Kanderin sighed as he slid the key for his room into the lock and turned the key, only to reveal the huge stack of paperwork on his desk. For a squad that hadn't done much in quite a long time, there was sure a lot of a signatures to write. He wandered over to the pile and filtered his way through the top two or three sheets, there was a request for leave he had yet to authorise, the squad report that he had to sign alongside Arnaut, and two or three new trooper applications. He picked up the latter and sighed, he'd seen far too many of them lately. He muttered the first two names on the front sheets, and grimaced again. he'd been ordered to trash those two applications, as they'd been another two that had snapped during training. He tossed them in the trash, which was already bulging with like applications. The problem nowadays was too many recruits that weren't fit for Wraith's harsh work.

Looking back to the pile, something caught his eye. There was a yellow sheet mixed in between the boring whites, so he pushed half the pile to the ground to be able to grab it. He'd clean it later.

With the amount of paperwork he had, Kand developed a very keen skim reading eye, meaning he could read a full A4 page picking up all the key data in about ten or twenty seconds. Platoon commander worried about lack of missions, wanted to test their metal, meet in simulation room at 05.00 hours on the 3rd. Tomorrow. 5am would be difficult to make considering he'd spent the last few weeks not rising until at least 11am, if at all. Least they were doing something.

Reaching for his comlink, he tapped a few buttons before speaking into it.

"All Wraiths, meet at the Simulation rooms at 04.55 tomorrow"

He sent it onto all the Wraith's comlink numbers and dropped it back into his pocket. It was still only 5pm, he had time to spare before he'd turn in for the night. He locked the room and left the base, heading for the local bar. He was hoping he'd find Snipes and crew there and be able to share a few drinks with them.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

"And that'd be when...Shut up shut up this is the good part....I told this wookie.... twenty seven foot tall remember...that he can shove his repeater where the sun don't shine!" Kand shouted, throwing his beer into the air. The weight of the glass however was enough to throw his inebriated self right off the bar he was standing on and into the arms of a man waiting for a drink.

"Hi there gorgeous! What's your name!" Kanderin winked.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The dull metallic drone of his alarm clock shook around the room, barely stirring Kanderin's still carcus in the corner of the room. He tried to reach out to turn it off, only to find out he had cacooned himself in the sheets and was well and truly stuck. A few curses and violent kicks later, and he was free. He reached for his alarm clock, his finger running around all the buttons, trying to remember which one turned it off. It'd of been a lot easier if his vision wasn't so fuzzy. He grew bored with it however and instead unplugged it and through it out the window.

His head was pounding like a circus drum, and he couldn't remember a thing about what happened last night. There was a yellow stickie label next to where the alarm used to be with the words 'Thanks for a great night honey, call me' and a number below it, so he assumed he has scored. He'd ring it later, when he had time.

What was he rushing for? The alarm had woken up, but he couldn't remember why. He was darting around looking for clothes, but he couldn't think why. His body seemed to be running on autopilot, waiting for his brain to catch up. He was still trying to work out why when he left the room and was marching down the hallway.

The simulation rooms arrived, and he suddenly remembered. Checking his watch, he was still five minutes early, which was a relief. Riqimo, their new platoon commander, was idly leaning against the wall chatting with Jennabelle and Wraith's newest recruit Helena. Kanderin was glad they had accepted her into Wraith's ranks with relative ease, he liked her a lot. Was nice to have a friend he knew from before his army days.

"Morning Kand, what happened to you?" Riqimo smiled, waving a hand down the hallway.

"What do you mean happened to me?" Kanderin inquired, before remembering he was speaking to the platoon commander "Sir"

"You look a real mess, haven't ironed those trousers by the looks of it"

"Oh come on, like I iron clothes" Kanderin grinned.

Riqimo shrugged and turned away, carrying on his conversation with the other two, who also passed him quick greetings.

"So what we doing today?" Kanderin called, taking a position against the wall next to Riqimo.

"Well, the commander here wants to test how combat fit we still are, so he's arranging a combat simulation for us inside. The tech's are working on it now" Jenn responded.

"Sound's good to me. Who we be fighting?" Kanderin yawned, keeping one eye open to watch for the reply.

"Thats the interesting part" Riqimo nodded to himself "You'll be fighting each other. Splitting the squad down the middle, it'll be Team Arnaut, vs Team Kanderin. I'll explain more once everyone's here"

OOC:
Been so long since I wrote last, so may be a little rusty.  I apologize in advance

New Platoon, and about seventy new pieces of datawork.  And that wasn't even the worst of it, Riq had yet to be assigned a secretary and he had to manage all the datawork on his own.  If there was anything Riqimo hated more than datawork, you'd be hard pressed to find it.

Looking for practically any excuse to get out of his office and away from the piles of datachips, Riq flicked on his computer console and browsed through the recent squad reports for something.  He was about to give up and go back to reading through the operating manual for the officer's lounge caf machine which was required reading for some odd reason before he noticed Wraith had been laying about their barracks for a while with nothing to do whatsoever, no drills, missions, or sims.  Quickly sliding his fingers across the keys, he started typing up a memo to Arnaut and Kanderin requiring them to attend a Sim that Doc would cash a few favors from the Tech department to get set up on a short notice.  With any luck he'd have a secretary by the time he had to get back to his datawork, if not... well, Darr would have to do.

Riq grinned as the rest of the squad caught up in the hall outside the sim room.  Helena and Jennabelle were the early ones, getting there even before Riq.  Kand was soon after, followed by the rest of the faces that Riq still had yet to put names to.  Arn was last, Riq expected that based upon their ARC operations together in the past.

“Anyways,” Riq pushed off against the wall as soon as Arn was within hearing distance, “As I said, team Arnie vs team Kandy-man.  But not in the way you may thing at first.  You're all aiming for the same objective, both of you will represent a special operations task force that will conduct sabotage runs against an enemy base.  The catch is that you are not working for the same factions, and both want the datacore downloaded then destroyed.  You know of an enemy special ops force after the same item, and as such you need to not only infiltrate the base and sabotage it, you need to keep an eye out for the other team.”

He paused a moment to let the briefing sink in, “I'll be the commanding officer of the base you both are trying to strike against.  We will be expecting attacks, however you folks can choose your plan of attack as you see fit.  Night time is the only requirement, however you have four hours until nightfall to scout.  I'll also provide you with a map of the base.  Your equipment is up to you, within reason of course.”

Riq gave a final smirk before sliding into the sim room to claim a machine, “Any questions you'll have to find out the hard way, good luck Wraiths.”

The center area of buildings is obviously the walled base.  The smaller cluster of buildings is a spaceport, not walled.  It's on a hill, with a cliff on on one side.

The density of the trees on the map represents either light forest or heavy forest (you can figure which is which).  Water is easy enough.  Roads too.  Any questions on the map or story ask on the Wraith's topic.  Let's have some fun!

RK ran down the hall faster than a normal human should, he was short on breath, but he had to get to the simulation room before Arnaut or the new PC,Riqimo, noticed he was missing. I’m not terribly late, but I know Riq, he’s going to make the introduction as short as possible.

He continued to run, dodging officers and guards as he continued on his way. Twice he had to stop just keep from a disastrous collision. He had been threatened of demotion numerous times by officers, but he didn’t care, his main objective was to get to the sim room, then deal with whatever else.

It had been a while since Wraith had gotten any action. When RK had gotten the message about the simulation he could hardly contain his excitement. He almost broke his window jumping up and down. He felt like a child in a candy store when he had heard about it.

RK started to slow down as he rounded the corner. The Simulation room was straight in front of him. I hope I’m not late. He opened the door. A small hiss could be heard, which startled him slightly, but he regained his composure after a while.  He took two steps inside, instantly realizing all eyes were on him. “I’m not late am I?”

“As a matter of fact, yes. You just missed Riqimo’s introduction.” Jenn said.

Slowly a sheepish smile spread across RK’s face, he wouldn’t admit it, but he was actually sorry he had missed it. Specially since Riqimo was his old SL. “I suppose a ‘I’m Sorry’ is in order.”

“Actually, don’t worry about it, let’s all just get this started. RK you can figure it out as we go along.” Arnaut said, slipping away towards the simulators.

RK mentally slapped himself. He had never been late, but he was this time. Just let it go and get through the training simulator, regardless of whether you know what’s going on or not. He woke up to reality and followed behind Kand.

He didn’t want to let his team down, but he had already put away in his mind that he had. Being late wasn’t acceptable in his book, but it couldn’t be helped it was over and done with.Just don’t mess up in the mission, and you will be fine. The thought didn’t comfort him any.

“RK, your with my team, you’ll figure out who else is with us when you get into the Simulation.” Kand said, heading towards a Simulator in the back.

RK selected a machine not to far away from his team leader. He hoped it was one of those mission that you caught onto quickly, if it wasn’t he would be in deep trouble. He had never done a simulation before, although he had come close a while back when he was in Jester. So this whole thing was new to him. He hoped it wasn’t to hard, maybe it would feel like a real live thing.

I just hope it doesn’t hurt.

Insertion point was a small group of sheds, roughly four clicks to the northeast from the base, deep in the forest. At one time they’d served, collectively, as a power station, but now they were run-down and overgrown. At least, that’s how the simulation’s creator had made them.

Arnaut poked around the buildings, but, upon finding them empty, decided it was best to get moving. In the sky, the sun was already starting its descent toward the horizon. Roughly three and a half hours left, if Arnaut was any judge. More than enough time to make it to the base. Finding a route was another matter entirely, though. He keyed his comlink.

“Bravo team, on me.” Short, simple, and, if picked up by the base not too far down the hill, not too revealing.

Arnaut trotted to the center shed, his kit-bag slung over one shoulder of his black bodyglove. The suit, woven from shadowsilk, and aptly named a shadowsuit, covered Arnaut’s body, head to toe. The only strip of visible skin was at his eyes, and, with the goggles on, even that could disappear. It felt...odd, to say the least. After working with stormtrooper special operations armor for so long, it was odd to run a simulation using the shadowsuits again. But this was part of their required role as a special operations squad, Arnaut reminded himself. However much he didn’t enjoy it.

It wasn’t that the suit didn’t fit well. It did. It was made to...this was a simulation, after all. It’s just that it was disconcerting to walk and hear no sound at all, to look down and barely be able to make out the outline of your own body. The shadowsilk passively absorbed light and dampened sound, making Arnaut like unto his name: silent and invisible. It just wore down on the nerves after a while, that was all.

The main shed was dusty, cramped, and smelled faintly of rotting wood. Around the edge of the room were large, bulky machines filled with lights that had been dead for many years, so heavily covered in dust that it was impossible to determine their original purpose. The main reason Arnaut had chosen the shed, though, was the large table that dominated its center, and, better yet, the accompanying chairs. They were the only chairs in the entire group of buildings.

Arnaut took a seat and began rifling through his bag. When he looked back up, the other four members of his team were already seated. Arnaut hadn’t heard them come in and, in fact, could only tell that they were there at all because they’d all taken off their masks. They resembled a bunch of floating heads, hovering at the edges of the table.  Arnaut shook off the crawling feeling at the back of his mind and through a holoprojector onto the table. It lit up, displaying the topography of their area of operations as a shimmering blue map.

“This,” Arnaut began, gesturing at the rotating, 3D map, “is our AO. That big thing is the base, those small things are the buildings of the space port and the little glowy thingy is us and our village.”

“Technically speaking, of course, Sarge?” Private First Class Koll joked. Arnaut hadn’t known the zabrak for too long, but his acerbic humor was...catching.

“Of course,” Arnaut chuckled. He reached out to the pad on the table and hit two buttons. The map zoomed in, so that all that could be seen was the small group of huts Bravo team occupied, and the edge of the base. The walls rose up toward the sky, towering above to glittering blue trees that collected around their base.

“We’re going to travel by the forest, all the way to the base. This is the only point of the base where the forest directly touches it. We can use that to our advantage.” He tapped two more buttons, and suddenly, small crimson dots appeared amidst the trees, moving in packs, as if hunting. Which they were.

“This is the most heavily patrolled exterior part of the base. They’ve got the entire area covered, eight patrols in all. Good thing is that they follow a very rigid, very unchanging patrol route. I figure we can slip through the gaps pretty easily enough.

“As you’ll notice, our load-out is not what we’re used to. Silenced slugthrower pistols, for one. Three knives apiece. IR/NV goggles. This was the stuff you learned with back at the beginning of special operations training, and for good reason. This is to be a clean operation. No alarm triggers, no spooking the base. Just a quick insertion, retrieval, and extraction, hopefully before Kand’s Alpha Team gets there. Lethal force is allowed, especially on the other special operations team. This objective is mutually exclusive, not inclusive. We don’t win if they get it first.

Other than that, all I can say is...good luck. Bring all your training to bear, because we’re up against, basically, ourselves. Now let’s get out there and get some data!” There was a short oo-rah, before they slipped on their masks, gathered their kit bags up, and made their way from the group of buildings, heading downhill.

The hut returned to its decay, not noticing that anyone had ever stepped inside it.

OOC:
Alright, this is going to be a straightforward, easy mission to give y'all something to do while we wait for the AWOL check to end, the platoon story to start, and for me to actually get writing on the last part of our Three Story Awesome Arc of Awesomeness. Or...whatever the hell we named that thing. The last story will be up after the Platoon Story, but for now...we have this. Hold nothing back, for you have nothing to lose! Bring all your pseudo special operation training to bear, as well as your best writing talent. Consider it a...competition of sorts.

Also, we are wearing shadowsuits. Look them up in the Imperial Center Store for a description. Basically, though, we look like this.

We only have two little round things on our goggles, though. And they're blue...or something like blue.

Also, a click is equivalent to a kilometer, but sounds a heckuva lot cooler.

Our load-out is simple. We have silenced slugthrowers (no lasers; too loud, too bright) and knives, and small, sound dampened explosives, and Infared (IR) and night vision (NV) capable goggles (see above). If you think anything else should be added to the load-out list, please tell me.

Team Bravo (My team) deployed in the top right corner, near the road. Team Alpha (A temporary name for Kand's team) can deploy wherever you want, so long as it's not where we are. I can change the name later if you don't like it, as well so...yeah, PM me. Anyone.

I'm thinking this mission can play out Splinter Cell-esque...but that's just me.

Umm...all I can think of right now. PM me with questions, or go to IRC.

Helena wasn’t very sure of what was happening. That was her flaw, not listening very well, she knew she had to go on a simulation of some sort, but she didn’t know what it would involve. After all, she’d never done one before, she was still new to all this.

She looked towards Kand and smiled. Knowing he was in her team comforted her. Having someone there she knew previously, showing her the ropes of her new squad, was the best thing that could have happened to her. She liked Kanderin, he was easy to open up to, and that’s why she went looking for him in the first place.

“Do I seriously have to wear this?” She laughed, touching her sides and backside.

“It’s a bit… Tight fitting wouldn’t you say?”

Kand spun her round and checked out the shadow suit, making sure everything was in check. The black shadow silk made the suit hard to see, but that was its purpose. It was to absorb the light and sound, making it hard for the enemy to see or hear them. Helena found it strange compared to the old noisy suit she had become a custom to.

“I know it may seem a little tight, but you’ll get used to it. It’s actual quite flattering” He smirked whilst touching his own body in the suit.

They both laughed and looked towards RK, who seemed to be having trouble getting the suit on. He had the goggles on backwards and seemed to have the actual suit on back to front.

“I don’t know why you’re both laughing, this thing is complicated” RK stated as he stood there out of breath from trying to sort it out.

That made both Kanderin and Helena laugh even more. Once Kanderin had helped RK out on the suit problem, he explained the mission more clearly; making sure Helena knew what she was doing by the end of it.

Helena clutched a locket in her front pocket of her shadow suit. She never went anywhere without it. It was far too precious to leave behind anywhere. As she clutched it she looked back towards Kanderin and smiled lightly before letting it go, making sure it was securely in her pocket and not about to escape.

“You okay Helena? You seem out of it today” Kand questioned, placing his hand delicately on her shoulder from behind.

Helena tried so hard not to show fear; she turned to face Kand and smiled.

“I’m fine honestly, now when are we going to make our first move, time isn’t on our side at the moment.” She laughed lightly, secretly wiping a tear from her eye.

Kand nodded in agreement, trying to find the map he had been given to try and locate our location.

Jenny checked out her equipment as she moved out, two knives in hand. She loved the shadowsuit that she had on, it made her light and able to make cat like moves that she couldn't normally do in her clone or stormtrooper armor, plus her footsteps couldn't be heard at all, and that was an extra added bonus. The knives were edged like those of a combat knife and could easily cut someone's throat out. The pistol was nice and clean, prepared for the silent mission that lay ahead. and the NV and IR goggles seemed great too, able to see in the environment a bit better and spot enemies and friendlies with its infrared rays.

She followed behind Arnaut as he moved among the patrols of the guards, their patrol route remembered well in his head, for he moved with agility and smartness, as soon as the guards left out the gaps for them to go in, but then came this one guard who suddenly went to peeing on the trees, 5 feet away from their position. Oh, god, I hope the tree benefits from this, cause he does, heh..... Anyways, looks like we'll have to kill him to get through, he's going to notice us pass by with these goggles on, I hope no one notices a dead guard. Jenny thought, gathering herself ready for a fight as she

"Oh, crap, we're about a click in and this kind of thing happens, those technicians or even Doc really wants to surprise us. And I can bet, with his experience and my understand of him, it's definitely Doc if he understands special force training so much." Arnaut whispered as he thought of what to do, looking around, possibly for a spot to throw him, when he spotted tons of bottles of ale beside him, some empty, but most full, and quite a bit of cigar butts and a cigarette hanging out from his mouth, slowly puffing it. Jenny heard Arnaut then give out his plan, starting from his inference of the guard and his lung and liver problem:

"That can kill a man, especially in his age of, I'm guessing, late 40s or so, if he has a habit of drinking from at about 16 or something like that, which I can bet he does to drive away the stress during the army training, plus all the special training to get to guard this important of a base. With no guards within a mile and him wandering to that tree with leisure, I guess the only opinion is that we choke him to death and pretend it was a over dose of alcohol in his systems, with that much drinks, even a doctor could make that conclusion. I'll do it since I have the medical background, Jenny, cover me while I do so, and if anyone comes, don't get close to them and leave them to me. The rest of you, stay where you are and don't make a noise or sound, you'll be fine where you are."

"Yeah, as long as no one looks back and sees a couple of blue eyes."

"Alright, let's go." Jenny whispered back as she followed slowly with Arnaut to the man peeing by the trees.

After that she stopped on arnaut's pat, and watched for guards wandering by, which were none except a young guard coming close to the tree, seeing the old guard downing great amount of alcohol with great increase of pleasure on his face and sitting nearby the tree, and said joyfully:

"Wow, you look like you're enjoying that, let me have some."

"Nah, I don't think so, I'm feeling quite pitful and really need a drink." The old man forced out some words after his sixth drink, most likely fed by Arnaut with his left arm held around the guy's neck, and goggles stuffed inside Jenny's suit, plus the pistol hidden in the sleeve held by his right hand trained on the back of his head. The old man was looking disgraced at himself and ignorant of his friend's suggestions, raising his weapons at him as his friend advised:

"Dude, you got to stop drinking, you'll kill yourself if you keep going, you know what the doctor said about your condition, you'd die right now if that much and smoke that many cigarettes."

"Look, I've got some crappy business happening with me, right now, and this is the only way to deal with it, so don't question me, I'm higher than you." The old man said clearly as the his friend still asked for a drink and he refused, pulling out a knife with his free right hand.

"What the hell, man? I just wanted a drink, why don't you ever share your drinks with someone else? Damn, what kind of friend are you if you don't? That's what I hate about you, always so selfish, with me and with other people, especially women, what's wrong with them. Is it the influence of your wife or something that made you this way, weird...." The young man confonted him, getting up in his face as the old man pushed him back and said again clearly, getting more angrier by his discovery by the second:

"Like I said, crappy business, now back off or you'll get yours and that girlfriend of yours will get hers, heheheheheh!" The man said maniacally as his young friend couldn't take it getting personal and punched the old man in the cheek, yelling as he got up, walking back a bit:

"Melke is not part of this, stop talking about her, you fricking bastard!"

"Don't ever call me that, my father was a great man and---" The old man now got up and argued back too, Arnaut's gun still trained on the back of his head, as the old man got punched again, this time in the cheek as both of them attacked each other and Arnaut quickly gestured Jenny to gesture the squad to get over to his position. Jenny did so and they went by the two men, hardly looking up at the floating eyes quickly passing by them, still placing punches at each other as the old man spiked a bottle on the his young friend's head, knocking him unconcious. Then as Jenny and the rest of the team made their way over to Arnaut, she saw the old man spitting down and crushed a cigarette butt on his wounded head, possibly making it worse. After that she caught someone, a female guard coming out of the shadows, firing two shots to the old man's head as he got up and patted himself to possibly end his misery

"Traitor, you should've never come to our land under false pretenses and hurt my man, I'm not weak, you know." the women guard said smoothly, firing two more shots from her rifle to make sure she was dead as Arnaut chuckled and moved them on, commenting quietly as he did:

"Hmm.... quite the interesting women, and resourceful too, she must have known he was a traitor before she pulled the trigger. Well, this'll make quite the commotion for the nearby guards, our gap is getting larger and larger. Let's go."

Helena laughed as Kanderin finally whipped out a pod from his backpack. It was metallic and seemed spherical with many buttons on the one side. After Kand had pressed a few of the brightly lit buttons in a sequence, the sphere popped open on its hinges. This revealed a holographic 3D map. Helena hadn’t seen one of these up close before. She was used to the old fashion instinct map. She looked at it bewildered.

Kanderin had pointed out the blue sparkly arrow which showed where we were located, the blue water and streams which seemed to be running through dense forests, and a huge red arrow which showed the location we needed to get to. They were on the far left of the map, situated in the dense forest, which had a river running right through the middle of it.

Helena coughed, she wasn’t that keen on water, and she hoped she wasn’t going to be sailing or swimming anytime soon.

She looked around at the other team members who seemed to be packing up their backpacks ready to set off. Each had set packs created for the simulation and each had the same.

The sun seemed to be just hitting the horizon; the pastel warm colours filling the entire sky seemed to be fading. She knew there wasn’t much time left, from first guess, she’d say around four hours. That was enough time to at least get their bearings and actually get to the location.

Helena made her way over to Kanderin, stroking his arm for her own comfort.

“We will get there on time won’t we?” She smiled lightly.

Kand seemed to have his eyes locked on her hand being there and looked uneasy, so she removed it, returning to an “embarrassed pose”. Her pale cheeks became rosy, due to her embarrassment.

“Uh, yeah! Course we will” he hesitated, still taken a back by her actions.

Helena nodded before informing the others on their movement. The team picked up their backpacks and headed off towards the south, following the river to the Mouth. Helena gulped with fear.

"So...let me get this straight, whats the plan again?"

Kanderin looked back at RK, who had finally got his equipment together and was making ground on them. The fact he hadn't been able to hear RK approach, even when he wasn't trying to hide his presence worried him slightly. It wasn't overly disastrous right now though, it would be a while before they went into full stealth mode.

"Radar's have shown me that a boat is moored just a few hundred yards down the coast. We'll make our way down the river in it, to a refuelling station a mile or two further on. We take control of it, and then hijack the next convoy coming through"

"You make it sound simple" Helena sighed

"Come on, we're Wraiths, course its easy" Kanderin winked back.

"Cant we just walk in?" She asked

"Not really, I mean look at what we're wearing, we're not exactly dressed to be on a day trip through the forest"

Helena looked down at her tight fitting black armour, and realised Kand had a point. No one talked again for the remainder of the walk. They weren't frightened, afterall it was only a simulation and there was no real danger. It was more anticipation as to what was going to happen next. They were team Kand, led by the ASL of the squad. They were trying to break into a base led by Riqimo, the platoon commander. The experience gap was huge, and wasn't made any better by the fact it was also a race against Team Arn. Arnaut, Wraith's squad leader and someone with many years of leadership experience. And Kanderin, years of experience of following whatever Arnaut said.

The boat finally came into view, but it didn't inspire hope in the squad. They hoped it was the wrong boat, actually. It was no longer than two or three metres, a dark mouldy brown and one very rusted engine barely hanging onto the back.

"What were you expecting, a cruise liner?" Kanderin called, pulling the rope attached to a log on the waters edge and dragging the ship in closer.

"Sure that thing's going to take our weight?" Sadevare grumbled, kicking it as it came in closer.

"I think so" Kanderin replied.

Helena’s smile instantly disappeared as soon as she heard they were planning on going up stream in a boat. Her fear of water was getting the better of her as she began to shake. Her palms began to sweat and her knees were knocking together, getting more and more frequent as the boat come closer.

“Uh, I-I don’t think I’ll fit, I’ll walk along side” She muttered, trying to get herself out of it.

“Nonsense! What are you afraid of, Water?” Kand smirked.

”If only you knew”

“Uh no, I-I just like to be in luxury” She half heartedly laughed.

The team more or less forced her on the boat. Her feet were planted on the ground but each member picked up a limb and more or less threw her aboard.

“Now, if you are going to vomit, please aim it off the side of the boat. I’d like to save time, and not be cleaning it up” Kand laughed before pushing the boat off shore.

Riq had materialized out of thin air into the command center.  Apparently his lower legs and feet were still catching up, as he seemed to have had been amputated at the knees and was floating above the ground.  The simulated personnel didn't seem to notice though and Riq shrugged it off.  One should expect a few bugs in a hastily reprogrammed sim; and as long as they were minor Riq didn't mind.

'Floating' over to the tactical map, Riqimo tapped the soldier stationed there on the shoulder slightly, “Corporal, what's the current situation?”

The man turned his head to see who was speaking at first before giving a quick salute which caused Riq to grind his teeth slightly.  Riq hated this system of saluting a superior about every single minute.  It was distracting to say the least, and certainly inefficient.  He let it pass this time.

“We have two enemy forces dug in about 50 kilometers out, one to the northeast, one to the east.  Both have estimated unit strength of 8,000.  Patrols report no movements coming in.”

“Beef them up a little, double paygrade for this month for those that locate any enemy movement and report it,” Riq smirked as he planned to make things a bit harder for the Wraiths.  “Their best bets are to send in a small strike team to hit the base and weaken the defenses for the larger force.  I want patrols on the roads, along the walls, through the forest paths, and ration out the thermal cameras as you see fit.”

“Yes sir,” the man gave another salute and scurried off to relay the orders.

Riqimo slid into the seat just as his legs had finally materialized into the simulation.  He'd have to get a better look at the terrain around this base if he was to estimate the approaches of the Wraiths and tactically respond to them.

“Oh and mobilize the speeders, I want four groups of two on patrol,” he shouted over his shoulder to the leaving tech, “equipped with mounted spot lights if you will, then deploy them in two hours.”  Laying back in the chair the commander gave a brief sigh, three and half hours til sundown where the Wraiths will then begin their attacks against the defenses Riq was trying to mobilize.  Let's see who lady luck favors tonight...

RK was shocked that the simulator seemed so real, and the fact it didn’t hurt actually shocked him the most. However, it was still all too real; every touch, every sound, it was all crystal clear. I just hope it doesn’t hurt to get shot.

They continued down the stream at a steady pace, small splashes of water jumping up every once and a while; it was cool, startling RK even more about the realism of the Sim. It wasn’t any different then real life, but at the same time it was.

RK moved back to looking in front. He was starting to get excited the closer they got, in all honestly he just wanted to find a convoy and get behind the controls of whatever they had, hopefully it would be something he enjoyed driving.

“How much longer?” RK asked, hoping Kand had some idea of where they were.

“We will get there when we get there.” Kand said, still keeping himself glued on taking in the surroundings.

“Great….” RK heard Helena mumble from behind him. He was thinking the same thing.

Slowly, very slowly, the sun began to set. The shadows lengthened, deepened, and eventually covered the entirety of the ground in an inky black darkness. Through the dark, shapes moved. They resembled bright blue orbs of light, bobbing gently as they made their way amongst the trees. Two, four, ten in all.

They were the aptly named Wraiths. They moved without a sound, without being seen, invisible and insubstantial. It was an empowering feeling, Arnaut thought. The thought disturbed him. Empowerment could be a bad thing. Empowerment led to cockiness, and, cockiness lead to oversight, and oversight led to, ultimately, death. Arnaut reminded himself many times just how vulnerable he actually was in the suit. One shot could lay him down, if it took him in the torso, or head, or even one to an artery in the arm or leg. He didn’t have the kind of protection that the normal special operations armor provided, not by a long shot.

His feeling of empowerment vanished as surely as it had come, leaving him feeling cold and unprotected in the permeable darkness of the forest. He quickly glanced behind him to make sure he was still with his team. They were all there, just like he knew they’d be. He’d...just had to make sure. That’s all. It was what good Squad Leaders did. He wasn’t losing his nerve at all.

When he turned back around, he found himself face to face with an enemy patrol. Well, their faces to his, though not so much the other way around. They were huddled together, discussing fiercely a holo-map one was holding in the center of the group. All of the patrol, save one. The point-man, standing roughly ten feet from Arnaut, peered intently into the shadows, obviously seeing something just above Arnaut’s eyes. Oh shit, the goggles. Arnaut hit the ground, stuffing dirt over his neon blue orbs of light. Behind him, the four other members of his team mostly did the same. Mostly. Orrix, the newest member, apparently didn’t see the rest of his team hit the dirt, and stared straight ahead, directly into the eyes of the enemy. And the barrel of the man’s gun.

“Oh sh—” Arnaut thought aloud this time, a split second before the blaster bolt tore through the night. For a single, tiny moment, the bolt illuminated the ground, trees, the leaves, all except for the five very dark, very humanoid shaped outlines that seemed to be made of night itself, crouching low to the ground. In that instant, the guard realized what was happening. He screamed, his yell more of fear than of warning, but working all the same.

There was a sharp whip-tuk noise and the man’s head jerked back, a smoking hole where his nose should’ve been.  He collapsed in a heap just as the rest of the team began to open fire. They weren’t shooting directly at the Wraiths, as they really couldn’t see them at all, but it was close enough to count. Arnaut rolled behind a tree, pistol smoking, and began counting off in his head. At this point, the group was firing out of self defense and fear. The fact that they might report in the encounter probably hadn’t yet entered their minds. Which meant that Bravo Team had maybe...thirty seconds before things really got bad. Silencing a team of ten – well, nine, with the one dead – did not happen in thirty seconds. Not efficiently. Still, out of all his options, and by all he meant none, this was the best.

“Aim for the heads and but get them down however you can. As quick as possible; the longer they’re alive, the longer they have to call this in.” The squad seemed to understand: as one, they peeled from cover and unloaded rounds into the hapless patrol. Arnaut saw two men keel over, their torsos shredded. Another man fell back against a tree clutching his throat. Blood leaked between the gaps of his fingers, a crimson waterfall that ended in a sea around his feet. Arnaut raised his gun, took aim, and blew out the right shoulder of a fleeing guard. He stumbled, grasping at his now useless appendage, and tried to turn. Two more shots and he was on his back, never to move again.

And then it was over. They were all dead or dying, splayed on the ground. The scent of blood hung heavy in the air, cloying at Arnaut’s senses. Damn simulations were getting uncannily realistic. He walked over to the butchered squad, and was about to start the necessary business of hiding the bodies when he heard it. A faint crackling at first, then a man’s voice, very distant and slightly tinny. It took him a whole minute and a half to trace it back to a wrist communicator on one of the dead man’s uniforms. He must have activated it during the fight.

“Jenson....Jenson, do you copy? Jenson? I heard gunfire. Jenson, is everything alright?” Arnaut stooped down low, grabbing the wrist comlink, and hesitated for a second. He didn’t know what Jenson’s voice sounded like! The man was becoming impatient, though, and finally making up his mind, Arnaut hid the send key.

“Uh, everything’s fine. Just...just fine. Thought we saw something, just shadows though.”

“Jenson? Who is this? This doesn’t sound like—”

“What is—kssh—so sorry—ksssh—breaking up—kssh—can’t hear...” Arnaut trailed off and smashed the comlink with his fist.

Looking up, he found eight blue orbs staring down at him, almost expectantly. He stared back for a silent moment before finally speaking.

“We’ve got a big problem,” Arnaut admitted to the darkness.

"You know, chief, I just love it when you say that," Koll said in a hushed whisper. This was supposed to be a simulation, not a deathdance in hell. Koll had seen enough blood on their assignment in Corellia. And those creatures.... Koll shook his head to rid his thoughts of the beasts. "What now, sir?" Koll asked, finally remembering the honorific.

"We get out of here as quickly as possible, Private," Arnaut returned. The slight was minor, but those two words meant either the SL was losing his nerve slowly, or he didn't like Koll's tone. Not caring either way, Koll followed his leader in a low crouch.

Darkness slowly crept around the squad, their suits hiding them all but their goggles. Koll dropped his down around his face, the world immediately taking a reddish tint, but allowing him to see better. He wished he was back in his fiber optic stealth suit, but, again, this was a simulation. Riq had control over what they did and didn't have. Finally, the squad crested the hill in front of them. Below lay visible a valley with numerous troop outposts dotting the landscape. This was going to be a little tough. Not to mention the patrols in the way, the walls, and the main facility on a slightly raised slope behind said walls. "This sim just gets better and better, don't it boss?" Koll asked, staring down at the ground below.

"Those walls look pretty thick," came a voice from behind them, one of the squadmates.

"Sure do," Koll said, whislting lightly. "A nice explosion might crack'em open nice, though."

"We;ll search the next patrol we meet for supplies, especially anything we can make an IED out of," Arnaut said, still observing the lay of the land. "Make that two IEDs."

"Two, sir?" Koll inquired, raising the arc of his eye ever so slightly. Sure, no one could really see it, but Koll enjoyed the effect. Arnaut only looked at him, and if Koll didn't know any better, he coulld have swore he saw a twinkle in his eye.

The motion of the boat seemed to be rocking like a baby’s cot. It was turned Helena’s stomach inside out. Her pale complexion couldn’t have gone any more paler in colour. Every now and again, when the boat would hit a bit turn in the water, her cheeks would reflect a lime green colour, and that’s when she would have to run to the edge of the boat.

“I can’t take anymore of this Kand, I really can’t” She shouted loudly, trying to be heard over the motor and rubbing her sleeve over her mouth, wiping away the remains of her breakfast she just had come straight back up.

“I’m glad you got that over the side, and I couldn’t tell you how long we’d be because I’d be lying” Kand winked and chuckled, wiping the bead of sweat from Helena’s forehead which trailed down by her eye.

The surroundings seemed different to those which they had set off. The trees seemed to be over hanging the swamp like river, the ground seemed to be like sanded down grass, not the most unusual combination, but still different to the grass they were used to. The vines hanging from the trees made the area look like a jungle. The temperature backed up that theory.

The boat rocked from side to side, the backpacks moved with the motion, the team moved with the motion, and Helena was being sick to the motion. Helena’s vision blurred slightly as she began to feel more and more dizzy, as if she was about to pass out. Her legs started to shake and she went pale again once more.

“Argh, when is this going to end?!” Helena questioned, picking her head up from the side.

“Not much further, I promise” Kand smiled, rubbing Helena’s back as she once again wretched.

IED, that word was like talking death to Jenny, she had almost gotten into a speeder rigged with a car bomb and her first boyfriend, Tenron Skytrin had done the damage well with the death of her jogging mate, Kona Ara, one of the reasons she left him for Bunt. If she only had Leia with her, Leia was quite the expert when it came to IEDs, her parents died with the set off of a car bomb that they never expected, giving Leia quite the birthday present. After what happened she used her knowledge of an computer wiz to learn more about IEDs, what they are, how they are made and disarmed, etc. She not only acquired the info from there, she also took engineer classes that talk about them sometimes, for they are the best weapons of terrorists. I've always had a fear of dying by a IED, now I'm giving that fear hopefully to those enemy down below, for that is what once commandos have done, and wraith will do now, create fear in men. Jenny thought understandingly and fatefully as she held the knives tight in her hands, Arnaut looked at her wandering thoughts with curiosity as she merely answered his looks with quiet whispering:

"I'm fine, Arnaut, you don't have to worry about me, just concentrate on making that bomb and blowing the wall up. I think you might create some fear and tension among the enemy, for that once worked with me one time."

"Alright, let's get going, keep close behind me and do what I do, don't try anything stupid and get us revealed, we're at the crucial point in this mission, we need to create 2 IED so that we can blow up that base wall, now get going!" Arnaut said quietly and orderly as the words hardly escaped him before he went carefully on a route down the hill, Jenny and the others following behind.

Jenny only heard occasional conversations as she passed the patrols who'd stopped for a smoke or drink, mostly about what happened with the old guard and the young man, identified now as Savcen Leeell and Anaan Qualqus, laughs about the female girlfriend, Melke, saving Anaan from harm, hating how she was mocked when she did what she would do for anyone during a critical moment, Jenny would have done the same had it been in her shoes. She tried not to let it distract her or make her pissed and kept moving with Arnaut through the woodwork of the patrol routes until soon, down the hill, and around a couple of guard outposts, they came upon a patrol with two well-armored troopers carrying supplies with great care, with DC-17 rifles shouldered and ready to fire, blaster pistol and two vibroblades strapped on their belts, to the camp marked munitions.

"Well, we found our guys. I think we should go check out their munitions, see if they have any explosives and/or detonators, for I think it'll make quite the fireworks and as Jenny said, probably give those men quite the scare. Alright, follow me, we'll deal with them at the camp, we can't risk alerting the guards on the outposts here, so we'll go where they're going." Arnaut relayed silently so that only the squad could hear, based on his inferences from the looks of the supplies they were carrying. He added to Orrix, the newest member as he stressed quickly: "No riffraffs, we don't want to mess up on the most critical part of the mission, concentration, smartness, determination, luck is our best bet for a win on this, so let's get going."

They avoided some patrol and stationary weapon on the way by following the side of a supply truck heading the same direction, giving them more chance to getting to the munitions depot, which they'd hoped there would be explosives and/or detonators to help them make the two IED they wanted. Jenny knew that this was a crucial moment and things would get quite close, so she gripped the knives tight in her palm, ready to slash out at any moment.

OOC:
I'll leave the rest to Arnaut, I know he can find a good engineer out of our team to do this, and it's better if he did this next part, I think, if you guys all get my meaning. I just don't want to move the story too much, 'cause I'd hate to cause a riff.

The ride down the river was starting to get very boring. Not a word had been said for a long time and it was starting to drive RK insane, and seeing as the only sound was Helena occasionally vomiting over the side of the boat it was really starting to bug him. When will this ride end?

“When will this ride end!?!” RK said, not even realizing he had blurted out his very thought.

“As a matter of fact we are almost there.” Kanderin said. Pointing towards the landing site.

“Finally!” Helena exclaimed; she was already skirmishing to the side of the boat she would be able to get off the fastest, and first for that matter.

After a long moment of silence, they hit land. Helena didn’t even wait for the rest of them; as soon as they hit land she scrambled off the boat, heading for the farthest place she could go. RK started snickering, but was cut off when Kanderin glanced at him, who then looked back to what he was doing, whilst shaking his head.

Eventually they were all on dry land. They took a moment to let everyone gather their stuff and take a quick rest, but they were up and moving within a matter of minutes.

They continued through the jungle to where they were going to meet up with the convoy. The closer they got, the harder it became for RK to hold in his excitement; he did anyway.

“alright, keep close, the convoy should be just up here.” Kanderin said motioning his hands forward.

RK picked up his pace, coming up behind Kanderin and Helena. The other two squad mates instead just kept where they were at, conversing quietly with each other. It wouldn’t be much longer and they would be breaking through the trees.

After about another three minutes of walking they did just that. They all stood there for a while, looking around.

“I don’t’ see----” RK started, only to get cut off.

“Shut up and get down, they are coming.” Kanderin barked. Nobody questioned him, doing exactly has he had ordered.

Charges. Check. Detonator. Check. Remote receiver. Check. Demolition-man.

Demolition-man.

“Whose gonna blow these walls?” Arnaut hissed into the comlink. Koll jumped, his thoughts interrupted.

“Me, sir, sorry, sir.” He scrambled forward and took the detonator from Arnaut’s outstretched hand.

“On five,” Arnaut commanded, staring at Koll directly in the eyes. Koll nodded. “Five. Four. Three.”

A beam of light, white and intense, washed across the group and the last numbers died in Arnaut’s throat. They hadn’t even seen the speeder sneak up, busy as they were mining the wall. It hovered not thirty feet from the squad, painted matte-black and green, the searchlight on its back sweeping through the dense foliage. Four men were in the vehicle, all in the same drab fatigues as the patrol squad that had stumbled upon Bravo Team earlier. A side gunner, bearing a familiar looking A-280, a rear gunner, manning a heavily modified E-Web grafted on the back of the speeder, a searchlight operator, and one, very, very bored driver. So far, they didn't seem to have noticed Arnaut's team.

“Alright,” Arnaut whispered, very slowly. “Pull off your goggles and back away very slowly. As long as they don’t have IR scanners, we should be safe.” And if they did, Bravo team was screwed, but you took what you could get. The squad nodded in compliance, and began to back away into the shadows. They’d only put another ten feet between them and the vehicle when, suddenly, the driver snapped to and tapped at a unseen panel on his speeder. The other three men leaned in to look, and Arnaut got that sinking feeling he always got before a firefight. Slowly, deliberately, he pulled up his gun and trained it on the turret-gunner’s head. Speeder's had been known to sport thermal cameras on their noses, wired to a screen in the vehicle itself. If that was what they were looking at...

As one, the members of the craft looked up, then back at the craft, and then up a second time. Arnaut didn’t give them a third chance. His pistol coughed twice and the gunner fell out of the speeder. The others, screaming, jumped out and ran. They at least remembered to take their rifles with them in their blind panic, Arnaut noted.

“Out of all the possible things they could've done,” he muttered. “Don’t let them make it out of this forest alive!” He surged forward, stumbling at first through the dense undergrowth and the low hanging branches as he tried to slip his goggles on with one hand and hold his pistol with the other. They slipped on, rather reluctantly, after a few seconds of fighting. Instantly the world turned a lime-green color, and the stumbling came to an abrupt end. Arnaut looked around, but could find head nor tails of the speeder’s crew. He flipped on his thermal.

What was green at once became a collection motley blues and purples. Except for the two very distinct red/orange humanoid shapes running off to the left of Arnaut. He flipped the goggles back to their NV mode and gave chase.

He came upon the first one less than fifteen seconds later. The less-than-fit driver was hunched against a tree, panting. As Arnaut came up behind him, the man turned slowly, but offered no resistance. His gun lay discarded on the ground a few feet away. He looked up into Arnaut’s eyes, defeated. He knew he was a dead man.

Arnaut stared back for a second, and then flipped his pistol to ‘dart’ mode and tranq’d the man in the arm. He gritted his teeth for a second and then slid to the ground, breathing slightly slower. Arnaut wasn’t about to kill a defeated soldier, simulation or not. It felt wrong.

“Nighty night,” Arnaut said, and moved on.

The second man proved to be more elusive. And more of a pain in the ass. Arnaut rounded a tree, just a few feet from where he’d left the first man sleeping, and nearly got his head blown off. Blaster bolts shattered the wood, sending splinters whistling through the air.

Those had been aimed. Which meant that either Arnaut’s prey had thermal goggles now, too, or could see in the dark really, really well. Arnaut poked his head out again and, again, nearly took a faceful of blaster bolts. Most likely goggles. Yeah, definitely goggles.

Arnaut counted his options. The man had him pinned, pretty badly, and, without the rest of the team, there wasn’t much Arnaut could do about it. If he left cover, it was likely he get hit, if not torn apart. The man clearly had a better angle on Arnaut’s tree than Arnaut had on his.

To his left, there was a small copse of trees. They looked like much better cover, at least more so than the thin piece of wood Arnaut was hidden behind. If he could somehow get to there, he’d have a better view of the field he was playing on. Getting there was another matter.

Maybe, just maybe, if he popped out the right side, and blasted a couple of shots toward the guy, he could fake left and make for the trees. From there, he could get the man as he readjusted his cover to the other side of his tree.

It could work. The only fear Arnaut had was catching a stray blaster shot on his way to the left as the man tried to trace him. The suits weren’t good at taking hits, and even a glancing shot could render one of his limbs useless. A risk he had to take. He couldn’t wait any longer for the man to make it back to the base, or call in the encounter, if he hadn’t already. With his mind made up, Arnaut started counting. Five. Four. Three. He checked around, and made sure no speeders were checking up on him again. There weren’t any, thankfully. Three. Two. One. Go!

Arnaut leapt out from behind the tree, going right and...nothing. No shots, no anything. For a second Arnaut had a bad feeling that the man had bolted, but then he saw him. Lying...face-down. In the dirt. With blood collecting around him. And his head rotated at an odd angle.

The shadows directly above the man shifted and Arnaut made out two very distinctive shapes: the huge, lumbering form of Orrix, and the slimmer, shorter form of Jennabelle, dripping knife in hand.

+We got him+ roared Orrix in shyyriiwook.

“I...but...uh...good job. Both of you. Outstanding work. Um...back to the speeder, then, if that’s the last of them...?” Orrix and Jenn both nodded and Arnaut clapped his hands together. The sound dampeners on his palms muted the sound, but his meaning was clear. Orrix and Jennabelle hurried back the way they’d come, Arnaut trailing behind, still glancing back at the prone form of the corpse every now and then.

“So...who wants to ride shotgun?” Koll asked, as soon as they’d all gathered around the speeder.

“Ah, no,” Arnaut said finally, and placed his hand firmly on Koll’s chest to keep him from jumping in. “I’ve got a better idea for it.”

Guardsman Oppus patrolled the gates with the rigid manner that was instilled in all the guards the day they were programmed. His A-280 was slung comfortably over his right shoulder, easily within reach, and his glow-lamp was outstretched in the other. Even with the three spotlights, beaming down from the top of the gates, the ground was dark and Oppus’ programmer had designed him to be prone to tripping up on dark ground.

He passed Guardsman Sergley and shared a brief, scripted encounter where they exhanged bits of artificial base-gossip and patrol sightings. With a terse good-bye, the scripted even ended, and they went on their separate ways to complete, once again, their unchanging, unwavering guard route.

Suddenly, out of the darkness, Oppus saw headlights. This wasn’t scripted under his regular guard code. No matter. His electronic mind swiftly moved from its guard to curiosity procedures. He stepped toward the headlights and, with a flash of computer provided insight, called out, “Hey, is that Jatrel’s speeder?” Jatrel and his landspeeder team had failed to report over twelve minutes ago and were overdue by two. But if this was them, then all was good. He could go back to guard code and quite literally forget this event had happened.

Curiosity programming suddenly switched over to alarm, though, as Oppus noticed that the speeder was empty. His code did not include any dialogue for the situation, so he backed off in silent fear. The speeder came on, not slowing.

At the top of the wall, the gate operator was yelling into his comlink, probably trying to communicate with the people he still thought were in the speeder. Oppus saw that he was failing, and, in a flash of basic AI brilliance, took matters into his own hands.

He stepped out into the road, directly in the speeder's path, and held his hands above his hands.

“Hey! Speeder! Slow down! Slow down, speeder!” The words were a mish-mash from various other scripted dialogues, and were delivered awkwardly, but they got the message across. As much as they could, considering Oppus was yelling at a speeding vehicle. “Slow down! Slow—”

The speeder, going well over sixty miles per hour, smashed through Oppus. In his last, final seconds, his last, final code sequence kicked in. Taking the information from the speeder, including speed of the object, density of the object, the direction and force of the object, Oppus transitioned smoothly to his high-velocity impact coding. His ribs fractured, his spine severed, and every organ in his body exploded to mush.

The speeder continued on for another forty feet before crumpling into the gate. At the same time, over a hundred pounds of plastic explosives in the back, along with the speeder's fuel reserves, were remotely detonated. The resulting explosion blew the gate, the gatehouse, twenty-three guards, and a good chunk of the wall all to hell.

The road wasn't as fancy as he had expected. Somehow he imagined that Riqimo would get carried away with the simulation and make everything in sight flashy. Instead, he got a slim grimy road with little more than a few slabs lazily pointing the way to the base. Following them along, he realised the base was finally in view, and even from a distance it looked huge. Getting in there was going to be tough, but at least it would be tough for Arnaut as well.

He couldn't quite believe his eyes when the explosion rippled out of the corner of the complex. It was huge, stretching well over fifty feet into the air, with a guard tower a few metres to the right soon toppling over. The huge iron doors completely disappeared, and he thought he saw guards, no more than stick insects from this distance, sailing through the air. He didn't know what had caused the explosion, but he knew damn sure who did it. Arn had some nerve to blow a whole in his Platoon Commanders base, even if it was only a simulation.

"Guy's we need to pick up the pace, Arn's already in the complex" He whispered as the sound of vehicles got closer.

"I'm guessing....that...was him then" Helena gulped from somewhere behind him.

"Who else could it be"

Suddenly, the sound of the vehicles stopped and was replaced by rushed voices. They were too far away to hear what was being said, but before Kanderin had even considered getting closer they were off down the road again. Only they weren't the convoy Kanderin thought they were, it was two speeders. They flew past at frightening speeds, so much so that it didn't even matter that Kanderin and the squad were somewhat visible.

"Lucky we didn't jump them then" RK grinned.

"For them I suppose. Let's move further down the road"

"What's wrong with this spot Kand?"

"The fact we can see the base burning" Kand replied, already marching down the road. "If the convoy see that they're just going to hightail it back out of here"

Jenny followed Arnaut carefully through the gaping hole in the base entrance wall, with wall pieces blown all around, some small flames licking at Bravo team as best they could, and bodies laid out all over the blown wall, blank eyes and shocked expressions. Jenny tusked at them for just a moment before heading inside. Sliding doors opened in front of them and troopers stepped out with DC-17 rifles and vibrobayonets at the ready in the empty, lighted but eerie hall as Arnaut led them to crates beside the windows on the second floor, which had two snipers peeking down the squad below with a sniper rifles, trained and ready to fire at any threat.

"Alright, guys, we're in the main hallway, by the looks of the map, the datacore is in the main data room, and access to it is on the second floor, behind that sniper, where there's a control room---" Arnaut started delivering his plan quietly as Jenny patted his back and interrupted him silently, gesturing to listen as she saw him peek from the crates with her, as officers came into the room, carrying blaster pistols, one of them saying:

"The commander has requested the control room be destroyed and totally unusable for entry into the data room, but we've both been entrusted for accessing the emergency controls into the main data room. Keep your guard up, people, they'll be coming into this hall any moment now."

"Oh, crap, Riqimo, nice surprise. Also people, we have no time to dilly-dally, as Alpha team is right behind us, so knock out the lights and prepare to dazzle the officers with quick slug pistol fire or knife stab, whatever, just get this done quietly on the mark of Koll' shots to the snipers."

---------------------------

Jenny snook up from out of her new cover facing the enemy squad and cut the throat of one of the patrolling guards as Koll took down the two snipers from above, the control room blowing in their wake. Enemy squad members were downed by every slug shot aimed at them, firing wildly as their bodies shake and die at the immense amount of slug bullets directed at them, leaving the officers firing left and right at what they thought was the enemy, only getting blaster pistols poked at their heads, goggles of Bravo Squad, including Jenny, staring at them with scorn and death in their bluey eyes.

Jenny saw that only a few of the squad members bled from the battle as they were quickly patched up by Arnaut, never keeping his eyes off the two officers as he merely said to the officers after patching up the men:

"Lead on, boys, lead on." Lead on us onto your death and datacore. Jenny said in her head the meaning of Arnaut's words.

Ok, I've talked it over with Arnaut and it seems that your post, Jenn, moves the story forward a bit too qucikly, and the whole fact that we entered a compound who's wall we just blew to smitherines without encountering one patrol on the way in and only encountered a patrol when we entered is a bit sketchy at best. In short, the post needs to be reworked a bit. Ask Arnaut for more details.

Koll grabbed the rope firmly in his hand. He was trying to avoid looking up. Even in the stealth suits, he could still vaguely see the outline of the squad leader's rear end. It wasn't the most pleasant thought in Koll's mind. Especially a human's. I better get a promotion for looking at this, Koll thought silently, slowly putting one hand in front of the other and walking up the side of the wall. Off in the distance, he could hear the screams of sprites being set on fire as their patrol routines took them through the pyre. A special squad of preprogrammed bots had been released and were trying to contain the situation, harnessing witnesses as they went by.

"Boss, I repsect that we've been away from the battlefield for at least a week after the bug incident, but could you move a little faster?" Koll asked in a hushed whisper. The sooner I can stop looking at your rear, the better, Koll thought cynically. He looked around Arnaut and saw the end in sight. Koll whispered a silent prayer of thanks to the Creator and reached up and pushed Arnaut a little.

"Be glad I don't kick you off this rope, PFC," Arnaut hissed from above. He reached up and pulled himself to the top of the wall and immediately took a crouch. "Oh great," he whispered.

"What's up boss?" Koll asked he climbed up himself. Koll saw it immediately too. Their little theatric at the gate had, so to say, stirred up the hornets' nest. There was about a click of land to cover yet, and it was now crawling with guards and service men. Doc had the place blazing with more lights than a Nar Shadaa Cantina at a disco. Insertion further than their current position would be hard, even in their suits. Thankfully, there were still a few patches of darkness they could use to sneak by. Then the worst possible scenario happened. Lights started to flick on across the top of the outer wall. Jenn saw this and immediately took out her pistol and fired two silent shots at the lights nearest them. Arnaut was helping the last member of Bravo team over the wall. They had only one option.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The AI was adaptive. Lt. Crevance saw an empty portion of the wall. Using the learned script from the speeder crash, the system switched him into investigate mode immediately. "Private!" he barked, "light up that portion of the wall, now!" The private flipped a switch. He flipped it again. Nothing happened.

"I'm sorry, sir, nothing's happening," the private said sheepishly. He tried the switch frantically again and again, but the poor Rodian wasn't doing himself any favors. Once more, the computer adapted.

"Private Stevenson!" the Lieutenant barked into a nearby comm. "Point your spotlight at that gap in the lighting!" Immediately, the portion of the wall was illuminated brightly. The space was empty, save for two shot-out lights. The sptlight searched down the wall and to either side to no avail.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Sithspit!" Koll whisper-shouted as he clutched his leg. each squad member had had no choice but to jump off the wall and land on the ground. Fortunately for most of them, they had time to roll forward and dodge to the side. They landed nicely on the soft grass. Koll, on the other hand, misjudged the sweep of the light and jumped when it was on its return journey. He landed flat with a sickening crunch and immediately collapsed. His leg splintered. He thanked the Creator that this was only a simulation, but that made the pain no less intense.

"You ok there, Koll?" Arnaut asked, walking up to the Zabrak.

"Yeah, it's just a flesh wound," Koll said, citing an extremely old movie and putting on a shallow smile.

"C'mon, Private Orrix, carry PFC Koll from here on in till we can find a way to heal his leg." The wookie sauntered over to the Zabrak and picked him up.

"Ow, ow! Not so rough you walking carpet!" Koll retorted to the pain. Orrix jostled Koll a little harder. "Ow! Ok, ok, you're doing a good job, sorry." Orrix finished putting him in a fireman's carry and began to walk off. He could swore heard a satisfied grunt from the wookie. "Ha ha, funny. Ow!"
Who needs to be affirmed by others when your actions already do that for you?

Jenny watched in amusement as Koll was carried by Orrix, yelling complaints the whole way. She knew this would affect the mission as if the enemy heard them, they would probably sound the alarm, so she elbowed him to shut up, and chuckled at his attempts to retort Orrix's grip. Damn, if he keeps this up, Orrix won't even put him down. At the thought of that, Jenny laughed silently even further, while Koll complained, a little bit loudly as they approached the patrols nearby:

"Alright, missy, this has been quite the joke, but as you can see I'm wounded and need to be treated in a careful way, not carried like a rescued child." Arnaut quickly shut him up with a gesture as they approached a patch of darkness by some crates that some service men in sky blue cleaner uniforms were carrying into the base entrance, let in by some guards at the gates, seen by Bravo team. Arnaut quickly formulated a plan, still looking at the various patrols and service men's route around before explaining:

"Well, the situation is good for us, they don't know exactly where we are, but if they do, they'll probably snipe us with snipers at the best chance, so we'd better be careful not to alarm anyone. I gather that we should get into the base, following those service men, which we can probably blend into with their uniform's color, just make sure not to make a peek until you get inside. I'm guessing these gate guards will have sharp ears and eyes, so let's hope lady luck is on our side and get going."

Arnaut gestured them to follow him as he led them through the web of the patrols, careful to only kill when it is necessary, for too many patrols unaccounted for could spark a great amount of tension and fear among the men, especially the officers, to set off an alarm. As Arnaut passed the last lone patrol, finishing his ale and gesturing greetings to the service men, Arnaut gestured to camouflage themselves with the service men, wearing their goggles while the lone patrol turned and walked back along his route.

Jenny crowded close with service man passing her, but not too close as to not bump into him all of a sudden. The searchlight had passed over the gate and all was dim at the entrance as Jenny followed Arnaut's servicemen to the gates. A bit of gestures of greetings and some words said, and they were in.

-------------------

The AI was disturbed by no signs of the men that had invaded their base with so many of these guards set up around the perimeter. Lt. Crevance wondered if they had slipped into the base with the service men, passing right under his nose, as he called in the base first floor officer:

"Any distrubance on the first floor, Kutqus? I've been getting random reports of men unable to report on their situation."

"None as far as I can tell, Crevance, the service men are almost done carrying in all the cargo, you should come inside and guard, they've probably gone inside by now, if what you're indicating is true. It's only a matter of time before we will find them with the IR cameras set up, plus the goggles handed out among the men." Crevance sounded truthful as he always does, he was the best Lieutenant on the force after himself and had quite the reputation in handling these nasty situations.

"Yeah, I should do that, maybe then I'll be able to catch these men with more support." He keyed off as he checked the men once again before deciding to move out some of the men to inside the compound. These feisty imperial commandos won't get past my eyes when I have those goggles, they'll be at my mercy soon enough.

They were inside, finally. The building had an eerie calm to it, deserted as it was. Almost deserted; most of the base’s guards were out trying to help the situation around the gatehouse. Bravo Team had left quite a mess in their wake. Arnaut crept along the maintenance shaft, enjoying the shadows. The suits absorbed light, but that only made the squad blend in with shadows. In the lit corridors, they might as well have been wearing black pajamas for all the camouflage the suits gave them. And protection.

The main hallways were all terribly well lit, and, as far as Arnaut had checked, none of his team had been supplied with EMP grenades. So here they were, creeping through a tiny maintenance tunnel, barely a foot across and only five feet high. Arnaut felt particularly bad for Orrix, whose bulk just barely made it through the tunnel. He was in the middle, and blocked the line of sight in both directions. Arnaut didn’t like it, but there wasn’t really any other choice.

+Are we going the right way?+ Orrix growled in what Arnaut thought was the equivalent of a wookie-whine. Arnaut glanced back to where Orrix had just pushed himself out of another tight squeeze. His suit had tufts of hair jutting out in places where jagged pipes, combined with the cramped environment, had sliced through his suit. He really wasn’t enjoying this.

“If I’m right, it should be just around the next turn here,” Arnaut said, motioning to a pathway that trailed off to the left of the tunnel they were in.

+And if you’re wrong?+ Orrix rumbled. Arnaut shrugged his shoulders.

“Then we all end up in the middle of the armory and get our heads blown off.”

Koll shook his head. “I’m glad you’re in front, sarge.” Arnaut grinned and continued on. Around the next corner, as foretold, was their destination. Abruptly, the path ended. Near the floor was a small grate, and, behind it, the air duct system.

“End of the line, people. Orrix, you know what that means.” The wookie nodded, backed out and down the hall, allowing the rest of Bravo Team to maneuver into the small space. They looked in dismay at the rather unimpressive alcove, which was really just a small depression in the wall that allowed workers to pass each other while in the tunnel. Arnaut let them mull for a few more moments, and then stepped aside and kicked the grate in. As one their eyes lit up as they finally understood Arnaut’s plan.

“Rather...tight,” Jennabelle pointed out. “How’s Orrix going to fit?”

“He’ll stay behind here and wait for us to finish this. We’ll pick him up once we’re out.”

If we get out,” Koll corrected, smiling. Arnaut stared levelly at him for a few moments until his smile faltered and finally fell from his face. Even after that, Arnaut stared for another two heartbeats before speaking.

“Mr. Morale, you’ve just volunteered yourself to go first. Have fun.” Arnaut shoved Koll down toward the broken grate, which he entered on all fours, though not without a good deal of grumbling. Jenabelle went next, followed by Joamer and, finally, Arnaut. The duct was about as tight a fit as Arnaut could ever hope to squeeze into. His shoulders were confined by both sides, and his suit was riding just a bit too high for comfort. The sacrifices they made for training.

“Head right when you can,” Arnaut said, reading off the crudely drawn map the maintenance-chief had made for him. He was gagged and unconscious in a broom closet in the back of the loading bay that Bravo Team had entered the building in.

Up ahead, he heard faint shuffling as Koll angled himself around a hairpin turn in the air duct. It took them a good five minutes to navigate the turn, given the cramped confines of the tunnel. Arnaut reminded himself that he needed to start working on his flexibility again. It had become...lacking.

“Alright, straight ahead is the room.” Koll pushed forward, ahead of the group, and stopped at a grate identical to the one Arnaut had broken a ways back. He pushed it out and set it gently on the floor before squirming out and into the room.

“All clear,” came his voice over the comlink. The rest of the team pushed their way out and spent a while stretching out before looking around. The room wasn’t big, maybe ten feet across and just as many feet wide, but what space it had was decreased more by the masses of tall computers and bundles of wires tracing it’s walls.  It’s lone lightbulb and door made it seem more of a prison cell than a maintenance room.

“Look for something that says ‘power feed’ or something. Anything like that.”

“Like these?” Joamer asked, holding a bundle of wires in his hand. Across them, written on adhesive, were two words: power supply. That’d do. Arnaut walked over, knife in hand, and sawed through them. Halfway through, the lamp in the room flickered and died, only to come on ten seconds later.

“So...didn’t work?” Koll asked, indicating to the light on ceiling.

“Oh it did alright,” Arnaut grunted, cutting through the last of the wires. He let them swing down to the wall. “The base is running on emergency power now, though. Which means that not every light is lit. More shadows. Good for—”

Arnaut stopped abruptly as he heard footsteps coming from the door. He motioned everyone to the corners of the room, the darkest spots, and then jumped up, over the door. He wedged himself between two ceiling high consoles that flanked the only real entrance to the room, with a perfect view of the entire, confined space. As a final precaution, he pulled out his pistol and blew out the light. Darkness reigned, only interrupted by the thousands of lights that dotted the computers. Bravo team was invisible.

The door opened, slowly, a small crack of light playing across the room. A man entered, wearing the sky blue fatigues of base personnel, and looked up questioningly at the broken light.

“What the...?” Arnaut dropped down behind him, knife clenched in hand, and stabbed him in the base of his skull. He fell without a sound. Arnaut turned, and, after making sure there was no one else, grabbed the corpse and dragged it over and into the air duct.

“Let’s go.” The hallway outside was dark, the emergency protocol of lighting every fifth light insufficient to hold back the shadows. Bravo team moved, undisturbed, through the halls.

So far so good. There was still no sign of Alpha Team. And yet...Arnaut kind of hoped that they’d run into each other. He’d always wanted to test his mettle against Kanderin. He smiled inwardly. That would be a nice fight. Him and Kand, Squad Leader and Assistant Squad Leader, the best versus the best.

As if on cue, the wall next to Arnaut’s head exploded. Arnaut jumped to the side, back to the lefthand wall, and gun already in his hand. He hadn’t heard the report of a blaster, and, plus none of the guards in the base could see them, which meant only one thing.

“Well, look who showed up late to the party! Alpha Team’s here; give ‘em hell!” said into the comlink happily. Even as he spoke the words, Arnaut caught a glimpse of two red orbs darting behind the corner up ahead. Maybe, Arnaut mulled to himself, this mission was going to be interesting after all.

Jenny was surprised at the sudden explosion and suddenly realized after a moment of shock, who was behind the explosion, Alpha team. She had hoped they never run into Alpha squad, for explosion and red orbs flying all over the place would raise much suspicion from the passing personnel or guards. Well, they're here, so forget that and let's give Alpha team the welcome it deserves. She thought, shaking away the fears, as she followed Arnaut to cover in some office rooms that were empty, if only for the moment, with computer tables that weren't boxed in like she usually sees, but only spaced out by a windowed wall, and littered with notes of reminders and messages from their lovely commander, Doc, and from their loved ones back home. She hid behind the nearest desk as red orbs flashed by and Alpha squad came in, excited for the battle, ducking behind cover, firing at Bravo squad with ferocity.

Jenny holstered her knives and took out her slug pistol, checking its ammo to make sure she had enough. She returned fired along with the rest of the squad, tearing windows apart with glass falling on the floor, computer monitors ripped apart by the blast, churning out its insides like a normal human would, with small explosives that sent computer hard drives blowing up and emit a groaning sound it was accustomed to. She saw that Arnaut was thinking of a good plan to defeat Alpha squad and get their job done when the idea suddenly came to him in a sort of light-bulb way and he relayed to the rest of the team on the comlink:

"Jenny, Joamer, concentrate your fire on suppressing and not shooting off their arms, legs or shoulders that you are able to aim at. I'll throw a grenade at them and with the rest of the team we'll try and flank them, it shouldn't be that hard with the more fresh men on their side, though I don't think that'll be an advantage if Kand can work around it, but we'll try anyways."

Joamer and Jenny nodded as she reloaded a fresh clip for her pistol and suppressed the Alpha team with Orrix, letting Arnaut look at their positions and status and think about a good way to suppress. He let off a small explosive after a few moments and pretended to flank Alpha on the left side, firing his pistol at RK with Koll and Orrix, Orrix growling, moving slowly onto RK's side, as Kand noticed their movement, and did a counteroffensive.

"You aren't going to get me that easily, Arnaut, not today." Kand commented on Arnaut's cheap move as he moved with Helena and Arik onto Jenny's side on the right and fired on her, nearly giving her a body full of slug shots.

Jenny swear a bit as she avoided the shots, smashing the computer table behind her with her shoulder and jamming her way down to the aisle of offices behind her, landing on her back while firing shots at Alpha team filing in closer to her and Joamer's position.

"Joamer, get out of there, Kand's coming in." Jenny saw that he didn't need another warning as he also did a kind of slow motion move into the aisle behind him and retreated with Jenny herself behind him to the back of the room a holo projector screen flashing in the back of him, showing the base's layouts in blue and its entry points in green, the datacore room flashing on the second floor right beside the commander's room, almost having a target or X crossed right on it with its red glow.

"They've been readying this moment for quite a while, and still they didn't expect commandos in a stealth suit, huh, yeah right, Doc's not dumb enough for that." Arnaut and Kand said at the same time, staring at the screen before them with its circles placed throughout the building and cameras also set up throughout, with the newest update IR written beside the cameras and a crumbled note of reminder about picking up some IR goggles that Jenny noticed beside the garbage bin.

"Well, we'll find a way around that, I hope, for now, let's continue our battle, gentlemen." Arnaut said, turning the subject onto the said battle, which did continue, as to his delight, for Jenny reflected on his feelings about besting Kand in a match and knew this was a hard-to-miss opportunity for him to do so, and it was her honor to fire alongside him at this opportunity, to hit tooth with tooth and fire with fire until one of the teams came down, each other hoping it wasn't the end for them.
