Staring out of a port window that belonged to an Escort Carrier, Lukas smiled at himself as he knew that he was finally apart of something big in his life. He would soon take his turn inside one of the most infamous fighters in history, and he would not let that opportunity go to waste. He took a nod to that and watched as some TIE's from his assigned squadron were heading his way after a long battle with some Rebel scum.

The cruiser that he was in took a heavy beating itself, causing him to struggle with his own footing when he was watching the battle from that window. He hoped that Viper Squadron would be able to overcome the odds and defeat another enemy of the Vast Empire, but it looks like it will not happen on this day. Seeing cannon fire of different colors lit the sky up like a fireworks display, and he was glad that the shields of the Escort Carrier held out when some of those turbolasers came towards him. It's okay, though, for many of the pilots and the crew of this ship would be coming back with their lives intact, and that's the most important thing.

With a quick turn away from the window while straightening his own uniform, Lukas started to walk towards his quarters, for it was time for him to get prepared. Soon, he will one of the many pilots who will join Viper Squadron, and when he does, he will fulfill everything that will be laid out before him.

It must have been a spectacularly sad spectacle to watch as four Tie fighter pilot tried to gain the upper hand on the loan A-wing. Try as they may and using any and all of the element maneuvers, flight one of Viper Squadron just couldn’t keep the slippery Ace pilot in their sights long enough to bring him down.

”Come on, come on…” Anden said to himself as Sicario tried once again to get behind the target and land a kill for either one of them.

The only thing Anden could see that they had been able to do was get on the opposition within their target range then the little bugger would break of into evasive action just as their green bolts slid over, below or to the side of the fast starfighter. What Anden began to realize was that even though they had a goal to engage the Awing, the enemy pilot was succeeding in doing something else.

He was leading them away.

Anden clicked his comm. Open to Sicario, “This isn’t good 3, this guy is toying with us. He is leading us away...and I am not in the mind to find out where.” He checked his flight map readout to see the location and situation of the rest of the squadron. Flight two had now joined the members in flight three engage what was now three and half flights of modified Hunters.

We gotta get back there to help them and fast. Anden knew that Z-95’s weren't much of a worry by themselves. But if you give them a few upgrades put them to use in a good flight of pilots they could cause some serious trouble for pilots in Tie Fighters.

"Copy that 4,” Sicario said then opened comm to Tomas and Aleia, ”Sir, I don't like this. He's pulling us away from the rest of the action!"

Then Anden heard Strangler comm put to words to what he knew they should, "Viper Lead, we could use some help over here!"

He waited for order that he knew would be coming. At least he thought that Tomas would see it that way, even though he had not even met personally with the CWO.

Tomas’s frustrated and concerned voice rang out through the comm quickly, "That's it. Vipers Three and Four, this A-wing's not firing on us. Get back to the rest of the squadron and help them out."

"Copy that, Viper Lead." Sicario said and Anden sent a double click over the comm to give his confirmation and the both of them moved in unison with their break off and acceleration to go help out with the rest of the Hunters.

Pushing all the power he dared into his ion engines and they sent his starfighter screaming alongside his wingman and soon were a mere 3.5 clicks away from two of the hunters in one of the flights engaging flight 3.Anden kept his hands slightly loose yet firm on his flight controls. His targeting screens showed that Strangler had been separated from his wingmate and was on the tail of a Hunter. However, he now had two hunters on his own six.

“Viper 4 to Viper 9, watch it- you got two bogeys on your tail” he said over the comm. and quickly glanced at his systems. ”on mark, turn to point 31.127”

“Copy that Viper 4.” Just as the message came to him he saw Strangler lay fire on the hunter he had targeted. The shots pelted the hunter and the ship blew apart.

Oh how I love the rapid fire of a Tie Fighter at maximum fire power.” Anden thought to himself.

He smiled to himself then clicked over to Sicario, “You got the one on the left 3?”

“…More than you know 4.” Sicario’s determined voice came back to him, which made Anden smile even bigger. He waited a few more seconds until Strangler reached the proper point in his flight path.

Almost there…almost there… “Mark.” In near perfect precision Viper 9 broke to his right leading the hunters in pursuit on as Sicario  and he barrel rolled down smoothly onto their six and together rained down fire on the hunters.

The Hunter Anden fired on tried to break away for the attack but a small quick explosion told Anden that the ship flight controls would no longer work. Another second and one of the single foils broke away from the fighter and the ship began to spin on its axis. A few more blasts and Anden knew the guy was finished. As he formed up in tight formation with Sicario he caught the momentary flash of starfighter explosion. That light was one of the best sights he had seen in a long time. His first kill as a pilot. Suddenly the controls seemed to become even more alive in his hands, his ship an extension of himself.

That’s when he heard Viper 2 yell out, "What the Frak is that!?!" Followed shortly by Tomas, and by the tone of his voice it was obvious there was not good news on the way. "Forerunner, this is Viper Lead you seeing what I'm seeing?"

A reply came out from the Forerunner, "Affirmative, Viper Lead and it’s just off our course for the objective. This fight just isn't ours to win."

the fight is over?... Anden pumped a bit more power into his scanners, extending their reach to the max and his screens soon showed him what Tomas and Aleia had picked up on. You had to respect the beauty and power the Calamari had built into their cruisers. And in something he was not to proud to respect at a greater distance with one squadron and an Escort Carrier.

That’s where that Awing was drawing us to. So close, but too far away in the amount of fire power they would need to complete this mission Anden said softly to himself just as he saw Tomas’s and Aleia’s Tie fighters screaming through a set of dogfights that caused the fighters on both sides to break of their attacks.

He and his wingmate had zeroed in on a lone Hunter and made quick work of it then pulled their ships around to fly with all the speed their Tie’s could give them and retreated back to the Forerunner.

Soon they would be close enough to hail in for authority to dock…

“What the Frak is that!?”

Ibram, Jaden and the XO had we’re about to engage a flight of z-95’s when they heard Aleia’s frantic cry over the coms. What the-?

Ibram looked over his shoulder, and that’s when he saw it: a Mon-Calamari Star Cruiser.

Well Gak me backwards…

A new voice blared over the coms. “Attention Viper Squadron. We are aborting the mission, repeat, we are aborting the mission. Get the hell outta there and back to the hanger. Emergency landings are authorised.”

Before Ibram could react, the enemy fighters we’re upon them. Jaden rose, causing one to follow him. The XO had already taken one out, and was banking away, luring his new target towards the asteroid field. That left Ibram and his target.

This Z-95 appeared to be different. It was ornately coloured, and it looked like it had a few modifications.

Mercenary. He thought.

Letting off a volley, Ibram made his target break sharply to port. Ibram gunned up his engines and followed him. Like a game of cat and mouse, Ibram pursued his target, but was unable to get a weapons lock.

This guy’s good….

Ibram noticed that he was being drawn closer and closer to the Frigate. His enemy was probably hoping one of the gunners would pick him off before Ibram got him. He let off another volley, managed to hit the target by chance. Ibram noticed that it’s shields we’re still at 100%

Well at least I know what those mods are….

Something slammed into Ibrams fighter, sending him veering off course. The frigate was taking pot shots at him.

Well gak you too.

Ibram bobbed and weaved in between some rogue asteroids, throwing off the gunner’s aim. One of the blasts shattered an asteroid he had just past. Killing his engines, Ibram hid behind another one.

With any luck they’ll think I got shredded.

Ibram checked his radar, but the enemy fighter was nowhere in sight. The frigate was now passing his position, so Ibram couldn’t resume the fight. Cursing quietly, he brought is engines up to minimal power and started making his way back to the Forerunner, using the asteroids for cover.

Anden never made it close enough to get close enough to the Forerunner to begin his emergency docking procedures. As soon as Sicario and he had finished the Z-95 and began their retreat towards the damaged Escort Carrier, he received a direct hit from behind. His rear shields down to minimum and then died as he broke formation with Sicario to take evasive action.

Blasted linked fire at maximum Anden thought to himself, redirecting his forward shields to his 6. He was actually more mad at himself than he was at his attacker. He had been so focused on reaching the Forerunner that he had neglected to keep tabs on his displays to watch out for enemies on his 6. Now the thought that came to him was that he had an enemy on his tail whose wingmate Sicario and he had just blasted and he was the ‘lucky’ one who got tabbed for retribution.

He didn’t know what had happened to Sicario and tried to hail him over the comm as he dove and sped through the various sized asteroids. Nothing.

Anden hoped that by leading off the attacking fighter he had helped make it possible for his wingmate to get back to the Forerunner.

He weaved in and out through the asteroids with the Hunter on his tail firing of blasts that blew into the asteroids as he shot glances to his systems and saw that his communications, flight map display and targeting system were all off line. He would have to do this flying blind. If he knew anything right now he knew this one thing, if he could keep his cool- then he could beat this pilot. He poured all of the power into his engines and hoped that he had succeeded in pulling away from his attacker.

Just as he broke in space that was absent of the asteroids he yanked back on his flight controls sending his fighter screaming upwards following the surface of a larger asteroid. He followed it all the way around and caught a glimpse of the chasing modified hunter just as it ducked beneath the asteroid he had just circled. He began pumping more power to give him some fire power as he dove after the now fleeing starfighter.

Flying so close to the asteroid that he could see the pits and scars of collisions with smaller asteroids he was soon close enough to the flight path of the Z-95 that he could now see the faint red glow emanating from its engines. Just a little more time.

As he broke away once again from the asteroids he saw that the headhunter pilot realized his or her mistake and was beginning to bring their fighter around. Leading his physical target sights slightly ahead of his enemy he volleyed fire at him and scored three direct hits out of five shots. In retaliation the hunter veered of it’s course and onto one that would cause Anden to over shoot him.

“Not if I can help it.” Anden said to himself. He pulled back on the controls taking his fighter into a steady climb then going into a barrel role and performed a small controlled rollaway from the turn the hunter was making and angled down below his targets path then brought his ship back up and attempted to bring his craft on the Hunters rear again.

He would succeed….or would have had the hunter still been executing his break instead of going into a  split s maneuver. ”Bugger…” Anden said a little louder than he meant to, not that it mattered. He broke into an immelman and reversed his direction to match the hunter so that now they were flying parallel with one another with a good amount of empty space between them.

Almost in perfect synchronization the hunter broke into a climb and Anden barrel rolled into a dive so that they were going head on head. Anden knew that he would have to judge the distance bye eye being with out his targeting computer. He saw the red burst from the oncoming fighter and broke into a barrel roll firing his own cannons as well. The hunter executed a barrel roll and a tight turn creating an imaginary cylinder that they both circled around as the closed on one another. Red bolts skimmed under and beneath him as well his did to the hunter.

His heart thumping in his head he took a deep breath as their fighters converged on one another. His last tow shots scored against the fighters’ shields and then Anden knew what to do. Just before his target passed him he dropped his speed to thirty percent as he pulled back hard on his controls going into a tight turn he focused hard to not let the G’s gain control over him, then punched his speed abruptly back to full as he caught a glimpse of the hunter. He began to send shot after shot towards the Hunter acting purely on instinct. His target went into a few different maneuvers but Anden was in tune with all of his attempts.

Something had triggered in him.

He didn’t know what, only that it was more than the controls coming alive in his hands as they had before. It was almost as if he could guess what the pilot was going to do before he did it. Finally either the enemy pilot had over extended their physical abilities or just couldn’t come up with any other maneuvers. In either case his flight path became straight for enough time that Anden was able to fire on him and eat away the rest of his shield and decimate his hull, watching as the fighter blew to pieces. He quickly got his bearings and put his ship back on a return course for the Forerunner. After transferring some power from his cannons to his shields, he redirected all the rest to his engines and went screaming back towards the Escort Carrier keeping an eye out for any members of the squadron who had not yet made it back.

As he made his return flight he thought about that last moment right before he had watched the fighter turn to oblivion. He deduced that it had only been a succession of accurate guesses.

It could only have been that, Anden thought to himself, and shrugged No other explanation for it. He resolutely decided. All he knew was that he wanted to do it, over and over again. It had been the greatest thrill, the most superb control he had ever had. That alone had been worth it, and coming out on top had just been the extra bliss he had received as a reward.

As Zane headed back to dock, he almost immediately discovered that he was being followed. A few more Z-95's had gotten his tail, and there was no way out, except for fighting back. Zane felt the Adrenaline pump through him, his heart starting to beat faster and faster making the perfect rhythm. Zane had wanted more action before he had to dock, and now he had it.

Almost like lightning he pulled around his TIE doing a full Vertical Reverse. Now he was behind his attackers, and they had no idea what the heck just happened. Zane used this time to kick up the engines and power up the cannons. Zane had gotten so much more used to flying that it now came almost like instinct to him.He didn't have to think, he could just do it.

Zane's ship was almost fully repaired thanks to the auto-diagnose/repair system he installed. It was a slow process but it worked, and that was what he was counting on. Zane's heart was now beating like mad as he closed in on his first victim. The adrenaline was  pumping so fast through him he almost felt invincible. One thing was sure, these one's were not getting away.

"I have you now," said Zane in an imitation that would have Darth  Vader running for his money.

Zane could here Rocketman laughing through the comlink.

"What are you laughing at Rocket?" said Zane trying not to laugh himself, and doing a poor job.

"Oh nothing," Rocketman Replied.

Zane finished laughing and within half a second was as serious as anybody in his position could be. In two seconds he had a lock on his target no sweat. Zane pressed down the knob in the center between his palm controls so that his Target system would stay locked onto his target, then flipping the small switch on the left to arm his cannons, then the one on the right to prepare his missile.

With uncanny focus Zane stared at his victim waiting for the perfect chance. The small Bio-Com in the left part of his brain (which was linked to his bionic eye) calculated every second of action, literally predicting the opponents moves. All it had to do was monitor his movements, and study them for a few seconds before the predicting was able to function.

The only downsides to it were as anything it was only so good, and it only went for a little while, although thats all the time he would need anyways. Within seconds Zane now knew exactly what his enemy was going to do next, and trusting his instincts he fired with unnerving accuracy.

The missile found it's mark like lightning hitting a small defenseless tree. With a huge boom bright orange, green, purple, red, and yellow flames erupted all in front of him, a sign nobody needed a second telling to know what it meant. But Zane still had more to go this was only just one.

Zane was getting ready for his third attack when he saw it. The Mon-Calamari Space Cruiser, and Ibram had to be right, a Mercenary. Zane lost focus of his targets , and a deep swelling hatred and pure anger erupted inside him that awakened old memories. It was the fault of an assassin, or mercenary that Zane had bionic limbs. (for more on this story follow my name in my sig to my Wiki Profile, then scroll down almost to the very end of my Bio, where it will say Biography Story Links. There follow the first link titled: "Zane's Accident")).

Zane had to use every bit of strength in his body to stop himself from opening full fire, and going berserk on the unidentified ship. But as soon as the emotions came he silenced them. Zane knew now he could not afford to lose control, especially now that it could get him killed. Zane refocused his attention on his second victim and prepared to fire.

But again he was interrupted, only this time by something he did not expect. Zane glanced up at the Mon-Calamari, and instead of just seeing the Mercenary Cruiser, he saw a second cruiser, smaller and with any luck half at least half as deadly. If it was any more than that, Zane might not make it out alive for the other cruiser was coming straight for him.

"Rocket, we have an another unknown cruiser heading my way," said Zane.

But he got no reply. Rocketman had probably already made it to the docks, and had shut down the TIE's comlinks. Zane was on his own now. He could either ignore him and go for the Z-95's or go and see what he was really made of. Zane chose the second, and most dangerous option. It was time to live the Viper Motto, "We FLy You Die..."

With those exact words in mind Zane dived straight down. Pulling a High G Barrel Roll, Zane spiraled around his attacker. Then at the perfect moment pulled out and pulled his ship right. Now he was behind the attacker, making him now the attacker. Zane, using his Bionic Eye, focused in on the other cruiser, and let the Bio-Com start calculating away.

But the Cruiser was well trained, and easily pulled a Vertical Reverse almost as fast as Zane could say the move. Now Zane was in front of the the enemy and that was never a good place to be in a battle with aircrafts. Zane flipped around and now stood head on with the cruiser. He had only seconds to pull this off, and if he didn't do it exactly perfect, he would be incinerated within seconds.

As fast as his reflexes would allow Zane pulled an Offset Head on Pass. This, at least to Zane, was one of the dumbest, and most dangerous things he could possibly do. Zane had only practiced this  expert maneuver, but now it was life or death, literally. Without thinking Zane started the maneuver. Timing his his spin as accurately as he possibly could, Zane began to sweat.

Suddenly everything went into slow motion, Zane was now at the point where his opponent was now directly above him, which meant he had almost completed his 360 degree turn. Zane watched in perfect slow motion action as the cruiser passed above him, and Zane went on to finish the turn. But before that happened Zane felt a shudder as his TIE barely scraped the bottom of the Cruiser, and with all the luck in the world, Zane was still able to safely pass.

Zane was slammed into reality and pretty damn fast too. His ship had taken something similar to the sonic boom effect, and was now rocketing out of the end of the turn in super sonic high speed fury.
Now at least he had speed on his side, well for the moment at leas, which meant he had to act fast.

Zane was now directly behind his target, and with no aim shot a few quick, and  high powered burst at the cruiser, and luckily they found their target. Now at least he had him stalled. Zane took these few precious moments to finish the crucial calculating. Within moments he was finished and already had his missile ready, and Zane fired. Again with uncanny unnerving accuracy his missile found it's mark.

The missile hit the cruiser with such deadly aim that it literally blew the engines out leaving the enemy helpless, like a newborn infant. But Zane felt now mercy for the cruiser, and harshly with not a single thought to what he was doing, or who might have been on that cruiser, fired the last missile. With a sickening boom the cruiser erupted with a rainbow colored flame.

Zane still in fury watched in pleasure as the metal shrapnel and whatever else was left was incinerated, or blasted away. But it was short lived as Zane too had miscalculated the blast radius, and was soon thrown away. Everything for the young pilot Zane ZyCrusis went black.

His last thoughts before he was thrown into unconsciousness, were among "Oh shit,", "Well at least I killed the damn thing,"and finally
"Plus I'm heading towards the docks, somebody will find m....." Then he was out like a light bulb."

A notification flash from his repair system let Anden know that he now had full system functionality. Anden smiled as his targeting system came online and with a distinct tone let him know something that he already knew. He didn’t even bother looking at his targeting screen and blew away the rest of the Z-95 shields that was in front of him and proceeded to fire until he saw the left foil blow away just after the pilot ejected. He pulled away in a tight barrel roll away from the spinning starfighter he had just vaped and put himself back on course towards the Forerunner. He knew that he needed to get back to the Forerunner as commanded, but he couldn’t, he wouldn’t let himself get shot out of his starfighter. Not if he could help it.

Off his port side he saw an explosion and glanced at his flight map and saw Viper 12’s fighter get swallowed up in the explosion. He was sure that he saw the pilot; he didn’t know his name, ejected before his ship exploded. That was quite the kill, He thought to himself seeing as their were no other fighter in the area, [i]I hope they can get to him before we pull out

”Viper 4 to Forerunner, do you copy.” Anden said over urgently over the comm.

“Forerunner to Viper 4, go ahead.” Said a female voice and he pictured an imperial communications officer with a head set on and staring dutifully at her screen.

”Requesting a recovery shuttle, reporting a pilot in need of pick-up…” he said checking his flight screen again and relayed the exact location of Viper 12’s beacon signal. It was odd, the camaraderie he felt for his downed fellow Viper, even though he had never met the pilot before. He truly hoped that they would be able to get him.

The female communications officer voice came back over to him, “Copy that Viper four, a shuttle has been dispatched to retrieve Viper 12. Over”

Anden breathed a sigh of relief, “Roger Forerunner. Returning as commanded, ETA is point seven five minutes. Requesting advanced authorization to dock.”

“Request granted. We await your return. Forerunner out.”[/b]

:::Aboard the Forerunner:::

Anden could hear the hiss of the hatch above his head disengage as he released took off his helmet and breathed in the now familiar taste of recycled air on board the Escort Carrier.

As he got up and out of his fighter and up onto the deck, rotating his head to loosen the muscles in his neck.

“What the hell happened to you out there?” a voice called out to him from below. He looked down to see a pilot standing below on the decking of the bustling docking bays deck. He only guessed that it was his Wingmate, Phineus Gage.

Anden grinned and tucked his helmet under his right arm and put his left hand on the ladder with his feet on the outside of it slid down the length of the ladder, applying pressure so that he slowed just before he hit the floor, then stood to face his wingmate.

“Sorry about that Gage, nearly got vaped by some hunters and had to do....” then he remembered the feeling and perfect precision he had experienced out there and realized he still couldn’t quite explain it. Really explain it.

“…some quick maneuvers. My comm, along with a few of my other systems and didn’t come back online until just before getting back to the Forerunner.” He finished as R7 rolled up and gave a few beeps and blurps.

Anden nodded and asked, “What about Viper 12, were they able to get him?”

To which R7 gave a quick affirmative. Anden nodded to the droid and nodded his head to his Tie Fighter. “You wanna make sure that the techs and mechs don’t mess up the new mods we added to the scanners?”

A quick succession of bleeps came by and R7 had already connected to the computer that read into Anden’s Tie Fighter. Anden began walking around with Sicario helping where they could with various tasks and trying not to get in the way of everything.

“That could have gone a lot better….or a lot worse.” Anden said to himself. He didn’t know Sicario had heard him but he saw him nod in solemn agreement.

Zane was somehow successfully recovered from the blast unharmed. When he awoke he had been warned to take the next few days rather slowly for some surgeries had been preformed, and for his health he had been warned.

Zane took this information as something minor. He had gone into a medical facility a normal man once, and when he came out he had bionic limbs. Zane was sure he could find some way to cope with these surgeries are the pain or whatever was supposed to follow.

After being briefed on his condition, Zane had waited for the doctors, nurses and medical droids to leave, before he ripped everything off and headed out he window. Zane then proceeded to head back to the room where Anden and the other were.

Anden and a few others greeted him as he arrived into the room. Zane greeted them in return and settled on a nearby couch.

"So that was some fight we saw earlier, the blast was very cool too,"said Anden.

"Thanks, I didn't plan to be so close to that blast, but as always errors are made. I am just lucky I am not dead," replied Zane.

"So I figure we head back to Naval Command now huh?" said Zane.

"Thats more or less the case," chipped in C-PX3.

"Well it was all fun while it lasted at least then," said Zane.

Things had not gone well on the mission: Operation Mjolner. Although it was Zane's first, and hopefully the first of many, it was indeed an utter failure. None of them were prepared to face a fully armed Mon Calamari Cruiser.

Because of this among a few other reasons, the Viper Squadron was  then ordered  to retreat, dubbing the mission a failure. Zane was not to happy to learn that he had to retreat. But he was ordered to and so he finished his last battle, also almost getting himself killed, then without a choice literally "retreated" back to the mission freighter.

Once everybody has successfully arrived back to the Freighter, they headed back to Naval Command, to report what they had found.
