On todays date in 1941, the American naval base at Oahu, Hawaii, was suddenly attacked by the naval and air forces of the Imperial Japanese military. I came into school today with mock anticipation to see how many students will recognize and honor this day. I told my helper who carries my crutches into school that the flag outside needs to be at half mast. Took her a while but she got what day it was. Other than me, the only other people expected to know todays date are the teachers, history teachers mostly.
I may be a pommie/limey/brit, but I have lived in the states for most of my life. The important dates of D-Day and Pearl Harbor have always been days of rememberance for me. I usually watch history channel all day to catch specials about the days andmight even watch a movie or two.
I hope that today, December 7th, a date that should live in infamy, does not go unnoticed by many of my fellow VE bretherin.
And I apologize if I may have offended anybody with my rant about how unless it is fir a test or their grandparemts were involved, students don't think it necessary to remember today.
