I checked spelling and my entire 500 word post vanished. Upon pressing "Check Spelling" and then "Resume editing", the text area briefly displayed "click on a smilie to the left to add the code. Am I going insane or is there a bug?

No, there is a bug. I've not been able to nail it down yet though.

This is why you always write longer-sized posts in either Word, WordPerfect, Notepad, or anywhere that's not on ComNet. :P Someplace where you can save your work.
