Okay. Brief comment.

Serpent had briefly mentioned that he thought it might be good for the individual Fleets to get logos, much like individual squadron logos... I've been working on a few and this is my first attempt.

I'll post up more and would appreciate feedback from anyone... Also, everyone, if you have any ideas or want to attempt anything, feel free to.

Now for my first attempt:



Pretty simple. It's a shield with Abrae projected on it, with an ISD guarding Abrae. I chose Abrae due to the fact that we're based there. Now that I'm thinking about it, this may be more suitable for the first Fleet, as it's the defensive Fleet.

Woah!  Very impressive!  Nice one Fishhead!

I would agree with it being a good one for the First Fleet, but you are definitely on track if you use the same theme for the Second Fleet.

One suggestion I would make would be for some sort of boarder on the shield.  Maybe something gold?

And Serpent, I do like the border... I may play with it a bit more in the coming days.



Two questions now.

1) The text. I'm not too sure I like it where it's currently located, but now sure where to move it to.

2) With the ISD, does it look better placed as it was in the first or second draft?

I loved the first one Fishhead, but I like this even more!  I for one am quite happy about where the words are and the angle of the Star Destroyer.  Aside from the planet colour, maybe reduce the boarder a little in width?  But unless anyone else has any input I'd say you are about done!  Thank you so much!

Okay guys. I love the feedback. I'm currently working on a few different models currently, integrating every idea presented... I'll have variations for both the First and Second Fleets soon. I do presume these are the only Fleets I'll be making icons/logos for?

They should be up in the next few days. Then I think they should be put up for voting. If only we had the ability to put up polls on this forum...

Yep, Drac. I had just been considering that and have made individual borders for each Fleet. Nice to see similar thoughts.

Okay. Here's Round 1.  For the First Fleet.

Little bit of background here. I went with a gold border and text, as more of a "royal," defensive feel. Flagship of the First Fleet is obvious the Atrus, so ship depicted is a SSD.

So, without further ado, here's the first set of images:

The first two images utilize basic English text.

The last two images are the same uses of the SSD images. These differ in the text. I decided to try Norse's suggestion, and quite like it.

So, perhaps if everyone can take a look at these and weigh in, we can decide on a logo for the First Fleet?

Like both the 3rd and 4th, but instead of as like deepsix said moving the SSD down to cover the dead spot below, would it be possible to put in a few interceptors or one of the escort class ships? after all the fleet is not run with SSD's alone.

Okay. I'll focus with the third image for now.  I can definitely lower that SSD down and work on the background. When I first put that in, the image was still about 1500 pixels across, so can definitely work on fixing that now.

But Deep did give me an idea. I do like his thought process with the angled ship giving a more defensive feel, so I believe with the Second and possibly Third Fleets, I'll work with a more outward design, as they are our more offensive fleets.

Been staying off this topic because I know most people don't care to hear the blunt designer comments but I have to at least say this.

These would be much better vectored rather than Photoshopped, aka illustrated. I think the fact that the ships were filmed a while time ago gives off a vintage look that, instead of looking forward moving, looks like we're stuck in the past. Also the tiled background used earlier was very 90's website. Probably a good thing that's changed. Also, red text on a pink background is not very readable. Granted the average person can't really read Aurebesh anyway but if it's going to be in the design, it has to be able to be seen. Also the logo covering the tip of the ship just seems odd. It just doesn't feel cohesive with it covering part of the central image.

Also I should mention, I might be busy (cause I know people don't ask me to do these things because I'm "so busy") but when it comes to design, I will always set aside time. I have Photoshop and Illustrator CS6. I am happy to use it. Just let me know if there's something you want to do but you don't have the means to do it. I may only be a student, but I love getting in the practice.

And sorry for being a bit ranty. 90's website-esque stuff makes me twitch because of my professors. XD Give me a couple days to get some basic outlines of the ships in Illustrator saved, and I can make vector versions of these. If nothing else, if you continue with the photo edit ones, I can make vector versions of them.
