The whining of the alarm clock lasted ten seconds before it was silenced, permanently. In it's last dying moments, Kanderin had happened to catch the time as 4.01AM, a whole four hours earlier than usual and six hours earlier than it should on a day off. It would take every ounce of restraint he could muster to not throttle Helena the moment he saw her. It was his idea to grab a quick vacation before they were blasted off on their next mission, but it was her idea to leave so early. They'd argued for some time, afterall Kand was a pilot and therefore they could leave whenever they wanted. But she was adamant, she refused to move from her decision and little less than a steamroller is capable of backing her down in that state.
He'd packed his bags the evening before, so all that was required was for him to haul them over to the hangar, where he agreed he would meet Helena after grabbing a quick breakfast. Raiding the mini-fridge on his desk, he found what appeared to be some sort of half eaten burger and a can of beer. It wasn't ideal but this early, he didn't care. Placing the burger into his mouth and clamping it there with his teeth, he quickly took his computer out of standby and fired off messages to Arnaut and Rizzit. Nothing special, just asking for a promise that if any of the Wraith's started a fire, they wouldn't sit back and laugh. He watched the bar in the bottom right confirm the messages were sent, before shutting it down and leaving the room.
The silence took him back initially, not a sound permeated his ears after he shut the door. Glancing left and right confirmed there was no life present, something that happened rarely on this side of the barracks. He was used to waking up to find a line of twenty people outside of Arnaut's office and promptly being harassed by at least half. This time, there was nothing. A faint snore could be heard through the door as he wandered past, which made him smile. At the next corner a maintenance droid suddenly provided him with company, firing off a mechanical "Morning Sir" while trying to balance the bin vertically, so that the rubbish all fell inwards.
"Aren't you a little...small to be doing that?" Kand responded.
"Yes sir, but Cleaning Droid 274 is in for repairs, and Cleaning Droid's 173 and 927 aren't activated until 11.50. Therefore, I must carry out the task's myself"
"Need any help?"
"No!" The robot shouted, wheeling back rapidly as Kanderin stepped towards him. It almost appeared to sweat, before composing itself and moving back towards the bin. "I'm fine Sir, but thankyou for the offer"
"Whatever you say" Kanderin shrugged, giving it a brisk wave and walking away.
"Strange thing" He muttered as he turned the corner, glancing back to see it still struggling to even remain upright while holding the bin.
