Old School Sci-fi

We all remember a time... before CGI took over every movie coming out... in which we used strings and models and other stuff to make special effects. The question is: Are any of these movies any good?

I'm just curious because some movies are good, but others are total crap. And remakes of old movies don't count. It has to be the original.

We can argue about movies all day long...and probably will.

But honestly, I used to watch Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers in the 80s and enjoyed that despite the budgets.

Most sci-fi movies of any decent recall would have to have a very good storyline. Hell, just check out any of the Bradbury Mars movies. Horrid effects, good story. 2001 as well.

I'm rambling. Any other examples?

The mother of all sci-fi movies, made by Carpenter (Vampires) and O'Bannon (All the Alien movies) when they were in school still, has the worst sound and visual effects in the world. It's hilarious and I wish I could get my hands on a copy. The captain is creepy.

Beach balls make great aliens, and anyone who tells you otherwise is full of crap! Just don't shoot them with a tranquiliser dart.
