Welcome to the VEN, Caldaris! I see you came by way of my post on reddit, and for that, I thank you. We really need members, you see, and it makes me feel better that there is hope.
A trainer should be with you shortly to start you on your training. I hope you have a wonderful time here!

Welcome, new Crewman, to the Vast Empire Naval Academy! By posting here, you're one step closer to joining us in our ranks. If you'll allow me to introduce myself, I am Chief Petty Officer Echelon. As your training officer, I'll lead you through the courses here at VENA. You'll begin by completing the Basic Training course. Please proceed here, and read the section. When you're done Basic Training, proceed to your first chapter of Flight School, here, and create a bio for your Vast Empire character. Remember, you should have it in 3rd person (he, she, it) and in past tense (ran, shot, exploded). Once your bio is complete, post it here for reviewing, and then we can move on to Chapter 2 of Flight Schooll! If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or rants, feel free to contact any of us here at VENA. The fastest way to get help would to get on the #VENA IRC channel and ask there (I'm usually on). Otherwise, you can Private Message us, or just simply post here. Remember, the wiki has all sorts of information, and you're welcome to look at other people's works (just don't plagiarize or copy). Utterly, Training Officer Echelon

Thanks for the timely response. Here's my bio! Let me know if there's anything I need to change! BiographySpecies: Human Native Language: Basic Gender: Male Skin Color: White Height: 5,11 weight: 70kg Hair Color: Dirty Blonde Hair Style: Swooped Back Facial Hair: Goatee Eye Color: Light Blue Scars: Scar Enveloping Most of Left Arm Tattoos: None Physical DescriptionCaldaris is of average height and is generally attractive, despite being a little rough around the egdes. His hair is always just ever so slightly unkempt and, even in the nicest clothes, he manages to ruffle them up a bit. He has a goatee that flares out from beneath his lower lip and proceeds wildly down to his chin. His eyes are an extremely light blue and quite often shine with optimism. PersonalityAlways one to see the best of a bad situation, Caldaris believes in going with the flow. He generally carries a playful expression, although he grows quite serious when the need arises. He loves to joke around and tends to use this habit to avoid talking about himself. He is, however, fiercely loyal and extremely respectful of others, especially his superiors. He wants to make something of his life and he wants to do it the right way. Personal HistoryCaldaris, grew up with a single parent, his mother Sendii. They scraped by on what work his mother could find, living in a hovel on Palanhi and often commuting to the Bilbringi system so that she could work on the Imperial ships being built there. With no other parent to take care of him, Caldaris would often need to go with her to the shipyards. He would watch his mother secure bolts and fuse wiring for the new additions to the Imperial fleet. With more than enough free time, he quickly developed an interest in engineering and would experiment with spare parts he could find around the work docks. When Caldaris turned 11, his birthday present was a run-down class five repair droid. His mother had been saving for years. Over the next few years he continued to learn about how starships worked and eventually got a part-time job in the Bilbringi shipyards as a transport pilot. When he wasn't delivering components he would pass the time by fiddling with his shuttle's internals or even sneaking out for joy rides around the shipyard. At this point the Rebels had destroyed the Emperor's Death Star over Yavin IV and the Imperial presence in the Bilbringi shipyards was quickly dying out, leaving little work to be done. Caldaris's mother stopped getting regular work and he moved back to Palanhi to be with her. Out of work and with virtually no money, Caldaris entered the world of underground swoop racing and began betting on himself in the races. He was a natural swoop pilot because of all the practice he had from Bilbringi and managed to support himself and his mother for a long time doing this. Once a year, questionable figures from all over Palanhi would gather for the Fakir 10-9-4 Rally, a huge swoop race where all the best pilots on the planet would compete for a huge winner's pot. When Cal turned 20, he confidently entered himself into the event, betting most of what he and his mother had on himself. On the final lap of the race, Cal was in second place and executed a desperate move to pull ahead, attempting to jump a large chasm. He barely made it and the front-left control vane of his swoop broke off and sent him into a violent spin. He was thrown off and most of the skin and muscle on his left arm was torn apart, breaking his fall. Now completely poor and extremely injured, Caldaris was filled with shame. His mother was understanding, though, and told him that she was proud that he had the courage to risk so much for her. Once his left arm had moderately recovered, Caldaris realized that he needed to find a more stable way to provide for his family. Some of the local swoop pilots had disappeared over the last few years, apparently having joined up with the Vast Empire faction, based directly rimward of Palanhi. Caldaris talked to a friend and within a month he had applied to be a starfighter pilot for the Vast Empire Navy. With a final goodbye to his mother, he promised that things would get better. For both of them. Good wiki page and bio. However, your ID line isn't complete. It should read something like mine, where you have the squadron, fleet, etc. Despite that, I'll pass you. Most trainees don't get it correct the first time, but make sure it is right when we place you in a squadron.
Good job! You're clear to pass to Chapter 2 and complete the assignment.

Sorry, I thought I wasn't in a flight/squadron, yet. Umm, ok. Having read that section again I'm about to fix the ID line in my post and signature.
EDIT: I don't have a Flight Designation yet, correct?

No problem with the delay, we'll always be here. Your post's writing is good. It adds enough description whilst keeping the reader in the action. It is a good post, and it will be sufficient. The only problem I see is that you should have had more action. Your simulation only starts half-way down the post, but as previously mentioned, it is a awesome post. You're clear to move onto Chapter 3. Great job, Crewman.

Thanks, I'll get going on the next chapter. And you're right, I kinda skipped through the action pretty quickly, which was the focus of the thread. I'll try to add more in future posts.

Sorry but I can't figure out who I send my first weekly report to, since I'm not in a squadron. Also, since the deadline was an hour and a half ago for the week, should I wait to send it or just send it off immediately so I can be placed?

The report goes to me, as nominal commander of the training squadron, and to your training officer (Echelon), via PM. But we also like trainees to post a copy here, to serve as an example for folks who join later and explore the forums. And go ahead and submit your report asap, Crewman.

Thank you, sir! Here is a copy of the report I am about to send. Caldaris’s Report: (5/10/2012)Activity:This week I went through Flight School, adding my character's page to the wiki and submitting a post to the training mission (Raptor: Disaster!). I also read a good amount of some other VE wiki content, such as the timeline. Upcoming plans:I look forward to joining a squadron and becoming an active member of the community. I'm going to try to get a good feel for how everything runs around here over the next week so I can be an effective contributor of the VEN. Questions/Suggestions:None at the moment. You've been placed as Gamma Two in Tuk'ata, Leading Crewman. Congratulations on joining the Navy's active duty fighter pilots! Check in with your squadron on their ComNet discussion thread, and feel free to join the Navy's current run-on, Out of the Invisible. There are plenty of awards still up for grabs, even though you'll be jumping in to a story already underway! Welcome!
