ok, of late there have been rumblings on the irc channel that it would be kinda cool to have a VE hoodie. any ideas, opinions, or input would be welcomed on this topic. currently they are a few issues. one is whether we just want hoodies, or hoodies and boxers, or a full line including t-shirts and hats.
there is also another issue. this one hinges partly on the decision of the beginning issue. we could either have a mini store inside a larger retailer, or do it another, more complicated, but possibly cheaper way. i know cafepress.com offers a service such as might fit us and i believe amazon has something similar to that. or, we could get the shirt d3signed by someone, i think ani already has a good ide for the hoodie, and then just either get it copied or get it digitized, then distribute ny required designs to anybody that wishes for them. at that point, the person would take the design to a local t-shirt shop and have the design made.
please share anything that comes across your mind, i'm open to suggestions. -----------------------

Hmm. I don't know. I know it's great to be in the VE, but don't you think that that's a little overboard? *shrugs* Up to you guys, I guess, but personally, I wouldn't spend my money on something like that. -----------------------

cos, i respect your opinion. i see where it's coming from.
ep, if you do that, try to get it scanned or something, so the rest of VE can use it if they want to.
more responses are welcome, directly nswering the questions and with general opinions.
1. do you think there should be boxers, and if so, should it be the imp ones from Imp Center, some VE design, or both.
2. hoodies or hoodies and t-shirt?
3. store or self distributed?
4. any other things i didn't list. -----------------------

The EH does this, don't they? They have an online store.. selling hoodies, boxers, mugs (thats the drinking variety, not their members  ), etc..
It would be cool. But bear in mind that theres a lot of teenagers in the VE, and some of em don't have credit cards.. i.e. me  -----------------------

Not a bad idea, g5. I'm all for it. Though what exactly we should order, I'm not too sure on. I'd rather just have a shirt cause hoodies are more expensive. Hehe. The boxers would be cool, though. So if it's only hoodies AND shirts, then I suppose I am for all three things.  -----------------------

I don't mean to be a party pooper guys, but what would happen if Lucas Arts© got wind of this? I mean, aren't we supposed to be a "non-profit" organization. Plus, I don't wanna have to pay $10,000 just to keep the VE open. I mean, don't get me wrong. I think that the store is a GREAT idea, but what would happen when it was found out that a "non-profit" organization is selling Hoodies, T-shirts, boxers, and whatnot. It would not look too good for the VE, that is for sure. -----------------------

Its not just a case of printing VE stuff onto clothes and then selling them to each other. We have to think about credit card safety, anti-credit card fraud, copyrighting, laws, international trade agreements (since we all live in differant countries, there might be some laws prohibiting the sale of this sort of thing to certain countries), currency, etc, etc, etc.
Is anyone a lawyer here? You'd need to check everything through first, to check you aren't going to break any laws..
HOWEVER, if you just intend to sell the stuff to VE members (and not have it available to anyone else), it could be sold.. Basically, by giving the goods to the person for free - and then the person gives you the money for free, so no transaction has officially taken place.
Or something.  -----------------------

hehe you guys need to know more about what this would go to if it where to happen.
For many you will be thinking that it will be for personal gain. And in a way it can be. However if I were to do this I would do it for the VE. What most ppl don't understand is that it takes A LOT of money to host domains and servers, expecially CF servers w/ dbases. We would be able to sell things to pay for these services, hence the non-profit. And if I wanted to sell things on the side that my business...not particuarly the VE's But setting up something like that would take alot of time and money in the first place...so I dunno -----------------------

guys, basically, something that could get rid of most of your concerns is just having someone design shirt and whatever else, then distribute the designs for a minimum charge. becasue it costs money to set up a shopping cart system(i think) that would not be good. what people could do, if they wanted, was just buy the pttern, have it sent to them through the mail, then send the bill back with a check or some cash.
and like ani said, servers are expensive to run. i think a lot of you don't realize that our leaders pay for the servers and domain out of there own pocket and put a lot of time into designing these pages. personally, i think that that is a very important thing, i like having one of the nicest sites on the internet as ours. -----------------------

Yea, but the VE is based on Star Wars, is it not? So wouldn't u need the copyrights to those items or pictures even if it is the vastempire? Like for example the logo has three SW ships if I am not mistaken. Wouldn't u need some kind of permission just to be able to sell that? -----------------------
