Wordpress Pros & Cons

Just wanna hear here what some of your thoughts are?
Kad? Raz?

I've heard from an experianced social media manager that Wordp, easy to acess, etc, etc

But then I heard from my father an experianced software developer complaining that it lags and also is a Big Brother of some sorts.

Anycase, bin googling around, but alot of the opinions are people running blog sort of websites, no technicalities listed about it.

So just from your point of view, is it worth building a website on Wordpress or not? and why?

We use WordPress quite a bit for different websites. It makes it easy to create a site and have anyone update it with content that isn't necessarily technically inclined.

It really comes down to what you need to be able to do for the website. Would you need some sort of CMS that allows you to easily update and add content to the site? Or would you rather build each page by hand and try to keep it updated that way?

There are a lot of other CMSs out there besides WP. But WP is probably one of the easier ones to use as well as has a lot of functionality built in already. And if the functionality isn't already built in, you will most likely be able to find it as a plugin (most of which are free).

The website Im building will prolly be taken over in a couple of months by other people, so I was thinking WP is a pretty standard thing to hand over, no confusion and sustainibility is better secured.
But I've heard that it can lag potentially?

A huge portion of our target market will prolly be in poorer communities with limited internet acces through dail-up, or their phone.

Unless the site is getting a lot of traffic, I wouldn't worry about any lag or slow processing. This will be minimal in the overall experience anyways.

There are plugins in WP that can be used to help speed it up as well that provide caching and content delivery network (CDN) support. One that is good is called 'W3 Total Cache' which uses caching as well as has an option to store images and other files on the Amazon s3 storage for delivery with the website. However, Amazon s3 is not free; but the caching support is through the plugin.

Also, if the blog is on a decent server, then it shouldn't be too slow either.
