The section you want be posting this in is "Naval Academy", but that's alright. We'll use this topic and have someone move it over there when they get the chance.

Anyways, welcome to the Navy, Anden.

Let's get you started on training. Firstly, I will direct you to this link:

Flight School

The first step is pretty straight forward and involves creating a biography for your character. You can find examples by other members here:

Navy Members

Other than that, there's not much else now. I encourage you to find your way onto IRC as it is a great way to meet other members. This can be done either by downloading mIRC and following the "IRC Tutorial" on the main page or using "JavaChat" found a couple links under the ComNet once again on the main page.

Once again, welcome to the Navy and I look forward to serving with you.

Thank you for the help. I will have my Bio up in a few days. Just finishing up some School work before winter break and then I will be able to get on it. As well as the rest of the training.

So I am guessing that by you saying we will use this thread I should not make another one for my Bio...correct??

Name: Anden Beliam
Given Call-sign None at this time

Age: 27
Sex: Male
Home World: Lotaith
Family: Father- Kirden, Mother- Drea
Height: 5’ 9”
Weight: 160
Hair/Eye Color: Dark Brown/ Grey-Blue
Occupation:  Pilot

Appearance:  Anden is short, has a fair amount of muscle mass and his skin has natural tan complexion to it. With thick hair, which he cut neat on the side and slightly longer on the top, and well defined features he could easily be have made a career modeling uniforms instead of wearing them out while on duty. Anden is not one who slouches, but has a strong near perfect form to movements. He moves with precision that is calculating and decisive, very similar to his piloting abilities and this gives an air of confidence in any situation he has been put into. One look into his intense blue flecked grey eyes and it is easy to see the sincerity in his heart and the disquieting confidence he has in who he is.

Demeanor and Personality: Something his Mother told him when he was very young stuck with him throughout his teen years and into his young adult life. She told him, “Anden, you have a talent and a natural gift for making friends wherever you are.”

And that is a talent he has always tried to nourish and help grow.

When Help is needed you can always count on Anden being one of the first ones in line to lend a hand. He is the very truest of friends to the very end. Anden is one who manages to turn small opportunities in things that will help not only himself, but those around him. He is quick to smile and to lend a listening ear to those who need it, and has become very adept in knowing when to talk and give advice and when remain quiet. However, because he has the knowledge of when to talk and when to hold his tongue, he is very social and loves to be among friends and in places where he can meet new friends.

When he knows it is permitted, Anden loves to have a bit of spontaneous fun with whomever he finds himself in company with. This spontaneity has led to more than a few very note-worthy occurrences that make for good storytelling on night out for drinks at the cantina. All other times Anden is the epitome of following the rules- only breaking them when situations call for something other than rules. He is a strong believer that without rules- there is no order, and that no order breeds chaos.

Abilities:
      - Ship repairs and modifications
      - Piloting: Light Freighters and Starfighters

Anden is a Mech-head and loves to into under and around a ship. With a strong history of building his own ships and modifying them, it is highly unlikely that he will stop doing that anytime soon in his life. Mainly focusing his modifications to increase a ships speed and maneuverability, his dabbling in starship improvements have also leaked out into ships sensory shield functionalities and capabilities.

Before joining the Naval Academy, Anden had already had thousands of flight hours in actual starship flight and just as many in sims. Most of those flight hours had been flown in ships and crafts and simulators he had either helped to build or built by him.

History:

“you gotta do with what you got”

That was a phrase Anden heard over and over again from his Father, Kirden, who worked as a mechanic at one of the smaller star ports on Lotaith. Anden learned at a very early age that there are certain facts in life. One of them was that in on a highly productive planet and well populated planet there was a lot of money to be made. Unfortunately, his family was not one of the ones that lived in that fact of life. They lived well below it. Though he grew up with that knowledge it didn’t stop him from doing exactly what his father always told him.

Always bringing home his work home to work on and repair parts from various starships, Anden’s Father learned very early that his little boy was going to follow in his footsteps. One night his father had retired early from his repair work on the accelerator of a speeder, despite and eight year-old Anden’s protests. Anden lay in his bed seeing the accelerator clearly in his minds eye. He waited until he could hear his father’s snores coming from his parent’s bedroom down the hallway of their small home. He crept back into his father’s work room and stared intently at the mechanical piece for what seemed like hours. In his minds eye he was able to take the pieces apart and see what it was that needed to be done.

Grabbing a few tools he knew he would need he began his work, his fingers and hands working slowly at first but gradually building more speed but not loosing any of his precision. For a few moments he caught himself closing his eyes as he could almost see more readily what needed to be done next in his mind. Before he knew it, before he was ready to be done working- the accelerator was finished. He flicked the test switch to check on the energy out-put.

As he waited for the reading to appear on the screen monitoring device that was when he heard the “eh hem” come from the entrance from the hall that came from his parents bedroom. Nonchalantly hiding the hand held monitor behind his back and turned to look squarely up into his Father’s eyes. His Father said nothing but merely gave a soft smile as looked right back then finally motioned with his hand to see the read out on the monitor. Anden relinquished the report on the work he had completed. His father remained silent and walked past Anden to look from the accelerator to the readout and back. Anden’s Father didn’t know how he had done it, but he had surpassed the normal operating levels. It wasn’t by much- but it was enough to make it blatantly clear that Anden would be a great mechanic. And that was only the beginning of the feats he would accomplish, Anden had promised himself that day he would make sure it.

And that he did.

Years passed and Anden had acquired and repaired parts from various types of ships. He got a job at the age of eighteen at the same Star port his Father worked at. His Mother became more and more reclusive as time went on and finally Anden asked her in earnest, more so than he had anytime before, as to why the change had come over her. She explained to him that she saw so much more for him and his future than just working the Star port until what would be the end of his days as his father had done.

Anden had only smiled and given her one of his great hugs and assured her that he knew that as well and promised her that someday he would make her very proud of him. She had looked and hard into his eyes and after a long while smiled and returned the hug and said softly that she knew he would.

His skill improved month by month working along side his father and the other experienced mechanics. His understanding of the operation, mechanics and calculations needed to make a fully functional craft neared those who had worked more than two decades. By the time he turned twenty-four, and after helping to build and complete dozens of other star crafts, he finished building a starfighter. He called it a SIE-fighter; due to it only have a single ion engine. It was a collaboration of spare parts from damaged and irreparable craft taking on the shape somewhat similar to a TIE-fighter. Needless to say it was anything but a beauty to behold. With its oval shaped single cockpit made up of mix matching panels and instruments, to and the slanted side plating projected out over the upper left and right of the cockpit.

On the maiden voyage he raised the small craft up off the landing gear amidst the cheers of all the other mechanics, his father cheering the loudest as proud tears filled his eyes. Racing out of the star ports hangar he soon reached the empty grasslands beyond the city. For the first time in his life he felt at home in somewhere other than his home with his Father and his Mother. Then he had remembered a promise he had made and arched his Sie-Fighter setting in a head for his true home. As he neared his home he saw his Mother walk out of their house, looking to the skies.

He had landed the craft and exited the hatch at the rear of the cockpit as his mother walked up to the craft and to him. Silent tears filled her eyes and she fell in his familiar hug.

“I knew it was you.” She had told him.

In that moment, Anden’s future was laid out before his eyes. He hated to tell people, but it was almost a vision in his mind. He knew what it was he was meant to do. And that was what he would start working towards. His SIE-fighter evolved and soon did have a second ion engine, although he still kept its’ initial classification, SIE-1.

Four years after his first flight in his fighter he said good-bye to it and to his Father and Mother. He had been accepted to the Naval Academy of the VE and was soon to be on his way to Abrae in the Vectra system. Saying good-bye to his parents was easier than he thought it would be. All three of them knew this was what was meant for him, and his parents had seen him grow into the confident and skilled mechanic and pilot that he was.

His father told him he would keep his fighter sate and well taken care of until he came back to claim it, and his mother had then been the one who gave him the tight hug and said, “I know you will do great things Anden.” Giving him her smile he knew so well.

“I promise, I will.” He said to her and then had returned her hug.

Now it was time to take his skills and talents to the next level and put them up against greater odds and add them with the great  companions he knew he would find in the Navy of the Vast Empire.

Two Combat Maneuvers

-The Sandwich-

This is a very well known maneuver that is used in concert between wingmen. Should fellow comrade in flight break formation to attack, of if when in formation is broken due to the flow of a battle, if the fighter is followed by an unfriendly to be attacked from behind another wingmen can fall into place behind the enemy craft and either destroy the enemy craft or deal enough damage that the unfriendly will break the attack on your comrade.

This is maneuver in which the wingmen can use communications to more effectively take out the enemy. “I can’t shake him” is a phrase that would be a good indicator to use the sandwich maneuver. The wingman who will be dropping in to attack the enemy can direct the fighter being pursued to turn to a certain mark that will make the enemy become the meat of the sandwich and into the sights of the wingmen taking out the pursuer.

-The High Speed Yo-Yo-

This offensive maneuver is a tool you can use when the enemy you are engaging from the rear quarters is maintaining breaking into a lag pursuit turn and you are unable to bring the enemy into your firing cone.

You begin the maneuver by rolling your craft slightly out of the enemies initiated break to hold you lag pursuit. Pull back on your flight control to go into a controlled climb, then invert back into the enemies turn bringing you star fighter back into your sights.

To help prevent the fighter you are engaging cancel the effectiveness of your maneuver, it is better to use a series of small yo-yo’s rather than one large yo-yo. With a large yo-yo it gives the enemy more time to react and possibly beak out of the lag pursuit turnen thus creating the need to break into another maneuver. Use the smaller yo-yo’s to bring your craft into slightly better Aot’s until you reach optimal firing range.

Andens’ Report: December 23, 2007

Activity: Joined the VE Navy December 20, 2007. Completed my biography and submitted it for review. I also completed my report on two flight combat maneuvers and began working on the flight exam.

Upcoming plans: I am looking forward to joining a Squadron upon graduation from flight school. My plan for the next few weeks is to get on duty with my designated Squadrons’ missions and assignments as well as making two to three posts of a personal story series.

Questions/Suggestions: None at this time

Crewman Anden Beliam

Nicely done Anden. Next you will be placed in a squadron by the Training Officer, Shazam. He has been busy as of late, so it may take a day or two. In the meantime you can work on the Aviator's Exam (found on the Wiki).

It has been the required two months of active service since I entered service in the VEN and I will be turning in my SAE to both Shazam and Tomas before the end of the day.

It has been great so far and I look foward to a much longer service time here in the VE.

---------Edit--------

Just handed in my SAE. Can't wait to move on to new heights in the Navy. If I do well that is. =)

I got your message, Anden, and wrote you back- it'll be just a little bit before I can give it back to you, but it shouldn't be too long.  Tom- if you see this in time, don't worry about getting a copy of your corrected exam back to Anden; however, if you think you're up to it, you can certainly send a corrected copy to me so I can see how you would have corrected it- and then maybe we'll have you do the next one?  The best to you on your exam, Anden, and great job so far in the Navy- you've really been superior.
