I try not to get "political" on the VE. But we're Star Wars fans, and we're gamers, so this seems germane.
And also, on a related note, it's been argued that homophobic and/or sexist slurs are "part of the gaming culture." My rebuttal: the "culture" of MMOs is whatever we as players decide to make it. So the next time you're going on a raid in WoW or TOR, make the decision not to accept hate speech. Don't call your vanquished foes "fags" as you desecrate the fallen bodies of their avatars with your own digital stand-in, and don't hurl the insult "bitch" at anyone for any reason. And don't let such remarks pass unchallenged, even when they come from someone you like or respect.
This is not about being politically correct. It's not about being political. It's about right and wrong.
