it appears that whenever I goto a site that downloads a "interactive" java thing (ie java chat) it says i have to download something called a Java Virtual Machine. i've already downloaded it but the thing keeps coming up, and i can't get the applet. It takes me to a microsoft upgrade site and it basically goes in circles. any ideas on this? thanx for looking.

Three things:

1. What sites are you looking at?

2. What browser are you using?

3. Do us a favor and uninstall any prior versions of the JVM before installing a new one.  Also, get the Sun JVM as that may be a source of your problem as well.

There is a bit of a legal issue between Sun and Microsoft so you cannot obtain JVM from Microsoft at this time.

If you require JVM go to the Sun site.

...right.

btw the sites where it has been popping up is, for say, when i try to open up javachat here or someplace else that uses it. that and a few other sites that dont even have javachat but i wont name them for identity reasons.

I'm pretty sure i've got internet explorer 6 too.

As for finding the virtual finding machine to install/uninstall, i dont know where to look for it on my computer =/

what is the Sun site too?
