This list is done as per request of Art and posted for all to see.

It serves as an official guideline to what medals are legitimate and what their abbreviations would be within ID lines.  This list will be updated as new medals are approved into existence.  This list will also always supersede the wiki as to information about the medals.

Standard Naval Awards
  • Merit Awards
    • Imperial Grand Cross
      • The Imperial Grand Cross is the highest honor a member can obtain in the Vast Empire Navy. Recipients of the Grand Cross have demonstrated acts of ultimate bravery in the face of the enemy, performed constant service above and beyond the call of duty, and have significantly improved the entire fleet through their direct actions. Examples of such service would be to personally introducing an aspect to the fleet which proves to be instrumental in its growth or function overall. This medal can only be awarded by the Head of the High Council and the Naval Commander in Chief.
      • Abbreviation: [IGC]
    • Knight's Cross
      • The Knight's Cross is the second greatest honor a member can reasonably hope to achieve. Awarded to officers for constant long term extraordinary service and exceptional loyalty to the fleet, it is not given lightly. Exceptional Command Officers and Ship Captains will most often be the recipients of this medal, but not necessarily. Winners of the Knight's Cross most often are leaders who go beyond the line of duty in helping those in their unit and in the navy as a whole.  These officers are the ones who are instrumental in stimulating members to reach new heights in achievement and activity.  Each subsequent award upgrades the decorations. High Council Awards

    • The Medal of Honor is awarded to a person who distinguishes himself or herself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in action against an enemy of the Empire; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the Empire is not a belligerent party. The deed performed must have been one of personal bravery or self-sacrifice so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the individual above his or her comrades and must have involved risk of life. Incontestable proof of the performance of the service will be exacted and each recommendation for the award of this decoration will be considered on the standard of extraordinary merit. The Head of High Council may only bestow this medal/award.

  • Valorous Unit Award
    • The Valorous Unit Award is to be awarded to units of the Empire for extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the Empire is not a belligerent part for actions. The unit must have performed with marked distinction under difficult and hazardous conditions in accomplishing its mission so as to set it apart from the other units participating in the same conflict. The degree of heroism required is the same as that which would warrant award of the Medal of Honor to an individual. Extended periods of combat duty or participation in a large number of operational missions, either ground or air, is not sufficient. Units that have participated in single or successive actions covering relatively brief time spans will earn this award. It is not reasonable to presume that entire units can sustain Medal of Honor performance for extended time periods under the most unusual circumstances. Only on rare occasions will a unit larger than a battalion qualify for this award. A member of the High Council may only bestow this medal/award.
    • Abbreviation: [VUA]

Notes
  1. The award formerly know as Long Service Award is broken into tiers with the Naval Service Ribbon.
  2. The JCAP and SCAP were replaced by the Crusader's Laurel.
  3. The Letter of Commendation is also known as the Letter of Recognition on the wiki, and as the Letter of Commendation on the manual.  I determined the manual overruled the wiki and thus it is the Letter of Commendation above.
  4. There is an "Honourable Service Award" however no reference is found to it.  Possibly a campaign ribbon.

Notes
  1. The Aviator's Exam and it's senior counterparts do not have as many abbreviations as the ME or MA, if they should, then let me know and I can edit that.
  2. I assumed requirements for the ME, if they are incorrect, please let me know.
  3. The FOCE is excessively vague and from what I can determine there is no distinction for it?

Good work.  Now we can review and clarify the reasons for awarding where needed so that we have a better of idea of what can be given.  This is an effort to move beyond the constant streams of MC:1s.

CL - 8 is for 300 wins.  The Crusader's Laurel should be listed under the commendation title as well.  I will be unveiling a new gaming medal I've been working on that would be a merit one (tentatively called the Crescent of Fire).

I've got a question about one of the medals. I was awarded the Cross of Bravery and I was wondering about the pips thing on it.

You probably were awarded it with one pip.  Your entry would look like this: [.CBV]
Imperial Navy: Lieutenant Commander Corran Hargraves, Frigate Captain, Adjutant to the NCC

FC, NCCA/LCM Corran "Arturus" Hargraves/STC Doashim/1 Fleet/VEN/VE
(=A=)(=SA=)(=*MA*=)(=FCO=)(=JCPA=)(=SCPA=)[CL:5][MC:1](x3)[SV][BRC][VC:S][CBV][LoM](x2)[NS-7][LoR][GWC][LoC-DD][CM-PL]

Vast Empire Intelligence: Lieutenant Commander Corran Hargraves, Covert Operations Field Commander (Sigma Group)

COFC/LCM Corran "Arturus" Hargraves/STC Doashim/Sigma Group/COD/VEI/VE

Clearly Canadian!

I thought it was [BC], not [CBV].

# Cross of Bravery

    * The Cross of Bravery is a merit for those pilots who have repeatedly shown extreme dedication and loyalty to a Squadron or Wing over a long period of time and are consistently contributing new ideas for the Squadron or Wing. It may also be awarded for participating in fleet competitions. This medal can be awarded by Squadron Commanders.
    * Can be awarded pips.  Each pip is signified by a small picture of the medal on the black ribbon.
    * Abbreviation: [CBV]
o Pips may be represented with colons ( or periods (.) as follows: [CBV.], [CBV:], [.CBV.], [:CBV:]

Levels of the medal (like 2nd class, 1st class, etc).  In this case, the CBV has four levels.  I should check though, it may actually have 5 levels (the first being without pips).

"Can be awarded pips" suggests that the first awarding does not grant pips.

Yes, I agree with Riqimo, I would think this would indicate subsequent awards rather than levels of the award.
