Figured I'd go on and post this up here. If anybody has any wiki-related work that you don't want to do or can't do, post it here and I'll see that it gets done. That stub isn't actually about our Raptor Squadron, but some earlier unit that must never have gotten off the ground. If you glance at the history you'll see that it was last edited in 2007- well before the creation of Raptor as we know it today.

I'll take care of it unless StOrMz prefers to do otherwise. Obviously it won't be a normal squadron page, because the roster will be changing so frequently, etc, so I'll try and look at a couple of formats before I put anything up.

Eh recently came to my attention that I probably should add my clarification for you guys from what I had set up. The Imperial Navy holds four primary fleets.

1st Fleet - Defensive Fleet, tasked with protecting Vast Imperial Aligned (or conquered) sectors

2nd Fleet - Offensive Fleet, tasked with operations to take and hold enemy positions until "order" is establish, in which case the area typically falls under the 1st fleet (if it's not too far into enemy territory)

3rd Fleet - The Support Fleet, this may include misc recon, logistics, and even the dreaded Task Force tasked with defending the Eclipse until it is finished.

4th Fleet - The Reserves Fleet, essentially ships we have manned with skeleton crews about VE space, or dry docked.  There aren't any real task forces in here.

Then.... outside those fleets, there's the....

5th Fleet - Most ships in here are classified as part of the "Planetary Militia" that the VE tends to support on many worlds, especially where they know they don't have to worry too much about dissent, and thus free resources for elsewhere.  The Expansionary Corps uses this fleet as well.

7th Fleet - Apparently someone's idea of a joke, or an attempt to somewhat mask it's existance.  The 7th Fleet is Special Operations,  and VEI ships freuently fall under this (tho they may change their designation to another fleet if they so desire for whatever operation they perform.  Most Order of Battles do not list these ships whatsoever.

Now an important note about fleets.  Why do we only have four primary fleets?  Is that enough ships?

First off there's two points I like to make.

1. A VE fleet is freaking huge.  We're not talking earth sized fleets here....  Our Task Force is the basic equivalent of an US Navy Fleet (and even then is notably larger).  Task Forces have the sheer power to keep a system free of enemy presence.  A Task Force easily has 200-300 ships (some might even have 400 or more).  A Superiority Task Force (yes they can specialize) can quite simply maintain space superiority in sectors with four or fewer worlds confirmed aggressively hostile to the VE, and no more than 16 additional worlds with confirmed significant hostile elements.
2. In 12 ABY the Imperial Remnant had little more than 200 star destroyers... Since this is more than just one faction pooling resources, the VE cannot compare to that sheer firepower alone.  However the VE has managed to set up basic shipyards to produce such ships (even if it takes a while).  From my best reasonable estimates, the VE has 30-35 star destroyers (excluding the Eclipse).  Most of these are flagships.  This is also why you will find the VE using an amazingly wide array of different ships, from the newly crafted Bothan Assault Frigates to even ships of the Galactic Republic days before it became the Empire.  You take what you can get when you need something fast.

So, let's run the math.... 38 Task Forces are employed.

(34 letters of the Aurebesh alphabet, but that's not a big deal, there is a work around when it comes to reserves, planetary militias, etc. Also of note the Seventh Fleet usually calls itself by the Greek alphabet "officially" while calling itself a member of any of the other fleets if forced to announce where it belongs).

Let's run with 34 star destroyers, most of them head up Task Forces, of which let's say 28 of the Task Forces are full militarily capable of operations and in the first two fleets.  I'll estimate we average 275 ships per task force here (high average should also include reserve/support ships that can be quickly prepared for operations).  That comes out to about 7,700 ships within the first two fleets alone.

Support, we got 4 "normal support" task forces, varying numbers, let's put them at about 500 military capable ships total.  Many of the ships here run logistics supply trains, communications, medical needs, etc.  There is another Task Force here assigned to the Eclipse with 3 star destroyers and full 400 military ship retinue.

Now in the fourth fleet... we'll ignore that, basically these are replacements.  There's two task forces here.

Planetary Militia?  Eh, not necessary, don't even count as Task Forces.  Expansionary Corps have 250 military ships, they usually only defend planets of colonial interest.

Seventh Fleet? Two Task Forces, could be more in the black op sense of the word, but for our purposes there's two.  Typically these are not full Task Forces in the sense of the word and only have upto 60 ships at most.  Let's roll with an estimate of 100.

So, that means the VE has the capabilities to field.... 8,950 military ships at once.  Of which only 34 are Star Destroyers.  Impressive nonetheless.
