Background

Thanks to a helpful suggestion from a recruit here in the VENA (Vast Empire Naval Academy), this has been created for a few reasons. As a member of BT (Basic Training), you are a part of a group known as "Venom Squadron."

So, while you are not in an official VEN active squadron like Aegis, Kaph or Nazgul, you are assigned to a group that gives you a name in the VEN. This can be used as a part of your ID line or for just general information to others when they ask where you've been assigned.

The reason I really like this idea is that it will allow you, the recruits, to commute, organize and enthrall yourselves with the VEN. What I'd like to see is you guys communicating, just telling each other about yourselves and getting to know one another. Judging by how well you guys supply each other with information and work with one another, you will be put into a squadron and made into a flight element.

What is a flight element? Quite simply- a pilot and his wingman. In the VEN, we have fleets then smaller groups called wings and even smaller portions called squadrons. Within the squadron you have three flights of four pilots. In a squadron you have a SC (Squadron Commander) and an XO (Executive Officer) as well as a FL (Flight Lead) for every flight. The FL of first flight is normally the SC, and the FL of second is sometimes the XO. The third flight is almost always a separate member of the squadron with a rank similar to the rest of the squadron members. Of course, these positions can change and are not always reserved, but that's generally how it goes so we'll practice that in this group.

Back to the main idea- we want you guys to work with each other. At a point in your training you will be required to make story post and you will be allowed to pick two to three members of your training group to go with you on that mission. Since you are able to communicate through this thread, you can tell each other who you've included in your story post. The VENA will allow you to do a fair number of things, so don't be bashful when you want to ask something. We're here to help.

How this works

Well, if you're here you've already completed II (Imperial Initiation) and are already going on FS (Flight School). As you progress through FS, you will be judged on efficiency, thoroughness and overall understanding and ability to be active and contributive to the VEN. After you have completed your short courses and are eligible for a squadron upon completion of the Aviator's Exam, you will be given a class rank for your graduation day. Your graduation day is always up for change, but most often it will be on a Sunday during the VE meeting. That rank allows you to have an idea of where you are in terms of ability and chances to rise up in the VEN. If you are number one in your class and there are at least three people in that graduating class, you are eligible for a promotion to PO2 (Petty Officer Second Class), and Senior Crewman at the least. If second, promotion is likely soon after graduation; if there are not over three people the above has no bearing. The difference between the PO2 and SCRW rank depends on the outcome of your Aviator's Exam for the one who comes in first of their class.

Once you have graduated with your Aviator's Certificate [(=A=) for the ID line] , then you are out of this squadron and into an active one.

When you are in an active squadron you will be able to participate in contest, squadron competitions, free-writing as well as mission based writing from the squadron, wings and maybe fleets.

So, enjoy your time here- its a time to learn but also have an excellent time. If you take your training to heart, you can have this done in about four days depending on the schedule of the trainer at the time as well as that of the recruits. The best to you- rock on.

Lol, well Venom Squadron was the name of the training group, or atleast the last time I saw it.  So, now I've made this so it'll be a little more like a squadron- you'll be a bit better prepared I suppose.  I could start having you guys make reports right now actually, but I know exactly what you're doing, lol.  Good practice though...  I'll have to think on that.  If you wanna show up for the meeting today though, some interesting things will be happening.  That's about all I have to say- so...  Rock On.

wing 2 has Viper and Sting under it, and the roster doesn't show the third squadron.

No one ever reads who the second commander guy is, do they?  No, commander Shazam is not actually a trainer and Desus Squadron is just one training group.  I, Shazam, am commander of Training, but the person Shazam is almost nowhere near training.  You notice, if you go back to Training NPCs, that there is a second trainer obsessed with Technique.  That was Shazam's teacher- Comprey Courtney has a training group of his own.  So, this training group here, this is the RL (although not really real, lol) group.  The training groups under those NPC commanders are the story groups- use those in your story post...  This is for actual reference.  Alright, a little redundant, but I got the point I think.  Any more questions- keep 'em comin; I'm going to make a FAQ.

Well, im a new recruit and ive allready posted my bio, and hi to all the other new recruits! go venom squadron!!!!

I am a new recruit, so I suppose I aught to introduce myself. The name is Terran Balan. Greetings to all my compadres in Venom "Squadron". I am a little unclear as to how to procede from here, so a little info would be nice.

Hrm- I think we need to get to using this a little more, but it was mainly for use in coordinating story posts.  Never the less, we're going to start requiring the recruits to get atleast one report before they go through to a squadron.  Thoughts on how we could use this thread further?  I'm thinking it could be a place to write for fun and communicate with others in training, though however short of time that might be.  We might also let them know about this thread then, so they might atleast know momentarilly what its like to be in a squadron...  Thoughts?  I'd just like them to communicate outside thier thread- perhaps with some people in squadrons that can help persuade them to continue thier training.

What if we just made it one, tremendous run-on?  People walking around the academy.  We'd have to decide on a place to put it and what not, but anyone on the staff or in training could be involved- people coming back to take more advanced classes could include themselves as well and set a good example for character development.  We wouldnt' write as ourselves, but perhaps teachers or other members of the faculty.  Thoughts?  I've also been thinking of re-christening the academy squadron as Sting squadron, once again.  I know that's what it used to be now, so I'm still considering.
