"What planet are we going to?"

"Pannett, right on the edge of VE turf," the pilot, Kenton, said, concentrating on the readings in front of him as he prepared the shuttle for FTL flight. "Don't know anything else about it, but then I don't know a quarter of the planets in our space."

"Damn," Coadster replied. "I was really hoping for some leave."

"Heh, you'll get it," Joane, the co-pilot, chimed in. "Right after the NR gives up and stops setting fires in every Imperial bathroom they sneak a lighter into."

Cody gave a small laugh and watched the pilots work. Buttons were pressed, gauges were adjusted and readouts were tapped. Cody didn't understand any of it. After a moment of silence he asked, "You know why we're heading to this Pannett? Seems a ways to go from where we're at now."

Kenton shook his head. "I just go where they point me, same as you. I'd be the wrong one to talk to."

Coad couldn't help but grin. "Good point. I suppose I should find Jae for the brief." He spun around and headed for the exit. "See ya later, guys."

"Uh-huh," Kenton muttered.

"See ya," said Joane with a wave.

Jae was in the mess hall, datapad scrolling through info while she read. A half-eaten plate of the day's MRI mush was pushed to the side, the fork held in her mouth while she pored over the data on-screen. Cody took the seat across from her, propping his head up on his hands and looking down at the upside-down text. "Same mission, different day?"

Looking up at him, Jae gave a theatrical sigh and looked back down at the pad. "Always. Catch bad guys, shoot up the ones you can't. Though this one -does- seem a little interesting. I think you'll like it."

"Oh? I haven't got a chance to look at it yet."

"No? It should've been sent to you... Oh wait." Jae rolled her eyes and began tapping away on her datapad. "I haven't got the chance to do the paperwork for your move up. Let me just... There we go."

Cody's datapad began vibrating, and he pulled it out to view the document she just sent him. As he read, his heart began to pound in excitement. "Oh yes, this is interesting indeed... Very interesting."

He put his pad down and grinned at Jae. "I suddenly don't mind missing out on leave so much."

-----------------------------------------------

The conference room was compact, the necessities packed into the cramped interior like the rest of the ship. A crescent-shaped table took up the center of the room, leaving just enough room on the outside for high-legged stools.

In a quick five minutes after calling the briefing, all of the RAIDERS were assembled. Well, it'd be weird for them to be late to this meeting, He thought to himself as Heliwer walked into the room and took the seat between Dusk and Karash. There aren't very many places to go on this ship. Mox took the stool to the far right and leaned back until his shoulders were resting on the wall. Alright, full house.

"Glad to see no one got lost getting here," Coadster said aloud, crossing his arms and leaning on the wall on the far side of the room, relatively speaking. There wasn't anything realy 'far' about anything int he room. "Jae, we ready to get this briefing going?"

"Hold on, this gorram thing is being difficult." Jae continued fiddling with the cozy holo-projector nestled against the table, a thin cord running from it and her datapad. Suddenly, a ghostly image of Pannett appeared in brilliant blue. "Alright!" she exclaimed. "Now we can get started. Cody, if you would."

He nodded, and stood up straight. "When I was in the Jesters, our mission was to catch Cailan Forlax, a criminal to the Empire that was planning on selling secrets to the New Republic. We ended up botching the job, and Forlax escaped on a ship, disappearing in deep space before we could track him. The ship has been invisible and undetected for the months since Jesters was disbanded. That is, until just recently."

"So we flew across the galaxy to catch one person?" Mox asked, eyebrow raised in a skeptical manner.

"One person," Jae answered, walking to stand beside the holoprojector. "That had access to the Empire's most classified secrets, many of them having the potential to harm the VE if they were to get out. This man is dangerous."

Jae motions to the hologram. "And after several months, the ship has resurfaced again, heading right toward a habitated planet. This planet is where we're heading to right now - Pannett. We'll touch down here -" with a flick of her wrist, Pannett spins and zooms into the middle of a landmass thick with forest. "- in Treton, the world's capital. We have an embassy here, and from there we'll track the ship to where it lands on the planet. We have two objectives this time: catch Forlax or terminate him, whichever happens first; and find out exactly what secrets he was selling.

"Obviously we'll start with the ship, and if we can catch him there great. If not though, from what Cody's told me we're in for a hell of a time rooting him out. Let's not let that happen."

Jae shut the holoprojector down, and the blue plane of forest disappeared.  "Any questions? No? Good. We'll be arriving in a few hours, so make sure you're suited up and packed before re-entry. RAIDERS, dismissed!"

OOC:
Okay, so it's finally up! We'll be going after Cailan Forlax, a cunning criminal with deadly secrets. We're picking this story arc up from where Jesters left off last, so it might be a little confusing. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM me or Jae.

Right now feel free to post getting ready for the mission, interacting with one another, etc. I'll be writing the touch-down on Wednesday.

It's good to be back, RAIDERS!

Great… just great… Mox thought to himself as he took out his DataPad.

The past few days were not pleasant for Mox. The psychologists who were inspecting Phoenix after the return from Shumongi recommended that at least half of the troopers took leave. Mox wouldn’t mind taking off the 2 weeks that the psychologists recommended for most of the troopers except… he had nowhere to go. He was also sure that if he came out of the fighting the past would catch up to him, he knew that he would be tempted to return to his undercover life, as without Joamer or Brightstar it would much easier. But he also had no place that he could call home. He thought about going back to Tadath, but he knew that he wouldn’t find peace there. And so he decided to stay with the RAIDERS. Surprisingly the whole squad decided to stay too and so they soon received the mission they were travelling to now.

He tried to find any data on the planet they were going to but the information was scarce. Unlike some smuggler worlds that are known to everybody but hide their secrets, this world was a secret. How is this possible? Mox thought as he shook his head And who is this guy anyway… Wait… As Mox looked away from the DataPad a revelation entered his mind If he knows the secrets of the VE… he may had access to the secrets of the GALACTIC Empire… Maybe finally I would discover the truth… maybe… Mox looked up with not believing what this mission would allow him to do, his helmet on.

Dusk and Heliwer were chatting, while the SLs discussed something next to the pilot cabin. Him and Karash were the only ones who kept to themselves. He wondered what Karash was thinking about, and why he didn’t take his leave. He was recommended a whole month… Mox thought to himself. Looking back down he continued thinking abou the man they were set up to capture. He knew that he would have to catch the man himself if he wanted to find out anything without endangering his position in VE so much. That was one of the reasons as to why he decided to take on in this mission. He hoped to gain access to imperial records. Guess it takes longer than I thought… getting ranked up. This is my only chance to find out what happened to me… and how was I found by the rebels…

Deciding not to think about the matter too much Mox opened a new tab and searched through the new specialisation courses. Whoever came up with this is an idiot… Mox thought to himself as he seen a couple of his favourite items requiring a course certification to be used. This is the military, not some school… As Mox looked over the advanced Slicing courses as well as the course that would unlock the jump boots, he wondered if there was a free-running course. He searched the page and found one: ‘Parkour Course’. It wasn’t an officially endorsed course, more of activity to get the soldiers minds off the war. That’s exactly what I need… Mox thought to himself as he read through what does the course provides This will allow me to get anywhere I want… I need this and the ‘Experimental Gadget’ spec… When I get back from this mission I’ll apply for them.

Mox locked his DataPad and put it back into his pocket. Unclipping his anti-armor attachment he started thinking about the whole new system of certifications. So am I the only one here with explosives? That’s nice… Having no grenades was terrible as you couldn’t clear out rooms before you ventured into them, but Mox found a way around. The gun wasn’t classified as experimental, future or ‘grenade’ weapon so he was able to use it freely.

Mox turn off his visor and darkness opened before him. He also turned off the mic so he couldn’t hear the mumbles of his squadmates. Having connected his DataPad to his helmet he set it to wake him up as they were nearing the atmosphere of the planet. He was sure someone would wake him up before that but he just wanted to make sure he was awake when they were entering the planet. Damnation… without the undercover bullshit travelling for a long times seems so boring… but maybe I’ll be done with it all after this mission…

With that thought in mind Mox fell asleep.

'Well, if Jester fails just send in RAIDERS to clean up. Or at least destroy everything so there's no trace.' Dusk thought as he was walking back to his quarters. He stopped by the ships armory to pick up his gear. Walking in he walked up to his locker and punched in his code. He opened it and began assembling his armor. He clipped his helmet to his belt and walked up to the weapon rack; grabbing his holster with Bull Stopper in place, clipped his FSK to his leg, and slung his DLT over his shoulder. He closed his locker as he walked out.

Dusk walked into his personal quarters and flipped on the lights. He walked over to the small dresser and opened the top drawer full with his personal effects. He grabbed his Imperial locket and clipped it round his neck, slipping that under his chest piece. He moved a few things aside and grabbed his sonic screwdriver, putting it in one of the many pouches on his belt, he crouched next to his cot. Reaching under it, he pulled out a large case. He placed it on top of the mattress and opened it. Dusk lifted the Prowler out of the case and set it to the side. He then took out the harness and clipped it to his back. He slipped the control pad onto his arm. He hit a few keys and the Prowler slowly turned on. It began hovering in the middle of the cramped room. Hitting another key, the droid's assorted things protruding from it began to retract and it floated over to Dusk who turned around as it locked it's self into the harness.

As he was about to step out of the room he snapped around and grabbed his lighter out of the drawer. Returning to the hall, he adjusted his rifle. He was heading to the hanger when he felt the slight twinge in his right arm when he got a call on his private channel. "3PO, what is it? I don't have much time."
"Sir, the task you've requested of me has been completed. The 'meeting' went wonderful, and I am fully in control of the security at Arture Tech's salaries."
"Ok, good. But next time send a message to my data pad. This channel is supposed to be for emergencies when I'm on duty."
"I will make note of that, sir. But I assumed you would want to know of this as son as it was done."
"It's ok, just don't call again over the next few days. Alright."
"Yes, indeed. Good bye sir."
"Talk to ya later 3PO."

Coming into the hanger he saw Heli and sat down next to the man; they soon started making small talk. During a pause in their chat, Dusk looked around the  shuttle. His gaze fell on Mox. He didn't really know the man even though they've been in the squad together for around a year. The trooper hoped to get to know the other man during the mission. Thinking of going over and talking to him, Dusk noticed the man's breathing was slowed indicting that he was asleep. He decided against the thought and try to sleep himself.

The com had gone off in the middle of her conversation with Coadster and the pilots, tearing her away from what had been something decent and driving her down the hall and into her bunk room. Now she was growling into the com, her face contorted into something akin to frustration, anger and hurt.

Jae sat on her bed, elbows on her knees, forehead resting in the palms of her hands and her sea-foam trained on the floor, glaring at the spec of dust that dared travel into her vision. "I just don't feel safe without more on me..." Despite the frustration in her eye, the way the corners of her mouth dip down and her lips pursed into that well known grimace, she sounded defeated. "Why can't you force the approval? ... Fraternization my ass, they've known about us for years. Even before the rings." The sound of defeat grew in her tone despite the angry growl that laced each word.

The woman's right hand dropped away from her forehead, now hanging limply, her forearm supported by her knee. Those eye, narrowed in thought and frustration and pain, locked onto the silver ring inlaid with small green and blue gems. For long moments she stared at it. The beauty of the ring had always captured her, and the fact that she was able to find it with a perfectly matching other still mystifies her to this day. As she listened to the lecture on the other side of the com, she couldn't help but narrow her eye even more at the bit of silver and pretty gems.

Another few moments passed and her eye suddenly darted up, away from the ring. The corners of her mouth twitched and she let out a low growl. "You know why I don't feel safe. Can't believe you had to ask that." Another growl began, this time travelling up the entire length of her back, sitting in the back of her throat and then erupted into a snarl as she shouted into the com. "You need to come back! I can't cover for you forever! High command is asking about you more and more! I can't do this, Ayme!"

Jae was standing now, glaring at the door way as if the person on the other end of the line was standing there. To Jae, she was. In the broken Squad Leader's eye Ayme Katash was standing in the door way, a ghostly apparition... just out of reach.

"...Fine. Whatever. I'll deal with it. But I'm keeping both Treppus blades. ... Damn right I can do that. ... Love you, too. And please... come back soon." With a sigh Jae clicked off the com, but she remained standing with rigid muscles, her eye still narrowed at the empty doorway that led into the hall of the ship.

It wasn't until Coadster passed the doorway, did a double take and came to stand in the area where Jae had imagined Havock standing, that the woman finally broke from that rigid stance.

With a quirked brow, the ASL cocked his head. "Didn't get clearance for the Starslasher?"

Jae shook her head.

Coadster let out a soft sigh. "I saw that coming. They really cracked down on gear allowances." He ran a hand through his hair and down the back of his neck, rubbing at it slightly as if unsure of what else to say. A silence passed between the two commanders before he finally spoke again. "How is she?"

"Still gone." The voice wasn't angry, it wasn't broken, it wasn't frustrated. It was defeated. She slumped back down onto the edge of her bed, shoulders hunched.

"Command still pestering you about her?"

Jae scoffed. "Yup. But she will barely tell me anything, so it's kind of hard to cover for her the way she expects me to." She stood and moved to her locker and began packing a bag full of the normal nicks and knacks that she brought with her for her Slicing duties. "Rivvett, wake up. Time to go soon." With a soft whir, the simian-esque slicing bot came to life at her voice command and bounced out of the locker, standing in front of Coadster.

"Hey little buddy." The ASL smiled down at the bot before looking back up at Jae, who was now geared, with her messenger bag slung across her shoulder. She had already been in the SCOPE armor, the helmet now hooked to her belt. "Command is allowing you to bring Rivvett?"

"Who says I asked Command?" She smirked, her eyes seeming to come back to life - the old Jae - and she walked passed Coadster and toward the common area, Rivvett following behind obediently.

Coadster shook his head, smiling after the little monkey bot and followed, chukling a bit himself.

So it's small, and kinda derpy, but I needed some Character Development since I hadn't posted in a while.

‘Clearing up the mess of bloody Jokers. . . Jesters, always was a stupid name, how can we be expected to pick up where they left off?’

Karash’s inner thoughts were even more erratic than usual; the past few weeks had been particularly testing though he had refused to go on leave. Without his work in the RAIDERS, the medic had nothing else to do except think and thinking was the most dangerous thing he could do. He had found that thoughts and ideas were far more destructive than any physical actions.

‘I suppose they think just because Coadster is here we have to do their dirty work. Well I will let him know precisely what I think . . . bloody pilots!’ Karash flailed about wildly as ship shuddered heavily, ‘they never could do their job properly I will let those flying morons know exactly what I think off . . .’ This time the medic paused slightly as heard a noise in the near distance, ‘And as for our gallant squad leader, what a mess she is in, again. I said from the beginning that she and Havock would lead to nothing but disaster but would they listen . . .  And Grahim, where the bloody hell did he go off to, I may have killed him once but that is no reason to just disappear. . .’

Karash needed a distraction and he needed it quickly, his thoughts were falling through his memories at almost terminal velocity and if he was not careful he would soon be reliving his capture on Kalee. The whole reason he had chosen to sit in the common area of the ship, was that he assumed other members of the squad would be there to distract him. As it turned out he was the only one there; the one time he wanted to interact with his squad-mates, was the one time they had decided to play hide and seek.

The noise that he had heard moments ago was now on top of him, it was now recognisable and it sent a shiver down his spin. His nemesis had returned. It had been years since Karash had seen him; perhaps it was destiny that the two would meet again just as the medic needed a distraction. Karash dug his feet into the floor and narrowed his eyes, the noise was now just outside the door, and he could feel the sweat forming on his brow. The door was opening.

Karash licked his lips and said the name that struck fear into his heart, “Rivvett.”

The small bot whizzed into the room, ejaculating a series of beeps in his usual excited manner. The little bot spun around at the sight of Karash as he never could resist a chance to taunt the long suffering medic. Rivvett immediately bumped into him, the noises the thing made were so very annoying; the little machine had always seemed to do its best to annoy Karash, like a sickly sweet puppy dog the bot apparently doted on him. It was of course a rouse, the medic knew that the droid was pure evil, it pretend to be charming and sweet when in fact it was hell bent on destroying Karash and any life form that got in its way.

“Why the hell is that thing still active?” Karash shouted as he swatted his hands wildly in an attempt to shoo Rivvett away.

The temporary scowl on Jae’s face was quickly replaced by a deep smirk, “Leave him alone, he is not doing anything wrong.”

“I can bet that the thing is not officially meant to be here. . . Get away from me you rusty heap of sh. . . .” Karash was red in the face and spinning like a ballerina with a caffeine addiction, still attempting to get the droid to leave him alone.

“Surely, even you, cannot dislike him?” Coadster, stood next to Jae in the doorway, was struggling to hold back hysterical laughter.

Finally Karash lunged for Rivvett in an attempt to put the thing out of action permenantly. The little bot moved quickly and Karash ended up flat on his face, knocking a table and two chairs over in the process. Laying on the floor he could Jae and Coad finally burst into fits of laughter, once again the demonic robot had won, hear the droid letting out a series of empathetic beeps but Karash knew that his arch nemesis was gloating over his victory.

‘I should have gone on leave. Somebody is going to pay because of this, no, Mox is going to pay for of this.’

After wearing the Shadowsuit so often, putting on the SCOPE armor felt like a job and a half for Cody. Buckle here, strap there, make sure that the shoulder pads were on right... It was definitely more work than simply slipping on a silky suit and being done with it. Though thinking back, he supposed being able to take a few blaster bolts was nicer than being able to see the sunlight through a blaster hole through the gut.

"RAIDERS," Kenton's voice spouted through the intercom. "We're cleared for landing, five minutes 'til entry."

Strapping on the newly repaired Holdout Pistol, his own little bit of Aargau, he slung a DLT over his shoulder and double-checked that everything was in its proper place. With that, he left for the bucket seats. He was eager to get this show on the road.

Cody was the last to his seat, everyone else strapped in and geared up probably long before. Strangely, seeing everyone in the same armor made Cody feel a bit of pride. "Well look at all of us!" He said as he snapped his safety straps into place. "All of us in matching uniforms! Makes us look almost like we're part of the military or something!"

His joke wasn't taken terribly well, and his bit of elation deflated again. The new loadout list being enforced on the RAIDERS wasn't so popular within the squad, and his quips were not entirely appropriate considering the mood. Sighing, he checked the time on his datapad. C'mon now, when are we gonna do this thing?

His question was answered by Kenton's voice again sputtering through the ship's intercom. "Alright, entry in ten seconds. Strap in now or hold on to something tight, because here we go."

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Well, RAIDERS, welcome to Pannett."

The hatch opened with a metallic hum, and afternoon sunlight poured into the ship. Gratefully, Cody unbuckled the straps holding him in and stretched languidly, giving a sigh of relief as his vertabrae gave him applause for moving after so long. The rest of the squad was doing more or less the same thing. Taking lead, Jae motioned toward the door.

"Alright, let's form up. Don't want them thinking they've been waiting for nothing."

Leaves crunched beneath the squad's feet as they filed out of the shuttle one by one, heading toward a squat building beside the landing pad with the Empire's flag flapping lazily in the breeze. The word, "EMBASSY," was written on top of a door to the left of the building, and a door to the far right was marked, "TRETON SECURITY." Surrounding both the building and the pad was a large fence.

After a moment, an old man with frazzled white hair came through the  Embassy door. "RAIDERS?" He called as he walked toward the squad, stooped forward and squinting to get a better look. Jae nodded, and the man nodded in kind. "Alright. C'mon, follow me."

The building inside was large and open, the only walls being in the back where offices were. Between the RAIDERS and them was a maze of cubicles full of typing, talking, busy people. Apparently it was necessary to go through it, because that's where the old man took them.  "'Bout damned time you got here," he said to the squad over his shoulder. "We were told to sit on our hands and wait for you to get here. Haven't had any excitement for years but the usual anti-Empire bantha gatherings, and we have to hurry up and wait for a single unit to travel a quarter of the damned Galaxy to get here..."

He continued to grumble as he slid his keycard into a door lock and tap a few numbers into the pad above. He opened the door for the squad. "Don't know what the Galaxy's coming to. Been here since we took over this fire-fodder planet, and now we can't take care of one little shuttle without having to call in backup from the Outer Rim 'n beyond..."

The old man closed the door behind the RAIDERS after they shuffled in, muttering all the while, and shouldered past the troopers cramped in the office. With a small grunt, he leaned over and plopped into a chair. "Ah. That's better. Name's Werner, by the way. Just Werner. Now, let me find the folder on this shuttle..."

Sifting through the assorted papers and files, he pulled out several and flipped through them, tsking with each one. "Oh, hope I didn't throw it away. It's the only copy we got...

"Why do you... use paper?" Cody couldn't help but ask. It seemed rather odd; he'd never seen official documents on anything but his datapad before.

"Son, have you looked around? So many trees, we don't hardly know what else to do with 'em. They grow like weeds here, and damned big weeds they are- Aha! Here it is!"  With a triumphant smile Werner brandished the folder in question and gave it to Jae. "The shuttle landed at the public port  yesterday, at the edge of Treton. We let the pilot and the guy he came with leave the port, and trailed them to the East side of town. As far as we know, they're still there. It's the more rebellious side of town, certainly the place to go to if you're hiding from the law. Now, we've been waiting with a team ready to confiscate that ship since it got here. I'm sure you space cowboys'll have it all handled, but do you mind terribly if we send a few of our own with ya?"

"Well, this is a dangerous fugitive we're going after, and a high-priority one at that," Cody said, remembering the incident in the warehouse in Stanaru. "Putting your men in the way of harm wouldn't be appropriate, I don't think."

"It's a five mile walk to the space port, and we've got the keys to the hovercars outside."

Flabberghasted, Cody stumbled to find words. With a smug grin, Werner nodded and clicked a button on his desk. "Marce, get the boys ready. We're ready to go."

Getting up, he again pushed his way to the door. "If you'll just follow me... Oh! And we've got a bad reputation here in Treton. Don't do anything in public to make it worse, y'hear?"

Awright, on the way to the shuttle! Pannett doesn't look too kindly on the STC, so at the very least they should be obnoxious

The grumble ripped through her throat as they moved out of the embassy. She already wasn't happy about not being allowed her normal amount of weaponry, but now they had to tow along a couple of the embassy's, probably, useless bodies. She figured the grumble didn't go unheard, and as she turned around to check to see if everyone was in tow, she hoped to see what the sound had enticed from the newest tag-a-longs. But what she had hoped to see wasn't there.

She had expected scowls of the worse nature, the angriest of glares or even the flick of an uneasy, flinching fist. What she was met with made her stomach tighten and her jaw fight to drop open. Luckily she was able to control the latter.

At the back of the group stood two lithe women, both with shoulder length, layered hair. One bore onyx locks, while the other had a hair of pure fire. Both of the women's eyes were the darkest shade of green. And both of them were smirking. Not a single trace of anger or apprehension was evident on either of their faces. They stood at attention, their smirks remaining in place even as they took another step forward, almost in perfect unison, and both nodded to Jae, then to Coadster.

"Ulyssandra Blint," said the onyx haired woman.

"Viridiana Blint," followed the flame headed girl.

So they were twins. The only difference was the hair. Jae had to fight to keep her normal scowl, but what she hadn't realized was that her face had disobeyed her moments ago and now she stood with a gaping mouth and wide eyes. It was only when she felt the sharp jab of an elbow to her rib cage that she was roused from whatever hell those two women had dragged her to.

"What?!" She snapped, rather loudly, at Coadster, who stood beside her with quirked brow and bemused face. She held her side with the hand that wasn't clenched into a fist.

Cody coughed and gestured toward the two women. "Did you want to uhm... introduce the squad or...?" He spoke slowly, as if he were speaking with someone who had just come out of a coma.

Jae brows knitted together as she craned her neck towards him in incredulity, her shoulders hunching up. "What? What are you babbling about?" Behind her she heard an eruption of laughter. In a whirlwind of motion she whipped her head around and glared at the, if she could have her way, 'dead man'. It was Mox, who was doubled over and laughing, one shaky hand pointing at his Squad Leader as his other arm cradled his stomach. "What in the ruttin' hells are you laughing at?!" She barked at him, only to be turned back around by Cody's hand on her shoulder.

"They uhm... introduced themselves. You went all uhm..." he twirled a finger around his ear and cocked his head to the side.

Instantly, she felt her cheeks burning, her lips parted and she shook her head quickly, ridding her cheeks of the flush, though it was probably too late and everyone had seen. She turned to the two women, straightening herself and squaring her shoulders as she nodded to them, keeping her chin high. Her palms were still sweating. "Sergeant First Class Jaenna Caldwin, Squad Leader of RAIDERS Squad, Wildcard Platoon, Pheonix Company, Dragon Battalion of the Osiris regiment of the Vast Empire Imperial Stormtrooper Corps." She nodded again and turned, making her way to the hovercars that were parked only a handful of yards away.

As she walked away she heard Coadster introduce himself and the others... and apologize for the Squad Leader's odd behavior. She heard them all turn and head towards the cars as well.

"I've never seen her act like that before..."

"Yeah... even when she's stoned off her gourd..."

The whispers stopped as soon as she turned to glare at Mox and Dusk. With a grunt she put her helmet on, this time successfully hiding the flaming blush that crept to her cheek again and climbed into one of the cars. "Gimmie the keys. Lets get going already." Her voice held the bark of a command and she caught the key that was instantly thrown to her.

Within moments the squad and the two women were racing through the partially dense forest of Pannett.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

"Do we really have to leave them in the forest?"

"Yes."

"Why can't we take them with us? I don't feel like walking through the streets."

"I don't care."

"But-"

"Shut up."

"But-"

"No."

"The streets are filled with people who hate us already, taking the cars will gets us to the yard faster."

"They're my cars, I said no."

"...fine." Dusk hunched his shoulders and dropped the key into Viridiana's hand and leapt out of the car. He straightened himself, adjusted his gear and gathered with the rest of the group.

Jae stood there, her helmet still for fear of her cheeks betraying her again. She watched as Heliwer leaned over to Cody and whispered something. Without being noticed, hopefully, she took a step toward them and caught the very end of what Heliwer had said.

"...wouldn't have been able to handle him like that. Holy shit that woman is amazing."

Without warning, Jae's hand connected with the back of Heliwer's head in a not-so-gentle warning smack. She growled at him through her helmet, meeting his glare with her own. With a grunt she turned toward the two women. "So, you know this place better than us. Lead the way."

"You sure you're up for us leading the way, darling?" Viridiana chuckled as she placed a hand on her hip, thrusting it outward.

Jae visibly stiffened and let out another grumble. "Yes, I'm sure. Just lead the way."

Viridiana chuckled again and sauntered in front of the group, Ulyssandra following behind. Though before she joined her sister she leaned close to Jae and whispered.

"Don't worry about her, she likes to tease. But only when she knows it'll get a reaction." With a smile Ulyssandra tottered over to join her sister at the front of the group.

Jae turned to Cody and sighed. "I don't think I can handle this, Cody. She's been gone so long... I miss her..."

Coadster placed a hand on her shoulder and gave it a squeeze. "Just don't let those women get to you. Especially since I'm sure Havock would kick your ass if she found out you did anything."

Jae's jaw dropped as she fought to defend herself, but before she could say anything Coadster held back a chuckle and patted her on the shoulder, then went off to join the group. In a huff, the Squad Leader turned and joined them as well, still feeling the sweat on her palms.

So… we’re moving on foot…

The RAIDERS abandoned the hover cars after reaching the forest, but the reason for it for unknown to Mox. So they walked on knew that he shouldn’t go on Jae’s nerves, and after Dusk’s mention about her drug usage he was certain this mission will not be pleasant. He wondered whether Jae had brought some spice with her, though seeing as she not lit one yet he was rather convinced she didn’t. Maybe High Command didn’t allow her too… Or she’s just trying to cut down on it. Mox thought, but as he remembered the ‘Liberty Station’ and shuddered about the thought of her losing control of herself Though she probably shouldn’t do that…

The walk was long and uneventful. But as soon as they started entering the more liberal side of town the two twins switched from relaxed to alert.

“Speed up now, walking so casually is going to make us an easy target for an anti-Imperial gang.”

“Like we can’t deal with them…” Heliwer retorted, clearly annoyed with the walk

“We could, but news spread quickly here. The man could escape by one of the transports or simply disappear in the town. I think you’ll prefer to remain unnoticed…”

“And we could avoid this all if we just took the hover cars to the port…”

Dusk’s comment was left unanswered as the two twins sped up and walked into an alley. The RAIDERS followed inside the alley and into a doorway.

“Right. Together we will attract too much attention. We will split into groups of three and.” Mox and Dusk were split with Coadster, while Karash and Fain were to follow Viridiana. “I think you can figure out the way to the port.”Ulyssandra(who took Jae and Heliwer) said to Mox, Coadster and Dusk as she pointed them out the door. Coadster made his way out and Mox and Dusk followed him.

The groups exited in 15 minutes delays, with Coadster going first, Ulyss second and Viridiana last. Mox kept his helmet on and so he wasn’t worried about any possible rebel spys or veterans recognising him. As they walked Dusk walked up and tried to start a conversation with the soldier.

“So… what do you think of this mission?”

“Me? What does it matter. We’re just soldiers. We’re not supposed to question. Though I find it funny that a person managed to grasp on most of the Vast Empire secrets…” Mox was careful not to imply his desire to interrogate the man. “What about you?”

“It’s just another mission. If something fails you send in something better, and I consider RAIDERS better than whatever Jester was-”

“Coadster was in Jesters…” Mox cut in, trying to keep his voice down, so that the ASL couple of meters ahead of them could not hear him.

“So? He came back and that’s all that matters. If Jester was disbanded then it clearly means it wasn’t that great of a squad. And Stormtrooper Corps are the elites, so we don’t need such squads.” Dusk continued.

Mox shrugged and look over the horizon. The port could clearly be seen and Mox knew that soon the RAIDERS would be rejoined to find the criminal. After a while of awkward silence Dusk asked another question, one Mox hoped not to be asked.

“Why did you join the Vast Empire?”

Mox could feel the blood rushing to his brain, trying to make an excuse on the spot. The one he was given just before his first trip to Tadath was already long forgotten and left behind, and Mox didn’t know what to say.

“Hmmm… I don’t know. I just did.” Mox said raising his arms. He was sure that was not the answer Dusk seeked, but he didn’t have any other one coming to his head. The answer was short, yet unsatisfying and he knew that if Dusk wanted to know more about the past rebel, he would continue to ask questions. “I guess I wanted to find something to do worthwhile in life…”

Dusk raised his brow and Mox was sure that he has seen through his lie, but before he could ask any more questions Coadster stopped them.

“Alright. The rest of the team should soon be here so we should all be able to enter the space port soon. Hopefully they won’t attract any more attention…”

“So what now?”

Heliwer was still glaring at Jaenna as his group made their way out into the streets. He was more relaxed of recently, and was only passing his opinion to Coadster when he was slapped hard in the back of the head by the squad leader. Maybe it had to do with the lack of spice, he silently mused. He hadn’t seen her pull out anything since the mission began, so he began to hope that there wouldn’t be any problems like on Liberty Station. He turned his attention to the two women in front of him, who stopped for a moment to just make sure they were heading in the right direction.
“Why is it I am in the group with two girls?” He asked to Jaenna. “I mean, couldn’t you have gone with Mox and Dusk and let Cody come with me and our fine tour guide?”
Ulyssandra let out a slight chuckle. “Why? Don’t you like being around women?” She jested.
“Naw, ain’t that. It’s just being in the same group as Gunny here. I would be delighted if I was blessed with being in the same group as you and your sis.”
He was cut short by a very hard punch coming from Jaenna into his chest. “Look, I’m here in this same group as you because I need to make sure you don’t do something you’d regret, like getting involved when you shouldn’t be.”
“Hey, take it easy! I’m feeling better, and I just feel that I should try to enjoy myself more.”
“Just don’t get your hopes up.”
The trio resumed moving through the streets after Ulyssandra led them down the right path. Heliwer let out a sigh as he continued through an alleyway, avoiding the garbage left out and ended up next to Jaenna again. “Are you alright?” He asked with sincerity.
“It’s nothing you should worry about.” The woman flatly responded.
“You’re the squad leader. We all need you in top shape to perform, including you. You seem off.”
“Nothing of your concern.”
Another sigh escaped his mouth as he shook his head. “Alright, but don’t think that you’re the only one in this squad with problems. Seems like you almost need one to get into here. Crazy RAIDERS for sure.”
“Hey you two, come on!” Ulyssandra called. “Keep up. We move any slower, and you won’t have enough time to even get into position to defend.”
“You underestimate me. I am rather quick and I’d be able to get a bead on any anti-Imperial bastard who wants to kill us.” The big trooper chuckled , picking up his pace to catch up to the guide. Within a few minutes, the threesome made it to just across a block away from the space port. However, they had run into a problem. “Shit.” The woman cursed. “That’s a well-known anti-Imperial gang right where we need to go. Why the hell are they here?”
“Maybe it has to do that it’s just where they decided to be?”
“Don’t be an ass, Heliwer.”
He ignored that comment and switched on his comms. “Hey, any of you guys made it to the space port yet? We need a little distraction to get rid of this little problem we got here.”
“We’ll see what we can do.” Coadster’s voice came through. “Been waiting here a good minute or two for you guys. Hope the other group hasn’t gotten themselves in more trouble.”

“I hope you boys can keep up, I plan on going fast. I hope that does not make you two uncomfortable.” Viridiana wiggled slightly as she spoke, clearly trying to make the two RAIDERS as uncomfortable as possible.

Karash did not know Fain and therefore would have done his level best to ignore him. However this was no longer possible as the new member had been placed with Karash, as well as that he now had to tangle with the local that seemed to revel in the ability to make people squirm with her feminine charms.

“Do try and control yourself. I realise people on these backwater planets need to take the excitement where they can get it but I won’t be dragged into your petty games.” Karash spoke sternly and looked down at the now smirking woman.

“Yes sir, we had better keep moving then.” Viridiana began to move before she turned flicking her hair lazily, “Stay close handsome.”

Fain was obviously still in a state of slight shock, not only had he been attached to the most deranged squad in the army but he had seen his new Squad Leader go to pieces when confronted with an attractive face and sent off with that attractive face as well as an apathetic Senior Sergeant. Though as always Karash was entirely oblivious to the concerns of the unknown trooper, people needed to earn his concern and Fain had not yet done so. Karash was worried about Jae and her continuing troubles, he worried about Heliwer and his instability, he worried about why Viridiana had stopped.

“What’s the problem now?” Karash asked impatiently.

“Let’s just say I know some of the people over there.” She spoke sheepishly, lacking her former confidence.

“How do you know them? Are they going to cause us any trouble?” The medic also spoke in a more serious tone.

“I’m ready if they do!” Fain spoke, for the first time, with an audible enthusiasm.

“Shut-up!” Karash barked, he was in no mood for the passions of youth.

“I just know them. . . . from somewhere. . .” Viridiana was clearly eager to move quickly.

“You’ve slept with one of the them! You are seriously telling me that we may end up failing in the capture of a major criminal because one of the locals and mated with another one of the locals!” Karash literally shook with disbelief.

Viridiana’s face changed colour to match that of her hair, Fain stood nervously as he watched the Senior Sergeant continue to flail about wildly. Karash was only interrupted by the beeping of his comms device, which proved to be a fortunate distraction.

“Who the hell is this?” He spoke abruptly.

“Everything going well then Karash?” Luckily, Coadster sounded amused more than offended.

“I have apparently set up an inter-galactic relationship service. If Jae is listening I will move on to her in just a moment.” As Karash spoke he stared coldly at Viridiana.

“OK. . . We have slight problem this end. Any ideas?”

As the trio got settled into position Dusk noticed Mox had a slight anticipation or something about the mission.

“Hey, any of you guys made it to the space port yet? We need a little distraction to get rid of this little problem we got here.” Heli called through the comms.
“We’ll see what we can do.” Coadster responded. “Been waiting here a good minute or two for you guys. Hope the other group hasn’t gotten themselves in more trouble.”

"Well, you guys have any ideas?" Coad asked, looking at the other two men.
"I think I may have an idea." Dusk said, a smirk forming under his helmet.

He stood up and began to turn on his Prowler. It popped off of his back and hovered there for a second as Jacen punched in some information. After it didn't respond he hit the control pad, "Blasted thing," He cursed turning it over to see the manufacturer. "Figures, Arakyd, their stuff never works for me." He pulled out his sonic and did a bit of touch up. Hitting a few more things, "There we go. Now to have some fun."

He flew the probe over to Heliwer's position and located the thing in their way. He maneuvered it over to the group and rammed into one of them. He quickly spun it around and shot off towards Karash; the gang members gave chase. Once at Karash's location he did the same thing to their problem. When the anti-imperials rounded the corner they spotted the second man. "You," the obvious leader shouted. "You gorman little bastered!"

Dusk chuckled as he guided his probe back to their position. "That went better then expected."

When the anti-Imperial gang left to chase after the Prowler, Heliwer let out a sigh. “Thanks Dusk. We’re resuming our way to you guys. By the way, any chance I could sign up for that inter-galactic dating service, Karash? Wouldn’t mind-”

Jaenna decided that it was the best time to interrupt with a hard hit to the back of his head. The soldier winced in pain and turned to respond to his squad leader, only to receive a nasty glare. Not wanting to get killed, he picked back up his DLT-20 Blaster rifle that he had set against the wall for a moment and resumed following Ulyssandra and Jaenna. Within a few minutes, the three groups were together by the space port, waiting for their orders. Heliwer was chomping at the bit, chewing his lip to keep him occupied. Eventually, the squad grouped back up, and the senior sergeant found himself right next to Mox. Not wanting to go without his daily beat-on-Mox, he stuck his foot out a little bit and made him trip, falling on his face.

“Whoops. Might wanna watch out where you’re going.” The large soldier chuckled. “Keep tripping up like that and you’ll end up losing what little brain cells you got.”

“Yeah, well at least I’ve got brain cells.” The private grumbled. Today was looking to be a good day for Heliwer. Got to meet two pretty ladies, got to beat up Mox a little bit, and hopefully shoot up some guys. Now all he had to do was play it cool, and he might end up a few clips lighter and two phone numbers in his pocket.

“Ok guys, listen up.” Said Viridiana. “Here’s the plan.”

As Mox listened to the two girls he couldn’t help but think that their plan was too simple. Two of RAIDERS were to enter the Space Port and confirm the ship’s impounding. Afterwards they would enter the restricted portion of the space port and open a Fire Exit. After that they would contact the group and the whole group would move into the port and manoeuvre in it through the Staff corridors. To Mox it seemed like the whole idea was based off the hope that the traitor did not have spies in the space port. As they were about to choose the pair of troopers Jaenna and Coadster received a comm message.

“What? Wait a minute, now? You’re kidding…” Jaenna said into her comm “Very well.”

“Who was it?” Mox asked, raising his brow under the helmet.

“Werner, the old man in the embassy. We seem to have a new recruits.” Coadster said, slowly moving his hand from his head. “And they're coming in through the spaceport.”

“More of them?” Karash barked as he leaned against a wall of the alley they were in “We still have to deal with this one…”

Mox glanced at the previous new recruit.. The boy did not enjoy the company of Karash, and the feeling seemed mutual. Well, Karash was never too big of a social person anyway. Mox himself however was indifferent about the whole situation. He even felt more relaxed as the income of soldier began to come in More people in, less attention on me.

“Well, in that case, the two troopers will also go and intercept them. Then we will proceed as planned.”

“Me and Dusk will go.” Coadster said as he started heading towards the exit of the valley. “Let’s go.”

====================================

After half an hour of waiting Coadster called the squad.

“The new guys' names are Decius and Lam. Seems like a decent pair.” Coadster’s voice boomed through the comms. “Come on in now, we got Fire Escape open for you. Just on the right of the main staircase.”

The group moved and soon they were in front of the entrance, greeted by Coadster, Dusk and a two man clad in imperial armor. Taller than me... Mox thought to himself. Both of them were at least two meters tall.

“Let’s not stand here, come on.” Jaenna said as she came went through the door way. RAIDERS followed. “Coad, is the ship still impounded?”

“Yeah. The man is also somewhere in this district, but the people here don’t know exactly where.”

“Should be easy to figure out where he went after we search the ship….”

As usual, Dusk, being open to everyone, immediately picked up a conversation with the man named Lam. The other one instead follow the SLs closely, giving an impression of wanting to prove himself. Mox quickly took out his Datapad and checked both of them. The man named Lam was quite old, nearing his thirties. He was also raised in a noble family who supported the Empire. The other man, named Decius, seemed much more grim and RAIDERSy. Mox closed it off, and put it back into his pocket. Few minutes later they reached the hangar in which the shuttle was impounded.

“Very well, let’s get this over with. Let me know if you find anything that could give us his current location.” Jaenna said as she hacked the shuttle doors open. “What a primitive lock…

The squad quickly rushed into the shuttle and stripped it off any items that could hold info on it. Mox quickly connected himself to the mainframe and checked through the communications, but nothing of interest was to be found. How is this possible? Then he remembered something. The man did not pilot the ship itself. Therefore it was a rented shuttle. Mox sat down heavily and leaned against the wall behind him. We’re not going to find anything here… the ship is just a private transportation system…

He stood up and disconnected his Datapad from the socket. He looked over to Jaenna who was also searching through the logs and the ship’s systems. Mox knew almost for certain that this was futile and pointless. Giving up on the electric systems to give any information Mox walked over to the passenger cabins, hoping to find something there.

And this was supposed to be easy…

The DLT-20A clacked against his SCOPE armor as he and the other moved through the spaceport. Decius Hark and Lam Cole marched in approximate formation, Lam sauntering along while Dec's movements were practiced yet fluid, like a well-seasoned hunter stalking prey. The two followed the ASL, Sergeant Coadster and another trooper, PFC Dusk, who chattered on to Cole. Hark did not speak.

They had been picked up to rendezvous with RAIDERS squad about five minutes previously, shuttled in by a Navy pilot who nattered on vapidly for half an hour. How he had become an Imperial pilot when his head was so full of hot air was beyond Decius, but apparently the man had enough skill to conduct the passage of a small shuttle.

The port was paradoxical, in Hark's point of view. The space was vast enough to house many ships, yet how enclosed the place was made Hark incredibly nervous, sending a signal to the conditioned part of his lizard brain, the danger center, that governed his instincts and now cooperated with his higher brain. It was like the inside of his skull was coated with a grimy, oil-slick film that bespoke ambush and sabotage. It made Hark uneasy, and when he was uneasy, Hark shut up.

The four of them reached the shuttle that needed to be searched, as per the mission orders that he (and presumably Lam, but he didn't see it himself, so he didn't know) had studied in transit to Pannett. Rank insignias spoke as to the identities of his squad members, ASL and SL. He knew their identities and their personality profiles, but he personally didn't need any comments regarding his status as a “green” or their status as veterans. They'd fall on unwilling ears.

Dusk, as he was called, made conversation with Cole, and that suited Hark just fine, as the expert slicer and SL, First Sergeant Caldwin disabled the shuttle's lock, which, even to his untrained eye, was below the Imperial standard for security. The door slid open easily, the dull sound of it carrying a short distance before the waves dissipated. RAIDERS filed in, and Hark couldn't help but swell with pride inside his sleek armor. He was an Imperial soldier for the Stormtrooper Corps, at long last. Even though he was a Private Second Class, he was of the elite of the Galaxy, and that made him special. He had succeeded in serving his Empire, and he would stand tall and do honor to his father's memory.

As they swept forward, rifles unslung, checking the room for hostiles. None to be found. The SL attended to the ship's main computer. Through the comms, Hark cleared his throat, the sound gravelly and harsh.

“PSC Hark, reporting in to RAIDERS Squad,” he said, his voice rough over the communicator channel. The Sergeant, as Dec had begun to think of his SL, replied coolly.

“I can see that. You know the mission orders. Get it done, trooper!” Hark snapped to attention and nodded as Mox's finger keyed at the keypad to the passenger quarters. The barrel of Hark's DLT-20A rose and he followed behind the man, feet padding carefully, and he swung his barrel to the two corners of the comparatively small room, checking for...anything, really. As Mox looked for terminals or anything else that may contain data in the room, Hark's eyes were drawn to the sleeping arrangements. Four beds, two set bunk-style in each wall to their sides and one, larger one recessed in the wall directly in front of them. The beds were clad in gunmetal gray linen that blended easily into the grooves of the recesses. One low-watt light was set into the ceiling, providing a low, yet adequate, level of light throughout the cabin. As his eyes darted between the five beds in time, the cogs of Hark's mind worked rapidly. The days of his family's smuggling spoke to him from the past.

Boy, his father had said to him when he was seven. When you've got something to hide, you hide it where no one will think to look. Which is often where you think they will. His father's wolfish smile permeated Dec's minds eye. The corners of his mouth twitched up, like a flicker, before returning to their taut, drawn state. He walked to the center of the room, getting to his hands and knees, armored fist rising and falling as he started to pound on the floor, listening intently to the sound of the reverberations.

“What are you doing?” came Mox's voice through the comm, perturbed and surprised. Inside his helmet, Hark rolled his eyes.

“Thinking like a criminal. It'd be insane for our target to hide anything incriminating in the main computer of a rented shuttle.” Hark returned to his banging, the vibrations dampened by his knees, but his search turned up nothing. He clambered to his feet, regaining his balance as he drew his shoulders back, relaxing them. “But just because this shuttle isn't his doesn't mean there aren't a few “extras” you can opt for. Let's check under the beds. Might find a hidden cache under one.”

“You think that'll turn up something?” his fellow trooper asked as the two soldiers moved to one bunk, sliding the mattress down together.

“Never can tell. We might strike gold. We might not,” Hark said, his voice sounding noncommittal toward either outcome.

Heliwer cast a glance over at the two new members of the squad. Both of them seemed as shiny as their SCOPE armor, fresh out of bootcamp. He could sense that he probably wouldn’t have to babysit the shorter of the two, as the way he seemed to move so fluidly between motions, as if he had already been in some sort of action. Still, he could almost smell the green coming off of them, and would need to see them prove themselves to him before they could be actually useful to the first sergeant. The large group entered the space port, with the two FNGs, Dusk, and Coadster in the front. Lord knows how something so big can be so damn cramped, but it did nothing more than piss off the big trooper, as he kept getting caught on boxes. Eventually they reached the shuttle and in a flash, the antiquated lock was disabled and the squad poured in.

“Sonofa- There’s no one here!” He grumbled, rifle shouldered and ready to shoot. “And I was looking forward to a firefight.”

“We’re supposed to take him alive, Heliwer.” Called out Coadster. “Not turn him into swiss.”

“Well there’s nothing about me not being able to shoot a kneecap or two.”

The RAIDERS spread out to check out every inch of this old vessel. She had seen better days, and if the lock wasn’t proof enough, he swore that he saw an old bloodstain about chest high in one of the hallways. That guy’s gotta be really lucky, piloting this ancient thing and not getting killed. He relaxed, no longer on high alert and put his gun down resting against a wall outside the passenger quarters. Some pounding from inside made him poke his head in, seeing one of them, Hark, the one who decided to telegraph to everyone that he was a newbie via announcing who he was over the comms, on the floor pounding on different sections and listening.
“What are you doing?” Asked  Mox, who was standing over him.
“Thinking like a criminal. It'd be insane for our target to hide anything incriminating in the main computer of a rented shuttle.” He responded. “But just because this shuttle isn't his doesn't mean there aren't a few “extras” you can opt for. Let's check under the beds. Might find a hidden cache under one.”

The two slid a mattress off of one of the bunks and began to search around for anything at all. This made Heliwer chuckle. With nothing to do, he took his helmet off and set it on the ground. “Kid’s got good thinking.” He said as he slid out a cigarette into his mouth and lit it with his lighter. “Might be cause he’s got some criminal background. Takes one to know one.”

He took a deep drag of his cigarette before blowing out a small cloud of smoke. “Sure hope this gets wrapped up soon. I’m missing out on “Double-Shot Day” at the bar back on base.”

“Do you ever do anything besides kill, smoke, and drink?” Came Mox’s name as another mattress came off.

“Well I try to annoy the Hell outta you, and I like flirtin’. You ain’t never gonna get lucky, but me?”

He unclasped a flask from his waist and uncapped it, the smell of strong, hard liquor permeating the air around him. With a flick of the wrist, he took the burning cigarette out and knocked back a shot of the liquid before capping it and returning it to his waist.
“Well, you two have fun looking for dust bunnies. I’ll check out some other place, maybe see to that other new guy.”

One last drag finished the cigarette off, and he tossed the butt into the middle of the room before grabbing his helmet and rifle and walking off. He passed Jaenna sitting in the cockpit checking out the main computer, and turned in for a moment. “Mox and Hark are checking under the beds for anything that may look like incriminating evidence.” He reported. “Just a suggestion, but we may wanna look out for secret cargo holds on this bird. She may be a rental, but doesn’t mean she has no surprises.”

“Alright. Make sure to pass it on.” She responded, engrossed in searching through the bytes of information for what they needed. He gave a quick salute before passing Dusk and Karash, telling them the same thing. After making the rounds, he ended up in the main area where the twins were searching.

“Hey gals, might wanna check for any secret stashes.” He told them. “You need any help?”

“Sure.” Ulyssandra nodded. “Go search around that corner over there.”

He went to his task, not before casting a quick glance over at the two again. Today was gonna be a long day.

‘Why must the powers that be insist on sending us new troopers? They won’t be any good, they never are. Why two of them? I have barely gotten used to Mox and he has been here so long now I might have recognise him as a RAIDER.’

New people had never been liked by Karash, they were always treated with suspicion and contempt; it was as if he suspected them of some misdoing. In fact the real reason he remained distant from new troopers was that he simply did not trust them, which meant they could prove a liability. The Senior Sergeant had been around for too long to allow anything to destabilise the most unstable squad in the army any further.

Karash was uneasy he thought things were going far too well. Nothing disastrous had happened to the squad, yet. The decrepit transport would be the ideal position for the RAIDERS to come under some sort of attack and get blown into the little pieces and recycled in the planet’s atmosphere. He had taken it upon himself to take up a sentry position in an attempt to ensure they would not be caught off guard, though considering the medics reputation for getting distracted he would have been better off singing the score to the latest Imperial Opera.

“Look out for some kind of secret cargo hold. . .” Heliwer gave a salute as he passed Karash.

“Now we are playing a game of hide and go seek with something that is probably not here.” Karash muttered as he waved his hand in a limp attempt to return the salute. “How the hell am I going. . . What the hell are you doing? Never mind just keep doing it.” He had suddenly noticed that Dusk was almost standing next to him and he did not feel like being forced into a conversation so he just scowled and moved away.

The little transport was full, what with the RAIDERS and their helpers. It would not be likely that Karash would find anywhere to be alone and look for the hidden lore but nevertheless he tried to find a quiet corner. The first room he entered was obviously occupied but he had entered before that fact had hit him.

“I understand that it is one of your faults that we are playing find the hidden treasure?” Karash almost spat his words at the new troopers.

“I thought that if we look at the problem as if we were criminals. . .” One of them spoke, Karash was not sure who it was.

“Don’t give me the boy scout speech because I really could not care less. Just do try not to get us all killed.” Karash hissed.

“Play nice Kar, it was a good idea.” The voice was obviously Mox’s.

“You have only just managed to get into tolerance, do try and not get yourself demoted again.” As he spoke, Karash left the room in search of solitude.

Karash knew that he had been unfair to the new trooper, as his idea had been a good one. But that did not stop him from giving the rookie a verbal assault, after all even the SL and ASL were used to the medics own brand of venomous wisdom. It was not long before the hermit-like Sergeant has stumbled upon another group of his comrades, this time it was obviously Heliwer and the twins that had attached themselves to the squad.

“I suppose it would be too much to expect that you have brought our little treasure hunt to the end?” He asked almost sincerely.

“Now we found the stuff but we hid it again so you could find it.” A puff of smoke emerged from Heli as he spoke, as the same time audible giggles came from the other two.

“Utterly hilarious, I suppose it was too much to hope that you actually managed to contribute anything other than brute force.” Karash had tried to let the remark go, simply because he knew that Heliwer was probably the one person in the squad that could be as verbally scalding as him.

“When was the last time you did something that did not involve complaining or verbally attacking one of the rookies?” Another puff of smoke emerged but this time it was accompanied by a slight grunt.

“Around the last time you managed not to get yourself involved with whatever member of the opposite sex floated around the squad.” Once again Karash’s tongue was one beat ahead of his brain.

Just as Heliwer turned to face the medic, Ulyssandra spoke, “I think this might be it.”

The three others all looked at Ulyssandra and observed as she pulled something from what appeared to be a hidden compartment. As she picked whatever it was she had found there was a loud clicking sounded that was accompanied by clicking noise and a series of bleeps. At the same time a number of other noises seem to appear from nowhere, all of which was accompanied by the noise of Jae over the Com system.

“What the hell is that?” She barked.

“Bad fraking news.” Heliwer spoke sullenly.

“Unless I am very much mistaken, that it a countdown to what I imagine is a self destruct mechanism.” Karash’s voice was softer and more concerned than it usually was.

‘I knew someone was going to get us blown into little pieces of ash!’

“I thought that if we look at the problem as if we were criminals…” Lam started lacking his usual eloquence. It was clear the sergeant neither knew nor cared who was speaking.

“Don’t give me the boy scout speech because I really could not care less. Just do try not to get us all killed,” the sergeant hissed as he left the room.

Lam found that it was a rather barbarous statement. Clearly the odds of getting killed on a seemingly routine search of a charter craft were pretty low; even with it being previously used by a criminal. He noticed his body temperature spike with his nervousness. In an attempt to shrug it off, he went back to what he was doing prior to the beetle-browed sergeant’s interruption.

The sergeant’s commotion abided on through the other cabins and erupted more boisterously then was quickly silenced. The hush caught Lam’s attention as well as the attention of the other recruit that was with him. They looked up at each other with quizzical looks.

“Think they found something?” Lam queried. The other recruit nodded silently. The duo proceeded to the cabin that was occupied by the rest of the group. As they entered, they caught only the last few words, “self-destruct mechanism.”

“How much time do we have?” the squad leader catechized with a hint of worry.

“Not long. This is showing less than a few minutes.”

“Blast it! Everyone out and away now! Do what you can to make sure that there are as few people in the area as possible. We need to limit casualties and injuries!”

“You heard her! Let’s move!” one of the regulars shouted. At this point, Lam was sweating bullets.

“What an aboriginal day!” Lam thought to himself. He knew that it was going to be no cake walk in active duty. He hardly expected it to put him in the situation of being blown to bits within the first few minutes of duty.

The team quickly vacated the shuttle craft. With every passing moment, the tension built and became palpable. The greener members lacked the experience to deal with such type situations and it showed. On the upside, they did have the benefit of being able to look towards the more seasoned troopers for support and guidance.

hi....so Jae and I had an idea...

Goddammit I hate forests. Ayme “Havock” Katash walked slowly during her final patrol for the night. The noise from the overgrown trees was deafening, she had already suggested more than once that any method other than infrared was pointless. The last two months her life had been a return to her childhood. It all started the day Brightstar brought her the last Jester report and the name Cailan Forlax crossed her desk.

Forlax was an up and coming kind of criminal. He was smart, resourceful but impatient. Her childhood friends Bishop and Cassie from her former gang, Retathorn, had sent her encrypted intelligence on Forlax weeks before the Jester mission even launched. He had learned that the most sought after commodity in the galaxy was not credits, but it was information. A lesson most run of the mill criminals overlook.

When Jester failed to contain him Havock knew that a more direct approach was warranted. Bishop and Cassie got her the information, so that there was no chance of Forlax’s spies intercepting the inquiries, and Jegora gave her permission to take her leave. The later wasn’t difficult since she had racked up nearly one hundred hours or more of intakes leave since she became  XO.

“Hey Graves.”

Ayme turned to the voice and crouched  out of habit. As per her usual motus operendai Ayme used her sister’s name while undercover. Aryana Graves was an ARC trooper and typically undercover, not to mention her profile was harder t find on VE databases than a pink SCOPE armor set. There was only a handful of people in the galaxy that even knew that Ayme and Aryana were even remotely related much less twin sisters.

“What’s up…you.” Ayme holstered her weapon and cautiously approached the henchman.

The man, boy really, smirked and ran his hand through his gritty hair in a vein attempt to make himself more attractive. “Banner, it’s Banner. Look we heard from those chicks the boss likes so much, he wants to talk to you…for whatever reason.”

“Must be my status as a chick.” Ayme  replied distractedLu as her eyes fell on the compound deep in the woods where Forlax had holed himself up.

"Oh please Graves, if you here a chick you would have succumbed to my manly aloe by now.” He smiled confidently and swayed his hips in a repulsive fashion.

“Allure you moron. Take my patrol, and try not to screw it up.” Ayme pushed the man whose name she never planned on remembering out of the way.

The building was mundane and probably an old factory or warehouse, although why anyone would want to base their business in a forest was beyond her.

“Graves…tell me, why would anyone come to kill someone dressed in their masscarade ball outfit?” Cailan Forlax leaned over a holprojector showing what appeared to be the capital city of Treton. She never really could tell considering every part of the damn planet just looked like a forest to her.

“I don’t know sir, Is that the beginning to a joke of some kind?”

He glanced up, although his face was difficult to make out under the large brimmed hat he always wore. He seemed to regard her for several moments before scoffing under his breath and returning to the holo projector. “Out capital city seems to be hosting a squad of stormtroopers looking about as out of place as a Hutt at an Imperial inauguration. And you look like someone who misses their uniform as you stand at attentIon. Served for long there Graves?”

Ayme felt every muscle in her body tense simultaneously. “Heh, no. I mean my father he was a military man, not sure with who, probably a merc, but mom never was the talkative type.”

“Died when you were young?”

Her body relaxed. “I don’t remember the man, just some random holo’s out of context.” At least now she was back to telling the truth which was much easier than the lies.

Forlax smirked and started to pace, his eyes glancing back to the holo periodically as he thought. “I like you Graves, you get crap done, and not many merc’s take pride in their work these days. I want to know what these stormtroopers are doing on Pannett. I want you to take a speeder and report back to me when you find out their purpose here.”

Ayme tried not to fumble her words and opted to nod in response. She didn’t even know which squad had been given the mission, but She knew they were VE, and that they were here to catch Forlax. It was a mission she wished she could have told Garryll to pass off on. It wasn’t a total loss, she could make contact and give the squad some inside information but when she made that move, Forlax would know. His spy network was impressive, even by VE intelligence standards. She would make contact with the SL privately and give them the information they needed and lay low.

“On it sir.”

Ayme moved out for the building and towards the speeders her mind already speeding with plans and backup plans. The only way things could go wrong was if the SL she was going to meet was Jaenna, that would be the only time she couldn’t just slink back into the shadows. In fact if Raiders were the squad that had been sent she wasn’t sure what the future held at all.

OOC:
this has little to no effect on the rest of you, mostly just Jae and maybe Coady. But it will be a factor later.

The squad had managed to evacuate the shuttle quickly and with relative ease; some of the more recent additions to the squad seemed to be slightly more panic stricken but there basic training had told them to stay calm and for the most part that is what they did. Once all of the squad was off the transport they made a dash for whatever form of cover they could find, though considering a shuttle was about to explode in a reasonably small area it did seem rather pointless. At best the RAIDERS could hope for a few broken bones, at worst they could all expect to sent back to Tadath in a zip-lock bag with a shiny new medal pinned to the bag.

‘What a way to go, what an absolutely pathetic way to go. Just think of all the glorious ways that death could have taken you; in the diamond mines, fighting the Noghri, in the ice caves, on the zombie space shuttle. . . Instead you are going to die just five feet away from Mox. Oh the indignity.’

In such situations it was usual for time to pass quickly however it was dragging on at its usual monotonous pace. It was a spectacularly boring way to die, made worse by the heavy breathing that was coming from one of the newer members, whose name Karash was even less concerned with now. After a few more moments had passed it had become clear that they may have acted slightly prematurely, after all why would a barely functioning shuttle have a self destruct mechanism? Surely anything worth taking would surely have been taken with Forlax when he left it.

“Who the hell gave the order to run?” Karash spoke roughly as he emerged from crouching behind a few crates.

“You did.” Heliwer replied just as roughly.

“I did not; I just said it sounded like a self-destruct countdown.” The medic replied quickly.

“You said. . .”

Heliwer was cut off by Jaenna who was clearly not in the best of moods, “Both of you shut-up. Go and see what the frak is happening.”

The two Senior Sergeants marched over to the shuttle in silence, the two of them had never really seen eye to eye but not through any real dislike they were just very different people. As they got closer to the shuttle they could hear a female voice repeating the word ‘one’, the self-destruct sequence had gotten caught in an eternal loop. The RAIDERS had been saved by the fact that the ancient ship had probably not been able to cope with jolt of excitement it had just received.

“Told you it was going to self destruct. . .” Karash said immaturely.

However before Heliwer could reply the shuttle expelled a great moan followed by an almightily shudder. They both knew what was happening and instinctively dove away from the ship as forcefully as they could, in the near distance Karash could see the rest of the squad returning to their positions of safety. Disappointingly the old craft’s final blaze of glory proved to be more of a hiccough than a roar; a small explosion did happen and a few flames did burst out of the vessel optimistically. The ancient and abused shuttle did not even get the dignity of a cremation as the Space Ports automatic fire protocols leapt into action and put the pathetic blaze out.

“I hope whatever you found in there was worthwhile.” Karash snapped as he and Heli returned to the rest of the group.

“We don’t have time for any of that now; we have already drawn too much attention to ourselves. We need to work out what we are going to next and we had better do it quickly.” Jaenna was pacing slightly as she entered ‘squad leader mode’.

“I don’t think we are going to be welcome here for too much longer.” Coadster spoke as he too began to pace.

‘Well I suppose things could be worse, somebody could have gotten hurt. Nobody has gotten injured in a long time, not so they required any real help from you anyway. Not since...’ Karash shuddered, ‘not since Havock was placed in charge of military moron control, or whatever it is she does now, I think we can rest assured from here on in things are going to be simple as long as Havock doesn’t appear’

Karash snorted in an attempt to stifle a laugh, “What are the chances of that.”

His laughter was cut short by another shudder; he had decided that it was best not to tempt fate.

His breath came in painful gasps, his left quadriceps taut after landing hard, jumping off the ramp to the shuttle to escape the lackluster blast of Forlax's decoy shuttle. Inside the SCOPE armor, Hark's artificial leg whirred inaudibly, soldiering on to provide the man stability, but also causing him pain enough to make his jaw clench with every breath, the thought of taking another step making his anxiety rise up like a three-headed beast inside him. Sweat formed in delicate beads on his forehead, taking their time to make their way down his brow. His teeth threatening to crush each other to enameled powder, he cocked his head back and signaled to the medic with the lousy temper.

The man sighed, his gait and stance betraying his frustration and annoyance.

“What is it?” he asked, his voice dulled through the crackle of speaker, yet his sharp tongue doing its job.

“You got a muscle relaxer, Sergeant? Think I messed up the neural cuff in my leg during the drop. Can't move the quad without feeling like I'm gonna—pass out.” His voice was shaky, his manner gruff as he pulled the words from his throat. The medic, Karash, snorted.

“Can't even fall without screwing up?” The question was meant to cut into him. It did not. “Pop the boot off, let's see what's wrong.” Hark shook his head.

“I've got a better idea,” he said, pulling a slate from his pouch on his belt, and punching on it rapidly, pain radiating up through his leg, contracting his diaphragm, making his head throb. As the program ran, he passed the handheld to Karash. “Diagnostic. Interfaces with the neural cuff.” The Sergeant made a noise in his throat. Disdain. A low chime emanated from the slate, the diagnostic program complete.

“Looks like you've got malfunctions in your A16 through A25 links, your C24, and your F33. Nothing we can do about realigning it right now. It seems to be that your nerves are being stimulated by the malfunction.” He reached into his kit, pulling out two pills. “The oval is an oral Myoplexaril. It should do well to loosen up the muscle. The second's a painkiller. You should be OK for the next few hours. Now, pop off the boot anyhow and move your leg, just so I can see you won't slow us down.” Hark sighed, bracing himself against one of the few support posts in the contained space, reaching up and releasing the seals on his helmet. His auburn hair, close cropped, thick and wirey, brushed against the helmet as he set it down carefully, dry swallowing the medicine.

He reached down, bracing his weight against the post and undoing the armor surrounding his leg efficiently. SCOPE armor was different for troopers with missing limbs; while it could slide on and off like a “normal” trooper's armor, it was often easier to disassemble the boot in sections, a practice that, while in Basic, Decius Hark had mastered. Piece by piece came off, setting them on the ground neatly yet quickly. In under a minute, the reminder of Hark's inner shame.

The leg itself was beautiful, having been donated by one of the wealthy patrons of his family after the last war. The low light sparkled off of the glitter inset into the burnished silver-grey of the limb, shaped to the exact proportions of his other, intact leg, the unmoving, cold-to-touch metal fashioned to look like skin and muscle tone where there was none. It was an illusion that Hark had tired of quite quickly. The foot was his favorite part, the sole unwrinkled and patrician, sweeping forward, five digits slimming quickly, ending in sharp, cruel points.

The knee was troublesome, his leg having had to been amputated above it, the joint circular in design, and capable of a range of motion that his other leg was unable to duplicate, which made learning its function very difficult for Hark. Or perhaps for anyone else, to be fair.

“Circles...now the letters of the alphabet,” the medic went through all the orthopedic diagnostics, and as the muscle unknotted, Hark was able to comply easier.

“We done?” Hark's voice was low, but the edge eased out of it. Karash nodded, and Hark bent over to reassemble the armor, his motions stiff and efficient. As he worked, the medic's voice crackled through the speakers.

“How'd you lose the leg?” Hark cocked his head up at the senior trooper, eyebrow raised.

“That your idea of 'bedside manner'?” Hark's voice was harsh, like a wire made of razor cutting through the air. “Ask me again later. It's a long story, and I don't like telling it more than once if I can help it.” As Hark finished, he pulled his helmet back over his head, securing it in place with a click and an inaudible hiss.

“Guess we should form up, eh, Sergeant?” Karash nodded, and they rejoined their squad.

“Well… that was interesting…” Mox said as he got up to look at the ship. Half of it was destroyed, slowly tipping over as one of the landing legs were ripped away in the blast. “What now?”

“I don’t fucking know…” Jae barked at him as she paced back and forth trying to figure out a plan.

The whole situation seemed useless. Mox was sure that the squad found no information on Forlax, and the shuttle could be rigged with more bombs. He secretly wished for the blast to be larger, to consume Heliwer in it, but he soon realised that Karash would also be killed in that blast, which would be a severe loss for the squad. Not only was Karash the only medic in the squad, but he could also be called what was the final evolution of the RAIDERS sub-humans. Mox was certain that sooner or later, if he stayed in the RAIDERS squad for too long he would become similar to Karash.

“So… did anyone got anything we could use to find Forlax?” Coadster said. Nobody moved or spoke, except for Karash and one of the new recruits “Great… just perfect”

Mox took out his datapad and tapped into the planet’s internet. Mox was certain that the HoloNet would have no info on the planet, for it was not widely known, sort of a back exit for people that were aware of it. The use of paper furthered that idea, making the planet seem less civilised than the planets that were using modern technology. Instead he was checking whether Forlax or anyone of any relation to him could be found on the information banks accessible online.

“It ain’t safe here. We must find a hiding spot…” Jae exclaimed as she began to walk away. The squad followed. “You two, come here. Tell me where could we hide and figure things out.” She continued as she pointed at the twins. They quickly walked up Jae, followed by Coadster.

The medic and the recruit stayed behind a little but soon caught up. Mox was certain that Heliwer would try to bully him somehow but he couldn’t care less, as usual throughout the last few weeks. He surfed through the planet’s connected databases, checking through the DataPads which were using the network. Most DataPad auto-connect to the HoloNet, through the planet’s internet... Mox thought to himself as he waited for the DataPad to display all of the connections in the city If I’m lucky Forlax’s datapad’s also connected.

They group exited the building and the twins led them through the alleys. They were bound to attract even more attention. It was surprising that they were not approached by any of the spaceport’s staff after the explosion, but Mox hoped that they would be able to remain as unnoticed as possible. Mox looked around him. He noticed that the buildings were getting older as they moved further on, and the surrounding more and more dirty. He wondered where were the twins leading them, but he couldn’t care less. We’re more than a match against anyone on this backwater planet…

Mox looked back at his DataPad and filtered the ready results into the ones with a password lock. He was sure that the man who held most of the Vast Empire classified secrets would have his DataPad protected. Surprisingly the search only returned a dozen of results. He quickly surfed through them, cracking some of the passwords after a few tries. But two of them were harder to crack.

“Interesting…” Mox muttered to himself. He was certain that one of them belonged to Forlax, but he knew that the owner of the other one must also be dangerous. Only custom coding could save itself from his first program and only criminals and nerds had custom coding. And he was certain that there were no nerds on this planet other than him and Jae.

“Here we are.” One of the twins said

“Where?” Heliwer asked

Mox looked up and saw a wall made of a weird-looking material. When he looked closer he noticed a rectangle carved out in it, which looked as if it was made with wood, with a metal stick coming out of it

“This is called a door. Did I tell you that this is one of the oldest districts in this planet?” Ulyssandra said as she pressed on the metal stick and pushed. The wooden rectangle went into the building with ease.

“Quickly, get in.”

“Well this is turning out to be another complete disaster, this must be the only squad in the entire army that manages to make a complete cock-up of everything that happens.” Karash blurted as they entered a seemingly ancient building.

“This is the only squad you have been in, isn’t it?” Coadster asked, looking for a reaction.

“You can all just shut up and keep your childish comments to yourself.” The medic slammed himself down on to what he hoped was a chair.

The squad was in a precarious position as they had not made any significant advances in finding their man, they had almost blown up a space port and in the process they had lost any chance of surprise that they had. Forlax would almost definitely know he was being hunted, he would probably make another run for it and if he did decide to stay, then the growingly weary squad would have one hell of a fight on their hands.

“If me and Jae can work this thing out then we will be able to get moving again.” Mox said in an almost sickly sweet optimistic nature.

“So you are telling me that our fate lies in your hands? Well, at least we can look forward to the bullet.” Karash hissed.

Mox stared at him, waiting for the end of the insult, “What bullet?”

“From the firing squad that we shall face because of your bloody incompetence!” The medic was regularly annoyed but he very rarely shouted.

As Karash’s eyes briefly glanced at each member of the squad he could see a variety of emotions; the twins were obviously worried, Heliwer was relishing seeing someone else argue with Mox, the two new ones were slightly bemused, Coadster was trying to figure out what to do and Jae looked like she was about to explode. The signs of an angry Jae were quite subtle but easy to notice if you knew her well enough, the heavy breathing was the start, animal like growls began to emanate from her and she turned a deep shade of red.

“And another thing. . .” Karash was ready to go in for the verbal kill were Mox was concerned.

“Enough!” The squad leader boomed. “We don’t need to hear you two bickering like a couple school girls, try and do something productive!” She growled as she spoke.

Usually Karash would stop once interrupted from his own thought trail however this time he just diverted his snide comments to Jae, “Me do something? What exactly have you done in terms of leadership lately accept grasp at whatever mind altering substance or death defying stunt you can pull?”

Unaccustomed at being spoken back to Jaenna was briefly taken aback.

“I’ll tell you what you have done, absolutely nothing. Why? Because unless it is convenient for number one you could not care less, you are bloody minded half the time and pig ignorant the other half. Any hope you had at leading a squad successfully is pissed away by your uncanny ability to not be able to separate real life and squad life.” After several heavy pants and growls from the medic he slammed himself back down into his seat, awaiting the SL’s response.

“Due to your prior service I am going to pretend to ignore those comments, though another outburst like that and I’ll have you in handcuffs before you know it.” Just about managing to keep her professional head on Jae twitched as she spoke. “And my personal life has frak all to do with you.”

“Nothing to do with me?” Karash spat his words, “I told you from day one that getting involved with that woman was going to end with a tear soaked corpse, but nobody ever listens to me.”

“I am warning you Sergeant!” She clenched her fist.

“Warn me all you like because I quit! If we manage to get of this rock, the first thing I am going to do is get transferred out of the squad; and what are all you bunch of layabouts, good for nothings and morons looking at!” Karash was visibly shaking.

It was rare for the RAIDERS to be silent and this was one of those rare occasions. You could have heard a pin drop as Jae, obviously still furious herself, ordered Mox to get back to work. The rest of the group stood there in a shocked silence, very few would have understood precisely what the argument had been about; if it had indeed been about anything. Though what was clear was that the ramifications would be huge for Karash.

As he sat thinking about what he had just said, he could not help but be filled with regret. She was a good squad leader and he had no right to comment on her personal life, what is more he should not have offered up his resignation. The RAIDERS were the only way of life he knew; he had never even been part of another squad. He never wanted to be part of another squad. However life always did have a funny way of putting things into perspective.

A single bolt flew through one of the windows and hit Karash in the back. Suddenly as he saw the rest of the squad jump into action, he could do nothing but fall to the ground in blissful agony. He took a deep breath inwards as he watched the squad fight off whatever enemy had come for them. Life always seemed better when looking up from the ground rather than staring down at it from a great height, even if that great height was nothing but a decrepit chair in a decrepit building.

Then it all went dark and all the anger and malice from the previous argument disappeared. Karash was happy, for the first time in months.

The dart made sharp sound as it penetrated Karash’s bodysuit and stopped in his flesh. Mox ran over to Karash as he was falling down, Dusk doing the same. While pushing the chair down he shouted out “Someone close whatever that thing is called!”. One of the recruits hurried to do so and while Mox carefully took out the poison dart out of Karash’s back, Dusk checked the pulse.

“He’s alive…” Dusk breathed out as he took out his gun and looked outside, through the closed window. “I think I know where the dart came from. If we’re fast enough we might catch him.”

Mox observed the dart closely and gestured Hark towards him. He knew that Jaenna was in no condition to be able to think straight, even less to recognise darts. As expected she reached out to her pocket but quickly remembered that she had no spice on her. So instead she started pacing back and forth, and you could feel the rage emanating off her. Mox, as relieved as he was back when Jaenna replaced Joamer, was now coming to the same conclusion as Karash. Their SL was constantly relying on spice to keep her mind straight and that should not run in the military. He didn’t mind it at first, being afraid that if Jae was removed Joamer would return but now, when she had no spice on her it was becoming obvious that she had no mentality of her own without the spice. So instead trying to interact with her in anyway, Mox decided to turn his future questions for orders to Coadster.

“What do you say?” Mox said as Hark approached him “Do you think this could be Forlax’s dart?”

The older man took the dart and observed it closely. After a short while he handed it back. “Definitively. This is a custom made dart, which I’ve seen a lot… before Vast Empire.”

“Good man.” Mox took the dart and put it in his pocket “Coads, what do you say? I think me and Dusk could go on our own. You know what RAIDERS are capable off, even if they’re split up.”

Coadster looked at the young man, the helmet concealing any emotion or thinking process the ASL could go through. “Very well. Keep up notified of any findings.” His tone was serious and it was obvious, even in the helmet that he was looking at Karash.

Mox tapped Dusk and approached the doorway. He looked at Jae who was staring out the window, visibly shaking, probably out of fury but perhaps also because of the withdrawal effects were taking control. After that he pressed on what the twins called a handle and exited the building.

Mox closed all connections on his Datapad, but saved beforehand to know where he left off. He could not allow Forlax to use the same tactic to get to Mox’s Datapad. After that he hid the Datapad in his pocket and took out the old mutli-rifle. Following Dusk they ran, opening all sorts of wooden rectangles, trying to get to the building where the shooter could’ve been hiding. When they reached it they pushed themselves against the sides of the ‘door’. Dusk counted to three and Mox kicked the door open. Dusk entered and Mox closely followed. Dusk pointed upwards and Mox nodded. They quickly but carefully went up the stairs and there he was. A man, lying down, with a rifle laying down on the side of a window next to him.

“What the frak…” Mox muttered to himself. As they approached the man they’ve noticed he had tons of bubbles coming out of his mouth. “Damn… a suicide pill…”

Dusk walked up to the man and checked his pulse. Assuring himself he spoke into the com.

“I think we found our assassin...”

“And?” Coadster asked, impatience in his voice. Mox was surprised to hear this, as only a few times was Coadster actually serious. “What’s going on?”

“The man committed suicide. He must’ve done it when we came into the building.” Dusk said. Mox knew that all of them were disappointed. “We will make our way back…”

“Don’t. Check the man, he may have some information on him.” Coadster commanded. Mox crouched down next to Dusk and they started checking the man’s clothes for any notes or Datapads. Mox found a pouch of darts and as he took one out, he also took the one that was shot at Karash. They were identical.

“That’s definitively our shooter… The darts I found on him are identical.” Mox said into his ComLink. “By the way, how is Karash holding up?”

“He seems to be ok.” Mox could hear the change in Coadster’s voice.  “We applied a medpac to him, but otherwise can’t do anything else.”

Mox found the man’s Datapad, and connected it to his own. He quickly accessed the shooter’s files which confirmed him being sent by Forlax. “There we go. Unless this is a bait or a trap we have the location where Forlax’ve been recently.” Recently communicated as well… but no open ports to the man himself. He must know how to protect himself.

“We’ll wait here until Karash regains consciousness.” Coadster commanded “You two check the man over, take anything you consider usefull to our mission and return. Coadster out.”

This must be a trap. There is no way for us to find him this easily… Mox thought as he continued to search the shooter.

The rant at Jaenna by Karash was certainly surprising to the oldest trooper in bunch, and when the medic was rendered unconscious by that dart, Heliwer couldn’t help but exhale a nice breath of calmness. At least now the medic would be able to have a bit of peace and quiet for a while. Mox and Dusk went tearing off to locate the shooter and anything of note within the building, continuing to not know about doors, more specifically what they were called, which made the senior sergeant chuckle. While they were gone, he sighed and decided to take it upon himself to try and cool things down a bit in the room. First on the list was the squad leader, who was seemingly frantically pacing back and forth, obviously in need of spice, but it looked like she had none on her. With a quick flick of the wrist, he had a cigarette out and in his hand. “Hey, Jae.” He called. The woman turned to him swiftly. “I know it ain’t your special brand, but maybe thinking it is might help. Either way, can’t kill ya to have a smoke.”

The squad leader took the cigarette gladly and lit it up, taking a nice deep smoke. It seemed to calm her down a little bit at least, and he pulled out a few more before handing her the rest of the pack. “Don’t worry. I got a couple more on me.”

Next came the girls. They looked a bit shocked at the explosion of emotions that came from the unconscious medic and Jaenna, so Heliwer handed them both a smoke each. “Are you guys always like this?” Ulyssandra asked. “At each other’s throats? Getting involved with each other’s personal lives?”

“Well, we ain’t called the Crazy RAIDERS for nothing.” He chuckled. “Naw, doesn’t really happen all that much. We tend to focus on whatever bugs us at that moment in time, whether it be my smoking ‘n drinking addictions, or Mox’s incompetence. Usually the latter.”

Eventually, he got that cigarette in his mouth, but of course not before taking a swig from his flask of liquor. No sooner had he begun to light the end of it did Mox’s annoying voice came over the comms.

“I think we found our assassin...”

“And?” Coadster asked impatiently. “What’s going on?”

“The man committed suicide. He must’ve done it when we came into the building.” Dusk’s voice replied. “We will make our way back…”

“Don’t. Check the man, he may have some information on him.”
After a few moments, the private came back on air. “That’s definitively our shooter… The darts I found on him are identical. By the way, how is Karash holding up?”

Heliwer looked over at the medic, who visibly had the wound covered and well-sealed by the assistant squad leader.

“He seems to be ok.” Coadster replied, looking down at the injured trooper.  “We applied a medpac to him, but otherwise can’t do anything else. We’ll wait here until Karash regains consciousness. You two check the man over, take anything you consider useful to our mission, and return. Coadster out.”

The big trooper naturally readied his blaster rifle before sitting down on the floor cross legged. “Something smells here. Other than my alcohol breath, that is.” He muttered just loud enough for the sergeant next to him to be able to hear. “Riggin’ that ship to explode, sniping one of us with an assassin who took out himself so we have no leads. It’s starting to feel more an’ more like a trap. I hope it is so I can blast some guys to oblivion, cause my trigger finger’s getting itchy for some action.”

“Well, maybe you’ll get your wish. I’m getting the same feelings here, and I bet everyone else is.” Coadster spoke up. “Hey, I think Mox and Dusk are back.”

“We’ll wait here until Karash regains consciousness.” Coadster ordered “You two check the man over, take anything you consider useful to our mission and return. Coadster out.”

"Ok," Dusk said with a sigh. "You check around down stairs for anything and I'll poke around up here."
"Alright." Mox said heading down.

The trooper went back to the body and checked all his pockets again. In his breast pocket he had a small, locked, wooden box. Dusk lifted it to his nose and smelled it. The distinct smell of tobacco emanated from it; pulling out his sonic he tried to unlock it. 'Frak, I forgot it doesn't work on wood.' The man thought to himself. He decided to break the lock. Opening it reviled five fat cigars. Thinking Heli might like them, he put them in a pouch on his belt.

Quickly rummaging around the room, to find nothing, he went down stairs to Mox, who had similar results. They left and started back towards the rest of the squad.

"So you think he'll really do it?" Dusk asked.
"What?" Mox replied quizzically.
"Karash, Do you think he'll quit?"
"I don't know. It would really hurt the squad if he did."
"Yeah," Dusk said not wanting to end the conversation "What other insane medic would replace him?" They both chuckled.

They returned with almost nothing to show their higher-ups. Dusk went over to Heliwer and sat down next to him. "Brought ya' something." Dusk said.
"Hmm?" The large trooper inquired.

Pulling out the cigars, he handed them to the other man. "Found 'em on the assassin. Didn't think he would mind." Heli chuckled as he lit one of his new cigars.

Mox shook his head as Dusk passed the looted cigars to Heliwer. They didn’t know if they weren’t filled with some obnoxious substance. If it was spice, Heliwer would get high, but Jaenna would return to full ability. But if they were filled with poison, Heliwer might’ve die, if Karash didn’t wake up. Of course Mox enjoyed the idea of Heliwer dying, out of his unhealthy habit, but he knew that it was highly unlikely for the cigars to be a from-the-grave weapon of the assassin.

“Coadster, I think the assassin had one of the possible locations of his Datapad.” Mox said as he walked up to Coadster and showed him the datapad. “If me or Jaenna cross check it with the Datapads I singled out, we might get lucky. Regardless, I think we should go see the area as soon as Karash wakes up.”

“Maybe… for now cross check the Datapads. See what else you can learn.” Coadster ordered.

The squad waited in anticipation. Jaenna – little bit more in control of herself – and Mox attempted to get location of the Datapads Mox found; Dusk, being a Field Medic trainee, attempted to help Karash, Coadster supporting him; Heliwer and the twins secured the doors making sure no-one could get in; the recruits were looking out the windows, looking for potential threats. Mox tried to get the locations of the Datapads but he found it difficult to do anything with them. He knew it would’ve been easier if he actually conneted to the Datapad through a Call or something similar, but Forlax would immediately realise that the RAIDERS got hold of the Datapad. Instead he now tried to match the Datapad signature, that every single computer sent out if it was connected to a network. The Assassin’s Datapad had the signature of Forlax’s – or whoever sent him – as he was communicating with him. He compared one of the Datapads and found that there was no match. But the second Datapad matched the signature from the assassin’s one perfectly.

“Jae, we got him. What we would need now is to crack this datapad,” Mox said as he pointed at the one he was referring to “but without him noticing…”

“I know, Mox…. I know.” Jaenna said, her forhead covered with sweat drops. It was apparent that she was still angry and that the smoke she received from Heliwer only helped a little bit. “Let’s get to it, if we manage to get his precise co-ords we will be able to finally reach him… and end this mission.”

The two slicers sat down with their Datapads in their hands, sharing the assassin’s Datapad as needed.

After a long moment, which lasted several minutes, Hark signalled the squad on the ComLink. “A group of men is approaching. They got their guns out...”

Coadster and Dusk got up and took out their rifles. “How armoured and armed are they?”

“Pretty lightly armed, but they seem to have heavy armour on. I think they’re mercenaries.” Hark reported

“Very well. I’m not sure how did they find us in the first place, but it doesn’t matter.” Jaenna said as she got up, put away her Datapad and took out her rifle “Everyone, take defensive positions.”

The squad quickly secured all of the possible entries, trying to be invisible from outside, but being able to see what’s going on. Hark was ordered to stay topside to make sure that no reinforcements were coming. Those that were left out prepared defences in the room where Karash was located.

“There is three of them, I think.” Hark said as the mercenaries approached. “Yep, definitively.”

“They’re underestimating us…” Heliwer said as he tightened his grip on his rifle.

Mox rolled his eyes at Heliwer, as he glanced outside of the window. “Hark, which way are they coming from?”

“They’re coming here!” Lam answered instead.

“The mercenaries?”

“Yep, all of three of them. Some backup would be appreciated, guys…”

“Get over here, both of you, we have to cover Karash until he wakes up!” Coadster nearly shouted through the ComLink

The two recruits quickly found themselves in the bigger room where the squad allocated itself. Karash was hidden away behind a table, and Dusk was ordered to watch over him. Rest of the troopers took cover behind various defences few of the RAIDERS assembled. Soon enough the kicking of a door could be heard and heavy steps echoed through the abandoned building. Mox was certain that if they were indeed lightly armed it isn’t going to be hard to overcome them. Best defence is a good offense… The private thought to himself as he changed his attachments from the blaster one to the anti-armoured one. He knew that there was only few type of armour could withstand explosives, and Mox had quite of pouch of the anti-armour inserts. Looking around he noticed that few of other troopers thought the same, holding a grenade in one hand, rifle in the other.

“Bring it on…” Mox muttered as they waited.

OOC:
It might be confusing but keep reading.

It was dark. Dark and noisy. Dark, noisy and uncomfortable. Karash was contented to be where he was, with the RAIDERS, he knew they were a reliable and strong group of people. If there was any danger or adventure to be had they would the first on the scene and they would get it done to the best of their ability. Karash felt as though his optimism and excitement was about to explode out of him, though he knew this was the same for every young Private; all the others were exactly the same. He was the most senior of the new recruits; in some ways this meant he was senior to them and therefore responsible for them. It was going to be a good mission, Kalee was full of promise.

‘Why are you on the floor? You had better get up.’

The noise was so loud. Grahim had been with the squad a little while now but was proving to be a bit of liability, though not much else was expected from a Gungan, but Karash still found himself liking the amphibian. Jaenna had also been with the squad for a short but explosive time but it was impossible to doubt her skill. The newest of the group was Havock but she had let to reveal her true nature; in Karash’s opinion she looked like she was going to be a handful. Ron had recently been made the Squad Leader but there was no doubting his authority, Karash respected authority and he planned to be as supportive as he could.

‘Get up.’

The noise was starting to die down but it was still so dark and there was a sharp pain emanating from the Private’s legs. Since first joinging the Army a few months ago Karash had undergone basic training and basic first aid training. He knew very little about being a medic, in actual fact he desperately hoped that no one would get injured because he would not have a clue how to help them. For many the army would be a career, for Karash it was just an escape from an uncomfortable home life. Though he would never admit it, he wished to find some friends because he had never really had a friend before; all he had was a dead mother, a missing brother and an abusive father. The army would be a new home, somewhere relatively safe and happy. Karash was the eternal optimist.

It was a struggle to open his eyes; it felt as though he had been sleeping for months. The dim lighting of the room burned Karash’s eyes as they slowly opened, he could fell that he was surrounded by his squad and put his arms out to be helped up. It turned out this legs were in an even worse state than his eyes; he faltered slightly as he got up but was supported by his squad mates. After a few moments wobbling like a new born finding its feet, Karash rubbed his eyes and was greeted by a group of unknown faces all wearing RAIDERS armour.

“What the hell is going on? Where is my squad?” Karash asked earnestly.

“Karash it is us.” An unknown voice spoke.

“No. Where are the RAIDERS? Where is my squad?” His tone was becoming more desperate.

“Karash, it is us” The same strange voice spoke but it did not provide any answers.

“Where is Ron? Gaz and Rogue? Grahim and Havock and. . . and Jae?” Karash tried to reach for a weapon but found nothing.

The Private’s eyes were met with a slightly bemused looking Jae, she looked as though she was going to speak but was interrupted.

“Jae, what is happening, where is everybody, did something happen when we was landing on Kalee?” Karash pushed past the others and asked his fellow RAIDER.

“Oh great. Now we got a deranged medic in the squad.” A slightly more gruff voice spoke this time, it sounded distantly familiar and smelled of distinctly smoky.

“We don’t have time for this now. Karash this is the RAIDERS squad, you were shot with something. I cannot explain everything now. Just pull yourself together.

“But we were on Kalee and Ron was the new SL and. . .” Karash frantically tried to remember what had happened, he could not remember being shot and he did not know the people he was with.

“Listen to me. You are Senior Sergeant Karash, this is RAIDERS squad and you are its longest serving member as well as its medic. Is that understood Sergeant?” Jaenna spoke with a tone of authority that sounded familiar.

“Err, yes, right.” He was not convinced, this must be a dream.

How could this be the RAIDERS? What did that trooper mean deranged? They were just two of the questions that he wanted answered but there was apparently no time. From the smell in the air, apart from the familiar smoke, there had obviously been a gun fight. They were in some way in danger and that was most certainly a known feeling; the whole situation was so bewildering that he just wanted to go back onto the floor and return to the comfortable darkness where the world was as it should be. The faces of his supposed squad mates were bizarre, there was not an amphibian within sight, but there was some feeling stirring in Karash’s mind as though there was something he could not remember.

‘No. You don’t know them. This is wrong. This is wrong. . .’

“We got to get moving again, here is what we are going to do. . .” Jae was interrupted.

“You are in charge!” Karash blurted out.

The group shifted uncertainly as the apparent SL continued to speak. Apparently they had to move and find someone called Forlax.

OOC:
Let's do the Time Warp again! I know, another 'I lost my memory story' but who knows perhaps Karash will turn out to be a lovely optimist this time or he might be exactly the same. . .
