Greetings,
I have a queston to ALL VE members - am I the only one who misses the good old "Role Playing Stuff"?
I mean, I am now in here for 3, 4 years and in 1999 and 2000 we had much more Role playing in here - we looked for the Rank of an other member in the IRC channel, or Message Board, we saluted for every member and officers, if he/she was higher ranked (Saluting is just a part of Role Playing, but who salutes, understood the hole meaning of it).
Now, a member of the Navy asked me, why should he salute for an Army member?
And I told him - this is a Role Playing Club, you just play a role in here and that is the main reason you joined that club, right? And now, think of the following situation -
You are on your way to your ship and walk through the Death Star. On your way you meet Darth Vader himself, he is alone, and you are alone. You have time.
And now you will ignore him, just because he is no Navy member? Think about it...I guess, you would be killed by Darthy...
We all serve the same thing and organization, this is the Vast Empire, the powerful Empire which control many parts of the Galaxys, and you are a part of it.
Saluting is just one, little thing.
There are other important things like the form of writing posts and mails, showing respect to officers and have a closer look to the rank of higher ranked people.
I think that is a part of playing the role of - whatever you are - Navy officer, High Council XO or Army Private First.
And I think it would help to bring some peace and harmony into our VE IRC channel if we show our respect to other members in this wise (see "ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY"). 
So, post what you think of it - if it sucks most of you, just say it - was just an idea. And btw, this thing isn't for myself - I am just a reserve, for me nobody have to saulte

I don't salute to just anyone, it's not one of the casual things I do. I show respect and all, but I don't salute regularly. When I do salute, it's a show of extreme respect, I don't salute just anyone. However, for those with a more relaxed attitude on it, I agree that we should salute between services  -----------------------

I personally think the zero tolerance concept is going to make things worse.. Basically be giving even more power to those higher up, and making the lower down ones feel victimised (and, amazingly, I have already seen proof of this, although I obviously won't give names).
Anyway, in RL, a person NEVER salutes another person. Confused? You should be
You only salute if you are in uniform (in our case, that would be when your rank is before your name, i.e. LCM_Bear), and only salute higher officers than yourself. You never salute a person, you salute their rank. They themselves don't have to be in uniform, but if they hold a higher rank than you, you salute them. It doesn't matter what service they're in, or even what country's army, they get saluted. Even people who have appointed themselves a rank (usually leaders of countrys) have to be saluted by anyone lower in rank and wearing uniform.
Understand? Thats how it works in the UK, anyway.
Basically, yes, we should have a role to play. But not too big a role.. and whos saying this nonsense about not saluting between services?! When I visit the GE chan, I'm treated as some sort of God..  -----------------------

one thing ive found is that we have FAR fewer members using the storynet compared to what we used to have.
if we had an army squad comp now we'd have 1-3 people in each squad posting rather than up to 8 -----------------------

No, we're in field uniform.. khaki or greens
Officially, you are in uniform as soon as you have your helmet/hat/beret on.. thats when you salute.
But we should all just do more role playing stuff, I agree!  -----------------------

don't know about you but I always see myself in uniform remember this is Star Wars...not real life... we have never seen a troop in "casual dress" in this universe yet

Thanx Ani, I agree with you.
But how can we make them do more of that stuff?
If everybody agree, and everyone wants to do that, just DO it and show them on the acadamy more Role playin stuff...
Eevery new Recruite should feel like a newbie and salute for everyone since he has killed his first Rebell -----------------------

there isn't really anything "physical" you can do nor would you want to... respect in the ways you talk about with saluting and what not shouldn't be forced...it should be more of a virtue and pride that you have for the Vast Empire. One thing will help is just informing new recruits on what to do, kinda like a Vast Empire Etiquette, which could be included as part of the "first e-mails" the recruit gets...

About the whole Army-Navy things...
Is there any kind of system worked out in the VE for equivalent ranks between the navy and army, like there are in a real military system? I've never seen one, anyhow. I know it's not necessary, but if you really want to get into the whole role-playing thing, it would be nice to know what members in the other divisions are compared with your rank. For instance, a lieutenant in the navy is not the same as a lieutenant in the army, etc. Just a thought... -----------------------

although it doesnt apply to us soldiers in one unit count as having a higher rank in another
E.g. as SAS sargeant has a higher rank in the TA i believe -----------------------
