Kanderin:

The group sat at the camp for a while, many of them checking the various shrubbery for useful equipment. Slick was sat next to the recovering guide, occasionally checking his wound for infection.
Lukas and Snipes were sat by the fire, quietly talking about the upcoming raid. They stayed for a further hour or so, before the guide again started showing signs of movement. he sat up from his resting place and took a drink from the flask Slick had left him. He was then helped to his feet by Slick and Kanderin, and the group started to get ready to move.

"I judge its about another hour walk to where we are intercepting the convoy." Mentioned Snipes, checking the map he ws holding.
"We need to get those supplies first remember, without them the raid will be more or less hopeless" said Slick.
"Oh yeah i forgot, in that case we want to head that way" Slick pointed his thumb in the opposite direction to the way they were heading, sparking a groan from Slick and Kanderin.

"It's not far from here, keep an eye out for the boulder that was used as a indication of it's location." Stammered the guide.

The group knew that there was a smal chance the enemy would be around, so they kept their guard up, with a pair of infantrymen guarding the front and back of their advance.

---------------------Twenty Minutes later-------------------

"There! Theres the boulder!"
The boulder was just ahead of them. It was strangely round for its location, and looked like it was God's bowling ball. Once they got closer to it, a small mountain also came into view, a little on their left. It must of been about forty feet tall, but the front of it was covered in huge boulders, making it seem like a landslide.

"The stock is in there" indicatd the guide, poiting a weak finger at the mountain.
"We cant get through all those boulders!" sighed Arnaut, almsot in defeat.
"We dont need to, see that skull encarved on the far wall? Kick it."

Arnaut looked at the guide as if he was crazy, but then shurgged his shoulder and walked over to it.  The skull had dark eerie eyes, as if dearing you to touch the mountain. Arnaut froze for a moment, but then lifted his foot up into a hurdle position, and kicked the skull hard in the face.

A whole section of the mountain wall fell down, about ten metres across, revealing the glimmering inside of the mountain. Arnaut stood there awestruck, while the rest ran in and started checking everything was there. Slick and Kanderin left the guide sitting against the boulder, and then ran in to investigate the two ships.

"Man i cant wait to drive one of these" cried Kanderin, gently stroking the body as if it would break at the slightest jab.

Just then, the guide came running in, almost healed miraculously.
"Sergeant! the convoy is moving faster than we expected, ive jsut saw them moving past the trees about one hundred yards to our west!"
"My god! Move it men, we need to get to that convoy fast!"

D'har

D'har grabbed his Bi-Polar carbine that he had put on the ground to check out a big makeshift heavy repeating blaster on the wall.  He rushed to the shuttle and jumped in right next to Kanderin.  Virius jumped in the driver's seat and Slick jumped in next to him.  Slick looked at his datapad and pointed in the direction of the point where they would intercept the convoy.

Arnaut jumped in the driver's of the other shuttle and followed suit.  Slick's voice cracked over the intercom, "Alright boys, pay attention.  We'll be arriving at the interception point shortly.  When we get there Arnaut and Virius will build a barricade on the road.  We will wait off to the side for the Reb-, err, I mean New Republic soldiers should get out to take down the barricade.  When this happens, Lukas and Kanderin will take out any turret gunners in the convoy.  The rest of us will open fire on the rest of the convoy."

Kanderin looked at D'har.  "I've never killed anyone before.  I don't know if I'm ready for it."  D'har replied instantly.  "Well the good news is that you only have one first kill and you become ready for the rest, and don't worry about freezing up, you'll at least subconsciously recognize the need to act.  On the other hand, after the battle, you will probably feel kind of depressed, which will last a day or two.  The first time I killed somebody it was a bit harder to take.  I was 14 when it happened, but it's really a story for another time."

5 MINUTES LATER

"Alright, we're here.  Everybody get out and see if you can help Arnaut and Virius, well except Kanderin and Lukas, you guys set up somewhere.  And Tareeth, you stay here."

The squad got to work, grabbing whatever they could from the surrounding area.  Within minutes, the squad had built up a barricade and moved off to the side.

3 MINUTES LATER

Lukas' voice crackled over the intercom as he put down his electrobinoculars.  "I see the convoy.  I count one, two, three, four.  Four cargo skiffs and two speeders."

The convoy made its way to the barricade, just stopping short of the Wraith position.  Just as expected, the convoy stopped and a few soldiers got out.  However, one of the speeders made its way towards Wraith squad.

Slick gave the order, "Open fire on the speeder!"  Bolts flew out of Wraith's blasters and put quite a few holes in the speeder and hit the pilot in the neck.  Bolts came from the convoy not hitting too much due to the fact that Wraith squad was rather hard to spot, considering the fact that they blended in almost perfectly with the pitch black night.  A few pops were heard and a considerable amount of the convoy's firing stopped.  One skiff dropped its gate and a squad of soldiers hurried out, greeted by incoming fire.

Arnaut:

Swift and efficient...the best way to kill.

Their speeders broke through the grass and opened fire. The soldiers on the ground were mercifully cut down first. They would have to suffer the pain of watching their friends die. The others, however, were not so lucky, and were in no mood to die today. They started to speed away, but just became targets for haywire grenades. The first to run away got a concussion grenade right in the speeder's engine. The resulting explosion threw the torn bodies from the car and into the air. Arnaut grimly averted his gaze from corpses and stayed focused to the task at hand.

Two speeders were already pretty much down, but eighteen remained. Intel wasn't kidding when they said a large convoy. Arnaut's rifle spewed death into the second car knocking three men off of it, bleeding in the tall grass. Now that the initial shock was over, the convoy determined they outnumbered their attackers, and started firing back. Speeders were turned around to charge at the squad. Wrong move.

As the first convoy speeder charged at the squad, guns firing, Arnaut primed an explosive. Just as it passed by, Arnaut stuck the explosive to the side of it. As the speeder turned for another charge...it erupted into giant fireball, which engulfed an unlucky convoy speeder next to it. Both pieces of now molten slag fell to the ground, their occupants gone.

The convoy vehicles were getting frantic now. The squad had already destroyed four speeders, and the convoy hadn't landed a scratch on them. That wasn't to say the squad wasn't scared. So far nothing had gone according to plan. The convoy was running everywhere, when it should almost be completely decimated by now. The smoke would attract the New Republic soon, and that was a fight the squad did not want to get into.

The squad speeder shot haywire grenades in all directions. The speeders who got hit suddenly shut down as their electronics were fried. Arnaut jumped out of his speeder, explosive in hand, and ran toward the downed convoy vehicle, from behind so they wouldn't notice. They mainly had their attention on the rest of his squad, who were laying down covering fire.

One of the members turned around and earned himself a bolt in the throat, via Arnaut's E-11 rifle. The others didn't know their friend was dead until he hit the ground with a thud, and by that time the explosive was set, and Arnaut was running in the opposite direction, detonator in hand. Of course, they didn't know they had an explosive on the downed speeder. It was toward the bottom, the least armored part of the whole vehicle. Arnaut tapped the detonator. Bodies flew in all directions.

They was quite a bit a smoke now, bellowing out of the wreckage of five different speeders, and Arnaut could not see the rest of his squad. Raising his rifle, he cautiously stepped through the swirling smoke, looking for a new target. He had no more explosives, but he figured some of his grenades would work just as well to blow of the supplies.

Arnaut was thankful for his helmet, as the smoke had gotten thicker, and would've been almost impossible to breath in. Looking ahead, all he could see was darkness, so he tried switching on his thermal goggles, Nothing happened. They must've broken. Damn, I'm blind in this smoke.

Arnaut stumbled on a little further until the whine of a speeder's engine rose above the rest. It was etting close. And from the sound of it, it was part of the convoy. As the speeder shot out of the smoke beside Arnaut, he raised out his hand to grasp the edge of it. The yank nearly tore his arm from his socket, but he held on. He raised his rifle and drew bead on the driver's head. The blue speeder turned red and pink, but Arnaut wasn't through. Knocking aside the first trooper in front of him, he climbed aboard and started pulling out his grenades. By the time the rebels had shoved him out of the speeder, all his grenades were primed and on their deck. With just one more blazing fireball then he'd cared to witness today, the speeder vanished.

Arnaut silently checked another speeder off his mental list and went searching through the smoke again.

Kanderin took one hand off the controls of the ship and turned his infra-red vision on. From that he counted another nine mounted speeders, and for the first time in a while his fellow squad members. The majority of them were still hiding at the barrier, causing chaos. But then he noticed a figure in the middle of the chaos, with what appeared to be stormtrooper armour. He appeared to be attempting to run back to the barrier, but could'nt see a thing through the smoke.

Then something else caught Kanderin's attention, a speeder turning around on a line that would run him straight over the trooper. Kanderin jumped out of the ship and quickly ran over to Lukas in the other ship. He shouted into his ear what he was doing, which Lukas responded to with a thumbs up. He then headed over to the barrier and leaped it quickly, not breaking pace on his path to the trooper.

Once he was close enough the trooper turned out to be Arnaut, who spun around quickly to face Kanderins charge. Draken tackled him to the ground with inches to spare, and the speeder missed by mere centimetres. The bike stopped and again started to turn around for another run. But Draken was on him.  He rolled quickly onto his stomach while un-holstering his blaster, and paused for only a mili second before firing a shot at the driver. The shot was dead on and the driver collapsed in a sprawled heap, with the speeder crashing and exploding into a tree. He then pulled Arnaut up to his feet, and both ran back to the safe side of the barrier.

"Slick, how many left!" Shouted yoder, while throwing a grenade over the barrier at an approaching speeder.
Slick quickly switched to infra red and counted them.
"I count five, maybe six left"
"correction, four" grinned Yoder, while being showered with speeder parts.
"No, two" Laughed Snipes,as he got rained with parts from two speeder bikes, making Yoder frown.

It seemed only one of the speeders would be a problem. It was putting up a fight, and keeping up its speed making it hard to hit. The other was panicking amongst the smoke, and was quickly cut down by Kanderin.

"Your right Leth, this does get easier!"  he shouted over, making leth point a thumb at him.
"Quickly guys! I think i can hear reinforcements not far away!"
Luck was on their side today though, the rider had stalled the speeder and was panicking trying to get moving again. He was massacred from four seperate rifles, and what was left of him sat steaming on the floor.

Arnaut spun around to Slick.
"What now then sir?"

The landspeeder tuned to face the barrier. C'mon speeder, just a little closer. If the speeder didn't come soon, the reinforcements would arrive before their mission was complete. Arnaut fired a warning shot at the speeder. It twanged off the metal but was enough to make them duck.  Now they were getting angry. So the best thing to do was to stir their anger.

Arnaut tapped Kanderin on the shoulder, and they both moved from hiding to the top of the barrier wall. Raising their guns high they started to yell jests at the speeder. Needless to say, they didn't like it very much. They all raised their weapons and fired upon the two Imperials who immediately ducked for cover.

"Oh for the love of..." Slick muttered.  This would continue until reinforcements arrived, no doubt, if something was not done. Convoy speeder at one end, Imperials at the other.

"Alright everyone, your grenades. Get ready to throw on my mark."

"But sir...these are our last grenades." Kanderin said worriedly. "What about the reinforcements coming."

"If this works, we won't need to fight reinforcements." Grenades appeared in everyone's hand.

"Now!" And as they threw, the great shadow of a troop shuttle flew overhead. The rebels in the remaining car were too preoccupied about that to notice the small canisters landing underneath their car. And when they did, it was too late. The driver hit the accelerator on the car and tried to speed off, just as the grenades exploded. It wasn't a direct hit, but enough to cripple the craft and maim its occupants.

Fuel tank ruptured, engines bellowing black smoke, steering devices broken, the land speeder went flying out of control until the repulsorlifts finally gave way, and it smashed itself into the ground. Now all they had to do was destroy any remaining supplies in the few seconds before the shuttle landed and started deploying troops.

Explosives were handed out and everyone chose a half-destroyed piece of speeder to blow up. No supplies must remain intact. Arnaut chose to go to the newest piece of speeder on the ground. He tossed his explosive pack in the gaping hole that was in the back of the craft. All around him, the squad was doing the same, and soon the whole place was rigged. They sprinted from the field back behind the barrier to their waiting speeders. And they sat to watch the show.

Cautiously, from the direction the shuttle had landed, two rebel marines poked their heads out of the tall grass. Seeing the way clear, the jumped out of the grass and called their friends to join them in the hunt for salvageable supplies and survivors. Once a good amount of marines were in the field, poking through the debris, Slick decided it was time to blow up the evidence. He clicked the detonator.

Any marine standing directly next to a pile of rigged debris was vaporized almost instantly. The other, less fortunate ones, were torn apart by shrapnel or roasted alive in the explosion. The squad hurried back to the speeder, knowing there would inevitably be more New Republic troops on their tail soon. But for now, mission completed, they just had to make it back to the supply cache and set up their listening outpost.

As they sped off, Arnaut silently wondered if the other squads were having this much success. Hopefully. And then he noticed the sun was setting. They had been out almost all day. Arnaut nodded off to sleep, knowing that they had a long trip ahead of them.

D'har wondered as he gazed out the transparisteel window of the shuttle.  He wondered if there were any survivors of the convoy attack, if his comrades on some other part of this planet were dying just like those New Republic soldiers.  He and the rest of Wraith squad were sitting in their respective shuttles with their helmets off, some talking, others wondering.

"It feels kind of weird," Kanderin said.  D'har did a double-take as he was yanked from his thoughts.  "Killing someone, I mean."  D'har looked off into space as he spoke, "Yeah well, like I said, you'll get used to it eventually like most people.  Like some of my friends back on Nar Shaddaa, I on the other hand am a bit of a different story.  I fly into this rage, I see what's happening, but I sit and watch, without so much as a thought going through my mind as my body pushes forward, seeing exactly what's going on and leaving me clueless.  They fall and neither they nor I can do a thing about it as my body moves and kills in perfect harmony with everything around it."

Kanderin, along with every other wraith on board speechlessly looked at D'har.  "But really that's not much of a problem, and besides we have things to do instead of just stare at me.  There's a war going on and we're a central part of it."

No one said a word the rest of the ride back to the supply cache.  When Wraith arrived on sight they looked about, as if expecting an ambush.

Slick came forward, "Alright, what we should do now is secure our position, build an observation post and wait for further orders.  Virius, you set up any listening equipment you can find.  D'har and Kanderin, you two go set up some heavy weapons and Arnaut will put up a barricade.  Lukas, find a good place to spot from."

Virius found a holotransceiver and set it up on a desk and flipped the power switch.  He then set up a metal satellite receiver he found, hooked it up to the holotransceiver, put a microphone on the wire switch and pointed it out of the mountain entrance.

Lukas set up motion detecting holorecorders across the mountain entrance and wired them to a holotransceiver at his viewing station.

D'har and Kanderin went over to the weapons and started looking for emplacement weapons.  D'har found an EWeb (15) with a shield generator attachment, and Kanderin found a MiniMag PTL missile launcher.  They set them up on the sides of the cave entrance.  D'har hit the power switch on the EWeb and the Gk7 cryocooler and he and Kanderin went to help Arnaut with the barricade.

Yoder made sure that all there equipment was fine and nothing was broken or booby trapped. After he was done Yoder went over to slick and started a conversation. Yoder said" Slick you wondering how the frontlines are doing with jester and raider holding them with some other troops." Slick replied." No not really I know there doing fine, so how's the equipment trooper"." Its fine sir."

Then Yoder walked briskly over to the trees and looked past every one of them, to make sure there were no enemies around. There weren't any that Yoder could see even with sharp eyes.

After they were almost done with the barricade. Yoder ran back in the cave, and watched with Lukas the outlaying area.

Kanderin was sat leaning against a tree, looking through the trees to the sky ahead. It must of still been only lunchtime. He was flying through his head rechecking what had happend over the last hour or so. He saw the man in the transport who he had murdered in cold blood. It was'nt murder, if he did'nt do it the driver would of simply killed him and Arnaut. But still, that could not of been further from his true reaction, if it was'nt for his mission.

Kanderin had been fine on the trip back from the firefight, but now slumped on his own with only heavy weaponry to keep him comfortable, he was starting to get a somewhat 'hangover'. A hand on his shoudler shook him from his trance, and he glanced up to the owner of the hand. D'har was looking down on him, a worried look on his face.

"Kand, You ok?" He asked. Kanderin paused for asecond but then shook his head.
"Im fine"
"i told you this would happen" He answered, as reading Kanderins mind. Kanderin was beginning to fall back into his trance, until a small box landed with a whallop at his feet.
"Eat that, you'll feel better"

D'har then headed over to a small boulder, sat on it and positioned his ration pack on his legs. They sat idlely talking while eating, although neither of them were paying full attention to the conversaton, they were both still experiencing the aftereffects of the battle. D'har finsihed his rations and walked over to the opening into the main swamps a few metres ahead. He scanned the trees, but it was too far away to get a proper check.

"This is hopeless, i cant see anything, its all too far away" D'har snarled angrily, kicking the nearest tree.
"Wait here, i got an idea" Kanderin called to him, jumping up from his place. He ran back over towards the cave entrance, pointing a questionable thumbs up to Yoder who was now sat up in a tree, which he returned not long after. Draken took the rifle from its resting place in the corner of the cave, and ran back over to their home-made weapons emplacement. He then crouched at the same boulder Leth had ate at, and set up the rifle.

"Theres no point firing artillery at a single soldier is there?" He grinned at D'har, who laughed in response.
With the normal scope, it all seemed to be pretty fuzzy from whatever was evaporating out of the pools. Kanderin cursed udner his breath and switched the rifle to infra-red vision, which immediately illuminated everything in a crimson-red colour, apart from Leth, who glew various colours, from green to a dark red.
"Much better" He acknowledged, and got himself in a comfy sniping position.

Slick was sat with snipes, a radio at his left hand, eagerly waiting for the crackling voice's of his superiors on it. He had grown tired of this stinking, hot and dark area of the marshes, and he sensed the rest of his squad felt the same way. He opened his mouth to say something to Snipes, but was cut off early by an approaching Yoder.
"Sir! A rebel infantry group is heading past us, about two-hundred metres to out right" He pankiclingly explained to Slick, but attempting to keep the quietest voice he possibly could.

Once the Dragoons had passed through the northern gate of Montellian Serat, they all brought their bikes to a halt.

"Ok," Zafo began "So we know there is an enemy encampment about five miles to the north. Reports indicate that there are small skirmishing forces still lurking around between here are there."

The squad nodded. It seemed most of them just wanted to get onto the mission before they fell asleep. None of them had gotten any sleep due to the challenges they faced back on the river.

"We need to take them out so that the mobile artillery can be moved forwards to strike by nightfall. Their communications are down for now so they won't be able to contact base or each other to collaberate on taking us down. Be careful not to get too close to their encampment or our cover will be blown and we'll be taken out in a matter of minutes. We good?"

"Yes." Was replied on many different tones.

"Let's do it."

Giovanni was a little fidgety on his bike. He looked like a total amateur next to Zafo, who handled his bike like he had been riding them his entire life, and he probably had. It would take getting used to, but one thing was certain: Speed was something Giovanni couldn't live without. He fidgeted some more and the got off his bike to review the plan with his newly appointed squad leader and the rest of the Dragoons.

"Alright, i trust everyone understands the plan. Stay away from the encampments and try not to rustle anything up. Lets take out these bastards quickly and quietly. Anyone haveing problems handling their bikes?" Zafo finished and looked around the Dragoons. The more experienced bike riders merely laughed or scoffed, while the less adept ones just shrugged it off.

"Ok, follow me. Global positioning shows the last reported enemy position about 5 km from here. Stay quiet and try to keep up." Zafo put his helmet back on and jumped onto his speedbike and took off, trailed by the rest of the squad in a cloud of dust.

The radio chatter in his helmet was distracting him greatly, so he switched to a private squad channel and heard nothing but silence and the sound of the wind rushing past his head.

The changes in elevation and some winding roads made it a little difficult for Giovanni to keep up, but after a while he had become comfortable with the response of his bike to the terrain. Pretty soon, slowing down into a turn wasnt an option.

The rest of the Dragoons were also doing pretty well. At the front of the pack were Zafo, closely followed by Evani. It was peculiar how he could figure out who they were just by the markings on their armor. He really had been around them for quite a while. He could make out Vint, but the rest of the people he had no clue about.

Pretty soon the squad leader decreased his speed and the others followed suit.

Like the sun, rising massive over the horizon, the enemy encampment came into view. It was a massive force and it became apparent to Giovanni and his squadmates why they were advised to keep their distance.

The group hovered by slowly and stopped. They were approaching the last known position of one of the remaining skirmish forces.

Giovanni lent an attentive ear to his squad leaders and awaited orders.

Once the squad had stopped, Zafo dismounted from the 74-Z. The wind whipped through his hair as his eyes scanned the massive enemy encampment clearly visible, yet so far away. He pulled out a pair of electro-binoculars from his side and began scanning the terrain. The ground was wavy, forming an endless series of small valley's and rolling hills. Luckily, the Dragoons found themselves on one of the higher points of land, making scouting that much easier.

"Gotcha!" Zafo let out through clenched teeth. Just marching into view from behind a blind spot, a group of New Republic troops was marching around a lightly armored tracked tank.

"There's about twenty of them," The Senior Sergeant continued "and one lightly armed tank. Seems like they are heading into another valley."

"Ambush?" Evani proposed casually as she too examined the enemy with a pair of binoculars.

"I like the sound of it." Zafo replied, still gazing through the mechanism. "Giovanni, Jenny and Bryan, you are with me. We'll take 'em head on. The rest of you with Evani and surprise em from behind."

Zafo remounted the speedy device and kicked it to life. The second his helmet was back over his head, he maxed out the accelerators, dipping down into the valley bellow them. He weaved between a couple of lone standing trees with ease.

"Live Fast, Ride Faster." Zafo thought as he tucked into a tight curved around the scorched remains of a Devaronian vessel.

As the neared the entrance to the valley their prey should now be entering, Zafo drastically slowed his speed.

"My sensors are defiantly picking up life forms," Giovanni commented, easingZafo's doubt. "They are there alright."

"Ride in a parallel formation. Once we pass them over, just worry about taking them out. We'll worry about the tank last, with our speed it will be practically useless."

Upon closing the connection, Zafo's bike lurched backwards as he accelerated towards the enemy...

The roaring of the tank had become clearly distinguishable amongst the uniform hum of the speeder bikes and this no doubt put Zafo, Jennabelle and Bryan on edge. Coming over another hill, they caught sight of their prey. About eighteen to twenty men made up the group and marched at either sides of the tank.  The path they followed lay in the middle of the two grassy humps making it perfect for Evani's group to lay down suppressive fire from a higher location.

Zafo's voice broke radio silence, "Heads up."

The tank turret swung their way, and the 4 bikes broke off in separate directions. The slight concussion and the plumes of smoke left by the tank shells were a very real distraction, but at that speed there was almost no chance the tank would hit anything, so the Dragoons went to work. The built-in comlink scrambler further disrupted the enemys short term communication, causing them all to scramble for cover.

Amateurs, Giovanni thought to himself.

His single blaster cannon pulsed ominously as it approached the tank. The first two shots were deflected by the tanks armor. Lucky number three however, clipped a rebel in the shoulder and sent him spinning into his comrade. A quick draw from the pistol and two shots later, both had been taken care of. Zafo seemed like he was also doing well, his mastery of the 74-Z clearly setting him apart from the rest of the group.

By now the small force had been wittled down to less than half the intial strength, with seven of them left huddling around the tank for cover.

"Im having trouble taking these sneaky bastards out..." yelled Bryan over the comlink.

"Be patient, keep the suppressive fire on the tank." yelled back Gio.

The bolts kept the rebels at bay, while over the opposite hill, the second group, led by Evani, rode into battle. Right away, the neon bolts rained on the rebels position. They were easily dispelled. As soon as the last of the infantry fell, their attention went back to the tank, who was still firing futile shots into the surrounding hills.

"I have an idea," said Zafo. "But it's gonna take some teamwork..."

Virius walked out of his small sniper's nest that he shared with Lukas and he stretched, spying Slick, Virius wandered over as he adjusted his BMC carbine on his shoulder.
"What's up?" Virius said looking at the other black clad trooper.
"Were moving out, get the squad all packed up we will be heading 5 clicks to the north for pickup," Slick explained sliding the comlink onto his utility belt and moving over to the weapons cache to make sure everything was secured.

Virius walked back to the sniper nest at the top of a hill that was overlooking the southeastern edge of their outpost. Lukas poked his head up next to the camo netting and looked at him with a look of inquisition on it.
"Were moving out, pack up the nest and I will tell the rest of the squad," Virius said looking in the general direction of the other observation posts were.
Lukas nodded and shouldered his whisper sniper rifle and began to take down listening gear and the camo netting.
    (Insert various member positions)
Virius walked back toward the weapons cache cave and went inside to check on Slick to see if he needed either help or had any further orders. Slick inside was making sure all the weapons were secured before they left them for the next team that would come along and use the shuttles and weapons that were available.
"So what's our next mission?" Virius asked whilst closing a container filled with anti-armor mines.
"We are going to be doing some selective capturing and some designated killing, of the suspected unloyal kind," Slick said grinning.
"Great, the squad is assembling outside so whenever you're ready we can move out," Virius motioned with his thumb over his shoulder.
Slick nodded and after a short silence, Virius went outside to take care of some last minute cleanups to make the cave almost look as if the rocks were never even moved.
Five minutes later Slick walked out of the cave, he flicked a switch near the entrance and the lights inside dimmed. He looked around at the squad and slid the black helmet over his skull and spoke through the external speakers.
"We have a short hike, about 5 clicks worth, so lets move out," Slick said, setting up a waypoint on everyone's heads up display, "Lukas you and Virius are on point."
"Yes, sergeant," the sniper duo said in unison.
Lukas and Virius ran to the front of the squad-heading north, the squad headed north about two clicks and encountered another convoy off to the east.
"Sergeant, Lukas and I have spotted a convoy, please advise on a course of action," Virius spoke into his comm.
"What's the strength of the opfor?" Slick responded.
Virius brought his macrobinoculars back up to his eyes, "Looks like a small rebel trooper scout convoy."
"Get moving, and bypass them," Slick said into his comm.
"Lukas and I were thinking, that the squad could continue on, and we will disrupt the convoy then catch up," Virius said expressing his views on wanting to disable the enemy.
"Well you know what is best from your position, do what you can then catch up. We will meet you at the pick-up zone," Slick said, snapping off the comm.
"You heard the sergeant, okay so what's your plan of action?" Virius said to Lukas who was lying down with his eyes locked into his scope.
"At the moment they are stopped and it looks like they are fixing one of their speeders, I can disable the other two without a problem but the scouts will almost immediately hide as soon as they figure out what is going on," Lukas said not wavering from his dead fixed lock.
"Okay, I will head down and get on that lower ridge to the east of the convoy, I will open up with my grenade launcher. Start out with the disabling the rear speeder then take out as many as the scouts before they realize what is happening. On my signal," Virius said giving a thumb up to Lukas.
Lukas nodded and sighted downrange waiting for the go ahead. Virius found a path down the overlook and silently crawled up the ridge to the east of the scouts. He loaded a HE-DP round into his grenade launcher and readied himself, analyzing the scouts' position he adjusted for range and windage.
Virius opened the comm. and tapped it three times, instantly the rear speeder powered off and sank to the ground. A half-second later the mechanic working on the broken speeder slumped onto the engine compartment with a spray of blood. Virius pulled the trigger on his M-203 and the grenade popped out and sailed toward its intended target, which was the front speeder. Instantly he had the breech opened and slid in a white phosphorus grenade.
The front speeder exploded, sending shrapnel into two scouts that were standing guard near it, the speeder melted into a pile of slag and started the second speeder on fire. Another scout dropped from Lukas's fire and the scouts rushed to find cover.
Virius sent his next grenade into the brush on the far side of the convoy's route; a few of the scouts were taking cover in a water drain off ditch. The 40mm missile sailed high and impacted on the rear of the ditch sending hot thermite dripping down into the scouts' hiding place.
A scout was instantly vaporized whilst another got up and started screaming, the flames were burning his armor and melting the plasteel to his skin, Lukas put him out of his misery with a shot through the neck.
Seeing that they successful delayed the scout force, Virius opened up the comm., "Cover me, I am heading back up, and be ready to move out to the pick-up zone."
Lukas responded with two clicks, and Virius took off jogging down the ridge and back up the path to where Lukas was waiting for him. Virius ran past and Lukas jumped up to follow. The duo jogged off happily of what they just accomplished, they jogged the three clicks to the pick-up zone and the waiting Wraith squad and an LAAT.
Virius and Lukas jumped into the LAAT and it lifted off with the order from Slick to the pilots. The ship lurched forward toward Old Serat and their next mission.

Shell after shell sent chunks of earth soaring through the air as they exploded upon the grassy surface. All wild life had long cleared this area of the planet after the first explosion of war.

No matter how much blaster fire the Dragoons pounded on the enemy tank, it failed to give out. The vivid red pockets of energy simply bounced off it's armored body or soaked directly into the metal, causing little to no damage. "I

"I have an idea," Zafo's voice rang out on the squad radio channel "But it's going to take some teamwork."

"Giovanni, Garet," Zafo began, observing the slowly lumbering armoured vehicle. "Both of you land your bikes without the enemy noticing. I need you guys to strap some explosives to the tracks and lob a grenade or two into the cockpit. The rest of us will keep their attention focused on us."

"Roger that." The two Dragoons confirmed as they discreetly drifted away from the tank. The flew over the top of a nearby hill and out of view. A couple of seconds later out of the corner of his eye, Zafo saw the two troopers sprinting towards the tank. They were running in typical evasive patterns, hiding behind boulders and trees momentarily whenever possible.

"Keep these guys busy." Zafo reminded the rest of the squad as they took passes, in pairs of two at the tank.

Despite the fact that he was in combat, Zafo felt relatively relaxed. He was beyond comfortable riding the bike and the huge disadvantage the tank faced with it's speed had destroyed and tinge of worry that might have crossed his mind. Every sharp turn and hail of fire was just as satisfying as the last.

"Alrighty 'Goons, watch your fire the G's are nearly alongside the tank." Evani's voice instructed over the comlink.

Zafo let the next stream of fire fly way wide of the tank and his comrades. The grass singed where the bolts struck, leaving an abstract pattern of black dots on the ground.

The two Sergeants worked symmetrically as they ran alongside the lumbering piece of metal. They each quickly fixated a timed exploding device to the outer casing of the tracked wheels. Even the vehicles armour would not be able to protect it from the blast.

"I suggest you guys clear out." Garet commented with anticipation as he and Gio each pulled a grenade from their belt.

"Copy that, all Dragoons, clear the area." Zafo followed.

As he cruised to a safe distance, Zafo saw Giovanni and Garet hurl their grenades into the cockpit of what remained of a half dangerous force. A half dangerous force to a normal squad of highly trained imperials on foot, not for the Dragoons.

A mere couple of seconds later, the cockpit burst into flames. The flames shot high into the air once the timed explosives went off, knocking out the vehicle's only moving capabilities. The corpses of the soldiers that had been surrounding the tank for cover were torn apart and scattered across the battlefield.

"Dragoons one, New Republic zero." Said Giovanni with mild laughter.

"There are still plenty of them out there that need...disposing of. If the area isn't cleared by nightfall, the surprise artillery attack will surely fail."

Garet and Giovanni cleared the explosion and made their way to meet up with their group and Evani's group. Giovanni jumped off his bike and stumbled on the ground.

"These damn bikes take getting used to..." Giovanni said, kneeling over and catching his breath. "Were those last 15 minutes hell or what?"

Garet walked towards the group slowly beside him, visibly affected by the intensity of the firefight.

"Good job guys, but im afraid we have to get moving quick. No doubt any surrounding forces can see the tower of smoke coming from that tank. Not to mention the unholy amount of shots that tank fired at us. Take a short breather while i try and track the next group." Zafo said.

Giovanni walked back to his bike and sat down on it to rest his legs. The cool wind whipped the grass and smoke in quaint patterns in the air. Yet another battle won.

The sargeant removed his helmet and wiped the sweat from his brow. He combed his hair over and put on his helmet once again just in time to hear zafo on the com channel.

"Heads up 'Goons, we have an approaching force in close proximity of our location. I can't tell how big, its like they're clustered like the last group. I suggest we scramble and try to coordinate an attack."

Giovanni nodded to himself and piloted his bike to where the other Dragoons were.

"Same groups as last time," Zafo continued. "Evani, take your group back over the hill and try to run some surveillance from the higher point. Report to me on the number of troops when you get a visual. The rest of you, come with me. We'll park our bikes over the far ridge and wait on Evani's report. Double-time it Dragoons, we can't be seen in the open like this. Let's move out."

With that the two groups split apart and took off in separate directions. Evani's group to survey the scene, and Zafo's group, eager to jump in on the action.

Zafo turned the engine off on his bike as he pulled over the ridge and out of view from the battlefield below. The blaring sun was already two thirds of the way across the Devaronian sky, reminding Zafo of the time constraints the squad faced.

"This is quite the intense campaign..." Jenny commented, breaking the pensive silence.

"Yup," Zafo began, drifting into thought of his Imperial Career. "Not since the Bestine IV campaign have I been on one of such a large scale."

"You were part of the Bestine campaign?" Jenny questioned, a look of mild shock spread over her face.

"I was just starting out, Private First Class&" Zafo replied. For some reason, he enjoyed reminiscing about his past. "One hell of a first mission." Zafo chuckled, turning his gaze to Giovanni.

"You remember Bestine, don't you?"

"How could I forget?" Gio answered, "The day I was assigned and found you all, just relaxing in the bar. Good times."

The conversation was cut short by Evani as she blared over the comlink.

"Zaf, you there?"

"Copy."

"There are fifteen foot soldiers. One open cockpit speeder with a hefty repeater installed on the back. They are also being escorted by four speeder bike mounted New Republic scouts."

"Location?"

"They are just entering another small valley, similar to the one we fought the first group in. From where you are, you need to pass over the ridge, then head straight through the small valley and over two sets of rolling hills. You should meet them head on."

"You guys catch that?" Zafo inquired, looking at his squad mates who were already re-boarding their bikes.

"I'll take that as a yes." Zafo said with a chuckle as he too boarded his Z-74.

Eager to once again fly into battle, the three Dragoons didn't even bother to wait for Zafo as they soared over the first hill. The wind whipped against his body as Zafo accelerated with great speed to catch up with his comrades. As he dipped over the second hill, the group of enemies came into sight. From atop one of the surrounding high points, Evani's group darted down into the valley below.

The battle was on.

The Dragoons did not have the element of surprise on their side. Their prior battle had sent a heads-up to every group in the area, and those that came to aid were definitely prepared. They probably didn't expect to see an entire group obliterated however, and that must have had them on edge.

Then again, Giovanni had relied mostly on his speed over his enemies to power him through the battle. This time, things would not be so easy.

Attached with the group were four enemy troops on bikes, plus another few on an open top speeder with a modified e-web attached to the back. So most likely, the Dragoons would no longer be the prey. All of this was making Giovanni nervous. His limited skill on the bike would become known in comparison with the skill of the probably highly trained new republic troopers.

All he had to worry about now is to stay on the outside and make remote attack runs and hope he wouldn't be pursued, for if any of them decided to run him down, his chances of survival were slim.

He focused back on the battle. The enemy was aware of their movemement from the very start and turned to face them. Pretty soon the heavy repeater was raining hell on the landscape around them. The speeder bikes however just sat watching attentively, while the rest of the ground infantry merely knelt in front of both the speeder and the bikes, ready to fire. Once they came within range, roughly a dozen troops opened fire. Recognizing their small chance against such a concentrated stream of firepower, the group split up, two in each direction. Meanwhile, Evani's group came over the ridge, a sight for sore eyes.

The fire being laid down by the second group further split the ranks.  That was the cue for the bikes to move. The entire four took off to the west of the speeder and went to attack Zafo and Garet. Knowing there was nothing he could do, Giovanni merely concentrated his fire on the troops trying to take potshots at him and the new dragoon, Bryan. Taking out the four of them wasnt a problem, as both Bryan and Giovanni overlapped their fire to annihilate the opposition. Unfortunately this caught the attention of the man operating the E-web, which of course was bad news for them.

At this point Evani and Jennabelle had single-handedly taken out the rest of the ground infantry while the rest of her group went to assist Zafo and Garet, who were surprisingly holding their own with four bikes on their tail.

Giovanni and Bryan were still struggling with the other speeder. The open top design left the pilot and co-pilot open, but they were safely ducked out of the way while the gunner laid down round after round on both Gio, Bryan, Evani, and Jennabelle. Their sustained fire however, began to show its damage on the speeder. When it began to take off is when the dragoons knew they needed to pounce. Taking themselves away from the direct fire left the pilot dangerously susceptible to enemy fire, which is something Giovanni fully intended to take advantage of. He brought the bike up to the speeder past the radius of the heavy repeater and drew his blaster pistol. The co-pilot stumbled for his rifle but was quickly silenced with a single blaster shot. Before the pilot could react to the live thermal detonator in the seat next to him, it was all over. The hunk of metal dove into the ground and flipped several times. It was quite a sight.

"Zafo, how are you holding up?" asked Evani stopping her bike to draw her binoculars and spot the other group.

"Im just fine," he answered. "Gimme a sec, will ya?"

"I spot only one republic bike left... and he's actually running away from Zafo and Garet..." observed Evani, intrigued.

"How the..." Giovanni was interrupted by Zafo, who screamed "Die you bastard!" shortly before eliminating the last biker.

The Dragoons had done it. They had taken out a combined force of thirty-five to fourty soldiers, not to mention a tank, four speeder bikes and one speeder.

"If this doesn't deserve a payraise, i dont know what does..." said Giovanni, half jokingly. The sun was only an hour away from setting.

"I dont know about a payraise, but how about a round of drinks as soon as we get back?" offered Zafo.

"Hahaha, you're on." Giovanni slapped his helmet back on and took off in his bike, followed by the rest of the Dragoons. They passed the ridge overlooking the enemy encampment with just enough daylight left to see the amassed force. They had no idea what was in store for them.

The setting sun casted a warm shadow of the side of Zafo's face. There was something about the powerful glow of a sunset that sparked his thinking. Time ceased to exist. The past, the future, all meshed into one never-ending story; the story of his life.

"Its almost time for the artillery to be moved..." Evani began, looking back towards the war torn city of Montellian Serat which was hidden by rows of waving hills. "Are we sure the area has been cleared out?"

"We can't be one hundred percent sure." Zafo stated. He switched his helmet comm. To a more public channel where he hoped to hear from Jabus Krang, the man whom Zafo had briefly met while the squad passed through Montellian Serat. He was the man in charge of the other Imperial forces that were clearing out the area however, due to the fact that they were mostly on foot, they were mostly situated much closer to the city."

Streams of static and inaudible sounds emitted from the helmet's speaker.

"Jabus, Jabus Krang, do you copy."

"Yeah, can hardly hear you through all this mess, who is this"?

"Senior Sergeant Zafo, Dark Dragoons."

"Ahh right. We are engaging what we believe to be the last of the groups close to the city. How have you guys been doing?"

"Pretty good" Zafo replied as he looked down into the battle torn valet below. Corpses, mechanical debris and craters filled the once green valley. The stain of blood would forever remain upon the ground. This place, along with many others had become tainted by war.

"We've taken out probably close to forty ground troops. One tank, and open landspeeder and four speeder bike mounted troops." It was only as he tallied up the squad's points that he realized how much devastation they had caused. It didn't seem like much as each enemy soldier fell to his death, but when you added the numbers together, one could almost feel bad.

"Excellent, we've taken out quite a lot as well. Our reports and sensors don't indicate any large forces. The mobile artillery are now going to be escorted by my men to their position. Head back to Montellian Serat to await further instructions. If you see any hostiles on your way, well...you know what to do with them. Good Luck and Thank You."

"We're done here." Zafo said, taking one last glance at the death filled valley.

"Let's head back to base."

The army of bikes sparked to life. The wind rush through their silent helmets. The sun casted shadows of themselves in front of them. The path was random, winding and risky, better yet improvised.

"Last one back to the Wall buys the Squad drinks." Joked Zafo as he slammed the accelerator and pulled ahead of the group...

OCC: That Concludes Dark Dragoon mission number two.
