The compound had some illumination which was almost blinding after being in the dark for so many days. Havock got her gear together, making sure she had some kind of holotaking device in case she wanted to bring back any photo's for later on to set up their attack strategy. She was under no delusion that they would have to eventually raid the compound, she wasn't sure how she knew that but it just seemed inevitable.

Now they were supposed to only be finding out what these guys were doing on the planet, and as per their arrangement with Ecinev, also find out if these idiots had anything to do with the disappearance of the shadowmen. Something about these mercs or maybe it was just the whole atmosphere of this mission screamed to her bones that there would be blaster fire before the day was over.

She glanced at her chrono, indeed it should have been day, nine in the morning Tadath time. Yet the sky was black as night, the stars themselves struggled to be seen against the cloak of blackness. She nodded to Aeos and started to creep towards the camp, then almost slid on some leaves as the older woman appeared at her side.

"You seriously are going to leave me here with Grahim and Karash? Punishing me will not get me to talk to you Ayme." Havock turned slightly to look at the three other troopers in their positions holding down their small ridge which offered only a slight tactical advantage if things went bad. Slight was better than none she supposed.

RK was talking quietly to Grahim while Karash stayed mostly off to himself away from the gungan. She couldn't hear what they were saying which meant they couldn't hear them either. "I'm going down there Ae, I'll be right back."

Aeos glanced down at the compound. "Why alone?"

"I need you here in case something happens." She made an exasperated sound and shifted her weight back down to the ground. "Dammit, woman. One minute you can't stand being near me the next you are all overprotective, make up your mind. You're going to make me crazy."

"I thought you were already crazy, Sergeant."

Havock sighed and watched as several sentry guards walked past the ships in front of her. The men pointed at the forest and complained as they muttered to each other. She slowly bumped her head rhythmically against the forest floor as she realized what Aeos was doing. She must have seen the sentries or something but she stalled Havock long enough to keep her from being caught. "You know, you could have just told me to hold on or wait, or look bad guys would have worked too."

Aeos was propped up on her elbow looking down at the compound. "Ayme I think sometimes you underestimate your level of stubbornness."

"Zasati, sometimes I think you like to torture me just to cure your boredom." Havock smirked at the piercing glare she got for using that particular name.

She managed to get about half way down the ridge when her comm crackled. "Havock, you're not wrong." She smiled and glanced back up into the darkness her goggles couldn't even penetrate. "The boys have our backs covered I'll keep an eye on your position from here, give you a heads up if I see anything."

"Copy Aeos."

The compound wasn't heavily guarded so to speak, although there were plenty of mercs walking about on there way to and from doing something. It looked like only the handful of sentry guards steadily patrolling were trained as guards, and even they seemed to be just on a rotation for that job. So that meant no trained soldiers to content with, not that mercs were without any fighting savvy, but the tactical advantage should go to them if they could remain undetected.

A large group of men and women exited one of the larger structures in the clearing. Havock jumped behind a truck of some sort that was parked next to the mechanics bay and quickly got on her stomach so she could watch their feet continue to their destination.

"Hav, watch your six."

She pushed off on her left hand and rolled under the vehicle quickly after hearing Aeos' voice in her ear. "Clear me to that large building, I want to see what's inside."

"Must you? Ugh fine, hold position." She could hear the irritation in the older woman's voice but she knew that despite everything Aeos would make sure she got back in one piece, or at least she would try to make sure she got back in almost one complete piece. "Clear."

Havock rolled to the other side of the vehicle and jogged over to the large building, she quickly spotted a dirty but mostly intact window and slid her body against the wall to position herself underneath it. She had to slide the goggles up to look through the window or be blinded by the light that was on within. The room was full of cages, the scene made her shudder and fall down to the ground in a shaking heap.

She was attacked by visions from her nightmares of similar rooms lined with cages, only that time she was an occupant not a visitor. Ayme closed her eyes trying to get a hold on her breathing, this was not the time for this crap she needed to get control of herself. She shook her head, later, deal with it later, you do this now you'll get everyone killed. Havock took a long and deep breath then returned to her vigil position looking in the window.

She had to swallow hard but she looked at the cages once more. This time she pushed the sick feelings away and noticed the small creatures that were fighting against their restraints in the cages. It was light and that gave the small gray creatures definition to their features, which is why it took her brain a second to realize that they were shadowmen. Their were also shadowmen walking free in the room only these had some kind of device attached to the side of their head.

A shadow broke through the light inside a second before two men appeared. "Is the bait ready for another run yet, Kay?"

"So you call them bait then?" The well dressed man muttered.

"As far as I'm concerned that's what they are, scientists have lots of names for them. The little buggers don't do anything without one of those squints telling them too, the military practically drooled." He took a long drink from his small flask and returned it to his jacket pocket. "Come on Kay, before my grandchildren get old."

A voice in the distance yelled. "Alright already, I'm just getting the cages prepped they come in hot yanno."

The man waved impatiently and muttered. "Yea, yea, always an excuse." Then he returned to yelling. "Just hurry up ya!"

"Now if you'd like to look over here I can show you how we load the buggers on the ship." The two men continued walking past the window, Havock dipped back down.

"Aeos."

"Your clear back to the truck."

"Copy." Havock jumped up and took off running back to the vehicle she had to dive under as she realized that she may have been cleared but there was actually someone coming around the other side of the vehicle with a flashlight of all things, just what she needed was to be blinded right now. "Cute Ae, you enjoy my sliding skills there?"

"Cut the chatter Hav. You're clear."

Havock rolled and made her way back up to the ridge, she returned to almost the same position she left next to Aeos. "Any word from the other teams?"

"No reports, what did you find out on your little field trip?"

The sweat was pouring down Havock's face as she glared back at the compound. She shook her head and touched her comm, "Decem, Mai get your teams and get your asses back to the ridge, double time."

She slammed her hand back to the ground harder than she probably had to. Now she really wanted to break some skulls and frankly couldn't wait for the chance. But then her brain, the part that still thought like a squad leader, knew that her emotions were too involved here, she needed a second and possibly a third opinion. That's why she had a level headed, if not infuriating ASL to talk to.

"Ayme, why are you shaking?" Aeos looked more irritated than concerned not that most people would have picked up on that subtile difference in her voice.

The anger Havock was trying to force away spilled over a bit into her speaking despite herself when she spat back. "What do you care?" She sighed. "Look, I know what's happening to the shadowmen, I need to find Eceniv. Wait here for the others."

"Ayme..."

"I said hold this position, is there a problem with that Sergeant?"

Aeos raised an eyebrow and rested her head back on her propped up hand. She looked over Havock for a long moment then nodded solemnly. Her eyes kept watching the squad leader as she disappeared into the forest to find the leader of the shadowmen.

OOC:
Here are your positions at the moment, you guys should be heading back to the ridge to meet up with Aeos' group:

Scouting on the far side of the valley eastern side of compound = Mai, Bright
Scouting west side of compound = Dec, skarr
Heading down to the center of the compound and now in the forest looking for Ecinev = Hav
Holding position on the ridge = RK, Grahim, Karash, Aeos

Once everyone is back (and don't rush you guys are wicked spread out) Decem or I will move things along. You can have Havock return with Ecinev once everyone is back together she will tell you what happened (which if you read the post you know so you can go for it). Havock is a bit troubled by what she saw due to the things that happened to her in her childhood, see Hav's wiki for more info

Skarr and Decem picked their way back through the foilage towards the ridge where the squad would be waiting.

"Should we report in?" Skarr asked after some thought.

Decem shook his head, "They could be monitoring the comm channels." Skarr nodded, it made sense. He tried looking up to the ridge and wasn't able to see through the dense leaves. Skarr looked back to ensure they weren't being followed.

That had been a close call. The sentry only needed to turn his head. Skarr sighed, too many close calls. This night could turn disastrous. It still could. Skarr wanted this mission to be over. He hated the goggles he wore with a passion. He didn't want to ever see them again.

Decem looked back at Skarr and waved his hand impatiently. Skarr had begun to drag behind. Well, that's what I get for being contemplative, Skarr thought. He walked carefully back to where Decem stood waiting.

Skarr brushed aside a few branches and stood next to Decem. What he hadn't noticed before was that the ASL stood next to the slope that would take them back up the ridge. Skarr looked over at Decem and chuckled slightly. "Well this looks like it's going to be a bitch."

Decem only gave a dry laugh, "You'll make it. Wuss." Skarr nodded and began making his way up the slope. It was a bit more difficult to climb than to descend. He had to use both his hands and feet. Skarr was panting halfway up the slope. He felt that something was wrong, but couldn't place it.

He tried for another step and pain exploding in his leg. Oh that's what was wrong, he had time to think as he cried out and lost his hold on the slope. Skarr landed on his side. Unfortunately, it was the side of his bad leg. Skarr cried out again as Decem swore and began climbing back down.

"Just what we needed," Decem huffed. Skarr moaned, clutching at his leg. He had no idea what had happened. But he did know he wasn't getting up that slope now.

"Painkillers must've worn off," Skarr said, panting.

"Or you were working it too hard. I should've thought of that when we were chosen to go down the slope," Decem commented.

"I forgot too, V," Skarr added. Decem gave a chuckle and bent over to examine Skarr's leg.

"It's bleeding again," Decem explained. Skarr nodded, he was able to sit up. He looked himself. His wound was bleeding. Skarr reached into one of his pouches and pulled out a small cloth. He pressed it to the wound to try and staunch the bleeding. He almost cried out again.

Skarr motioned to the ridge with his other hand, "You're going to have to go up there yourself. Let them know what's up. I can wait for now." Decem almost shook his head, but stopped himself. He turned and began making his way up the slope.

Skarr looked around hesitantly as the darkness closed around him. And the silence. The silence was the worst. Skarr had spent the whole night, or day, or whatever, with others. Now he was alone. And bleeding. He didn't know what predators there were on Nivek, but he was sure there were some who would be close. They would smell blood and they would come.

The young Lance Corporal reached behind his back and pulled out two items. One was his D-18, the other his combat knife. He hoped he wouldn't have to use the blaster. He would hate to have to give up the squad because of some animal coming to feed on Skarr's mistake. This wasn't enjoyable to him. He hoped Karash could fix his wound. Then again, he didn't think he trusted Karash with anything at the moment. The man was off-balance.

Damn this abominal planet, Skarr cursed, you've messed everything up. He stared in contempt at the forest around him.

I want to be off this planet, Skarr thought longingly, Hurry Decem.

“What was that? Did you hear that?”

“Would you quit being so jumpy? This is a jungle. There are noises sometimes. You know… in the jungle.”

“It didn’t sound like no Shadowman. That was a voice, not a whisper. I’m going to check it out.”

“Radio back if you find anything. Don’t take any chances. You’re not a hero, son.”

Vasili turned back once more to make sure Skarr was staying put. The slope was too steep to get him back to the group but they needed Karash or at least some of his pain killers. Every couple steps he took up the slope (it was more like a crawl) V turned back to make sure Skarr was ok. Leaving his trooper sitting in the open by himself didn’t sit well with the Sergeant. He knew that Norith was more than capable of defending himself; he was at least twice as big and three times as fit as V. Unfortunately that made him a bigger target on the broadside of a mountain. Halfway back up the slope Decem turned around again. Skarr was pressing himself to the ground as if he was in some serious pain.

The Corporal started rolling around and ended up under some brush, out of Decem’s sight. This really bothered the ASL, who was now halted on the slope, uneasy with not being able to see the man he was leaving behind. More than that: emerging through the trees was another figure. That’s when V realized Skarr wasn’t writhing in pain, he was attempting to conceal himself.

Keep it together, it’s just an animal. A strange, human-sounding animal. It’s no big deal…

Turn around, now! Skarr wished at the interloper. His pistol was trained on the scout as he searched for whatever tipped him off to the soldier’s presence. Clearly the scout hadn’t spotted Skarr beneath the bushes, but with the goggles over the scout’s eyes all he would need to do is glance at Skarr and there would be trouble.

Norith had absolutely no desire to fire his pistol. The shot would erupt the forest in light and sound, leaving him alone with the enemy all over him; but he knew that if the scout saw him it was the only option. Damn, why did I send Rustam away?

What the fuck was that?! the scout spun as some gravel slid down the slope. “Guys, there’s something out here!” he said into his comm., “No, I need backup. I shouldn’t have been out here alone in the first place.” He scanned the area frantically through his goggles, trying to find the source but only seeing brush. He had to double take when he saw a part of a leg sticking out from under a large leaf. He followed the leg up to see part of a head, too, with similar goggles on. He raised his rifle and took aim.

Shit, I’m compromised Skarr knew he was toast if he didn’t act quickly. But he couldn’t bring himself to pull the trigger. An equation of pros and cons ran through his head in a moment: if he killed this guy, the whole compound would be bearing down on him and the rest of the squad would have to put themselves in danger to try and save him. The closest person to him was Decem, which meant, depending on how quickly the Mercs responded, their ASL could be caught as well. Skarr could call for help, but if the comm. was indeed being monitored then that would give the whole squad away. However if Skarr took one for the team then the rest of the squad could get away. Long live RAIDERS he rationalized his impending doom with a resigning smirk and lowered his pistol, always putting his comrades before himself.

“There’s someone out here!” the scout practically yelled into the comm. “There’s a human out here and it’s not one of us!

Come out of the bushes-!” he yelled at the man laying right in front of him, Lance Corporal Norith Skarr, but lurched to his left as more gravel slid down the slope. To his surprise and dismay, another man was lunging through the air right at him.

The slope was practically doing the work for him. Vasili hurled himself down and slid beneath the brush. Once or twice the scout looked his way but didn’t pick him out. Luck was still with Vasili, but how could someone so good looking not be lucky ALL the time? The scout surely noticed Skarr, as he raised his rifle at him and said something over the comm. Dec wasn’t listening, the adrenaline pumping and blocking out his ears. The slope indeed did the work for him: one more slide and he planted his foot in the ground, propelling him up and at the scout.

The look on the merc’s face amused V, and he promptly took advantage of his foe’s bewilderment by swinging his arm forward and burying the barrel of him pistol into the scout’s neck, firing off a shot from the slugthrower that tore through the soft flesh. The force silenced the man and pushed him to the ground, sliding a few feet down the slope. Vasili slid with him and when they stilled did not think for more than a millisecond before firing two more shots into the man’s chest.

Mai’s ears perked up, but nobody needed the senses of a Cathar to hear the shots fired from across the quiet valley. Bright shot a look across the way but the goggles wouldn’t permit her vision that far. The two huntresses broke out into as much of a sprint as possible horizontally across the slope to make their way towards the position of Rustam and Skarr.

“Oy!” Grahim covered his big, floppy ears, startled by the three blasts.

“Aw, hell Sarge! He just had to bring a slugthrower, didn’t he?” RK knew exactly what was happening and exactly who it was.

“That came from the west,” Karash analyzed, “those trigger happy fools! There’s going to be a mess.”

Aeos said nothing but put on her determined face and drew her pistol.

Havock was in the middle of debriefing Ecinev when the sound echoed through the valley. She jolted towards the origin, but composed herself and continued with the Shadowman. She trusted all of her soldiers to take care of it, especially with Aeos present. She just hoped they would all be smart enough to stay off the comm.

“Sarge… you came back for me?” Skarr asked incredulously, surprised at Vasili putting himself in danger to save the trooper.

V holstered his pistol and grabbed Skarr’s arm, pulling him to one leg and supporting the heavy man. “Don’t you dare get choked up, that’s an order,” he said to Norith, knowing he’d appreciate the crack. “They’ll be bearing down on us any second now and you still may need to provide cover for me.”

“I can hardly move, sir. I’ll be a sitting duck.”

“Right. You’re my cover, you big, muscle hunk of manshield,” Dec joked again under the duress of Skarr. Call it stress relief: Dec knew exactly what he had just done and what he got everybody in to.

“It’s the least I could offer for saving my ass, Sarge,” the larger man had no problem joking back, with the undertones of serious appreciation. However, Skarr was cool, collected; he was an anchor for V right now (both for ease of mind and ability to move). They would need each other’s strengths if they were gonna hold off until the rest of the squad arrived.

Skarr was extremely grateful that V had come back for him. But now, the small encampment was aware of at least some kind of presence. He looked around as best as he could while being supported by V. There wasn't many places to go. The slope was a no go. Skarr wouldn't make it up. It was possible to stay where they were, but they didn't want to make it easy for the mercs.

Norith sighed and pointed farther into the forest. "We'll have to go farther in. Let's make it hard for these mercs to find us."

"We want the rest of the squad to be able to find us though," V reminded. Damn, Skarr thought, I forgot about that. Skarr hefted his pistol.

"Well, let's not just stand here. We need to have some kind of plan," Skarr commented. V nodded quickly and slowly lowered Skarr to the forest floor, covering Skarr in some fallen branches. "Might as well see if the trick will work this time."

Skarr chuckled and huddled closer to the tree he was propped up against. V sank into some of the foilage close to slope.

"There's a nearly dead tree here. I'm going to see if I can push it down, give us some cover," Decem reported. The tree began to creak as V pushed against it. Skarr heard rustles and shouts near to them.

With one last push the tree fell. It landed on the dead scout. Skarr tried to suppress a chuckle at that. The tree was large enough to give Skarr at least some cover. V retreated a small bit into the forest behind Skarr, taking cover behind one of the trees.

Skarr took a deep breath. He was able to holster his pistol now and pulled his rifle from behind him. Branches snapped and leaves rustled. The mercs were making a lot of noise.

One of them stepped into the small clearing and eyed the fallen tree.

"What the fuck?" the man exclaimed.

The other mercs that had entered the clearing looked at the scout under the tree.

"Are you sure it was a gunshot you heard?" a petite woman asked.

"Wait, what is that?" the man asked.

One of the mercs peered at the fallen branches by the tree, "What is tha-" His question was cut off by a blaster shot to the head. Skarr began firing at the mercs who stood motionless for only one second. V added fire of his own.

The mercs recovered fast and began firing back, taking cover of their own. Skarr laughed, this was what he had been wanting since they had landed. His mind worked fast, finding targets, and firing.

The mercs were under good cover though, providing very little targets. And they were organized too. Until fire began hitting them from behind. The mercs reacted to the presence on their flank and was further confused by the fire that rained from above now.

Skarr took a look around. Aeos, Grahim, Karash, and RK were at the top of the slope, prone on their stomachs. And Skarr would've bet that it was Mai and Bright behind the mercs.

The mercs finally broke and scattered into the forest. Aeos descended the slope glaring daggers at V and Skarr.

"What happened?" Aeos demanded.

"It was me ma'am," Skarr said, quickly glancing at V. "They know of us because of me."

"I don't know what they are doing to them, but can you understand what I'm describing." Havock walked with Ecinev back to the ridge that the RAIDERS should have asymbled on by now. She had spent the past ten minutes or so trying to describe the things she had witnessed at the compound to which Ecinev simply nodded and hushed his fellow shadowmen. She knew why she was feeling a twist in the pit of her stomach but these pint sized aliens were acting down right pissed off.

"We understand." He calmly replied then turned quickly to silence his lieutenants in his own tongue.

It wasn't much further before they arrived back at the ridge. Havock glanced over to see Brightstar and Mai layed out on their right flank, Karash was with Aeos towards the center leaving RK and Grahim to the left. "Where the hell is Vee? And we're you guys discharging your weapons?"

Aeos grabbed Havock by the collar and yanked her down. "He and Skarr met up with some resistance, looks like Skarr maybe injured. The problem is we can't get to them without completely giving up our position and any advantage we could possibly have."

Havock slowly removed the small hand from her collar and glared at Aeos. "And the weapons fire?"

"Yea that was us, they got pinned down. But the mercs are making a b-line for Mai and Brights previous position so far they are not heading our way."

The squad leader rolled her shoulders. "So we have two troopers we can't get to without compromising our defenses, and an unknowing number of militia somewhere in the area trying to shoot us."

"Perhaps we can help."

Both women turned to look at Ecinev who had been standing stoically listening to the conversation. Suddenly from the east side of the compound came a blast that sent anyone not on their stomachs dropping quickly to the ground.

Ecinev calmly nodded. "Ah yes that will be Bene now."

"What the hell? You're attacking them?" Havock yelled from the ground.

"Yes. These humans have been stealing our people, locking them in cages, changing them in a way that controls them. Thank you for finding out what's been happening, my people will happily take it from here."

Havock stared at the alien in disbelief. This was probably very bad, but it did amount them one very nice distraction for the time being. "RAIDERS we need to collect some wayward troopers, Karash get your medkit ready. Once we collect Rustam and Skarr we need to find some kind of data down there in that shit storm that tells us who these guys are. After that find a transport that flies and get the hell out of here. Move."

OOC:
Okay your objectives are...well what I just said. Get to Decem and Skarr and then move down to the compound (which will be under some heavy fire, yes shadowmen can use blasters they are not ewoks) find info on who these guys are and who they are working for and then get out of dodge. ONWARD!

Sweat, it dripped uncontrollably into his eyes, stinging them with ever little drop. He tries to brush it out of his eyes, but it only made it worse, if it wasn’t the sweat from his eyes, it was the sweat from his arm that would bring pain. Eventually, RK just gave up trying to stop the pain, and instead focused on the mission at hand; Saving his friends.

RK glanced over the crate he was ducked behind only briefly, yet, even in that one second numerous bolts flew past his head, almost like in slow motion. Luckily he came out with his head, and life, still intact. Ugh, sometimes I wonder why I even do this job, oh that’s right, I don’t like people shooting at me He instinctively uncovered himself again and shot three blasts in random order, hoping he’d hit something of use, but he wasn’t going to watch long enough to know.

“Grahim, where the frack are you?” RK cursed a little under his breath, wondering where the half-witted gungan could have gone, not that there was far to go without getting a big hole pt into vital areas.

“Mesa over here, thesa mercs have me pinned.” Grahim shot two bolts straight up, one for a warning shot the other to let RK know where he was at. It was smart, RK was glad that he wasn’t dead, but he was cursing at Grahim for giving away his position too easily.

“Okay, move to me, and keep your head down; where is Karash?”

“Mesa not sure…”

Then in that moment time seemed to stop, RK took the opportunity to think about what he was going to do next. Unfortunately, the only thing running through his mind was getting to Skarr and Decem. Yet, that feat was going to be quite impossible; they were pinned behind crates with little room to maneuver, if he was going to do something he’d have to move fast, but not yet.

“Everyone report in!” Havocks voice filled RK’s ears, it was a comfort to know that at least the squad leader was still intact.

“RK, reporting, Grahim and me are stuck behind a couple crates, I can see Karash to our right.”

“Brightstar reporting, Mai is here too.”

“Okay, and me and Ae are in the middle of everyone.” Havock paused as if she was thinking quickly, and then he thoughts came as fast as they started, “Alright, let’s move, we have to get to Skarr and Decem stat, leave nobody behind. Alright, let’s do this, Move!”

With that one word the whole squad raised their weapon and moved as one body, red bolts firing rapidly from their blasters. RK could see Skarr and Decem just to his left, towards the west. He couldn’t see clearly what was wrong, but at least he knew they were alive. “I got a visual on Skarr and Decem!”  He kept his blaster trained on anything that moved, and just kept the trigger down, hoping that would give him time to figure out where the rest of his squadmates where.

He jerked his head to the left and could see Ae and Havock taking point, with Bright and Mai coming up to join with them. Karash was just behind RK, he didn’t even need to look he could see his life sign dot on his radar. Then there was Grahim who was slightly ahead of RK, only he was slowly getting closer to Havock’s group good, we are all still alive

Then in an instant things went from good to sour, and explosion came from RK’s left, and he could see Havock stop dead, just before the blast zone. The rest of the squad scattered behind her, some of them sticking close to her, others split apart to the left of Havock.

“Frak.” Brightstar swore through the comlink her voice radiating what everyone else was feeling.

“What the..” RK tried to stay calm, but his heart was beating fast enough it could kill him.

“Alright, they got grenades, everyone heads down, Grahim on me, I need help finding the grenadier; it’s starting to heat up.”

“Mesa coming boss.” Grahim stood up and began to sprint towards the squad leader, RK gave him cover fire, even though it seemed  like his position wasn’t as badly under attack as the rest.

“RK, damn it, where are you?”

“Over here.” RK smiled as he aimed his gun to the sky, let off one shot and then made sure he got back to covering Grahim. I can’t believe I just did that.

“Good, your still alive, were pinned down over here, Mai is next to you, and I’m assuming you have Karash?”

RK sighed under his breath, stopped firing and hid behind the crate, graham was safe; yet, he knew that was the alst thing he should be worrying about.  “yea, Karash is right here, say hi Karash.”

“Hi, Mom!” Karash wasn’t cowering, but he was checking his medical supplies, he obviously knew what was coming next as well.

“Good, now listen carefully. Mai, meet up with RK and Karash, we will keep these guys attention, I want you three to get to Skarr.” Again, Havock paused, and RK looked over to see her tapping her helmet, then she spoke again, “Okay, as soon as you meet up with them Decem is in charge, I want you guys to be quickhurry up! Move out!”

Within a few second Mai was with them and they were ready to move. RK snickered to himself as he thought about the irony of this team; A genius, A speed demon, and the muscle. Yep, this was definitely a match made in heaven. “ okay, guys, you heard the leader, let’s go, we got a teammate to save, you ready KArash?”

“Ready as I’ll ever be!”

“Alright then what are we waiting for? Let move!” Hang in there Skarr, we’re coming!

“There.”

Mai calmly pointed through the dense forage before the trio of Raiders troopers, ignoring the enemy fire flashing about her head. RK and Karash were to her left, their backs pressed up to the thick and twisted trunks of the local trees.

“Damnit Mai, get behind some cover!” RK called out at her, his exasperation clear as he popped out momentarily to return fire.

“They are just ahead,” Mai disregarded the glib order in the Senior Sergeant’s tone and continued to point the claw of her forefinger in the direction of a clump of bushes a few hundred meters from their position. The bushes were a virtual warzone, streams of enemy fire converging onto the relatively small target with a purpose that suggested the presence of fellow Raiders.

“Wait for Hav and the others to circle around,” RK yelled at her, flinching back again as another series of blaster bolts converged on a log just in front of them, disintegrating it into a hundreds of pieces in an instant, “There might be....”

Mai pulled in a deep breath of the damp air, grinned beneath her helmet, and leapt forward before RK could finish his sentence. She heard the Senior Sergeant swear in obvious agitation, before he too sprinted out to follow her lead, Karash following in his wake. Mai was aware of their presence for only a moment before she became lost in the rush of battle

A shadow loomed up before her, her HUD quickly identifying the shape as an unknown soldier. Mai snarled in anticipation of the kill and slammed into the enemy trooper at full force, bringing the full weight of her body to bear to knock the rifle clasped in the soldier’s hands to the forest floor. The enemy trooper cried out in obvious shock, the deep rumble of his voice giving away both his origin and his sex. A Mon Calamari, by the gargled quality of his tone and the salty brine tinged scent of his sweat. And a male by all accounts, a fact reinforced as he shouted out a battle cry and dove towards Mai. Well aware of the links bespoken by the alien’s presence, Mai forced herself to focus on the immediate threat posed by a very real and well trained foe.

She allowed herself to fall backwards as the Mon Cal launched himself at her, intending to wrap his hands around her fragile throat. The graceful maneuver caught the solider completely off guard and he continued forwards and over her shoulder, carried by his own momentum. Mai whipped herself back to full height and brought her rifle about to target the trooper’s back as he sought to right himself. Her first shot took the Mon Cal in the shoulder, her second hitting him directly in the unprotected gap between his helmet and chest plate.

“Bout time you got here,”

The sound of Decembrist’s voice drew her attention back to the bushes now directly to her right. The ASL of the Raiders had lit a cigarette and was watching RK forage through the pockets of a solider he had killed. At the base of the bushes Karash was crouched down before Skarr, checking the man’s wounded leg with one hand and reaching into his kit for painkillers with the other. About the clearing three more bodies were visible, enemy soldiers caught off guard by Mai and the others mad rush.

“That was the last of them."

Bright announced as she moved out of a seemingly solid wall of foliage before the small group. Havock, Grahim and Aeos were just behind the red haired woman, Havock stepping to the fore of the troupe as she perceived Skarr and Decembrist,

“Report.”

“It’s not bad boss,” Karash answered her, glancing up from Skarr as he did so, “Just a fair bit of wear and tear. I’ve dosed him up as much as I dare without turning him into a spaced out drooling mongoloid.”

“That would probably be an improvement,” Dec cut in, a crooked grin lifting the corner of one side of his mouth as he exhaled, “Apologies for the predicament. We didn’t realize that they were onto us till too late.”

“We tripped detectors,” Bright interjected, tilting her head at Mai, “It may have been our fault.”

“It’s irrelevant,” Aeos shrugged her shoulders, the woman’s strong voice belying her small stature, “They have our position, there will be reinforcements on the way.”

Havock seemed unperturbed, “Perhaps. Or maybe they’ll have their hands full.”

As though in response to the SL’s words a series of muffled explosions sounded from further down the hill towards the valley where the encampment was located. Decembrist arched an eyebrow and took another deep drag of his cigarette, “Ecinev and the boys?”

Havock nodded, “They’re angry. They couldn’t be dissuaded.”

“This reeks of New Republic,” Mai spoke up from at the edge of the group. She flicked the helmet free from the head of the trooper she had killed to reveal the mottled grey skin of the Mon Calamari to the rest of the squad, “First the ambush in the factory. Then the military grade defence of a seemingly irrelevant compound. And now NR stalwart races in the ranks.”

“Why in the hell would the NR brainwash locals?” Skarr winced as Karash tugged the bandage about his leg tighter, “That doesn’t exactly fit into their ‘lovey dovey’ philosophy of unity between races.”

“No, there’s no way that this would be an NR sanctioned operation,” Havock checked her rifle and then gestured with the barrel towards the compound in the distance, “We need more information. And we need it before Ecinev and the rest of his very pissed off posse burn the entire place to the ground.”

Skarr nodded, information would be nice. He began looking around. He didn't think he could help much in the fight that was to come. Skarr didn't want to chance his leg giving out again. Even though it felt great.

"I won't be much help, unless I get back up to the ridge," Skarr commented.

"Why?" Havock asked not seeing the point.

"I'm a semi-trained sniper. I'll be of more use up there than down here," Skarr explained. Havock thought for a moment, then nodded grudgingly.

She pointed to Karash, "You help him up there, make sure he's where he needs to be, then get back down here." Karash nodded and helped Skarr to his feet. Skarr let out a sigh of relief. It felt good to be standing on his own, although he knew that standing on his leg wouldn't help his condition.

Skarr sidled over to the slope that would lead back up to the ridge.

"We'll head out into the clearing now," Havock said, "Just keep us updated." Skarr nodded and began making his way up the slope with Karash right behind him. The climb wasn't hard, the meds did their job. The pair reached the top in no time and began jogging back to the ridge.

Karash observed Skarr as he maneuvered into position. Skarr was prone on the ground, belly down. He had his sniper rifle unclipped fron his back.

"I think I'm fine now Karash," Skarr said as he powered up the scope. Karash nodded and made his way off into the distance.

"Report," Havock's voice crackled over the comm.

"I'm high as a Coruscant skyscraper here," Skarr commented, "Karash is on his way back."

Skarr pulled off his NV goggles and was immediately plunged into darkness. He looked thorugh his scope, which was equipped with night vision. He saw the camp in all it's chaotic glory. The Shadowmen were really kicking ass out there.

He spotted Havock and the rest of RAIDERS sneak up on the encampment. They were coming by way of the ships, which were still on the ground, systems still offline. What RAIDERS seemed unaware of was the guards still in position to protect the ships.

"Havock, you are walking right into the guards protecting the ships," Skarr warned.

"Copy," Havock replied and shots were fired. Skarr added a sniper shot to one who was hiding on the landing ramp of one ship.

Norith surveyed the site and found two men sneaking up on RAIDERS. With two quick shots, he killed them both. Havock led the RAIDERS up to one of the buildings, the largest one.  She approached the door and began pointing at different squad members. She's picking roles for them, Skarr grinned, I'm glad my only role is to sit on my ass and make sure no one touches my squad.

“Grahim I want you to cover Skarr's blind spots.” Havock said.

“Okeeday.” Grahim said and ran away to find a good position. After running a while he found a good positions so that he and Skarr could put down crossfire in front of the RAIDERS.

“Skarr mesa isa in place to support yousa's sniping.” Grahim said over the com.

“Good, because I need help with a guy that is about to ambush our dear comrades.” Skarr replied.

“Why haven't yousa taken a shot?”

“Because I can only see his arm the rest of him is behind a frakkin tree.” As he heard Skarr's stressed reply Grahim laid down and took aim. He saw something he hadn't expected it was a gungan that was standing behind the tree.

Grahim hesitated it had been a long time since he had meet someone of his own kind. But when he zoomed in on the gungan he realised that it would either be that gungan that would go down or the rest of RAIDERS.

Grahim took aim on the head and pulled the trigger. If it had been a blaster rifle there would just be a scorch mark on the head, but this was a slugthrower. Grahim looked trough the scope and saw the gungans face just before the slug hit him. When the slug hit it tore the gungans face scattering the brain and teeth on the ground behind him.

Grahim withdrew his sight from the scope and smiled. He was glad about the results. This was the first time he had used a slugthrower but it sure wasn't the last time. Grahim once again aimed down from the hill he had positioned himself at.

Grahim was looking at the RAIDERS that was moving forward. Their progress was slow but at least they were moving forward.

“Skarr wesa should thin out de enemies lines, not just protect demsa against enemies that they can't take care of.”

“You are already one step behind me.” Skarr said with a laugh. Grahim saw a blaster bolt hitting an enemy in the chest. Grahim followed Skarr's lead.

"We.....entering.....now," Havock's sentence was lost in static. Skarr fiddled with his comm a little, but to no avail. Static will have to do for now, Skarr thought. It could have gone static for a number of reasons. Skarr ticked them off in his head, long distance, comm jamming, electromagnetic field, or the most likely reason, it broke. He stared through his scope, finding Havock and the squad immediately. They had indeed entered a building.

He heard the continuous reports of Grahim's slugthrowing rifle. Skarr smiled, Grahim could hold off the numerous bogeys while Skarr kept an eye on the squad. An idea set off in his head. His hand snaked up to the scope and he changed the setting. The infrared setting easily pierced the walls of the large building. Skarr could see RAIDERS quickly scanning the place, opening doors and checking behind things. He could just here the shouts of "Clear!"

There was one room that was generating a lot of heat source, but a closer look revealed it to be rows of computers. Skarr was puzzled. What in the galaxy does a bunch of mercs need with rows of computers? He chose to file that mystery away. Maybe the answer lay within one of those computers. He was about to chose another target outside when he spotted something inside the building other than the RAIDERS. Five heat signatures were emerging from a trap door. They were inching closer towards a door that would lead into the computer room.

RAIDERS was entirely clueless to this presence. They were busy examining the computers from the look through the scope. Skarr ripped at his comm.

"Havock, come in. Five bogeys approaching you. I repeat, five bogeys approaching through northern door," Skarr yelled. The comm only spewed static back at him. Skarr growled and stuffed the useless gadget into a pocket, while trying to shove his NV goggles back on.

He ended up rolling down the ridge in his haste to get off the ground and run. His legs had been numb from misuse and he had  tripped on a rock. Skarr shouted in rage as he came to rest at the bottom of the ridge. Time for some bloody heroics, Skarr grunted. He stowed away his sniper rifle, hoping Grahim may be watching Skarr and get a hint of what was going on.

The young Lance Corporal grabbed the DC-17M that was slung over his shoulder. He worked fast as he half hopped across the field. Within seconds he had attached the anti-armor launcher to his weapon. He pointed and fired. The missile launched true and struck the side of the facility. He switched to his rifle attachment again and began spewing fire into the vast whole he had created.

If that didn't kill them, then they sure did shit their pants, Skarr laughed mentally. He reached the large entrance he had created to find all the mercs dead or dying and the RAIDERS standing at the door staring at him.

"What?! I like to blow shit up!" Skarr exclaimed with a wave of his arm.

Well the forest was quiet. The shadowmen were still using guerrilla tactics, coming out of nowhere and hitting the mercs. There was no way Havock could predict where the shadowmen would strike next and she was rapidly running out of merc's to question.

"There." RK pointed to a almost hidden terminal in the small warehouse. Another explosion shook the building sending more random items crashing to the dirty floor.

Havock rubbed her eyes trying to adjust from the NV goggles back to the artificial light the mercs had set up. "They keep bombing the joint they are going to have some trouble getting their people back alive."

"Havi, who's hacking the terminal?" Aeos dryly commented next to the squad leader.

She shrugged. "Suppose we did forget to bring a commtech, didn't we?" Aeos nodded solemnly which prompted Havock to roll her eyes. "Spread out and get in cover positions people, Vee get your ass over here."

Decembrist raised an eyebrow and slowly walked over, his eyes were watching the rest of the squad enviously as they got into positions. He leaned against the wall and looked curiously at the blond woman next to him stabbing the keys with her fingers. "So, Hav, what the hell are you doing?"

"This should not be that hard," She muttered to herself.

Rustam laughed out loud. "I can safely say thats a phrase I've never heard a woman say to me."

"Must you?"  Havock rolled her eyes and got back to the frustrating task at hand. She was never going to be a hacker, but she had picked up a few tricks enough to possibly find the info they needed in a terminal that was already logged in. It was just like using any other computer, she just needed to find it. "Booya." The screen finally revealed the information that brought them a step closer to getting off the dark swamp.

"Pentastar Alignment"

"What?" Decembrist asked with little actual interest in his voice.

Havock was still blinking at the screen trying to read as much of the information as she could as the datapad collected the rest for later reflection, when the blast from an explosive ripped through the warehouse sending everyone to the ground. The lights flickered and soon died out completely leaving everyone in the dark. She wiped the dust out of her eyes and got her NV goggles on quickly twisting to her feet. "Karash report!"

The medic waved from behind a supply crate, everyone was coughing from the debris. "I'm alive, unfortunately, and yes I'll check everyone else since you won't tell me if you're injured even if I ask at gun point."

Havock shook her head and offered Aeos a hand up which she promptly brushed away. "You okay?"

"I'm fine, what was that?"

Both pairs of blue eyes fell on the now gaping opening of the warehouse where the wall once had been. Either the merc's had gotten sloppy with their explosives or someone just launched a rocket at their location.

"No clue." She motioned to Brightstar and Mai to keep their eyes up in case there were snipers who had been playing with explosives to force them out into the open. Everyone had their goggles back on since without the buildings lights the pitch black dark of the whole planet returned.

They slowly advanced until they reached the edge of the warehouse only to find a limping Skarr smirking like an idiot at them.

"Lance Corporal, you could have knocked."

"He could have killed us, do you think about the structural integrity at all before you blow stuff up." Aeos looked like she was going to shoot him in the other leg but before anyone could say anything else, a spray of blaster fire filled the area once again sending the squad to defensive positions.

"Okay seriously enough of this shit. RK and Skarr you're with me, we are going to see if any of these ships fly. Vee you take Bright and Grahim see if you can get those shadowmen out of their cages, should provide even more of a distraction so we can get the ship. Aeos, Mai and Karash you three cover us. I am tired of the dark lets get this done people."

OOC:

And now for the final stretch:

Havock, RK and Skarr = there are several ships parked on the compound of various makes and models. They should be something our cheap ass merc's would use so keep that in mind, beyond that whoever jumps up first can pick our ride.

Decembrist, Brightstar and Grahim = There is a warehouse filled with cages and those cages have shadowmen. There will be some 'controled' shadowmen that will attack you when you try to let the unaltered ones out, and probably one nerdy guy who is controlling them. Enjoy.

Aeos, Mai and Karash
= You three get to cover us, take positions and you can split up or stay together. We are mostly dealing with crossfire but there may be some random mercs or coward mercs around the compound to deal with.

As for our merc's benefactors:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Pentastar_Alignment

They would be a very fragmented imperial faction in 9aby. Trying to get some extra manpower using the shadowmen. Feel free to use the info, find stuff from them, or have Havock talk about them since she read the info on the terminal.

Carry on.

Skarr limped along side of Havock and RK towards the improvised landing field. It was full of battered cruisers. Mainly old YV and VT corvettes. They were all battered and pockmarked. Some of them were heavily modified.

As they walked Skarr turned to Havock, "So what did you learn?"

Havock looked at Skarr and shrugged, "The Pentastar Alignment is behind this."

"No kidding," Skarr said. "I didn't realize they would cause this much trouble."

"You know about them," RK asked.

Skarr shook his head, "I know of them. When you spend time as a merchant pilot, you hear things and you learn how to get information. From what I've heard the Pentasatr Alignment isn't a major player in the galaxy right now." Havock nodded her head.

Blaster shots still rang out through the camp. The Shadowmen were giving the mercs a good fight. They reached the landing field which was nothing more than trampled grass, flattened by numerous repulsorlifts. The ships stood darkened and cold.

"I wonder why none of the mercs fired up their ships," RK whispered. Skarr wondered that himself, perhaps they were arrogant and thought they could easily repel any threat.

Havock looked over at Skarr, a bemused smile on her face, "So, pilot, which ship would we like to steal."

Skarr smiled himself and looked over the ships in the field. He came across a YV-100 light freighter and smiled. It was the best looking ship in the field. It was barely modified, most modifications for a ship like this was expensive. Skarr motioned for Havock and RK to join him, they had been looking at other ships.

"This is the one," Skarr said. He climbed up the loading ramp.

"What's wrong with him?" RK asked.

Havock laughed, "Like any pilot, he's fallen in love." Skarr took a look around the ship, checking the hyperdrive and other various systems. He finally approached the cockpit. Havock and RK were right behind him.

Skarr settled into the pilot's chair and began flipping switches. He had to warm up the engines and do a pre-flight check just to make sure the ship could fly.

"I have a good feeling about this one," Skarr said.

“I’m glad you do Skarr, cause from my view I have a bad feeling about this.” RK didn’t even try to keep the sarcasm out of his voice, much to his dismay as Skarr turned around and gave him a scowl, even through the pain that was etched on his face, he was scary.

“Who’s flying this thing?” Skarr questioned, not excepting an answer.

“Skarr, with all due respect, are you sure you can? After all your pretty much a hamburger on legs” This time RK heard Havock snicker a little bit under her breath.

“He has a point.” Havock’s voice cracked slightly.

Skarr didn’t even move, he just turned around and went back to flipping switches. RK didn’t doubt he could fly the thing; he just wasn’t sure how well Skarr could fly it. Either RK was going to kick him out of that seat with force or he was taking over the co-pilot’s seat just in case.

RK looked back at Havock and gave her a concerned look; Havock just returned it back as if there was nothing she could do. He tried to think quick, but he really didn’t want to hurt Skarr more than he already was, not that he wasn’t functional.

RK let his judgment get the better of him, and he went into a short sprint towards the co-pilot’s seating. He spun and sat down hard, making sure his presence was known. “You’re a good pilot Skarr, but you look like you could use some help.”

“I wondered how long it was going to take one of you two to sit down.” Skarr looked over at RK and grinned.

Havock came up behind RK and looked over his shoulder at the controls. They all kept their eye on the system board for a little while longer and finally Havock spoke up. “So are we just going to sit here or are we going to move?”

“Depends on what your orders are Ma’am” RK said.

“Ditto.” Came Skarr’s voice.

"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you." -Byran(Liam Neeson), Taken 2009

"A hero is more than a person, a hero is a belief. A belief that, against impossible odds, the world can be saved—and that the world is still worth saving. Heroes inspire that belief in us. They renew our faith and give us that most precious of all gifts—hope. The world needs heroes. That's why, when a true hero arrives, the world will honor him." -'Believe' Halo 3 ad

The viewport was filled with alternating darkness and flashes from blasterfire and explosives. The merc's were panicking, no real surprise. The shadowmen both out manned them and had the tactical advantage in every conceivable way. Havock grimaced and rubbed her eyes as another blinding light lit up the cockpit of the YV-100 transport.

Skarr looked horrid but she could tell he didn't feel it, yet. RK's expression mirrored hers, time to get the eff out of here. She heard them ask for orders and all she could do was chew on her lip. They had to wait for the others.

"Skarr, stay here and run a diagnostic. That shouldn't take more than five minutes. RK and I are going to cover the ramp and we will comm you as soon as everyone is on board, then I want us airborne before I get the ramp up. Let's move."

RK was reluctant to leave Skarr but he grumbled and followed Havock. "You sure he's okay in there?"

"He has to push some buttons and run a diagnostic, Skarr's a tough kid he can handle that."

She reached up to tap the button that would have descended the entry ramp when a blaster barrel appeared in her face. Havock raised an eyebrow and trailed her eyes up the arm to the sweaty face of the man holding the blaster. "Can I help you?"

"Shut up girl, I want off this planet...now. You can pilot, then you're taking me, if you can't I'll just shoot you and keep waiting." He was nervous, the quickness of his breath and profuse sweating gave that away. She also noted the number of times his eyes twitched around the area. She could have easily disarmed him with minimal chance of him hitting anything with his clumsy grasp on the blaster, then again RK was right behind her and she didn't want to risk random fire hitting him.

"I have to say you are the best dressed merc I've ever seen." It was true, he wore a business suit and looked more at home in a conference room closing a deal rather than the pitch black jungle of Nivek.

"I'm not a merc, you stupid bitch." He yelled sending several drops of spit flying on her cheeks. "Now both of you, go to the cockpit and get this piece of shit in the air."

Havock rolled her eyes apathetically and took about three steps back before they all froze hearing gears engage. The boarding ramp was lowering, someone on the outside must have hit the controls. She didn't care who it was she took the extra distraction and grabbed the businessman's forearm, she twisted it towards her body rotating it outwards causing him to drop the blaster with a yelp. RK ran in and grabbed the pistol immediately pointing it at the man who was now nearly in tears. Everyone cleared the ramp just in time for Mai to run up with her blaster drawn.

"Saw him follow you in the ship, thought you might need some help." Her voice was a soft rumble and it surprised Havock that she could actually hear it over all the noise outside.

"Nice job, Mai." Havock slammed the man up against the bulkhead. "So who are you?"

He was crying now. "I'm nobody, just a representative from the company, they wanted to check on their product."

"Product? That's what you call shadowmen you experiment on." RK sneered, his eyes flicking from Havock to the exterior of the ship down the now open boarding ramp.

"I'm just a lackey! I write reports dammit, just get me out of here and you can leave me anywhere with a spaceport. Please."

Havock dug the pistol into his head. "The company is actually the Pentastar Alignment, isn't it?"

He blinked and the only thing that could be heard was his ragged breathing for several minutes. Havock became tired of waiting and dug the pistol in even harder. "Okay, okay! Yes. Happy? Can we go now?"

"Yea." Havock flicked the blaster setting with her thumb and lowered it to his chest, the stun bolt sent him crumpling to the floor before he had a chance to react. "Good times, we should check the rest of the ship I suppose."

"I can do that, Aeos and Karash are together keeping you clear on the ground." Mai spoke keeping her eyes on the incapacitated man.

"That'll work, RK and I can keep watch on the ramp. As you do a sweep check on Skarr and update him."

She nodded and silently padded around Havock heading deeper into the ship. Havock picked up the businessman and kicked him without ceremony off the ramp sending him crashing back to the jungle floor. "Ask nicely next time rather than with a pistol in my face, ass hole."

RK looked at his squad leader with a raised eyebrow but smartly stayed quiet. She just shrugged. "Now we wait for Decembrist to finish what he's doing and we can get out of here. Hopefully without any more surprises."

Grahim met up with Bright and Decem right outside of the warehouse. They were discussing how they should secure the warehouse. They knew that there were caged up Shadowmen in there and that there would probably be some who where controlled by the Pentastar Alignment.

“We should just go in and plant a bomb and just get out of this hell hole.” Decembrist said. Grahim couldn't agree more with Vasili.

“Think of the shadowmen trapped in there we can't just leave them, what if we need to return to this planet?” Brightstar said.

“What if yousa and Decem freed as many as possible mesa will rig the bomb and den wesa get the hell out of disa building?” Grahim replied.

“Why shall we blow up the fracking place?” Bright said.

“To dristract the guards from the rest of the squad.” Decem said but his whole face said that he just wanted to blow stuff up. Bright sighed and said. “Well you are the ASL so I guess so are in charge.”

Decem kicked down the door and ran into the warehouse with Bright and Grahim right behind. They went in guns blazing. Grahim looked around looking for somekind of energy source inside of the warehouse. He saw a energy transformer. Grahim knew that there were explosive liquid in them and he figured that some grenades should be able to ignite the liquid. But as soon as he would be done with the bomb they would have to run out of the blast radius or they would die from the blast.

Grahim ran towards the power transformer. He looked back to see were Bright and Decem where. When he turned back his head a shadowman jumped into Grahim slaming him to the ground. Grahim wasn't prepared when his body was forced down on the ground in that way. Grahim pulled out one of his heavy blasters and shoot the shadowman right between the eyes before rising up from the ground and start to charge towards the transformer.

Grahim saw a human, actually the only human in the warehouse stand by some controlls Bright and Decem will take care of himsa. Grahim thought just before he reached the transformer. He snuck behind it so he could work without being disturbed by controlled shadowmen or some other threat. Grahim decided that he should wait a few minutes so that Decem and Bright could evacuate as many shadowmen as possible.

Grahim heard Decembrist's slugthrower fireing round after round and he heard bodies fall to the ground. Grahim was getting tired of waiting and started to rig the transformer to make the most lethal explosion over an large area as possible.

As soon as RK and Havock left the cockpit, Skarr slumped in his chair. He was absolutely exhausted and his leg was bleeding again. He pulled a small cloth from his bag and wrapped it around his wound. Skarr began running the diagnostic as he watched the scene of mayhem through the viewport.

The Shadowmen were clearly on the winning side of the fight. The mercenaries had no chance. They had been taken off guard and in force. The diagnostic ran clean, there was nothing exceptionally wrong with the ship. A few minor things were broken or jury-rigged, but none of them were essential systems.

Skarr was sitting there watching the battle scene when he heard a noise he behind him. He spun as quickly as he could, blaster in hand and nearly laughed when he seen who it was. Mai was standing there looking blankly at the blaster.

"Sorry 'bout that," Skarr sighed and holstered his blaster.

"We had a stowaway, he is now taken care of," Mai commented. Then she turned and stalked out of the cockpit. Skarr watched her leave and whistled. She was one strange person. He continued watching the battle from the viewport. He jumped up when the warehouse exploded.

The quick movement made him dizzy and he fell. He pulled himself up into the pilot's chair and stared at the mayhem. it was the building the Shadowmen had been held in. He hoped that none of the squad was in there.

‘Why does every mission we go one end with us nearly being killed?’

Karash’s thoughts were being drowned out by the noise that was happening all around them, he still could not really understand why he had been sent to do this particular job after all he didn’t usually do a lot of the shooting. It was then that Karash realised that he could not remember the last time he had shot anything. Now here he was being expected to make sure that nothing managed to get passed him and reach the squad, he was not worried about killing, just that he might miss.

‘You realise that Aeos is here somewhere...’

For some reason this thought made Karash laugh, in fact he burst into an uncontrollable fit of laughter that seemed to block out the noise that was emanating from all other directions. There was no real reason to laugh but he could not help it; he was not sure whether he was terrified or having another breakdown. Another large boom sounded out in the distance and Karash instantly stopped his chaotic laughter and did not know whether he was about burst out laughing again or weep.

‘I don’t see the point in me standing here when.... oh shi...’

Just as Karash was thinking a shadowy figure appeared from nowhere and began to approach, as it got closer it was most definitely not one of the RAIDERS. He was not quite sure what he was meant to do, should he shoot? Or should he try and detain the individual? There was not enough time for thinking; something had to be done now. Karash drew up his gun and pointed it towards the shadowy figure, he took aim and... missed.

‘You bloody fool! How could you miss? The man isn’t even that far away, we are all dead now you do realise that?’

The shadowy figure must have thought that it was a warning shot because he seemed to be bolting away in the other direction, as fast as his little legs would carry him. Well Karash had managed to miss an easy target and almost get everyone killed (an exaggeration maybe) but the job had been done. There did not appear to anything else likely to happen and from what Karash could hear, the RAIDERS were almost ready to get out of there.

‘The consolation is that nobody will have seen your little mistake... but then again Aeos is around here somewhere’

Once again, Karash began to laugh as he made his way to the newly acquired transport.

The explosion rocked the transport sending Havock slamming into a corridor wall. This YV-100 light freighter had certainly seen better days. Karash and Mai were walking towards her as she straightened herself into a more dignified posture.

"What in the hell was that now?"

Karash rolled his eyes. "Just us as usual. Blowing up a perfectly good building rather than using our brains in any functional fashion."

The cathar woman next to him hissed as they both continued to walk towards the cockpit. "Everyone is here except Grahim, Brightstar and Decembrist. Aeos is right behind us."

Havock frowned and watched their backs for a moment before turning almost right into a frustrated looking Aeos. "We need to go now."

"Skarr has everything ready and RK is helping him. This bucket should hold together long enough to get us where we need to go...I hope" She muttered the last word to herself and instantly wished she hadn't said it so the other blond woman could hear her.

"You hope? I swear Ayme, if you get me stranded I'm going to pound you." Aeos continued to yell at Havock as she made her way to the crew area to get strapped in.

Finally Decembrist, Brightstar and Grahim came running past her both urgently yelling, "it's time to leave, lets get moving."

Once the corridor was once more cleared and, for a moment, relatively quiet, Havock lifted her head to look up at the ceiling and whispered. "Just one mission, why can't they be normal for one damn mission?"

The ship buckled as it took off, the shaking was not a good sign at all, more than likely the ship had taken some damage from either the explosion or just random blaster fire. They all held their breath as Skarr reached over with a heavy arm and pulled back on the hyperspace controls. The stars faded and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

RK broke the silence first. "So, that was fun."

"We smell like a rancor's backside." Mai commented with her nose crinkled.

The transport rhythmically jerked slightly on cue, which didn't instill a resounding confidence in Havock. "Let's just get back to Tadath, I don't want to be in this transport any longer than we have to be."
