Alhzen sighed as his datapad beeped waking him up. He walked over to the table he placed it on and flipped through the messages finally reaching the newest one. He sighed as he read the title “Medic Training” he opened up the message and here is what it said Hello Alhzen, you might be wondering medic training? I didn’t sign up for that. But you will report to room 167 in the training facility for medic training, Signed Sergeant Tanus. ”Dang… I thought I would have been relaxing today.” He sighed as he got dressed the message also said he was supposed to be their at 0100 hours he still had an hour so he took his time.
One Hour LaterAlhzen walked into classroom 115 five and scanned around the room. He saw many different people, tables and chairs. On each of the table was a large bag probably containing supplies. He headed over to the middle of the classroom and sat beside a friendly looking Twi’lek. Soon after a man with brown hair with gray at the sides of it walked inside of the room, probably the instructor. The man walked to the front of the class and began to introduce himself.
“Hello class, I am Sergeant Kurtis Ptyoles. Or Sergeant K for short.” Said the man with a smile on his face. “You all know what you are here for, training as a medic.” Said Kurtis as he walked towards one of the tables. “If you open the bags in front of you, you will find all the equipment for first aid and a datapad explaining everything about first aid.” He said as he walked back to a desk in the corner. “The things on the datapad are what you will be tested on tomorrow. There will be two tests on written and on practiced on a victim.” Said Kurtis as he sat down.
Alhzen unzipped the bag with speed after the sergeant finished talking and began pulling out its contents. First he pulled out all what seemed to be the heaviest object in the bag a small bacta tank different dressings like gauze, sterile eye pads, sterile gauze pads, and some burn dressing. Next he pulled out all of the bandages this consisted of slings, knuckle bandages, elastic bandages, adhesive elastic roller bandages and triangular bandages. The next set of items he pulled out were the tools, which consisted of many things like adhesive tape, trauma shears, a lighter, and a syringe. He then continued by pulling out the rest of the equipment in the bag, which were gloves, a CPR mask, a flashlight, bacta patches, sterile eye wash, swabs, a blanket, alcohol rub, a small defibrillator, a thermometer and a penlight. Finally he pulled out all of the medication in the bag. The things there were antiseptics, Benzalkonium chloride, alcohol pads, antibiotic ointments, painkillers, burn gel, quickclot and a variety of headache pills.
I feel sorry for every other medic in the entire world because we have to carry all of this stuff. Thought Alhzen as he pulled out the datapad, flicked it on and turned it to the newest message.
Hello trooper and welcome to the wonderful world of medic training, today’s lesson is about first aid the bulk of medicinal care. First off we will learn the 3 main rules about being a medic. The 3P’s are the set of rules they stand for Preserve Life, Prevent Further Injury and Promote recovery. Those are the main rules of being a medic but the 3 first steps to treating a patient is called Airway, Breathing and Circulation or The ABC’s for short. The first step is to check the airways which are usually blocked by vomit or the tongue. To check this you preform the head tilt- chin lift procedure which is done by tilting the victim’s head upward. The next step is to check the victim’s breathing if everyhting is normal you are ok but the signs of irregular breathing are gasping, choking, coughing or none at all. To fix this you will need to preform rescue breathing or “The Kiss Of Life”which is done by sealing your and the victim’s mouths together and breathing out deeply forcing air into the lungs. Of course the easiest way is mouth to mask which is simply placing the CPR mask on the victim’s mouth. The third and final step is checking circulation. This is done by a simple pulse check if the pulse is irregular or barely there you should start up the defibrillator and zap the victim once or twice to get his/her pulse on track. Alhzen sighed as he finished this large part of information. He scrolled down on the datapad and saw the next part of information.
The next step in first aid is how to treat a blaster wound, how to dress a bleeding wound and how to sling a broken bone. First we will talk about blaster wounds, these are simple and easy to treat if the victim lives through getting shot. Since the wound cauterizes itself and leaves nothing inside of the victim it is simple to treat. The first step to healing a blaster wound it to clean the wound by applying rubbing alcohol to it and wiping it down. Next you need to place ointment on the wound first take a bottle of burn ointment and apply it to the wounds which will sooth the pain. Finally you need to dress the burn with a clean adhesive bandage to start the healing.Next thing we will talk about is how to treat a bleeding wound. Usually a sword or other melee weapon wound get much dirt inside of them so you will need to clean the wound using rubbing alcohol. The next step is to wipe the blood off using swabs so you can see the wound. If the bleeding does not slow down apply some quick clot to the wound. After this you need to cover the wound with gauze and apply some adhesive tape to hold the gauze in place. Lastly you need to cover the wound with elastic roller bandages for extra protection. The final step in first aid is to know how to treat a broken bone. Normally the quickest and usually most effective thing to do is to place the victim in a bacta tank. Since the one supplied usually is not big enough to fit a person in you need to know how to make a sling. The easiest version of an arm sling is to wrap an elastic bandage around the limb and place a triangular bandage on it so it will hold the broken bone in place. This is the most effective way on the field to treat a broken arm. But to treat a broken leg the best thing is to create a crutch out of wood or to get the wound as firm as can be. That is all for today’s lesson remember study this for the test.Alhzen sighed as he finished reading. “That was perhaps the longest thing I have read in my entire life.” He said to the Twi’lek beside him who nodded in response. The sergeant at the front of the room stood up and sighed.
“Well everyone I will need you to all prepare for the tests tomorrow by studying this and your equipment which you will be allowed to take back to your rooms.” Said Kurtis. “Have a nice day everyone.” He said as he left the room.
Alhzen sighed as he walked outside of the classroom and cracked his knuckles heading back to where his room was. The door opened for him when he got there and placed the bag on the table where all of his little gadgets were. “This will be one hell of an all nighter studying this stuff.” He said to himself as he sat in the nicest chair in the room which was a light shade of blue with a high back. He grabbed the datapad and began reading it over and over again memorizing it word for word. When he finally thought he got it down he grabbed the bag and went through it’s contents at least several times before looking at the clock and realizing he should get to bed so he would be up for the test the next day.
One Day LaterAlhzen sat down in the same place as yesterday and saw a large booklet the size of a short story on the table with 3 different pens beside it. As he sat down he noticed the same instructor from yesterday walk in.
“Ok everyone, the first part is a written test. So if you pass this and the oral exam you move on if not I don’t pass you.” Said Kurtis with a grin as he sat down. “I have set this timer for 4 hours which is all the time you get to finish the test. “Any questions?” he asked and a ton of hands shot up. “None? Ok then you may begin, put the tests on my desk when you are finished.” Said the man with an evil grin as he sat down in the desk near the corner of the room. As a loud “Beep” ran through the room signaling the start of the timer.
Alhzen wrote his name on the corner of the booklet and let a sigh out as he turned the page. Here we go. He thought with a sigh. He noticed the first part was Multiple choice and the answers flew to him and his pen was like lightning on the paper flying through the pages of the test. He passed through the other sections with ease True or False, Short Answer and Long answer. He finally finished when 2 hours and 30 minutes passed. He got up and placed the test on the desk noticing he was the second one finished. He sat back down and slept as the others finished the test.
One Hour and 30 Minutes LaterThe timer beeped continuously and the sergeant pressed a button and the timer stopped soon after everyone placed the tests on his desk Kurtis got up and motioned for everyone to follow him out of the room. As everyone in the room followed him they eventually reached another training room, when everyone got in they noticed 30 men and women on the ground in some kind of fake pain. “Now everyone find a victim and start treating them. You have 30 minutes.” He said with a grin on his face.
Alhzen and everyone else ran to a nearby patient and examined them for wounds. He was paired up with a girl who seemed to have been shot with a blaster. The training instructor also supplied everyone with the first aid kit beside them. He quickly opened it and got out the rubbing alcohol and poured some on a swab and cleaned the wound, then he dug through the bag for burn salve. When he found it he opened and applied it to the wound which was on the right shoulder of the girl. He then quickly wrapped and adhesive bandage on the girl and stood up. “Done sir.” He said as he looked around he was the first finished after a while everyone completed the treatments and waited for the next thing to happen.
3 Hours LaterWhen everyone finished the sergeant had ordered them to leave and come back in 3 hours where the marks will be posted. Alhzen was one of the first to arrive and saw 4 different pages 2 pages of people that passed and two of people that didn’t. He checked the pass names and the scores he looked at them and saw his name was first on both with 100% beside his name about 2 other people also had 100 on both. He smiled as he read this and returned to his room waiting for the next message to appear on his datapad and tell him to report back to classroom 115 for more medic training.
OOC: Words 2 022. My hands hurt after this.
First Aid is the first step in the long grueling training of a medic. In first aid you will be asked to mention all of these : The 3P's, The ABC's, All of the equipment found In a first aid kit, and how to fix multiple injuries. If you do not know what might happen in all of these look it up for reference.
