Appearance and personality: Niklas enjoys being fairly average in his height, with a bit of muscle on his bones due to his days as a mechanic. The one thing on his feature that he doesn’t enjoy is the scar running down his right eye, as people often ask how he got said scar, a story he hates to tell. Other than that, he is a pretty calm person, pleasuring in a smoke now and then. He is a drinker though, and will not abide by any sort of challenge involving consumption of alcoholic beverages, due to him having a tolerance to beer. Irreverence does not exist for him, and will be first to chastise anyone who disrespects authority. He himself will respond to orders with a “Ja” or “Jawohl” filled with conviction. This does not mean that he is absent of opinion, however. If he thinks an officer is doing something wrong, he will try to convince the officer otherwise. This can often result in his biggest pet peeve: incompetence. He likes things to go well and by the book, though he is not aside using unconventional tactics to gain the advantage.

Biography: Born on Kuat, the young Niklas made headway into signing up for the Vast Empire Navy when he took up a job at a mechanic’s’ shop fixing up old speeders at 13. Pretty soon, he began to love the job, enjoying the feeling of grease between his fingers. His parents, both employed in their own private business, encouraged him to follow whatever path he decided to take for a career. For his 16th birthday, Papa Kreug bought his son a full engineering kit, with every wrench, screwdriver, and plier imaginable. Nik was elated, and in two years’ time became a skilled mechanic. One day, he was called by a merchant to fix up his spaceship. It was the first one he had seen up close and personal, and she was beautiful to him. He didn’t know anything about repairing spaceships, but he took the job anyways. In a week, he had gotten to know the ship in and out, and had managed to learn by himself without any form of schooling how to fix that old spaceship. The merchant was impressed, and offered him to come along to help with any more repairs on the ship, and to fix up other ships that they might come across. The teen agreed. Later that day, he kissed his mom and dad goodbye, and set off into space.

It was a new adventure for him, one that he never forgot. The merchant, Gorld, took a liking to the boy and taught him how to pilot the ship. He soon was able to pilot the ship well enough that he would take off from one planet’s space port, fly it to another, and land it with considerable ease by age 21. Gorld also taught the boy how to fight, and that the best way to avoid any kind of danger would be to follow orders, but to speak up when they are wrong. These would come in handy as the two made a fateful landing on Bespin. Dropping off some supplies, the two were attacked by thugs who wanted to take the ship and supplies, and sell them themselves. It was during the tense fistfight that ensued that a knife was used to slash at Niklas’ right eye, creating his now prominent scar. This made Friedmann recoil in pain, and opened up Gorld for a stab in his neck. The thugs were driven away by arriving law enforcement, but by that time, Gorld was dead, the man that Niklas considered a second father. Upon questioning the young man, he responded to all with short and decisive “Ja”s and “Jawohl”s, and the few “No”s that were required. Once done, they took the body away, leaving him with the now dead merchant’s ship. Using what he knew, he took the ship and piloted it around the galaxy for a few more years before coming upon a recruitment sign for the Vast Empire Navy just after his 28th birthday. Seeing a chance to leave the haunting memories of the ship behind and to get a new job, he signed up. Sure it would be different, being under military officers and in the line of fire of pirates and Republic ships, but he would be able to handle the task. He sold the ship, sending the money off to his parents with a note about where he would be for the next few years: keeping peace in the galaxy.

I'll add my apologies to the mix, Sturmwind - in the changeover, your placement got fumbled a bit.  But I'll also add my congratulations - you've definitely earned active duty, and I can't wait to see what you bring to Strill.
