Quillia'a data pad chirped, she looked down at it.
Medic training, room 270, today at 0900. She looked down at her chrono.

"0830," she said rolling out of bed and getting dressed. "Just enough time time to get there." She grumbled to herself.

-----24 Minutes later----

Quillia entered room 270, the room was filled with what looked to be five rows of eight chairs, only the first four seats in the frnt row were filled. She walked over to the empty seat up front and sat down. She looked at the objects on her desk, a backpack, and a data pad terminal. At this time, an older man, around forty-five walked into the room.

"I will be your instructor for the duration of this class. You may call me Doctor Xandar. Now if you will please place each of your datapads into the terminals provided, we will start the class." Quillia placed her datapad into the terminal at her desk.

"The first thing we will go over today are the ABC's of first aid. Now you will all take your datapads and find that chapter in the material you just uploaded and read it to yourselves. If you have any questions, feel free to ask."

Quillia grabbed her datapad and brought up the section on first aid.

The ABC's of first aid consist of Airway, Breathing and Circulation. First you ensure the airway is clear and free of obstruction, and you make sure the patients tounge is not blocking their own airway. The best method to accomplish this is the chin lift method. This method is best accomplished by placing one hand on the patients forehead and the other underneath the chin, making the head rotate backwards, as if looking up. This method is not suggested for patients with possible neck injuries. If a possible neck injury is suspected use the jaw thrust method. This method is performed by placing two fingers on the area where the manible connects to the skull, and manipulating it so the jaw it thrust forward, and the airway is cleared.

Once you are sure the airway is clear and stable, we move onto breathing. To check to see if a patient is breathing yo uplace the the side of your face near the patients mouth and nose. You will look, listen and feel for signs of breathing. If you do not hear the patient breathing, see the patient's chest rise and fall, or feel the breath being exhaled on the side of your face, begin rescue breathing. Continue giving rescue breathing until the patient's condition improves or ten minutes elapses. If condition does not improve within ten minutes consider the patient deceased.

Quillia cringed at the straight forwardness of the last statement and continued reading.

For circulation you check the patient's pulse. You may check the pulse in one of two places, the side of the neck approxomatly five centimeters below either ear. The other acceptable area to check for the pulse is the left wrist. When checking for pulse in the neck ensure you do so with only index and middle fingers and that you merely place them in the directed area, do not grab the neck or wrap you fingers around the neck. When checking the pulse in the wrist, you do so by placing your index and middle fingers on the center of the underside of the wrist and apply slight pressure. If no pulse is found, start CPR, which consists of rescue breaths and chest compressions at a rate of twenty chest compressions and five rescue breaths a cycle. Do CPR for ten minutes, if no improvement within that time, then there is no more you can do. If a defibulator is available attempt using that before starting CPR.

Quillia looked up at the instructor as when she was finished reading. He was writing on the board in the front of the room, it read; The Medic Ethos:
Preserve life,
Prevent injury
Promote healing

"Any questions on anything you have seen yet?" No one raised a hand. "Good, now we will take a look at the standard medic bag. Take it and empty it on your desk. If you have any questions on what anything is or how to use it, feel free to ask questions."

Quillia started to empty the bag, begining with the main compratment. She pulled out a small bacta tank, gauze, sterile gauze pads, sterile eye pads, and burn dressings. She took quick inventory of those items and put them away, starting on the next pocket. The side pocket contained: slings, knuckle bandages, elastic bandages, adhesive bandages, elastic roller bandages, medical tape, shears, a small lighter, an assortment of syringes, gloves, a CPR mask, a penlight, bacta patches, eye wash, swabs, a blanket, alcohol rub, and a small defibulator. She put the contents of the side pocket away and emptied the third and final pocket which held: A bottle of benzalkonium chloride, alcohol pads, antibiotic ointments, pain killers, burn gel, quick clot, and an assortment of headache pills.

Once she put all that away the instructor walked over to Quillia and said. "Quick study eh? Okay then, how would you best treat a blaster wound?" Quillia started to reach for her datapad.

"Your patient is writhing in pain and you are going to take your time and look up treatment on your datapad? You have to act quickly. What would a blaster wound consist of?" He asked.

"Essentially a blaster wound is a complex burn." Quillia said and then paused for a moment, her eyes lighting up. "I would sterilize it using an alcohol rub, then treat the wound itself with burn gel, completing it with a sterile gauze pad sealed to the area with medical tape or a roller bandage, to hold it in place."

"Good job." Doctor Xandar said. "You pass for the day."

OOC:
Great first spec, you passed.  This is one of the things I hate about some of the medic stories, your character might be just in a lecture rather than out doing something through application like repairing a droid.  If you can, try to sprinkle that in as much as you can.  Don't be afraid to be original either.  Spelling and grammar great, don't think I caught any mistakes there.  Next one should give you a good chance to do some "application" of the spec itself rather than the "lecture" format.  So good luck

Quillia's comlink chirped with an incoming call. She reached over and picked it up from the side table next to her bunk and answered it.

"Private First Class Ali'shrae Quillia speaking. How may I help you sir or ma'am?"

"This is Head NUrse Kalida at Palpatine Medical Center. I'm calling on behalf of Doctor Xandar. He is the physician in charge of training. You have a class in one hour. Doctor Xandar will meet you at the reception desk in the emergency room. All you need to bring is a datapad."

"Thank you." Quillia said as she closed the comlink. She rolled herself out of bed and headed to the 'fresher. When she got dressed she grapped her datapad and headed out the door.

The walk from the barracks to the hospital was long and uneventful. She arrived at 0953 according to her chrono. She walked through the double doors into the lobby and followed the signs to the emergency ward. Once she was there she saw Doctor Xandar standing by the reception desk.

"You have more to teach me Doctor?" Quillia asked puzzled.

"Yes and no." He said. "I will help you further your medical skills, and I get an extra nurse to help treat patients. It's a win win. We'll start you off recieving patients for the bacta tanks. Hand me your datapad, I'll put all the information you will need on there."

She handed him her datapad and he input some directions.

"Essentially all you have to do is input the patient's information onto the tank. Once you do that, you place them into the tank and monitor their condition. It's simple, just tedious and time consuming."

A nurse ran into the room. "Doctor! There's been an accident, a shuttle has crashed into a residential district, lots of injured coming. We should start recieving in five minutes." She said hurridly.

"Well, looks like we're going to have our hands full. I'm expecting great things from you private." He said as he rushed from the room.

Never an easy day around here is there? Quillia thought to herself as she read the directons on the datapad.

Information required: wound description, patient age, health status, patient gender. Once you input that information onto the patient's chart, the medical droid will begin the treatment. Monitor the patient's status and remove the patient when they are stable.

Just as she finished reading the directions, two nurses brought a femal in on a gurney, one of the nurses handed Quillia a datapad with the patient's personal information and exam results. Quillia skimmed over the datapad.

"Fractured left femur, two severe lacerations to torso, minor cuts and abrasions to hands and face." Quillia said as she entered the information onto the chart.

"Twenty-three years old, in good health, patient is female." Quillia entered the last of the information and then manuvered the patient to the tank to be placed into. As soon as the patient was in the tank the medical droid assigned to that tank hummed to life and starting repairing the lacerations across the patient's torso.

The next eight hours consisted of non-stop patients. Eventually the flow of patients became a trickle and then the trickle ceased all together. Throughout the day Quillia had treated forty-seven patients, handling her task with relative ease. She became quicker and more efficient with each new patient. Once the flow of patients had returned to its normal pace Doctor Xandar entered the room.

"You performed amirably today, I cannot thank you enough. You have, of course, passed your bacta therapy class. If you have any further medical questions. You can always ask me. Now, go home and get some rest, you deserve it. I'll contact you again when it's time for your next class."

Quillia smiled weakly and nodded. Walking out of the medical center and going home.

OOC:
Passed.  Better than your first   If you could, try to make them a tad bit longer.  I know you use a public computer however, and I will not penalize you for that.  So just do what you can if possible.  Perhaps put up part and edit later?  I can delay reading them if you wish to do that.

Quillia woke up to her chirping comlink and answered it.

"Private First Class Quillia speaking, how may I help you Sir or Ma'am?"

"Hello my name is Doctor Itleau, I am an associate of Doctor Xandar, but unlike him I run a private medical practice. The next part of your medical training will take place with me at my medical clinic. I am sending all the necessary information for your trining to your datapad. I will see you shortly." Doctor Itleau closed the connection.

Quillia picked up her datapad and skimmed over the information. She grabbed what the directions told her, and headed toward Doctor Itleau's medical clinic, it wa son the other side of the city.

When she arrived she was greeted by a blue hued twil'ek.

"Greetings Private Quillia, I am glad you spared no time in coming here. I am Doctor Itleau, and this is my clinic. Now if you come with me we'll go ahead and get started."

He led her into an examination room, currently empty of patients. It contained a medical database, and a case that held various pieces of medical equipment.

"Your scanner should suffice for what you will be doing today. You are going to diagnose patients and reccomend treatment. When you are done with a patient you will send them back out to see the receptionist while I check over their chart, but all you have to worry about is sendning them back out, I'll take care of it after that. The medical database is a great source of information. If you need any assistance you can use the intercom over there to get me in my office."

He then left the room and Quillia readied herself for dealing with patients for the rest of the day.

Quillia's forst patient walked in and Quillia motioned for her to sit down on the exam table.

"What seems to be the problem Ma'am?" Quillia asked as she started her scan of the patient, a human female in her mid to late thirties.

"I've been exceptionally tired and have been hungrier than usual lately." SHe replied.

"Well," Quillia said looking at the scanner, "It seems you have the cardooine chills. I will reccomend that you be treated with bacta immersion therapy. You will probably be weak for about a month after being treated but that's normal. " Quillia assured her. "Go see the receptionist up front and they will make arrangements for your therapy."

The woman nodded and made her way out of the room.

Quillia's next patient walked in and strode over to the exam table and sat down. He was in his early twenties and had the look of a spacer about him.

"What can I help you with today?"  Quillia asked as she started her scan.

"Well doc, it seems I have contracted myself a touch of the brandy ague." He said with a somewhat labored smirk.

Quillia went over and searched the medical databas for 'brandy ague', but got no results.

"I'm afraid I can't find anything called brandy ague ." Quillia said with a confused expression on her face.

The spacer smiled. "Hun, I've got a hangover, and work to do, surely you can give me something to help."

"Oh," Quillia said embarrased. "I'll see what I can do."

Quillia consulted the medical database looking for something to ease a hangover, and she found it.

"I reccomend a dose of synthenol, but I would reccomend not drinking before work again."

The spacer nodded, trying to avoid dragging the encounter out longer than he had to.

"You're done in here, if you go speak with the receptionist out front, she'll get you on your way."

The rest of Quillia's day was uneventful. When it ws time for the clininc to close Doctor Itleau followed closly behind by Doctor Xandar came into the exam room.

"Thank you for your assistance today. You were very helpful." Doctor Itleau said and then left the room.

"Upon the reccomendation of my colleague Doctor Itleau I am passing you in the class of humanoid pathology. You will, as before, be notified again when your next class is schedualed. See you soon." Doctor Xandar said leaving the room.
Quillia let herself out of the clinic and headed back home.

Beep, beep, beep  Quillia's comlink went off as she was eating for breakfast. Beep beep beep It chimed again before she could answer it.

“Private First Class Ali'shrae Quillia, how may I help you?” She asked into the com.

“Pee eff cee,” the voice replied. “This is Doctor Xandar, I'm calling to inform you that your next class will begin this morning at eleven hundred hours, at the university science department, room two seven zero.”

“Alright Doc, see you there.” She replied before the comlink disconnected.

==========

Quillia walked through the door, the lights were dim, and she couldn't see Doctor Xandar in the room.

“You're five minutes early.” Doctor Xandar replied, appearing from behind a microscope research work station.

“Grab that book of slides and come over here.” He instructed her.

Quillia grabbed the binder and walked over to the workstation next to Doctor Xandar.

“What you're going to do is look at each slide on this microscope, then you're going to use the research station to identify what it is and why it is important. You will write down your answers on the flimsy in the back of the slide book.”

Quillia nodded her head in understanding.

“Good, now get to work.” Doctor Xandar got up from his seat at the workstation and left Quillia to her research.

The medic-in-training pulled the first slide out of the book and placed it under the microscope, an image appeared on the screen. Quillia looked down at the control panel and pressed a few keys, causing the station to run an image search. A caption appeared below the image.

Platelet: small cytoplamic body involved in clotting cells. See also coagulin.

Quillia searched coagulin

Coagulin: a microscopic substance that helps platelets stick together to form clots.

She flipped to the flimsy in the back of the work and started writing her answer.

Object one is a platelet, it is important because when combined with coagulin, and exposed to air, will cause a clotting action in blood.

Quillia took the slide off of the microscope, and placed it back from its place in the binder. She grabbed the next slide out of the book, and gently pressed it into the reader. An image appeared, she pressed a few buttons and the computer ran a search and identified the slide.

Staphylococcus bacterium: secretes toxins that cause an adverse effect in human(oid) bodies. Method of treatment: Polybiotic.

Quillia then looked up Polybiotic in the database.

Polybiotic: A widespectrum anti-biotic capable of working on multiple species.

Quillia wrote:  Slide two contains Staphylococcus bacterium. It secretes a toxin that has an adverse effect against human(oid)s. The method of treatment is with the multi-species anti-biotic; Polybiotic.

She removed the slide from the reader and replaced it in the book.

She stretched in her seat and let out sigh, before pulling the next slide out of the binder.  She placed it in the console and waited for the image to appear. The image appeared and in a few keystrokes so had the caption.

Adenosinetriphosphate: Commonly abbreviated as ATP. The main energy storage and transfer molecule in the cell.

“Oh, is that all it does?” She grumbled quietly to herself, while pulling the flimsy out for a final time.

Slide three contains  Adenosinetriphosphate (ATP). It stores and transfers energy on a molecular level. It is important because without ATP life in all (known) multi-cell beings would be impossible.

She double checked all of her paperwork and then got up from the workstation., and headed over to Doctor Xandar to turn in her work. She handed him her answers and placed the book back on the shelf where she got it from.

He read over her answers before saying. “This is very exemplary work, good job. I will notify you later when I have arranged your next class.”

Quillia nodded politely and headed outside. She looked at her chrono.

“It's almost eighteen hundred, no wonder I'm so hungry.” She said to herself and headed out on her way.

OOC:
Good job with a boring subject. The grammar and spelling looks good, for the future try to work on adding more details whenever you can. Also throw in a practical exercise whenever you can, just to give it more of a story feel. But those are just suggestions, PASS.
