A friend is taking me to climb Half Dome in Yosemite for my birthday. It was a surprise. I apologize, but that's once-in-a-lifetime stuff, so I'll be on leave until Sunday. Task Force Besh, you have your orders, and remember the story ends tomorrow! Bye!

That was pretty great. I'm back. Hiked 14+ miles, from the Yosemite Valley floor up 5,000 feet to the top of Half Dome and around and back, in about 11 hours. And then the next day hiked Devil's Postpile/Rainbow Falls outside the park AND saw the Mono Lake tufas, and then the next day hiked Hetch Hetchy. It was superlative, and sufficiently hardcore that I suspect I'll be in bed for a couple of days... in other words, I'm primed for VE activity. Okay, I'll be back in force the tail end of this week, before my actual birthday (especially covering the Academy), and then there will likely be a couple of days of debauchery where fine motor skills (like typing) will be temporarily lost. So, Tuesday to Friday morning or so, I'm yours again, VE.

Things keep popping up, it seems.
Okay, an update: my housemate is suddenly moving out to pursue a job, and so I need to somehow find someone to take his room before the 1st. That, combined with my birthday on Friday make me a bit more busy than I'd like. 8 days. Drat. Okay, hadn't really thought of that time span yet.
Moving on: I know Ellesmere is going on leave this weekend, and I offered to cover the Academy in her absence. So, I'm going to be around, especially minding the VENA stuff (and I should have a story post up by midday tomorrow as well), but I'll be in and out, so if y'all could just be nice to the new recruits and keep 'em talking, I may not be as blindingly fast in responding to their initial "hello"s as I am usually.
