2.  Kazack: for now you're still on the McElroy.  Once you work in those changes I was talking about, we'll get you aboard one of the other Wardens... maybe the Courage.

Any other folks who are interested in the program, feel free to PM me, Atrasin, or Slasher, and we'll get you cleared to start (and then, we'll communicate via this lovely thread)!

And, just because it bears repeating: becoming a SCAP doesn't mean losing the role-playing or collaboration aspects of the VE, it actually means you make those aspects even more fun than they already are (for you, and for everyone else in the Navy who gets to write with you), by challenging yourself to grow as a writer.

i'm avoiding using those ships for training purposes. once we get them filled, we'd not have that luxury...so, might as well have a fleet of 'em.

As Atrasin said, Beliam, the Duty will be waiting for you at Capp Station. 

And, Beliam: one thing about the program is that most of its steps ("Sections") require candidates to write a story post for the program AND a story post for whatever his/her current assignment is, to help get them used to writing a lot, and on diverse subjects...  Since right now your assignment is simply training on the Duty, you have a bit more choice: one post per Section of the program still has to be SCTP stuff on the Duty, but the other you may choose to write as a guest NPC on any active story (go ahead and ask the ranking officer in the story for permission, though, before you start contributing).  Hope that's clear: since you don't have a position right now outside of training to be a SCAP, you get to choose how to fulfill that second, non-program post requirement, is all I'm saying. 

All that is unless a bigger fish overrules me, of course.  Or a bigger cyborg. 

Clarification:
@Anden - please post ONLY as an NPC. your character is in training and would not see action for quite some time...unless we experienced a dire situation.

Okay, Anden, nice work.  You're clear to begin Section II, but I have a couple suggestions for improving your next round of posts; those notes will be in your PM inbox shortly.  The only other thing is: from here on out during your time in the Program, please also post links to the wiki work you do for your NPC crewmembers - I know wiki isn't everyone's favorite tool as a writer, but in a collaborative storytelling environment, it's really useful for other members to have a quick way to reference "your" stable of characters, to keep things consistent.

Another reminder, folks: the entire Navy needs to send reports to Atrasin every week, under the new system.  If you don't, demotions are in your future - that's a Navy policy, and while I'm a softie in general, I'll enforce policy.

Also, how are we all doing?  There are four of you... I expect some posting!    As a SCAP, your schedule will be largely of your own determining, but for now, I'm looking to see that you can handle high activity... so, uh, show me some high activity.

Okay, SCTP folks, a reminder:

I'm officially on leave from the VE for this week... except in my capacity as Fleet Training Officer.

Why should you care?  Well, midshipmen, that means for the first time since we started our little adventure I have nothing else on the ComNet to distract me from reading your awesome posts for the program, nor from moving you forward toward commanding your own vessels - or, alternatively, it means there's no longer anything hereabouts to keep me from noticing when you aren't posting.

Right now, I'm noticing a pretty low level of activity from you folks, overall, and I'm consequently... dissatisfied.  Irked, you might say.  Most of you have gotten to know me at least a bit, and you know I'm a pretty easy-going guy, so hopefully the mere mention of my slowly-growing ire will be enough to get your attention: bottom line, you all need to pick it up if you want to be capital ship captains.  SCAPs are going to be the lifeblood of Fleet Command, once it's populated, and given the interest from some of the new folks, it will be populated soon.  Ship Captains as conceived are roughly analogous to Squadron Commanding Officers in the Starfighter Corps, in that they are club leaders OOC, responsible for generating quality stories that will be incorporated into club canon; there are differences between the two positions, of course, but my point is that SCAPs have much more control within the club than flight members or junior officers, and therefore much more responsibility - hopefuls for the position have to prove themselves worthy to wield that power, and capable of honoring that responsibility.

Now, this isn't to say that you need to be posting every day, especially once you assume command (in fact, capital ship captains will likely have greater flexibility than Squadron COs in when and how they post, for example), but it DOES mean that while you're training, you have to convince me (and the brass) that you're CAPABLE of posting high quality, lengthy posts with some consistency and frequency.  Because if you simply can't do that, ever, then you're not right for the position.

So, yeah: show me what you can do.  I know some of you have stuff going on in RL right now, and as I've said, I'm an understanding guy, or I try to be: RL comes first, as ever.  But if you don't give me formal notification that you have to go out on leave, then I have to assume you either don't care enough to post, or that 1,500 words or so per week (lasting only the month or so that this program should take to complete) is somehow too much for you to handle.  If either of those is true, and you can't manage two posts a week for four or five weeks (with leave granted whenever during that span, requiring only a message with a reason for it to be granted), then I won't judge you or think less of you, but I will do my job, and recommend against granting you the SCAP position.

Assignments:

1.  Anden Beliam - I know you have some major RL things to take care of, so you can largely disregard this post.  Although I would appreciate hearing from you, just to make sure you're okay. 
2.  Kazack - I want to see more, Kazack.  Show me you can do this - you were tapped for this program for a reason.    I know you've been posting, but I want to see you get into the details of what makes naval officers interesting as characters and professionals.
3.  Ellesmere - Roster says you're in the program.  Are you?  If so, let's do this.  Start the first section, and update me as you progress.
4.  Amacuse - You've had your doubts, Amacuse, and you said you wanted this.  If there's a problem, talk to me, and we'll work it out, but let's get you moving on this.

Kazack, thanks for the prompt posting!  You have indeed finished all the necessary writing for Section I of the SCTP!  Congratulations!  To move on, simply post a link here in this thread to the wiki page you've made for your first crewmember NPC.  Then, you can start the next section.
