as you hopefully know did i announced 11 Days ago a VE Wide Jedi Outcast Competition.
9 Members Signed up, one of them posted he cant make it.
Fallen Angel, thanks for telling me that you wont made it, for that you receive 20.000 Credits.

Friday the 26.09 was the Date the Competition would have taken place but noone appeard.
Not a Single one of the Members who signed up appeard!
one and a half hours later appeard Arturus and asked after it, he at least showed, even that he was late that he cared about it.
for that i give him 15.000 credits.
The Rest of you and YOU know who, i cant explain how disapointed i am from you. Till now, noone explaind the reasons why he couldnt make it
i would understand if something happend, this is no problem, but 2 days later and nothing. This makes me sad to see, but at least i know now
what i can expect from you, not much. You disappointed me, thank you much for this experience, i will remember it.

I would just like to say that when I did say I would play, I also said I might not make it and that if I don't don't worry.

Oh and please don't take this the wrong way, just thought I should mention it

Me, I DID have work those nights. However, I should have let you know I couldn't make it. I am sorry, it completely slipped my mind about the competition. (Whenever I work, I tend to forget about everything else.) PM, I'm sorry, next time I'll let ya know in advance. Of course, none of our words justifies what happens: I just feel that I should give you an explanation. I think we each owe you that much!

I have to say this on both PM's behalf and mine.  I was around that night and it was really damn disheartening to not see anyone show.  Actually, one person DID show but was an hour late.  And hell, if there was a lot of gaming going on, that might not have even been noticed.

Anyway, here's the point.  Rizzit and Japer put together a platoon-wide competition that has been sporadically participated in at best.  Peacemaker has shelled out his own cash for a gaming server and has gotten very little use of it by VE members.  I've got a half-hearted amount of info for the ATC and have helped through together a couple story missions and it just seems like that effort has gone to waste.

So, we keep asking and no one seems to want to respond: WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT?

If there is something you would REALLY want, let us know.  Also, factor in the time element.  We want to be able to offer things at timeframes you can participate in.  If we need some kind of Tuesday afternoon gaming session, just say the word.  We can find SOMEONE to manage it.  If you really want to RP, we can find a GM for it.  Storywriting has no time frame but maybe you want a particular type of story.

Seriously, participation is at an all-time low; at least from the three years plus I've been a member.  Let's do something about addressing the problem instead of just worrying and whining about it.

Fury i fully agree with you, and you too PM. i was actually looking forward to the JO tourney, just b/c its been soo damn hard to play anyone in anything since every has such "better" things to do. you made a commitment by signing up, you agreed to dedicated just a little time to the VE. some people i know have perfectly valid excuses. Raz cant get on coz his laptop isnt compatible with his uni's network. the whole balancing college/hs/sports/hw excuse is getting very very old. it's not like the VE takes hours everyday. maybe 1/2 hr- 1hr on mirc a day. HELL you can run mirc in the background WHILE DOING YOUR HOMEWORK!!! i can count on 1 hand the number of times i've seen more thatn 20 people on mirc at one time. posting on a story takes MAYBE 20 mins. games take about the same. so if people cant make room for prolly and hr to hr half everyday, or every other day to honor a commitment they made, then that says something about your character. im sure fury, kad, pm, cos, 3, and tal have a whole BUNCH of things they could be doing, but they at least have the fortitude to stick with something they signed up for. ive been in the vE off and on for the last 3 years. i went AWOL for 6 mos partly b/c i thought i couldnt handle school sports hw social life and the ve. i was wrong, quitting last year made me realize how much fun this club can be. where else int he world can you become a jedi, where else can you live out dreams, write out things you would never be able to do in real life. The Ve is more than a club, and it deserves better than this.

As to what i want..im already getting it. But what i need is to not have to go days between posts b/c noone replies to it, or, wehn they  do, they dont advance the story AT ALL, cept the wraiths, raz and dai did a very good job, better than me actually. i may have made more posts, but most of them were crap, and did nothign but drag out the story. so for that i *salute* both of them. good work boiz, raz we gonna miss ya till u get back.

You know, part of the problem might be that this whole system of merely chilling on IRC and occasionally posting on MB counting as activity as gotten everyone engrained in a system that isnt ideal.

Army people, there are two good SW games out there being palyed right now, JKO and JA

instead of merely accepting IRC as good enough activity, start focusing on gaming

get on the zone, have servers everynight, recruit, offer training, get squads to organise a JKO night weekly

internal Weeks of War, JKO competitions, JA competitions

just say it is no longer acceptable to merely use iRC and the MB and consider that activity

unless someone actually takes a stand and becomes harsh, nothing is going to change and that would be a shame

the navy has its own issues and lack of games, but the army has no excuse

i know many dont game during the weekdays but for godsake get some in on the weekends, maybe an hour or two

but unless we get gaming oriented nothing will change!

Not that I'm saying you are wrong, but there HAVE been training and gaming nights, we DO have a server to play on, there ARE competitions.

This info is posted on the main page, on Comnet, on the IRC channel and still they have been sparsely attended - if at all.

No one is "settling" for IRC attendance as full activity.  Trust me, you do not get promoted for getting on IRC and talking about what movie you just saw.

Gaming, admittedly, has to increase.  No one is disputing that.  But I know many who just want to write.  The few that do have little recourse but to wait for their lazier squad mates to catch up to them.  That too is a problem.

Plus, I keep hearing a lot about RPing but see little tangible proof that a lot of people want in on it.

You can keep pointing fingers at us higher-ups (hell, that's what we are here for), but that is not the be-all, end-all of the problem.  Someone has to show up to make these comps and gaming sessions succeed.

Frankly, a lot of us have been throwing effort into things for months that have gone nowhere.  That gets seriously old after awhile.

Hey FA I posted to you know. Is there anyway that you guys can think of to make my squad post on the stories besides me? It is kinda hard to write a whole squad in the mix from one point of view. My proboblem with gaming is that I can't tell when I have to be on. My family only has one computer that can play games online, and my dad is on from when he gets home to bed. I am lucky if I get a few minutes to get on and play games online. resently I have been able to post because I get done with school nad have somtime to write. I can only write at night not play. I am not trying to make excuses I am just explainingmy situation. I am sorry for not attending the gamin session.

kairo i know you posted bro, sry i left you out. but im talking like, advancingthe plot, not just talking about killing rebels, theres a big difference. im talking really about my squad, b/c snipes and i are the only ones that really posted..JR posted lyke once, but i mean raiders has 9 troopers...a full squad, and 2 out of 9 posted... and WE ARE RIPPING THE OTHER SQAUDS APART. kairo i know ih is worse, and who knows where the hell the dd are...but i mean, this is rediculous.

I have to say about this besides an apology. Now, I know how both PM and Fury feel, and I assure you they aren't mad at you. I keep getting messages asking why there are so mad. Read my speech, and tell me if u can't figure out why! About 2-3 years ago we were booming with activity. The troopers earned their competitions, and when they were presented: they were participated in faithfully. It was TRULY a competition. Everyone was out for the top place, cause it meant something to the troopers. This bunch of you here now: you guys go and make a post hoping that it takes care of you for a two and a half month competition, that would have lasted us one month back then (and brought in better results).

Another note, I can count on my fingers how many people are in IRC on most nights. On a good night, I go a little over ten: but not much, and not often. Meetings now 20 members is considered to be an absolute high, but let me tell you: back then it was considered low. People cared enough about the club, that they wanted to come to the meeting and hear what is going on. Another thing was that every week some kind of award/promotion/praise was given to SOMEONE at the meeting. Nowadays, I think we are lucky to see a promotion every month.

You're probably sick of my doing the 3 year comparision. I should and could say too bad, but I actually will go back to April 1, 2002. On this day, the high council pretended to close down the VE because of some "lawsuit" by LEC©. They also said, they would leave IRC open to get together and get e-mails collected so that we could all keep in contact. To make a long story short: everyone flocked into #Vast_Empire that night. Those who were active normally figured out what was going on, but those who normally aren't: flocked in....held meetings in private offices trying to form a new VE. This was nothing but an April Fool's joke, but there were almost 50 of our members online that night. Not all at once, but they stayed about 35 on at a time. I know you guys can't picture that with the way things are, but it is true.

On the gaming aspect, I can't complain too much. My firewall in my hub prevents me from gaming, but I can bypass it when my sister does not use her internet. However, when I can I do. When I got recruited by Cosmic in July of 2000, it was on the zone. We had weekly gaming nights of Jedi Knight much like we have done for JORPG. However, we did not NEED to borrow members from the FES or the zone to get a decent amount of numbers. We had plenty of our own. Ask Cosmic, Anakin, Japer, Riel, Trigit, and anyone else who was around then we had fun. Now, if I want to play a BIG game with any of you, I can't wait around in IRC hoping you guys will pop on: cause even if u do it's not gonna happen. "Oh no, can't play! We're too lazy to do that! If we did that, it would ruin our repuatation as a lazy bumb." That is what I would hear from ya.

After being in the VE for my first 6 months, I wanted sooo badly to become a Squad Leader. Not like you: just to advance in rank or get recognized. It was that I had so many ideas on how to bring the club to the next terra platform in its history, that I just wanted to be SL. Let me ask you honestly: how many of you REALLY have something to contribute and aren't hanging on by a thread? Simpler put: are you really contributing because you want to, or are you simply doing it so you don't get AWOLed in shame?

Another thing that needs to change is reports. You guys need to take responsibility and send in a report to your immediate superior. Ex: Trooper---->SL/ASL/FTC-------->PA/PC---------->Prefect/Executive Officer. When I became SL, I remember viewing the Platoon reports on the commander's comnet. There was a report about every squad there. Furthermore, it was almost as long as my speech is here. I had to write a few myself, and I gotta say: I have maybe one squad report submitted a week (besides' raiders) if I am lucky. A report takes 20 mins, maybe 40 for the squad leaders, but definately should not be something you have an excuse for not sending it. We are getting very lenient on how to send them in: because we know you guys are so lazy that we want to at least see some sort of activity from ya. You can post it on the comnet under your squad topic, e-mail it to your SL, hell, I even hear some SLs take it in a PM.

I hear some of you complaining using the same old excuse: "We're not active as a whole because we don't have the members." Yes, this is true. I'll give ya that. But do u wonder why we are short on members? It's simply because things have degreessed (progressing backwards) so much, that our active members are going into retirement because you new members can't be bothered caring about the VE! I would love to post some of the retirement letters here, but It would just be taking up extra space that is not important. Another reason is there is not the will to go out and recruit. Currently we have a recruiting competition. DO you know how many members I have rewarded? 2 new recruits, and 1 current member. I am actually giving a special bonus to darkhawk just for doing that. You all have no motivation to recruit. I know some are dedicated to recruiting; not only recruiting though, the VE in general: and I am sorry you have to be reading this. You are a big help to the VE, and I commend you for it; but as a whole, I feel the VE is failing. I have worked my butt off for the VE, and I know we all have lives, but for GOD's sake: would it kill ya to help us out. I have been the leader of the push for an Elite Squad Competition for the army. Up until a little while ago, I have been pushing for a competition for you army people. A few months ago, I realized it was HOPELESS and withdrew my push. I felt none of you (except for a few of you) were worthy of it.(DD, Raiders, and misc. members basically at the time) Then in July Japer and I decided to give you a test to see if you were worthy. We made a platoon competition similar to what an ESC would be like. Let me tell you my friends, you failed miserably. It was pulling teeth getting all the SLs to make ONE POST within a week! Then for a while we had a steady flow of posts, then after the first week: you began to drift further and further until at last you have absolutely nothing to show for your activity except for you terriffic wraiths and raiders. You know who you are! Not all of you in those squads are included!

Now, after hearing all this: can you understand why the High Council is so upset? We are not purely mad at you all: we are depressed. The VE used to be in such high glory....which is now just a memory. I would give and do anything in my power to see the VE restored to its' former glory. Yes, we may be yelling at you; but when it all comes down it: ask yourself: "Do I really deserve to be getting yelled at?" For most of you, I am afraid the answer is yes. I do need to make a refernce to something Fury said yesterday. He mentioned that back in the day, we went with an idea and winged it. Nowadays, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU need EVERYTHING explained to you down to the last detail. Frankly, I am inclined to agree with him. We should not need to explain to members with months experience time how to get to their squad's e-mail addresses, or how to use the bank. I leave you now, with all those thoughs as well as this last one: I should NOT be able to write a speech this long complaining on how things are. If I have to complain maybe 1/10 of the speech, yes: but not a whole 8 paragraphs! It is inexcuseable. Some of you may joke that I just like to write, and this is no joking matter. It is something very serious! The strength of activity has fallen, all our hope relies on some miracle batch of new recruits that we hope to get in sometime in the future. I don't know about Fury, PM, Tal, 3, Japer, or the rest of them: but I do not have much (if there is any at all) hope in you current members except for a distinct few. You should know who you are. Those who are not sure, may ask: but you may not like the answer you get. Other than the HC I think I have a list of about 7-15 people that are not in trouble, and I assure you: it is not 15! That is all I have to say, and Fury: in response to your question: what do I want? I don't know what I want anymore. Anytime I get an idea of what that would be, my hope in it fades. It seems all we really want to do is sit and play pool and bowling on candystand and yahoo.

After, I joined on July 2, 2000 while you joined in April 2002. The reason my join date is different is cause of that whole name-change thing I did in April of 2001.

If the members get active again, we can have more fun times.

Hell, if we really get on the ball, we might even get to have another ESC.

Well I will offer my connection to you guys if I am home. However, as I understand it: PM has some dedicated servers you can connect to if you ask him. However, we all owe him quite a bit of ammend-making I think.
