Well, I'm no expert on classical music, but here in Japan there is little more classic than the orchestral music used in Studio Ghibli movies.  So here is the best one, the masterpeice music from Nausicaa summed up in ten gorgeous minutes.  Enjoy!

My all time favorite songs come from Bizet's Carmen, including "Habanera" and "Votre Toast (Toreador)."


HOWEVER! I have recently discovered one of Bizet's lesser-known operas and have placed this pretty little aria as a new favorite:

As a band kid I can't ignore this thread. Therefore I shall post some music I have played in high school.

If the name Gustav Holst sounds familiar to you, it should because he wrote the planet suite. However, may I introduce you to his Suite in E Flat. I played this my junior year of high school and then again for my graduation.

Nice, Avalar.  I don't listen to much Holst, but I like that Second Suite in F.

Cerv, I'm enchanted to find someone I can talk opera with.    My taste tends towards the Germans, but it's hard to go wrong with Bizet.

Serpent, a bit of that melody in the clip you posted sounds like the song Somewhere, from West Side Story.  Can you hear it?  Around 2:44 - 2:56.  "Hold my hand and we're halfway there.  Hold my hand, and I'll take you there."  That isn't what they're singing, obviously, but the melodic line is the same. 

And Hades, if I've triangulated your tastes well, you might enjoy Beethoven.  Like this bit of String Quartet No. 14 in C Sharp Minor (I think it's the sixth movement), from Band of Brothers:

Suddenly, a wild Army Officer appears! The 1812 Overture is one of my favourites; the addition of cannon fire-like sounds is unbelievably fitting.

And Trykon, I do like myself some Beethoven - that piece you linked me to is no exception! Exceptional music used in an exceptional series.

My next addition is from a French Composer, Jean Claude Petit, featured as the sound track to the 1986 movie Jean de Florette. It's a relatively obscure piece in that few know of it; but I like it all the same!

A remarkably haunting piece from Game of Thrones, when taken in context.

Going to the symphony tonight and even though I'm going to hear some Prokofiev, I remembered this piece and this movement by Malcolm Arnold.

Here is a piece called "Let's Go" from the Red Army Choir, which has some other powerful, fantastic sounding pieces.

If I recall correctly, in a CD story or something Echelon had the idea of composing music and creating an orchestra and choir for the VE (or fleet, or task force, or whatever). Maybe us classic music fans can follow through with that idea.
