Only one of you will remember this rather poorly constructed post and more importantly, only one of you will remember why it holds any significance for me.
Quote:Raziel held tight and braced himself for the inevitable high G-force feeling.
he had never quite got used to the feeling of being dropped through a planets atmosphere.
well they were in need of reinforcement and he had finished on the SSD mustand and it was too dangerous for a shuttle right now.
the dropship shook momentarily before he heard the clamps disengaged.
He could not see anything from his restricting chair, but could feel the thrusters slowly manoeuvring the ship into position. the feeling started slowly, but he could feel his stomach tighten as the ship began its incredible drop. "eerrgghh" the sound forced itself through his lips as the ship reached full velocity. Then came the part when it felt like he had left his stomach behind as the ship quickly slowed from the high speed required to get the crew down safely. he realised that his knuckles were white and tried to loosen his grip on the harness. his whole body shook as they hit ground.
The doors slowly fell open and he had to turn away from the sun filtering in through the gap. the forms of 3 men took shape at the entry as he was released from his uncomfortable position.
"right you lot, out" barked one of the men.
Raziel and the other recruits hastened outside and stood to attention as best he could. disoriented from the drop and the new gravity this was harder than seemed.
he could not help but notice the smirks of a few soldiers off to one side, obviously amused by the stiff new soldiers in shining new uniform. looking at the others Raziel knew those would not last.
"Raziel" the sergeant called
"squad 3 over here, this'll be your current squad, Fury here'll be your commander"
he has heard that name before.
a broad man with dark hair and the look of a veteran soldier approached.
Raziel swallowed hard
"welcome to the Raiders" Fury grinned...
Perhaps I'm getting a bit sentimental in my old age, but that old comnet reminds me of a very different time in my life - and I just realised something reading it. No matter how old you are ten years is a long time and it's somewhat strange to have had something remain relatively consistent from my childhood run right into my adult life.
I've met some great people in my time here, going back to the beginning I've missed Argon Viper and Daishi, but am glad that Fury (as you can see my first squad leader) and Talon still around.
In my most recent foray into the world of the VE i've met too many good people to name, but the people are the reason I'm glad I came back.
So here's to having been a member for ten years (I joined some time in late february 01) I believe Fury, Talon and Kadann are now the only people left who joined earlier, so kudos to you guys for keeping the place in existance.
And for further nostalgia here is the first ever VE runon I started, a story which bridged both comnets:

"God does not play dice with the universe. He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e. everybody], to being involved in an obscure and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time." - Terry Pratchett
