Hashi had his arm around the tiny waist of the cute secretary of the late minister of foreign affairs. And she had her arm around his neck. And her sweet tounge was rolling around in his mouth. "Oooh soldier boy," she murmured into his ear. "I just love a man in uniform."

Hashi grinned and kissed her back playfully, biting on her upper lip. Around him, the Selus soldiers were partying, spreading around the beer freely. Hell, even the captured Rybil were allowed to join in to a certain extent.

It was, seemingly, pretty obvious that the battle was almost over. Quick, but not exactly clean. They still had some clearing up to do, but for now, Hashi was taking a well-earned break. Frog and his team were still rummaging around the intelligence building, Hashi wondered exactly what they were they doing.

Ihsan, his new found buddy, strolled past and slipped a bottle of some cheap local ale into Hashi's free hand. The other hand was busy groping the secretary's firm buttocks.

Hashi grumbled as he heard his commlink beep. He broke the embrace and fumbled around in his pocket for it. "What's going on, Sergeant? I'm about ready to wrap this thing up," came Shadow's voice.

He forgot Shadow was still sitting in his at-pt, outside in the street. "Nothing much, Shadow. Just enjoying the fruits of war," replied Hashi cheekily as he felt his thigh being stroked. "Just join in the fun already, pal."

War may be hell, but the rewards it reaps on the victors are great, Hashi thought dreamily as he found himself being led away to a lavish bedroom, formerly the quaters of the Mayor of Dayust.

"Fury," Dragoon said over the com to the General, "we've secured the president.  It looks like we've cleaned everything up on this part, too.  All primary objectives are complete."

"What's the status on the secondary objectives?" Fury asked.

Dragoon muttered under his breath.  "That jackass Firefrog found out that the damn 'Intelligence Building' was nothing more than a library or the comings and goings of the other two governments on this rock.  Him and the rest of the troops are coming to meet me now.  It looks like we've finished up here."

"And resistance?  I don't want to fly into a war zone," Fury inquired.

"The only resistance you'll find is a Squad Leader who doesn't like you and a squad who agrees with him, alright!" Dragoon yelled.

"What was that, Sergeant?" Fury replied, his voice cold.

"Ummm... uh...." Dragoon stuttered.  "There is a squad of Rybil over here that haven't been suppressed."  He shot a few times with his shotgun in the air.  "There, all taken care of.  I love you."

Dragoon could've sworn he heard chuckling in the background on Fury's side.  Bastards.  Always laughing at him.  What they didn't know that Dragoon had a serious side....

(Dream Sequence)

A young man sat at the strip club, cigarra in his hand and twi'leks on his lap.  The Twi'lek was consoling him for his loss.  It had been hard, doing the bidding of superiors day in and day out, but she understood.  Yes, she understood.

----------------------------------------

(Waking Sequence)

"Dragoon, are you there?" Fury was saying over the com.

"Yes, sorry, my mind was drifting," Dragoon replied.  "You're clear to discuss the terms or whatever you people do."

Always in his mind was her...  The stripper with the heart of gold and the ass of chocolate.

Fury jumped into the Skipray and powered it up.  An allied bomber with some escort fighters were are straining to catch up to his preflight.

"Merrick, are weapons up?"

"Sure, I can kill a bird or something if you want to test them."  She seemed overly eager to kill something today.

"Nah, that would just freak out the locals.  They already don't believe we've secured them a landing zone.  But hey, maybe we'll have to dust an anti-air unit or something.  Its not like anything these primitives have will even dent a blastboat.  I just don't want to dust a plane full of dignitaries up the side of a mountain."

"Yeah, that would be a waste of a perfectly good bomber," Merrick deadpanned.

Geez, just get this over with, Fury thought.  These guys are crazy.

Merrick stood quietly and watched as everyone celebrated the signing of the Planetary government treaty. The leaders and other VIPs of the different factions that had agreed to the treaty were all in attendance, and with enough alcohol had even stopped bickering long enough to enjoy themselves. Merrick glanced over at Fury, who nodded very slightly and went back to his conversation with the politicians and generals he was standing with. She grinned and slipped out of her dark corner and down the hall, picking up her axe from the spot she'd left it, and drawing her vibroblade as she went. She ducked into another room and stood in the shadows of another handy corner, her shadowsuit helping her to almost completely disappear.

After many hours in the vip men's room, one of Merrick's targets finally entered. He was well drunk and singing to himself as he went to the urinal. He'd just finished zipping himself up when he turned to see Merrick facing him and grinning a nasty and happy grin. He didn't have any time to yell out before she had slit his throat and he lay on the ground bleeding to death. Merrick wiped her axe on his formalwear and stashed him in the stall marked "Out of Order". After ensuring he had nothing of value or interest in his pockets, she then returned quietly to her corner for another wait.

------

Merrick toyed with her last vic.. target a while before relieving him of his sorry life. This one she left out of the stall in the doorway, but thoroughly searched his pockets as well. When she was done, she took out her commlink. "Fury, Merrick here." Fury excused himself from the group he was talking to. "Go ahead sergeant." He spoke quietly. "Sir, just wanted to tell you that I have finished all the reports you requested and I will be needing that extra assistance you offered me for the errands." Fury smiled. "Good job, I will send you a trooper directly." He returned the link to his pocket and went back to his conversation. Merrick cleaned off her axe and knife and left quietly through a back exit, greeting the troopers who were dragging a struggling man into the building, and returning to the quarters she'd been given for the night.

------

"Merrick, get down to the reception, we'e got a problem!" Merrick grinned to herself. "Yessir Fury, on my way now." She left all but her knife and one blaster pistol in her room and headed back to the reception, which was still going despite it being early morning already. She arrived to armed guards at the entrance and Fury looking stern, but reassuring some of the guests. When he saw Merrick he updated her on what had happened. "The leaders of most of the factions here tonight have been assassinated. We've found the culprit, and I want you to ensure he doesn't go missing before I decide what to do with him in the morning. Also, organise somewhere for me to consult with the generals tomorrow." Merrick nodded and ordered the guards holding the assassin to follow her. They deposited him in a room down the hall from hers and stood guard outside the door while Merrick interrogated him. She and Fury both knew he was innocent, but they'd made sure that there could be no doubt he was guilty. The interrogation was just to ensure no one was suspicious. After all, everyone knew Imperials loved to interrogate people, even if they already knew everything they wanted to.

Fury still stood around in his disheveled former formal wear.  It was way to early too still be awake.  At least this planet had a fairly effective coffeine substitute. Offhandly, he thought it might be good enough to market.

Last night, the leaders of each major nation had stood together and signed a treaty proposing the creation of the single government rule of the planet Zelus (To the victors go the spoils and all that.  For at least the Manda, it was better than just Selus.)  The news had gone out, celebrations - and protests - had started around the globe.  The leadership council came together here in the main convention center in Dayust (only slightly damaged) and the Vast Empire had a willing ally in this sector.

Then the murders began.  All of leadership were gone.  Only a few generals were left standing to run the individual sections of the new Zelus planetary government.

They had only one place to turn for help...and that was the Empire.

All that remained were the details.  The planet was their's.

Shadow looked up at the stars and sighed. He was laying on top of the roof of one of the buildings that hadn't taken any collateral damage during the fighting. The rest of Jester Squad was off partying, and it was time for the battle-hardened soldier to have some alone time.
He searched the sky for his home constellation, but without luck. The galaxy was a big place, and you couldn't always find home. If there was such a thing...
Shadow had not been home in years. Nor did he have a desire to. His life had long since ceased to be about a family. Even if there was one still out there. He wasn't sure. A long time ago - in another life - he had been... his mind drifted. Thoughts of the past welled up his mind, summoning up images he had nearly forgotten.
He had been happy, once. But that was a long time ago. A long time. He wondered if the child had ever been born. If he was a father or not. He would most likely never know. He had left that world behind him, bringing nothing except his trusty canine friend. He had not even brought his name.

"I have no name, now," he spoke into the darkness.

Minutes passed. He could hear the sounds of celebrating in the streets below. Another planet, another victory for the Vast Empire. He had seen it all before. It didn't excite him the first time, and there was nothing joyous to be found in it now.
He wondered if anything would ever make him want to celebrate again. He wondered... that maybe if he were happy again... would things be different?
Letting out another sigh, he rolled over and pushed himself up until he was standing. Taking one last look at the stars, he saluted.
The crossed sheaths on his back felt heavier tonight than usual. He had considered leaving the swords behind on this trip, but then again... they had saved his life before, and no mission was ever certain. Sometimes a good blaster by your side just isn't enough.
He headed down to the floors below, laughing as he went. He waved goodnight to the darkness as the door swung shut behind him.

"You didn't find me this time, either, Death. How long will you keep me waiting?"

Merrick left the room where the assassin was being held, ordering the guards outside the door not to let anyone else in, and went in search of Fury. She had a pretty good idea where he would still be, so headed straight for the convention centre. Fury was still awake, overseeing the cleenup and ensuring the personal security of what was left of the VIPs. The few that had managed sleep that night were starting to wake up, and beginning to regret drinking so much. "Sir, it's time to hold a council on what to do with the assassin. I've set it up so his execution will be public." Fury nodded. "Collect the generals and escort them along, I will follow shortly." Merrick saluted and left to get everyone organised.

------

Fury spoke loudly so that everyone in attendance could hear. "Last night, the leaders of those factions which signed the treaty were assassinated. My troops have arrested and interrogated the man accused of committing these murders and have found that he is guilty without any doubt." The crowd was shouting and cheering, and lots of small fights were starting to break out, as the assembly was made up of people from all factions. Fury held up his hand and everyone settled down a bit. "It is the judgement of myself and those left in command of these factions that the assassin should be executed for everyone to see!" The whole crowd cheered this time as Merrick brought the man forward. He was struggling and protesting his innocence, but the crowd couldn't hear him over themselves. Fury spoke once more, this time to the prisoner. "You have been found guilty of the assassination of the leaders of this planet. You will now be executed for your crimes." Before he could be heard, as the crowd had become silent again, Merrick slit his throat and let him fall to the floor. The crowd cheered as he bled to death before their eyes.

------

Merrick sat quietly behind Fury as he spoke to the Generals in private council. They all seemed much more relaxed after the execution of the assassin. As Fury spoke, it became clear to Merrick that he was merely bribing the generals into giving the Vast Empire control over the planet, but the Generals all appeared to not notice this. Apparently they were all too happy with themselves for surviving the night and becoming the new leaders of their factions.

Hashi sat on the edge of his bed in his spacious hotel room, slowly contemplating the events that basically led to the Vast Empire taking effective control over Zerek 456. The surviving generals who would be the planet's new faction leaders would only be running a puppet government, its strings being pulled by the Empire.

The planet would slowly be sapped of its natural and human resources, joining the countless number of worlds helping to feed the Imperial war machine. Prefabricated stormtrooper garrisons would be set up. The locals will soon experience the 'pleasures' of living under Imperial law and order.

Hashi got to his feet and strolled over to the balcony, from there he had a bird's eye view of the Selus capital, Alordor. It was relatively untouched by the war and had a sleepy and serene look about it. Nice place to have a holiday, really. The hotel was built right by the large lake to the east of the city. Hashi let out his breath calmly and took in the picture perfect scenery, white swans flying over the blue water.

A week had past since the public execution of the so-called traitor. The hype had died down considerably since then. Hashi had been in the crowd, a silent spectator, as Merrick strode up and killed the innocent man with a single stroke of her axe. He had been in the know of who the actual asssasin was, and it struck him as ironic to see the innocent man being killed by the true perpetrator of the murders.

There was a sharp rapping on the door that snapped Hashi out of his deep thoughts. A moment later, Firefrog's head poked through the doorway, "Shuttle's waiting dude." Brightening, Hashi replied, "Oh yeah. Finally."

Smiling from ear to ear, Hashi quickly grabbed his belongings and hastily packed them into his backpack. He trotted after Firefrog and the two of them headed off for the spaceport, where a ship would be taking them and the rest of Jester back to home swveet home on Tadath.

Shadow zipped his duffle bag shut and tossed it to the droid standing in the doorway.

"Thank you, sir," the droid said as it left.

"Yeah."

It was time to get off Zerek 456 - a rather boring place in the soldier's mind. The battle had kept him occupied for a while, but things had slowed down way too fast ever since the mission was completed.
He made one last check of the room and then headed for the door. As he walked out, he nearly walked right into Dragoon.

"Shadow."

"Dragoon."

The squad leader nodded. "How are you doing?"

"Tired. Sir."

"You're on your way to the shuttle?"

"Yes."

"Good. We're going to head back to Tadath as soon as possible." There was silence for a moment as the two men regarded one another. They did not know each other very well, aside from reputation. "Nice work out there, Sergeant."

"Thank you. Sir. I did what I could."

Dragoon grinned. "You're ready to get back out into the thick of things, huh?"

"You could say that."

"I like that in a man." Dragoon clapped him on the back as he walked off. Calling back over his shoulder he said, "See you on the shuttle."

"Yes, sir." Shadow gave an unseen salute and headed toward the landing pad. He had respect for his squad leader, if not necessarily admiration. He pondered. Maybe in time they would become friends. Probably not. No one ever lives long enough to become friends with this soldier. He smiled.
