I, for one, can see the logic in it(whether I agree or not is an entirely different post
).
And, I've got a few things to add to it
For one, the Empire can be compared to the British Empire of colonial times. This empire, though opposed(unlike the SW Empire), rose to massive heights of power through intense repression of all others who served under it. Do we, today, consider this evil? We consider it to be wrong, certainly, but not evil.
This is because it was an established government, one that had taken on and defeated the other. Therefore, Darwinism insisted that it was better. In this way, we can derive a literal comparison of the Empire to an RL Empire.
