo counter dropped rapidly, and I remember as I was down to my last clip, a large group was around the corner, and I had no grenades left. It was the last corner, then the tech room and freedom, I quickly took out the clip and switched it to the armor piercing attachment and slid a clip in.

I peered around the corner and I shot two rounds into the crowd watching them explode, and I hefted Zafo on the other shoulder, grabbing my side arm, and began to shot anyone still alive from the blasts. And as I walked into the Tech station, I remember seeing dead bodies at first, then I remember hearing something fall to my left, and I turned to see a fully set up E-web, stolen imperial technology, and behind it three rebels.

I backpedaled like mad, and I dropped Zafo off, then I hit the mic in my helmet and called for an evac on the FLEETNET, but all I got was static, so I looked down at my ammo counter, and cursed, seeing the two anti armor rounds. They might have been enough, but four would have been safer and better.

I turned the corner and I fired off the two rounds, and I could the searing heat from the E-Web’s large bolts fly over my head. The rounds from my rifle hit them and they flew back, the E-Web was trashed. But the last bolt to com out of it had hit me, right on the top of the helmet, knocking me back and knocking my helmet flying.

I remember laying sprawled on the floor for a minute, dazed, then it all came back to me, Zafo’s life was in my hands, I got up and my head was killing me, but I pushed on, grabbing my gun and I went over and picked up Zafo, my helmet was by the door to the landing platform, and I stooped over to pick it up, and I remember blood falling on the helmet, that’s when I ran my hand over my head and felt the graze from the bolt. Just a quarter of an inch lower and I would have died…

A sigh and a moment of silent passes, then you hear the man speak again.

I was lucky that day, and as I placed my helmet on and walked out on the docking platform I heard from my helmet something punching through the static.

I called again for an evac, and I was awarded with the response, from a ship, Delta-Echo-Niner.

They came and picked us up, and I saw a few troopers get off the shit as we got on. I never knew who they were, or why they were going, but we got on, me, carrying Zafo, and we were extracted from the battle field that day. A sense of remorse came over me as I had left the field… not knowing what had happened to my fellow troopers.

It was hours later, in the infirmary, that a woman came to me, she looked me up and down as I stood outside Zafo’s door, she saw the bandage on my head and nodded, going in, then she came out of the room, and started to walk away when she stopped, and looked back at me. In that look I saw my entire future change.

She walked back to me and asked my who I was, I responded in kind, and then she nodded, I explained to her that I was with Zafo on the mission to take the MC90, and again she nodded, thinking to herself, and then she reached in her coat, and handed me an envelope. On the envelope, there was a simple sign, a jester’s head.

She leaned close and whispered into my ear, “Think about it…”
