Alan walked slowly through the halls on his way back to his apartment. He was tired and weary after returning back from the Paladin's latest mission on Abregado-Rae. His mind still played through over and over what Yillis had said upon their arrival home go get some R and R. He arrived at his apartment and the door slip open to let him in. When he entered, two sets of blasters immediately were directed at his face.
"I'm not in the mood" he said as he walked past his super battle droids who stood guard. They lowered their weapons and resumed their guarding. From within the apartment, a droid came out to see who had arrived. It was a luxury droid, a "betty".
"Oh thank goodness you're home and in one piece" she said as she came to his side. A surgical droid made a whining noise when it realised that Alan was indeed in one piece. It had yet to be called into action and it was getting bored. "Oh shut up" said Betty as she escorted Alan to his bedroom. Alan lowered himself onto the bed and drifted off to sleep muttering the words go get some R and R. Betty listened closely and left the room.
After a good night's sleep, Alan woke up thoroughly refreshed and wondering what he was going to do with himself whilst he waited for the Paladin squad to be called into action again. His droid had heard him waken and had walked in. She went over to his bed and dropped some papers on it.
"What's this?" queried Alan as he picked them up.
"A vacation" replied Betty.
"A what?" said Alan, the very notion was absurd.
"You did say that you were to go and get some R and R did you not" she queried.
"Well, yes" replied Alan, not knowing what else he could say.
"Well consider it sorted" replied Betty, "I have secured you a place at the resort of Karvane"
"Karvane?" queried Alan, he had been to many planets but he had never heard of this one.
Betty sighed, her circuits wondering just how uncivilised this officer truly was. She replied "Karvane is a planet completely covered by water apart from one small island. On the island there is only one hotel, a luxurious hotel. The weather is always warm and it is quite an exclusive resort. You can go, unwind and generally relax".
Alan pondered it over. It did sound very appealing and Yillis had said for him to get some rest. "How did you manage to get me booked if it's such an exclusive resort?" he queried, genuinely interested.
"Oh I think they got tired of hearing my voice" replied Betty.
Alan decided not to press the issue as he knew just how talkative his droid got when properly motivated.
"I guess I'd better pack then" he said.
Betty smiled, pleased to have brought some happiness to him. She knew that he would never have forgave her if she had told him that she had mentioned on several occasions just how important Alan was within the Vast Empire. Come to mention it, she realised that she had significantly stretched the truth a bit. Well, actually, a lot. But it did not matter to her, she had secured him the best R and R he could get and surely that was what was most important.
Elsewhere in a shuttle orbiting the planet Karvane a shadowy figure looked out through a view port at the planet below and said to himself "soon we will have you, and to think, you really thought that this planet would have let the likes of you in had we not pulled some strings". He cackled at the very notion. Behind him, several men were arming themselves well.

Slinging his bag on his bed, Alan started to pack. He was looking forward to getting some rest. It had been so long since he had that he couldn't even remember when that was. He picked up his blaster and pondered on whether to wear it or to sling it into his bag. Just at that moment, his droid entered and noticed what was about to happen.
"Surely you won't need your weapon" she said.
Alan looked at her and simply replied "well" as his mind raced for a reasonable explanation as to why he was taking it.
"The planet is a peaceful resort, there has never been any violence on it and you are going for some rest and not for target practice" she said.
Alan looked at her, his mind still trying to come up with some plausible reason for taking the weapon, in the end he conceded. "You're right" he replied as he put the weapon back. Why had he thought about taking his weapon anyway? This was supposed to be a time for relaxing. Having finished his packing he slung his back over his shoulder and started to head out of his apartment.
"Have a safe trip" said Betty as the doors slid open. Alan looked back, smiled and nodded as he exited. "Oh I thought he'd never leave" she said as she headed off to have a relaxing oil bath.
Alan walked down the corridors and entered the hangar bay. He looked at his two ships docked and pondered on which one to take. He decided on his freighter as he could just imagine what his droid would say if he piloted a heavily armed imperial gunboat to the planet. He was about to head over to his ship when one of the personnel on duty stopped him.
"Hello Sir" the officer said, "going for a little trip?"
"Yes" replied Alan "I'm heading off to Karvane for a little rest".
"Wow" commented the officer "how did you manage to get there, that's quite an exclusive resort".
Alan smiled and replied "well I think my droid got a persuasion chip installed lately".
The officer laughed and wished Alan a safe trip. Alan thanked the man and boarded his ship, his mind pondered slightly on what the officer said about it being such an exclusive resort but he decided to pay it no heed.
He fired up the engines and requested permission to depart. He was quickly granted the permission and he lifted the ship off the ground and slowly out of the hangar doors and into space. Once out, he programmed into the ships navigation computer the destination point and took the ship into hyperspace. The stars around him streaked and the ship lurched deep into hyperspace.
"Well" said Alan to no-one "Planet Karvane here I come".

A long sleek slender shuttle orbited the Planet Karvane, onboard, a shadowy figure and several hired thugs. All of them were waiting for when he would arrive. All of them had no idea why they were after him, except for one. He stood, gazing out at the Planet, his face covered beneath thick black robes, clenching his fists, waiting.
One of the thugs, a man who was known only as Bruiser, looked over at the man dressed in robes. Bruiser was the kind of person you never wanted to meet. He was heavily built, with thick muscular arms that could break bones easily. Bruiser glanced at the man and then motioned to one of the other thugs and asked "who is he?"
The other thug simply shook his head in reply and then said "beats me, I got told there was an easy job which paid well, that's good enough for me".
"Yeah" replied Bruiser, he was getting well paid to come all the way here just to capture one man but he didn't like it. Something just didn't add up and he was going to find out what. Bruiser got up and strode over to the robed man. The thug that he had chatted to turned and looked up at him and decided to go back to cleaning his weapon, he was getting well paid and didn't want to ruin a good thing.
"Hey" said Bruiser. The robed man either didn't hear or didn't want to hear. "Hey, I'm talking to you" said Bruiser, getting slightly irritated. The man looked over at him. Bruiser looked at the man but could not see his face. "Who are you?" queried Bruiser "and why are we going after this guy anyway?"
The robed figure looked at the thug before him with distaste and replied "who I am and why I want him are of no concern to you, you are being well paid to do a job and I expect you to carry it out without question".
Bruiser was not happy with that answer and said "yeah, well I think there's more to this than you're telling us and if that's the case then I want more money". The robed figure didn't reply but just stared at him. Bruiser could feel the anger coursing through him, he didn't like to be used and he didn't like being ignored. "You hear me" he said as he jabbed a finger at the man. In a blurred motion, the robed figure grabbed Bruiser's finger and twisted it, breaking it instantly. Bruiser cried out in pain and surprise. Before Bruiser could even get a chance to respond, the man grabbed Bruiser by the neck and slammed him with some force into the bulkhead of the ship. Bruiser's head made an audible crunching noise when it impacted on the ship. The robed man let go and Bruiser slumped down dead at his feet. He was not concerned by the loss, he had hired many thugs and losing one was not a big deal. He glanced around at the rest of the thugs and said "does anyone else have a problem?" He watched their faces intently, noting that no-one else wanted to oppose him. Satisfied, he returned to the view port and gazed out at the planet and thought to himself soon
Alan sat at the cockpit of the freighter as it emitted a beeping noise. He slid a lever down and the stars that were streaking past suddenly stopped and Alan found himself looking at normal space. Before him loomed a Planet. "Here at last" he said to himself as he guided the ship closer. Putting his headset on, he said into it "Planet Karvane, this is Alan requesting permission to land".
Several seconds passed and a reply came through his headphones "permission granted, have a pleasant stay".
Oh I will thought Alan as he guided the ship downwards to the only land mass the planet had.
Overhead, the robed man watched as the freighter started its descent. "And so it begins" he whispered.

Alan guided the ship down towards the solitary land mass. His descent was slow as he wanted to see the layout of the land. The island seemed relatively small and Alan noted that along the edge was miles of beautiful golden sand. The hotel was situated directly in the centre of the island and seemed to stretch upwards quite some distance. Alan wondered to himself just how many floors there was. He soon noticed the landing lights that were illuminated for him to land. The freighter came in slowly and landed gently. The ramp lowered and Alan strode out with his baggage.
"Ah, welcome, welcome" said an over eager man as he hastened over to Alan before Alan had a chance to step off the ramp. "My name is Sivian and if there is anything you need, then you just let me know".
Alan smiled and replied "thank you Sivian, right now I just want to check in and get settled".
"Of course, of course" said Sivian. He pointed to the hotel looming before them and said "just go in and you will see the main desk, they will be able to get you all set up".
"Thank you" replied Alan as he walked slowly towards the hotel. When he was out from beneath his ship, he was suddenly struck with the sun's rays. He basked in its warmth and thought to himself that he was going to really enjoy himself.
The doors of the hotel slid open and Alan walked in and up to the desk.
The man at the desk seen Alan approach and before Alan could even say one word he quickly said "Hello, you must be Alan, we've heard so much about you, now we've got you set up in room number seven, it has an excellent view".
"Thank you" said Alan, slightly surprised that the man knew exactly who he was but he figured that they would have been notified from his landing. He took the room keys from the man and headed down to room number seven. He found it easily and unlocking the door, he stepped inside. His eyes gazed in wonderment at the sheer luxury of the room. Alan could never remember seeing such splendour before in his entire life. He put his bag down and went over to the bed that looked like it had never before been slept in. He lay back down on it and sighed in joy. This is going to be a good vacation he thought.
He lay there on the bed, relaxing when suddenly his ears heard something. It sounded like a small tapping noise. "What the hell" he muttered to himself as he got up and started to try and locate the source. He headed towards the bathroom where the noise seemed to be emanating. True enough he found that the last person in hadn't turned one of the taps off properly. He turned the tap but nothing happened. It seemed to be completely turned off, yet the tap was still dripping and getting on Alan's nerve. "That's it" he said as he grabbed his bag and marched back to the hotel desk.
"Hello" said a young woman who was now at the desk. Alan wondered where the man that had greeted him had gone to but he wasn't overly bothered.
"Umm hi" replied Alan. "I've just checked in and am in room number seven, but there is a tap which is dripping and won't turn off".
The woman went to her terminal, tapped in several buttons and then said "I'm very sorry to hear that, we can change you to room number nine instead, it has just as nice a view as room number seven".
"Thanks" replied Alan as he handed her the keys and got the keys for room number nine. He entered the room and immediately listened for any noises. Satisfied that there was none he lay back on the bed to relax and unwind.
Onboard the shuttle orbiting Karvane, the robed figure simply said "it's time".
Upon his utterance of the words, the pilot plotted in a course and the shuttle started descending
Through the pilot's headphones a message was coming through which said "unknown shuttle, please identify yourself and your business". Upon hearing that, the pilot pressed a few buttons and the message stopped, replaced with static".
The hotel doors slid open and in burst several heavily armed men. The man at the front desk paled dramatically and gasped, the woman beside him screamed. One of the men pointed a blaster directly at the man's face and asked "the guy that just landed, where is he?"
The man looked at the gun, beads of sweat trickling down his forehead and stammered "h...he's in r...room s...seven". The woman glanced up at him but kept quiet.
Laying on his bed, Alan was enjoying the peace and quiet until he heard someone screaming. "What the hell" he said as he went to the door and peeked out. His eyes widened as he watched several armed men kicking in the door to room seven. Alan rushed to his bag and then cursed when he realised that he hadn't packed his weapon. Damn it thought Alan what the hell am I going to do.

Pacing his room, desperately trying to think of what to do next, Alan suddenly heard blaster fire coming from room seven and he decided he had to move before they discovered that he was actually in room nine.
Opening his door slightly, he slipped out and made a run for the staircase. One of the armed men was standing at the lobby keeping an eye on the staff behind the desk suddenly spotted Alan leaving the room and heading up the stairs. He immediately gave chase.
Alan ran fast up the stairs, he didn’t know where he was going or what his next move was going to be but right now he needed to be as far away from those guys as possible. He wondered who they were and why they were after him. His thoughts quickly evaporated when he heard someone else on the stairs. He peeked over the banister at the stairs below him and spotted one of the men rushing up after him. Oh hell thought Alan as he ran harder up the stairs.
The man in the cloaked figure exited room seven and cursed. He had hoped on finding the Imperial officer without any difficulty. One of his henchmen noticed that the guard that was looking after the staff was gone.
“Where is my man?” he growled at the staff.
The man behind the desk replied “he ran off to chase someone up the stairs”.
The cloaked figure emitted a low growl and said “he must be after the Imperial officer, find them”.
Several of his henchmen ran off and up the stairs in the pursuit of them.
Alan could feel the man chasing him get closer. He had to do something. He decided that he had to stand his ground and fight. He stopped and turned round and waited for the man to round the bend in the staircase that would put him face to face with him. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead as he waited.
His wait was not long as suddenly the man rounded the bend. Alan yelled and leapt at the man. He slammed into him, sending his blaster rifle skittering down the stairs. Both men got up and Alan launched a fist into the man’s face. The man staggered back then came at Alan as if the punch had not fazed him. He grabbed Alan roughly around the neck and lifted him up.
Alan started choking. He could feel the man’s strong grip around his neck and he struggled. The man was too strong. Alan lashed out with his feet and managed to kick the man in his face. The man bellowed in pain and flung Alan. Alan was hurled down several steps. Alan groaned in pain as he opened his eyes. Blood seeping from his forehead obscured his vision slightly but through the red haze he noticed the man’s blaster rifle laying a few feet away from him.
The man started coming down the stairs to finish what he had started. Alan lunged for the weapon and brought it to bear on the man who was nearly on top of him. He fired the weapon repeatedly. Blaster bolts struck the man in the chest and head and he collapsed down dead next to Alan.
Alan looked at the man and said “who are you?” The dead man did not reply. Alan was about to look through the man’s pockets when he heard movement on the staircase. Damn it thought Alan as he left the man and headed further up the stairs.
The henchmen ran up the stairs and soon came across their dead comrade. They sent a com message to the cloaked figure informing him of what had happened.
The cloaked figure shouted back into the com “find him, tear this place apart if you have to but I want him found!”

Alan didn’t like having to leave the dead man as he knew that he might have got some useful information from what he was carrying. The footsteps on the stairs told Alan that he didn’t have the time. He moved further up the stairs quickly and decided he needed to get into hiding before the others caught up with him. Arriving at the top of a flight of stairs, Alan decided not to go any further up but instead to enter this level and hopefully find an unlocked room. His head was swimming as blood seeped out of the wound and caused his vision to blur. Alan wiped the blood from his eyes as he stumbled down the corridor. He couldn’t believe his good fortune when he noticed that several of the rooms on this level were open for cleaning. He stumbled into the nearest room and went straight to the bathroom. He proceeded to wash the wound and grabbed a towel, pressing down on it, hoping to stem the flow of blood. Holding the towel to his head, Alan proceeded to look around the unoccupied room and came across the mini bar. Not having any credits on him, he smashed the mini bar open and grabbed a small bottle of corellian whiskey. Opening it he took a swig from it, hoping it settled him down. Removing the towel, he splashed the whiskey against the wound, hoping it would be sufficient to sterilise it. He forced himself not to cry out as the whiskey caused the wound to burn insufferably. Who are those guys and why are they after me pondered Alan. He moved to the window and looked out at the landing bay. There he spotted his freighter. If only he could get to it, he could get away from here. Alan knew that he couldn’t stay here for much longer as they would surely start a search of the entire hotel. They are certainly persistent thought Alan as he wished he knew who it was that was after him and why. Suddenly Alan could hear voices. He knew that they were hot on his trail and he wondered how they had found him so quickly. He glanced down at the floor and spotted small traces of blood and he knew that his wound had led them directly to him. Gripping his blaster, he knew that the only way out of this was to fight, but he also didn’t want to get too much attention to this level as he knew that he couldn’t take on everyone that were here after him. Alan listened at the doorway to try to ascertain how many there were on this level. He could distinctly make out two voices. “I tell you, I saw someone get off this level, it has to be him” said someone. “Look, blood” called out another, “we should let him know and get reinforcements”. “Are you insane” shouted the first voice, “he is only one man and if we bring him in ourselves then maybe he will give us an extra bonus”. “I like the sound of that, let’s go get him”. Alan could hear them approaching the room he was in. He breathed deeply as he hid in the bathroom, waiting for them. It felt like an eternity before they entered the room. Alan’s heart was racing, he didn’t know whether they wanted him dead or alive and Alan didn’t want to find out. He knew he had to take them out, but quietly. Alan could sense them searching the room and knew it was only a matter of time before they looked in the bathroom. The door started to creak as Alan watched it opening slowly. Here we go thought Alan as he prepared to launch himself against the oncoming men. - OOC:

The door creaked open slowly and Alan moved so that he was behind the door. A blaster appeared through the small opening as the door opened more. Now thought Alan as he rammed his shoulder against the half open door with all of his might. The man bellowed in pain as Alan crushed the man’s hand in the doorway.
The man dropped the blaster instantly and clutched his hand. Alan wasted no time in grabbing the blaster. He knew that the other man would be targeting him now that they knew he was in here. He still didn’t know whether they were here to kill him or not and he didn’t want to wait to find out.
The door came crashing in and Alan barely had time to escape the door from smashing him in the face. The man stormed in and began firing his blaster. On pure instinct, Alan leapt up in the air and dived into the bath tub. It didn’t matter to him that his head bounced off the hard surface making his ears ring.
Without thinking, his blaster poked out from the tub and began firing. Alan didn’t even look at what he was shooting at. His body ached, his head was ringing and his forehead throbbed badly and right now all he could think of was how to survive.
His random shooting sounded like it caused some success as Alan could hear a cry of pain. He wasn’t sure whether he had hit the injured man or the other one but he knew that he couldn’t stay in the tub forever. He peered out from the tub and saw one of the men lying down and unmoving. The other was on his knees, blood seeping from his side as he still clutched his hand.
Alan staggered out of the tub, every part of him in agony. He hadn’t realised how hard he had launched himself into the tub and now his body was clearly telling him. He moved over to the injured man and pointed his blaster at the man’s head.
“Who are you and why are you after me?” asked Alan.
The man spat at Alan’s feet. He was in too much pain to do anything else but he wasn’t about to reveal anything. Alan needed to get some information out of him. He thought about inflicting pain on him to force him to talk but part of him worried about attracting the attention of the rest of the men still in the hotel. He had hoped that the fire fight had not alerted them to his position but he hadn’t heard anyone coming up the stairs.
“I said talk” said Alan more forcible, pressing the muzzle of the blaster more firmly against the man’s head as his finger pressed down slightly on the trigger.
“I don’t get paid to ask questions” replied the man.
Alan knew there and then that he was just a hired hand and that there would be no useful information to be had. If he wanted to get to the bottom of this then he would have to confront the leader of this group of men, only he would have the answers.
Alan looked at the fallen man and although he posed no threat to Alan right now he also knew that he couldn’t let him live. Alan grabbed the man around the throat. The man’s eyes widened in fear as he tried to get out from the hold but his body was too weak, he had lost too much blood. Alan twisted savagely and listened to the crack as the man’s neck snapped. He lowered the man to the ground and stood up shakily.
Taking his blaster he decided to leave this level as if anyone had heard the weapons fire then this was where they would come to. He staggered out slowly out from the room. A sharp pain was suddenly felt on the back of his skull. So intense was the pain that Alan felt his eyes close and the world turn black as his body crumpled to the floor.
Two men stood over Alan, one slinging his rifle back over his shoulder and saying “let’s take him to the boss”.
