Kami's and my first attempt at this was "Return to Cepany". Which went really well until we started getting pretty deep into the story, and people quit posting.

I also tried to get one such story started back in my Raider days with "The Peacemakers". Which was a great storyline in my opinion, but  really never got off the ground.

As Aeos said, post length is not the main concern. The rules I try to live by when writing are thus: "If it does not accomplish anything, don't post it up." Filler bogs down stories, and wastes your writing efforts. Never be afraid to take a story in a new direction, just make sure you aren't contradicting someone else's post, or going way off on a side tangent.

Realism is #1. New Republic troops, for example, are not as stupid and inept as we like to write them. They're trained soldiers, just like us. So a squad such as Jester wouldn't easily plow through a couple squads of NR troopers in a firefight.

Things like that, while small in scope, hugely affect the quality and readability of a story.

Right, on the tail end of my pneumonia now and getting back into the swing of things

so... how are things?

OK guys HSC story is up and running. Apparently the Gods saw fit to bless the less talented squad's with a bunch of filler crap to do. If this competition is going to be decided on who plays the most Sabaac and drinks the most before the mission even begins, then...well...that's a sad microcosm of what the Army is becoming.

Please don't sacrifice the quality of your writing just to throw a post up. Take pride in your writing and do a good job. I don't want to see any Jesters putting up three sentence posts about going to the bar or any of that crap. If you are going to post on this fluffy part, please make it a meaningful char dev post, or at least make some attempt at setting up interactions between squad members. I expect a lot from you folk with regards to the quality of your writing.

In the end, I know Jester will have the best written and most elaborate story in this competition. We will not sacrifice our pride just to take a big shit on the screen and hit post.
