It was raining heavily on Tormar. Tongues of lightning spread through the sky, followed by thunderous sound. Water drops fell down for days, without any indication when the sun would shine again.  It was winter on Tormar, and winter meant rain, lots of rain.  Riqimo sighed and wondered how the hell his squad wound up out here alone, no support, and more than enough hostiles around.

The first time he was here, it wasn't much better; this time though he had to make the decisions that would put the squad at risk.  He made a quick glance to make sure that Jelly and Wicket were doing their watch duty before wrapping his poncho tightly and went to sleep against a tree in the undergrowth, the rain running off him heavily.

...  ...  ...

Riqimo winced at the feedback from the speakers as he tapped the mic to test it, the squad had likewise expressions of their eardrums almost bleeding.  Muttering a quick apology Riq continued on with the assurance the mic was indeed turned on.  Life only got busier when they returned; Kairo had retired and put Riq into position as head of Storm, so now that was yet another tack of work put on him.  He had considered leaving the squad to a new Squad Leader, but Eclipse kept his sanity... he saw Dax fidgeting in his seat to get Jelly to stop poking him... well, kept his sanity most of the time.

As the feedback screeched stopped echoing around the room and Riq's hearing returned to around the area of processing frequencies normally, he sighed a little and pushed back the memories of their target planet from his mind for now, "Tormar.." the word was a nightmare in itself to the medic, the very arrangement of letters meaning a drop to hell and a scratching fight back up.  He took a deep breath and pushed back on the memories harder and repeated the word slowly, "Toormaaaar..." he closed his eyes for a brief moment and quickly moved on before the memories would creep back again, "a dangerous place in which the VE has been assisting the locals for quite a while.  The opposition is mainly in the form of guerilla groups and we are being assigned for recon purposes, not actual combat.  However given the nature of the planet and the stability of it, we will most likely be called upon to defend ourselves frequently."  Continuing through the briefing with short, quick, choppy sentences, Riqimo tried to maintain a calm exterior while sweat was starting to form on his brow, "...and then the..." Riqimo winced at a scream in the distance and opened his eyes to bright white lights and a figure silhouetted over him.  "Buttshot?" was all he managed to mutter before blacking out again.

...  ...  ...

"Doc! You alright?" a somewhat gruff voice asked, all Riq could do was blink at even brighter lights and another silhouette figure over him.

"Erm... who are you?" He rubbed his forehead and strained his eyes to see.

"He can't remember!" a young voice called off to the side, "He hit his head too hard!"

Riq cut him off sharply, "Dax shut up, I'm fine just where the hell am I?" he propped himself on one arm to look around a med bay.  The face that was over him was recognized as Jelly Bean under normal lighting conditions.

"Oh..." the comm tech stuttered, "My bad..."

One of the staffers in the medbay came up with a datapad and used his stylus to run through some things, "Well... he is perfectly fine, can't find anything wrong with him.  He should be set for deployment."

"What a relief," Riq muttered under his breath low enough so no one heard him.  He blinked when he saw Alater come in with little white and red tubs of food hanging by wires from his claws and Wicket holding the wooden stick utensils for them, "Doctor! You are alright!" the Sullustan pranced forward to give the man a big hug.

"Umm, Wicket, he still needs to breathe," Jelly pulled the hairless alien off the panting squad leader.

"Err, anyways," Riqimo took one of the tubs and a pair of the wooden sticks to start eating, "We head out tonight with the normal Vast Empire Army Troopers, only stormies on the shuttle.  So please don't scare them too much.  They are mostly greens to combat here."  Riqimo blinked to hide a tear at the memories beginning to flood back into his consciousness.

Dax slowly made his way to the place he called “Home”, even though it was half the home he had back on Naboo.

As millions and million of distant memories started to circle through his mind, things he regretted, he almost thought he was going to start... crying. no soldiers don't cry. Yet, Riqimo. Thoughts cam faster this time, yet Dax wasn't a thinker he was a dreamer.

As he slowly made it passed Saph's room he wondered what was going through her head. Since the last mission Jersh and Dax had probably put her through... a lot. Yet, she had kept her composure, and though she may have gotten mad a couple of times she didn't seem to be agitated... yet.

As he let the thoughts drift to the back of his mind, others crept into there places, making it harder to remember what he was going to do.

Dax walked into his room nonchalantly, quickly sitting down, almost feeling like he was going to go straight through his bed... luckily it was harder than it looked. I want to talk to Doc see if we can get softer beds.

which brought up another interesting fact, did he really miss naboo, or was it the fact they were going to a jungle planet that the thoughts started to creep up in his mind. Or was it because he had that dream about his father, but still what did he mean his destiny wasn't complete? It scared him to even think about it.

“Hey, Dax, you got a minute?” Wicket peaked his head in. looking around almost dumb founded, almost as if he was looking for someone.

“Yea. What ya need?” Dax said. He picked up his helmet and started polishing it. Waiting for Wicket to continue speaking, which seemed like a while.

“you got any extra ammo? Or a gun you aren't taking?” Wicket grinned, or at least what Dax thought was a grin.

“Yea, I have a few things, but if I may ask, what happened to your weapons?” Dax asked looking up with a  puzzled look on his face.

“let's just say I ran into some trouble at the training grounds...” Dax just left it at that and went to the closet to see what he could spare. Secretly he didn't want to loan anything, but dax had known wicket for a while. So it wasn't a problem.”Pick your poison.”

Wicket walked over to the bed and looked at the various weapons dax had laid out. He picked up a sert of knives, which were kinda rusted. But finally decided on a gun that was about half the normal size of a regular Blaster rifle, however it didn't have a name, at least, none that either of them could remember.

“Where did you pick this one up?” Wicket asked holding it up.

“Wouldn't you like to know?” a Grin spread along Dax's face. Not in a million years would he tell, which would stay a secret for a while. At least at the moment.

Alater grunted as he dropped the weight back onto the rack. Despite his lack of pores for sweat he still felt like he was going to die, his body tempature excelerated a lot by the free weights. Free weights, they were always his preference. The muscle building machines and exercises did not give the right feel as he held them inbetween his hands.

As he left the weight room, he looked down at the bandage marks on his arm. Just before this morning he had cut them off so the rest of the squad wouldn't see or suspect much, but Saph's tearing bite marks were still visible if you looked hard enough. The bandage on his shoulder and the other various scratches couldn't be hid though.

As he returned to his room, he slammed his fist against the wall. Things were just so damned confusing! Memories of that afternoon mingled with his homeworld to construct a vivid set of memories that brought pain and happyness at the same time. Never before had any female treated him with such abandoned, care, and respect. He had always and always will be Krsst.

Moving to the rear section of his small barracks room, Alater removed Long Fang from its place on the wall, the blood never having been cleaned. The scent of the mixed bloods wafted up to his nostrils as he grinned in a nearly sinister manner. Though she had won that fight, it was Alater that had truely been the victor. Undefeated his tail!

Alater spun around, sheathing the sword as he walked towards the infernal racket of somebody beating on his door. He through the weapon under the bed and clicked the button to open the door.

"What do you..." Was all he got out before he looked down to see Saph standing at his door, obvious with something on her mind. She slammed past him into his room, muttering something about a big brute. Alater shut the door, and locked it.

"Saph what are you..." Alater started.

"Look Alater, I've just got to get this straight." Saph said, looking at him for only a second before continuing. Alater cocked his neck in curiosity.

"I've been through way too much shit recently to become confused or hurt again. If this, whatever this is, works outs, fine, but I'm not ready for more then what we've got right now." She said, looking up at him with a mix of anger, determination and a sad puppy look.

Alater grasped her by the shoulders, ocean blue eyes staring down at her as he nodded. Enveloping her in a mutual hug Alater growled a bit before pulling her away.

"You do what you have to do, and I can promise the same. We are One my Little One and that can't change." Alater growled out, his throat suddenly hurting as he moved to open the door.

Dax sat down on the bed in the lonely quitness. Thoughts drifted through his head almost as if he was starting to learn how to think... not dream. to many... memories. it wasn't like he didn't want to remember, it was more like he wanted... to remember the way he thought things had happened, yet he couldn't.

Saph the moment they had shared, but Jersh... He couldn't think about it, the last time he had it almost cost him his life. He did love her, cared about her, but he didn't want to put her through what he had the last time... after all it was his fault. He had never understood why, but still nothing was understandable.

can't think about this, gotta practice. Slowly dax got up off the bed, it was a relief since the bed was hard as a stone, and the room was freezing which made it even worse than it had been before.

As he grabbed his duffel bag a knock could be heard at the door... a little weary he made his way towards it. Hoping to god it wasn't another eclipse member asking for a weapon, if he gave out another...

To his surprise though it wasn't it was Doc, he was looking better now, but still the hurt could be seen in his eyes.

“Dax, I would like to talk to you.” He let himself in, not even asking if he could come in. instead just heading in.

“Okay? What is it?” Dax leaned up against the wall folding his arms, he was hoping he could get to the training room before they had to leave, but it didn't look like that was going to happen. Still he couldn't complain.

“I don't want another incident like last time... no dreaming.” A smile spread across Doc's face, Dax didn't think that was what he had really meant.

“I know... but seriously without it, I don't think we would have them anymore.” Dax said.

“That's not what I meant, and you know it. And yes your right. But still keep your emotions in check.”He stood up to leave, leaving the room just as he had entered.

I will try not to boss, but you know things happen... Yet he didn't want to go through the same thing like the last time. He didn't care even now, all that was on his mind was the mission. He knew though it wouldn't always be this way.

"You do what you have to do, and I can promise the same. We are One my Little One and that can't change." Alater growled out, his throat suddenly hurting as he moved to open the door.

Saphira merely cocked her hips to the left, crossing her arms as she did it. Her eyes soaked the lizard in with a huff.

"One? You'll have to explain to me exactly how other then you biting my flesh..." She replied as he opened his door. Saphira wasn't in much of a mood say one to just fight. Things were just way to damn complicated for her at the moment.

Lord, this squad has the largest damned love triangle or infatuation I have ever seen

She thought to herself, brushing past him before Alater could say anything else to her. Maybe it was perhaps they were such a small unit that personal feelings just mingled. Hell she never had this issues in the academy.

Alater merely let out a low growl before grabbing her arm. Holding up her elbow before he yanked her close to him. Head lowering she could feel his mucky lizard breath peeling off her kin as his tongue snaked out. Draping across her cheek for a moment before letting go.

"All in due time my Little One.." He chuckled, watching her expression as he tasted her sweet flesh. Saphira merely rolled her eyes before pulling away from him. The end of her lekku smacking him against his arm as she snapped her head away and headed back down the hall. Alater just laughed and watched her leave. No doubt to head out and cause some issues that the whole base would surly find out by the end of the day.

Saphira sighed, her boots tapping on the floor as she felt Alaters piercing eyes watch her leave.

One of these days I shall have to give him his own nick name.

She thought to herself turning down the hall towards the training area. Passing other members rooms a sigh left her lips. Her thoughts fell like water droplets. Thinking of the guys, that being Dax, Alater, Jersh and one other that was on the plate. Drama was a much bothered thing.

"What am I going to do..."

Whispering to no one apparent as her left hand draped over her coveralls to her lekku . Touching it softly as she formed a determined plan. Anyone who knew her would know that was the look of planning something. To the squad it meant trouble and another round of stories as she managed it.

"Things have been too quiet around here.. Time for some fun.."

Saph smiled....

"I hope you aren't planning something to warrant more marks Saphira.."

Came the still stern voice of Doc. Saph stopped to see him move out of Dax's room.Damn it.. She thought. Now she would have to manage it more carefully. Dax himself popped his head out from the door. Both their eyes met and instantly she had to look away. Now wasn't the time. It was hard enough trying to sort threw the missions.. She didn't need a fight now.

"Uh.. No.. Course not.. Just thinking how good it is to have you back.." She replied smoothly. Masking her face as Doc looked at her for a moment. Things were, from what he was told, were much quieter while he was..away. He knew that look in her eyes. Now that he was back it looked like Saph was going to amuse the squad and pang him once more.

SHe amuses the other members

He thought to himself. Knowing that he would have to keep a watchful eye on her from now on.Perhaps I should assign her something to do before anything happens

Good idea..It's been too long.

Came the audible voice in his head.

No.. Absolutely not..

Your still weak Riq..

Don't remind me.. I will deal with her..

No reply came back. Doc wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not. He was tired of it, but of course he should probably have a talk with her anyway. Perhaps that would keep her from starting something. Wishful thinking right?

"Of course you aren't..." He replied ina dry voice. Saph gave a sly smile. Her expressions very audible for a moment before she hide them again. It was a game and Doc wondered how in his absence she had managed to make Sargent with her run of paper trails.

"What would make you think I was?" She replied, looking back over to Dax who couldn't help but smile.

"She has been good recently Doc.. honestly.. I think the rank went to her head.. being respectable now and all.." He replied, watching as Saph actually snorted a laugh. Riq crossed his arms and clearly wasn't impressed.

"Maybe that was because a certain someone wasn't here hmmm? Regardless I need to speak with you in private later on Saph.."

She murmured her agreement and snapped her head back to see Alater round the corner and about frozein mid-step.

"What's this, a hall party and I wasn't invited?" He replied as his squad mates started to chuckle.

Dax saw the way she hasd looked at him , who knows maybe she could have been annoyed, but he knew with doc being around he couldn't further the problem. He didn't want to either.

He walked made his way briskly to the hangar. Hoping he could make it before anyone else, maybe this time he could get a better spot on the shuttle than last time, course he always did end up sitting in the seat closest to the front, which probably would be the reason he got mad during parts of the mission. I am hot-tempered by nature, I can't help it.

He dodged a couple of Generals, who seemed to not care if they ran into anyone. A couple times Dax had to use his reflexes to swing his duffel bag in front of him, so that it beat against his chest so it wouldn't catch on to anyone.

He eventually realized he was going faster than he would have wanted to.... he wasn't walking any longer.

“DAX!!! wait up.” Dax spun swinging his bag with him, almost taking out a sodier in the process.  Finding out who was following, or calling him. Lucky for him it was someone he was willing to talk to, specially after the recent events.

“Whoa your the last person I expected. What's the matter?” Dax stared at Jelly, who was trying to catch his breath. His hair was dripping with sweat.

“Just... got.. back ... from.. trianing.” Jelly was timing his breaths almost perfectly. Yet, he still needed to catch his breath of Dax might be cleaning him up off the floor.

“Cool, where' your stuff?” Dax watched as Jelly slowly looked back the hall. There sure enough was his duffel bag stuff strewn all over. Which was surprising that nobody had notice. And the halls were stuffed.

“Yea... long story.”

“Is that why you wanted me to stop?”

“Wow you can read minds, I am proud of you.”

“Alright, let's go.” Yea, and now I am going to have to sit up front... wonderful. Instead of complaining out loud though, he decided to just help out. And if he did it fast enough, he still might get to the hangar in enough time. this isn't going that well.

“Wouldn't you like to know?” a Grin spread along Dax's face. Not in a million years would he tell, which would stay a secret for a while. At least at the moment.

"Ah, in that case, I don't want it anymore." Wicket paused for a moment then slapped his forehead. "Silly me. I still have my weapons. The ones I was using in the training grounds were borrowed. And I wasn't really training either. Just chit chatting with Goblin. Anywho, I'm gunna get going. I have stuff to see, people to do. Err...I mean people to see, stuff to do." Wicket waved as he exited Blackout's room.

Wicket headed down the hallways of the Eclipse barracks. Everyone was up to their own stuff. The new recruit AsChiLn was hanging around with Riqimo learning his way around. The others were all over the place. Eclipse had been very busy as of late. One mission right after another.

Wicket continued to wander throughout the barracks when he noticed the door to his quarters slightly open. He walked up to the door slowly, up against the wall. The smell of smoke lingered through the air. Who the hell is going through my stuff? Has to be someone who smokes... Wicket thought to himself as he put his hand on the door. He slid it open and shouted "Who is in here?!" He looked around the room and saw Durandal, a new friend of his casually sitting on the bed.

"Wicket! How are ya?!" Durandal shouted.

"Duran! How many times have I told you not to smoke!" Wicket went up and grabbed the cigarette out of Durandal's mouth, then threw it in the trash can without noticing the paper at the bottom. "So what's up?"

"Oh nothing much, just wanted to stop by and see what you were doin'." Durandal said. "Figured we could go get lunch or something. I'm pretty hungry actually."

"Ok. Sounds good to me. Just let me go see something right quick." Wicket went off to his room to see if he put all of his weapons away after returning home from the previous mission. He looked around the room for a couple of minutes trying to remember where he put them. "Dammit Duran! Put out the damn cigarette!" Wicket shouted from the other room, smelling smoke.

"What are you talking about. I don't have one lit." Durandal replied.

"What?" Wicket came running out of the bedroom looking around. He noticed smoke rising from the trash can in the corner. "Shit!" He shouted running to get some water from the sink. "Try to blow the fire out!"

"What the hell Wicket! This isn't a freaking birthday candle!" Durandal shouted back. "Hurry up with the damn water!"

Wicket cam running back with a glass of water. "You do it! You do it!" He yelled, afraid of the fire. He handed the glass to Durandal. Durandal took the glass of water and splashed it on the trash can.

A few seconds later the flames went out with a sizzle. Wicket flopped down on the bed and took a big sigh of relief. "Whew that was close." He looked over and saw that Riqimo and AsChilon were looking in shaking their heads. "It's under control!" Wicket said.

"He tends to over react to things..." Riqimo told AsChilon as they walked off.

"So. Ready to eat?" Durandal asked.

"I guess so." Wicket said, still catching his breath. "Let's go.

The two headed down to the cafe area and found some empty seats. Wicket took a seat and saved the other for Durandal, who was in line to get some food. A few moments passed and Durandal came back with a plate full of food. "You gunna eat anything?" Durandal asked.

"Yeah, I usually just eat other people's food. That's why I thought you got soo much." Wicket replied.

"Actually, I was just very hungry. But if you ant some go right ahead and help yourself." Durandal replied.

The two started talking about each others squads and what they have been up to. Occasionally, they would make fun of someone as they walked passed. Wicket enjoyed gossiping, so he tried to do it as much as he could.

They continued to eat their meal when suddenly Wicket remembered he had to get down to the hangar for the squads next mission. "Damn. I got to go. We our on our way again. I still have to get my stuff from my room. So if you could do me a big favor and run down to the bay and tell Doctor or whoever you see from Eclipse that I might be late?"

"Sure thing Wickie." Durandal said. With that, Wicket rushed to his room.

Once in his room, Wicket gathered up all of his supplies that he would need. Weapons, armor, and whatever else he usually took with him for entertainment. He didn't waste anytime hurrying because Riqimo was really getting frustrated with Wicket's tardiness, although he was quite used to it. Once he finished packing his stuff, he ran out the door.

Meanwhile Durandal went down to the hangar and looked around for Eclipse. He saw Dax walking towards the hangar with Jelly. "Hey, have you two seen Riqimo around anywhere?"

"Yeah he should be up there some." Dax replied.

"Alright thanks guys." Durandal walked up to where Riqimo was standing. "Riqimo?"

"Yes?" Riqimo replied.

"Hey, Don't know if you've seen me around, but I'm Durandal, one of Wicket's friends. We went out to eat some lunch but he remembered that he had to get down here. So he might be a little late."

"Ah ok. I kinda figured he would be late. He always is. Thanks for telling me though." Riqimo replied.

"Yeah. Well he told me to tell you. So anyway, I won't bother you anymore. I'll be going now. See you 'round." Durandal waved goodbye and headed off.

A few minutes later Wicket showed up. "Sorry I'm late again Doctor."

"Well, at least you are here. And I'm assuming you have all your stuff?" Riqimo asked.

"Yeah I'm pretty sure." Wicket replied. "I'm all ready!"

Riqimo sighed and begun head count.

Dax was starting to get fidgety as he waited for the final check up on the shuttle. He really didn't want to sit in front. It was a pet peeve of his. Not to mention I have to contact... the  thought drifted away as he tried to think of the ways he could do that, without doc finding out. Afterall she had contacted him more than once before, he just never told anyone. Now, he last email was the most nerve wracking, but he couldn't do anything about it... until they got back. If he got back.

“Dax, you seem tense.” Jelly said walking past him. The thought registered. The shuttle was ready, and now he was going to get a bad spot. Fierfek

Why did he just swear in mando'a? It didn't matter, he still had to figure out what exactly she had meant in her last message to him. The fact that she even got past VE security was beyond him, but still they both had always been into computers, whether they were a separate race, according to the worlds standards.

“Hey, are you going to just stand there are you going to move.” This time Doc was prodding him to move. Which he didn't like at all.

“I am coming.” Dax slipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out his datapad. He walked carefully up the ramp so that he could read while walking, which was even a feat at the speed he was going.

“Get in.” Wicket pulled him in, which surprised him a little considering his size.

“Sheesh, give the guy a break. He's in his electronic state, very gentle.” The shuttle erupted into and outpour of laughter. Dax looked over at wicket who had started the whole thing.  Dax just took his seat at the front of the shuttle... like usual.

He felt like the outcast of the squad sometimes. Like he usual felt  around groups of people. Maybe it was because he was above a normal humans abilities. Sorta like Alater, only part human. I can't take him, I know that, but still I... am not normal.

“What you reading.” came the familiar voice of  wicket, who was hanging over his seat.

“Nothing, just a novel.” Dax quickly threw the datapad into his bag. Which was oddly left open.

“Okay.” Wicket went off like a kid looking for something to do.

what's gotten into him? Slowly He tried to bring the data pad back out. Trying to think of a way to find the IP through it, but unless he had it hooked up to the communications of the shuttle he couldn't access the net. In any shape of form. luckily I know how to.

He got up out of his seat, hoping he could get to the box in the back before the lifted off, or he was going to have a hell of a time explaining why he was thrown against the front wall to doc. As he made his way back, he ran into saph. Who like in the hall gave him the same look, or maybe she was annoyed by something that had happened. What did I do... He just shrugged it off and finally made his way to the back. It was a mess, but this was the easiest way to get to communications. now where do you keep it?

It was probably a nice little hut in the daylight... It was a weird thought for a squad leader, peering out the window and tense for any sign of movement. A back corner of Riqimo’s mind was still able to notice the damp, green scent of the herb and flower garden along the outside stone walls, even over the sharp smell of the superglue and bacta holding Lance Corporal Rike’s guts together.

The Corporal was still blissfully unconscious, sprawled on the bed behind Riqimo. The medic’s eyes were on the window and his ears were perked backwards for any sound from the Corporal. If Rike lived, there would be infections to fight. He might not be able to soldier anymore. He might never heal. Even if he lived...

Downstairs, he could hear Wicket and Dax bicker good-naturedly for a moment. Saph’s softer voice rose and fell again too. She sounded more amused than annoyed, which was a good thing. She wasn’t a shrieker, a small mercy.

A quick blur of movement in the glen outside made him tense. He didn’t dare waste a shot until he was sure. One good thing about the full moon was the abundance of light. The bad thing was what the light shone on. It rose out of the underbrush and looked at the hut, it was outlined in silver, the long hair highlighted by the moon. It tilted its head to look directly at Riqimo. His finger tightened on the trigger, but then it was gone, in another rustle. He forced himself to relax again.

...  ...  ...

All of Eclipse was on the shuttle, save their leader who closed his eyes briefly in frustration and relief.  He had a small delay in their flight, new intel reported a strategic adviser for the guerrillas was in the general area of Eclipse's recon task.  Glancing at his datapad to open up a new message the squad leader rubbed his eyes a little, sighed, and turned around.  There was a clank as metal impacted against the ground a polite inquiry "Excuse me sir, but could you please help me back up?"  Ignoring the chrome protocol droid, Riq stepped into the turbolift and waited until he came to the floor for the Dark Dragoons briefing room.

Peeking inside, he saw a few seated troopers and Aphamos at a podium.  "Ah, Doc," the Dragoon SL nodded towards Riq, "We just finished up, thanks for holding the shuttle for us."

Riqimo brushed some imaginary dirt off his grey uniform sleeve with a small hint of nervousness, "No problem, not like we can take off without an asset like you folks at our side to get these objectives handled."

Aph shook Riq's hand as the squad swung their duffel bags over their shoulders and headed out the door, "Gratz on the new position, Doc."

Riqimo nodded, "Kai's... in a better place now..." If you can consider that a better place... Shrugging it off, Riq changed the subject as they all tossed their bags into the cargo area of the shuttle and Aph took the hint to drop it.  Probably think that's why I'm depressed... when it's actually Tormar...

Taking a seat somewhere in the middle of the shuttle near a green VEA soldier staring out his window, Riqimo inhaled a deep breath as he brushed his fingers over the scar tissue, and a few scabs from the recent reopening, that shapparel gave him the last time he was here... blood flowing freely as a fountain.  Riqimo questioned sometimes if it would have been better if he had died there... what if he wasn't lucky for surviving that?  What if he was unlucky... cursed by that memory... haunted in his dreams by faces and names, explosions, gunfire... death...

Riq closed his eyes and the socializing of Eclipse and the 'Goons, a sharp contrast to the silent VEA greens, slowly faded away to a nightmare...  It was going to be a long thirty six hour flight...

OOC:
Here and down is some info slash whateva on Tormar.  I plan to post on that story as well during this, so hopefully it will get ya'll some more info as we go along.

Mako still felt mushy from all of the drinking the night before.  He had left the prisoners med-bay with his newfound information on the strategic advisor for the tribe on Tormar: Gabriel (http://comnet.imperialnetwork.com/topic/8848/page/1/).

He was somewhat surprised that the Captain had spilled so easily in private, she had been so tough in front of her troops.  Perhaps she saw that there was no way out for her now.

He took this information straight into Aphamos’ office and reported it all.  Aph looked at him with strange eyes and simply said: “ Thanks.  I will add it in to my briefing for DD this afternoon.”

Mako thought about this brief response.  Aphamos seemed to have a lot on his mind.  The new trooper had not seen him much, but the two had gained a certain rapport in their interactions.

Aphamos was always the calm hand of persuasion when Mako went astray.  Mako had already had a multitude of interactions within VE, and not all of them went the way he had hoped they would.  He had not even been on a mission with DD yet, so he hoped that this briefing was about announcing some action.  The guys in the barracks were getting a bit restless in the absence of things to do.

That was the issue with soldiering.  You were trained to kill, infiltrate, destroy, make things right.  You were also trained to keep your self and your room clean, but these things were secondary, not brainwork, rather instinct after a while.  Soldiers go stir crazy if you don’t give them something to blow up or shoot at every once in a while.

Mako went and got some lunch at the same Canteena that they had spent their evening in.

It was not the same in the daylight, but you could still smell the stale sweat and spilled booze on hot days.  This day was a bit cooler.  Winter was setting into this section of the galaxy, and Mako was ready for the cold.

He ate lunch and went back to the barracks to pack his things.  When he arrived, Gates was still sleeping awkwardly on the edge of his bunk.  Mako walked up to his bunk and gave it a kick.  The jarring of the bed did not stir Corporal Gates very much at all.  Mako decided to have some fun.

He got really close to the troopers face and yelled to the top of his lungs:  FIRE!  Gates!  Get UP THERE IS A FIRE!

The trooper startled to an upright position, muttering incomprehensibles at whatever had shaken him, and then saw Mako’s grin.

“That’s it Sanguin!  You are going to get it!”

Gates leaped from the bed and went at Mako in a serious, yet brotherly attempt at smashing his defenses.  Mako was taken a back for a second, and then was glad that Gates was still half asleep.  HE was able to disturb his friend’s coordination and set him off balance.  Gates stumbled past him a few steps and decided that now was not the time.

“Well….You are still getting it Mako.  I just need to plan it out better.” Gates said.

Mako was happy to see him in such an aggressive mood. From the little bit that he had heard of Tormar it did not seem like a friendly place at all.

“We have a briefing at 1430.  Better get packed up.” Mako told Gates.

The trooper mumbled something about changing the subject and went to his locker to get ready.  Mako went to his own locker and started getting his gear sorted. HE tried to pack an array of items, but did not know enough about their mission to plan well.

He plugged his C3-POD into his ears and started listening to his music.

Orobos walked in and went straight to his locker.  Mako had not had that many dealings with Orobos, but he seemed like a cool enough guy.  Mako nodded to acknowledge the new entrants arrival and went back to packing.

When the three were all packed, they headed out for the briefing room.  They arrived a few minutes early and saw Aphamos examining his datapad.  HE looked up briefly and said that the briefing would start in a few minutes.

The briefing went on without any major surprises for Mako, other than the fact that they would be going on a mission with Eclipse Squad.  He didn’t quite feel comfortable with this because he hadn’t even been around his own squad long enough to trust them fully, and now he had to meet a whole other team and trust them with his life as well.

HE had heard good things about their squad, though, and could easily make friends when they didn’t introduce themselves by trying to prove their dominance over him.

The briefing described their target as a strategic analyst, Gabriel, who was working with one of two warring tribes on planet Tormar.  The planet was 95% water, and so it didn’t seem obvious why two warring tribes would pay for outside help in their personal skirmishes, but Aphamos used the information that Mako had reported to him and explained this a bit:

Gabriel was a former pirate who had gotten rich off of the slave trade.  He used his money to create a security force that was sold to those with valuable things to protect.

He used his security force to steal secrets and weak points in defenses from his clients, and sold that information to the highest bidder.  Later on he got deeply involved with trafficking goods, and could only stand to gain a safe haven if he was one of the “Heroes” that helped free Tormar from their torment.  He was seeking a trading hub with no rules.

At the end of the briefing a man walked in and shook hands with Aph.  Aph greeted him warmly, but there seemed to be tension at the mention of something..Mako could not hear what.

He grabbed up his gear, along with his fellow Dragoons, and they made their way to the shuttle bay.  All of the other troops were already loaded and Mako decided that the were waiting on DD.

He pulled his earphones from his head and walked into the shuttle, head held high.

He had long ago learned that the best way to enter an uncomfortable situation was to appear confident, yet approachable, if the approach was done right.  He nodded at most of the other troops aboard as he passed them.  Looking down the isle there was a group of soldiers talking excitedly.  They were not all human, which struck Mako as a little bit odd, but Mako decided that they must be Eclipse, as all of the other troopers sat quietly with gloomy looks on their faces.

A strange looking creature (to Mako),  looked up and said:

“Well, if it isn’t the Dark Dragoons!  I am Wicket.  Glad to meet you.”

“Mako Sanguin.  You too.”  He wasn’t sure if  Wicket’s species customarily shook hands, or claws, or whatever, so he kind of smiled and looked around at the other members of Eclipse.

He saw an empty set of seats behind the squad and moved to sit there.  He tried to look friendlier than he felt as he moved past this strange bunch.

He had heard that they were good, but it must have slipped past him that they were largely non-humanoid.

Mako lit a lung blaster, and shortly afterwards the protocol droid droid shuffled by and asked him to put it out on threat of being forced to extinguish the blaze himself “for the safety of the other passengers.”

Can’t smoke!?!  Mako thought solemnly as he took one more drag and stubbed the stick out on his boot.  This was going to be a long ride, he thought to himself.
Go ahead, laugh.  It's all fun and games until someone puts YOUR eye out.

Orobos walked back up from the bar after his fifth drink and ordered another. You think thats a bit too much sir?

"Nope," Orobos replied sincerely.

"You know if you cause any problems I'll have to ban you for a week or even a month," the barman said slowly and clearly.

"Fine," he said to the barman. He realised he had shouted.

The barman looked at him worriedly.

"Em... maybe I have had a bit too much said Orobos quietly. He walked out of the cantina and back to the barracks. He walked in and grabbed his bag out from under his bunk and looked around. Garyll and Mako where already packing.

He walked over to his locker putting one foot in front of the other. Luckily the stuff he had been drinking wasn't very strong. He grabbed the usual arsenal he carried when on a mission. He looked at his Vibro-axe. It seemed sharp enough he put it in the bag. He stuffed some rations into the bag then closed it. He ticked off various weapons off his mental checklist.

He stood up just to see Mako and Garyll walking out the door. He grabbed his bag and followed them to the briefing room where Aphamos was already waiting.

They spent several minutes there. The target Gabriel sounded dangerous enough, Ex-pirate, smuggler, slave trader. No, this wasn't going to be easy he though to himself, and the guy has probably surrounded himself with hired guns.

His thoughts were interrupted however when they walked around the corner and spotted eclipse.

One of them walked up to Mako and introduced himself as Wicket. Orobos peered at Wicket. He had never seen anything like him before. Though he looked away when he noticed Wicket was staring back at him.

Well at least there are no Rodians in the group, though he looked around just to be sure. He noticed Wicket still staring at him. He reasoned he might be looking for an introduction.

"Em.. Hello, I'm Orobos," he said awkwardly smiling a bit in what he hoped was a friendly way.

Then Garyll had introduced himself to the assembled squad. Wicket smiled, spun around and walked back over to join his squad.

Orobos looked sideways at Mako and Garyll. They did the same.

"They seem a bit over-keen to you guys?" he said. They nodded.

After the round of introductions, they loaded up into the shuttle. Mako tried to smoke, but was forced to stub it out.

"Tough, mate." Gates said kiddingly, lightly tapping him on the shoulder. Mako chuckled, and they waited for the ship to take off. After a while, Gates grew bored. He pulled out a deck of cards and started a game with Mako. Orobis and a couple of the Eclipses joined in. The game had just begun to get good when the pilot told them to strap in unless they wanted to be pasted to the bulkheads.

Gates strapped into his chair, shuffled all of his stuff back into his bag, and replaced his helmet, as much for comfort as for safety.

The shuttle rocketed off, pushing the men back into their seats from the G-forces. Gates made absolutely sure that his DC-15 had its safety 'on' and the same with his E-11. Then he settled back to enjoy the ride.

O.s. The messages I am refering to are messages that were sent before the story Memories of the past... which is a personal I started. Just thought I would let everyone know.

Dax thought he was going to go through the back of the wall. He hadn't figured in time of lift off, after all... he never cared. AT the moment he just wanted to figure out a few things.. hoping to god maybe he could figure out where she had sent it from. Most of the Messages had to do with a secret operation, but he couldn't figure out what.

Damn it, Doc is probably wondering where I am at. It probably wasn't far from the truth, and at the moment he couldn't get close enough o the communications panel. it can wait. He thought, figuring he would get another one in time.

He got up slowly, hoping he wouldn't get thrown back again. And knowing pilots in the past, the chances of him getting thrown back where high.

As he made his way closer to the door he could hear Doc talking over a com, if he would have had his equipment he would have tried to listen in, but he had left it in his bag. And at the moment, he didn't feel like listening in. Whatever doc was talking about though, probably was something he didn't want to hear.

He opened the door as fast as possible, getting a surprised look from everyone in the shuttle, some he didn't even recognize.

“Hey, nice weather back there. Bad seating though... specially for take off.” Doc looked at Dax, almost as if he was out of his mind. Some of the people just snickered. I think that's my que to sit down.

Walking up front felt different, there were new faces which he hadn't saw before. He thought maybe he had a time jump, but knew he couldn't have cause his bags were in the same place.

“Hi, I am Mako Sanguin. Dark Dragoons.” A man said, almost chipper. He was sitting in the seat next to Blackout's, which was now filled with all of mako's stuff. Another thing that had struck him was the 'Dark Dragoons' He had heard of the squad before, but never had even seen them. He als heard that they hadn't been as active due to a 'curse”

“Dax Tyro, ummm, I am from this seat. And eclipse squad.” Dax's irritation was audible, but he didn't care, he just wanted to sit.

“I am truly sorry.” A grin spread across mako's face as he moved his stuff, which for a recon mission was very full.

“Thank you.” Dax sat down fast, just incase someone else decided to drop there junk.

“So, you ready?” Mako asked. Dax took it as small talk, which he didn't mind, he was actually kinda bored.

“Yea, I guess.” Dax tried to blurt out the first thing in his mind.

“That's good, always good to be ready.” Mako said
“Your right, so what weapons you got?”

“nothing much, just a couple of pistols.”

“Cool”

“DAX!!. wanna play some cards?” A familiar voice called. Dax turned with lightning speed to see Wicket waving cards in his hand. Saph was sitting right next to him. couldn't have been better timing. He looked over at mako, who was fiddling with his gun.”It was nice talking to you.”

“Same.” Mako grinned, going back to what he was doing.

Dax hadn't lied it was nice talking to him, but at the moment he needed something more to do than sit.

Mako felt more comfortable now that some of the introdutions were out of the way.  HE was checking his DC-15s blaster pistol and thinking to himself about Eclipse squad.

He plugged his earphones in to a level where he could still overhear what was being said, but could tune it out if he wished.

The man sitting next to him...Dax, he had said his name was... Dax was at least responsive.  He thought Wicket may be a bit overanxious, but still seemed the most open to communication in this bunch.  There were a few others in Eclipse who responded with empty looks if they even gave him that much.

Mako nodded at Doc when he walked down the aisle.  He had not yet introduced himself, but the man looked to busy to care about a new face at this particular moment.  He seemed to have a lot on his mind.  Mako hoped that it wasn't too much.

Mako had heard about the Dark Dragoons curse.  He had experienced a bit of the inactivity himself.  Even though he had been on the squad almost two months now, and had a few other things going for him, this was his first mission with his squad.

He hoped that it wouldn't be too much for them.  He knew that a team is formed through close calls and time spent together, and other than the Orienteuring trip with Gates that had provided their mission target, Mako had not seen much of either of those things with DD.

As he sat quietly listening to his C3POD, he heard Dax and Wicket making smalltalk as they dealt cards.  He waited until he thought Dax was going to glance up and he pulled one of his earphones out.

He thought that playing cards with the other squad members who had been nice to him so far may open up the rest, or at least help him build ties with them, but he thought it may be forward to ask.

He put his pistol away and decided to wait a few minutes.  Looking over at Gates and Orobos, he decided that they were likely just as uncomfortable as he was.  He remembered that he had broght them gifts, and so he shuffled through his bag for a minute and pulled them out.

He said to his fellow Squadmates:

"I know that you guys have probably heard of the curse of DD, but I appreciate you guys making it a point to come along without question.  I brought you both something to do."

Mako handed them each a shiny new gamedroid that he had picked up in the Imperial Center Store.  He knew that it wasn't much, but for a non-smoking 36 hour flight he thought that it may kill some dead time.

The two grabbed their presents appreciatively and started messing around with them.

Mako seemed to be getting the hang of the VE, but he hoped that this mission went well, and that everyone was able to keep up with the demands of working with another squad on their first mission together.
Go ahead, laugh.  It's all fun and games until someone puts YOUR eye out.

Orobos took the gift in which Mako handed him. It as a game droid. Once he thanked Mako he sat back fiddling with the controls.

He was constantly asking Garyll which button did what. The problem was the game seemed designed for human sized creature. His fingers were just too big, but he played it anyway.

After a while he put the device away in one of the smaller pockets of his bag. He looked around. Most Eclipse members where playing cards. He looked over at Garyll who still had the gamedroid out and then over at Mako who had his C3Pod and was listening to music.

He rummaged around in his bag a bit and brought out his E11. He looked at it a bit made sure the safety was on and put it back. He did this for a while with his other weapons.

After doing this for a couple of minutes he zipped up his bag and looked around.

"Was this flight ever going to end?" he thought to himself as he looked around for something else to do.

Mako was still listening to music and watching the game. Orobos started to watch the game.

After a while he started to slip in and out of consciousness. He was still watching the card game but something strange seemed to be happening.

They seemed to be skipping some key parts in the game. He was about to say something when he realised it's because he kept drifting off. He shook himself and sat up.

He looked around the room for any kind of clock. He sighed. Still about 10 hours to go. He settled back and decided he might need the bit of sleep after all.

Saph was one of the last ones to actually get on the shuttle. Securing her duffle in it's proper place she latched it tight so it wouldn't fall off in the flight over there. Not that she was paranoid but it was a a bad thing to have weapons fall off and rattle lose on the floor.

I hate these long flights...

The Twelik thought to herself, pushing past her squad and glancing over at the un-familiar faces that had joined. Of course she new what group they  were but it mattered little to her at the moment. Her lekku twitched with what appaeard to be unreadable as her silver eyes flickered over them for a moment more before she took  a seat.

It wasn't long as she setteled comfertably when she noticed someone runing up the ramp as it closed. The person in question was their newest Squad member into Eclipse.

Xenos I think it was

She thought for a moment as the  kid about stumbled up and tossed his pack on the shelf.

"Hey, Secure your gear better..." Saph leaned over and snapped.  The rest of the Squad rumbled a laughter and muttered a few words relating to fresh meat from the grinder.

"Oh.. ah.. Sorry.." Xenos replied and went back to tightening his  duffle down.

Saph shook her head and looked over to her right and saw Dax. The Echani felt her eyes on him and looked over, giving her a questionable smile. Saphira, gave him a lift on her lips to forma smile and was about to say something when her head snapped up to a whomping sound.

"Hey.. let go!" Xenos was tackled into a hug by Wicket and the newbie looked to be in shock.

Well.. isn;t this intresting

Wicket had dropped his cards and left the game to tackle the newbie.

"Yo, Wicket.. let him breath man.. He's not Doc!" Came Dax's voice in amusement.

SHe arched her eyebrow as a few chuckles from random members came up. To her left Saph felt the approacj of Alater. The lizard  was giving an odd look as she gave the predator a smile before looking back over at them. Wicket let go of Xenos who looked liek he was in outright shock.

"You  seem to like making friends rather quickly WIcket.." Saph replied. The Sullestion smiled.

"Heck ya I do.." He turned his head back to regard Xenos. "You can sit next to me on the the way over."

Xenos looked over at the new faces. Resting on Alaters, as if asking for help. Saph couldnt help but let out a chuckle as she felt Alaters clawed hand touch her shoulder and then pull away.

"You humans need to deal with this on your own." Alater rumbled before looking at Saph. Their eyes ment and then he turned and went back up to the front of the ship. Apparantly satisfied that no one destroyed anything yet.

More so to let DOc know that Wicket found a new pal..

Saph thought before lookinng again to Dax. She smiled and nodded for  him to come over to her. The whole Jersh and Dax thing was hopefully over as it seemed the man was on indefinat leave for now.

Xenos having just caught his shuttle but what seamed to be to behind according to everyone else. Feeling a bit jittery he had a habit of wanting to move faster then sometimes his body could allow and there for tripping.

He secured his gear tightly with tight buckles and belts that he listened ripple as they were tightened to constrict his kit. He had kept his armor on for the most part aside from his helmet which blanking stared back to the young face of the new recruit Xenos.

The annoyance of the Sullustan. As he turned to an embrace of something that he found less a less respect for. Xenos glared at the man astonished on how an Imperial Soldier as such was so gracious, so open. Something he never say coming and not from his soldiers.

Trying to push him off of him the rest of the squad members told this Sullustan seemingly named Wicket, a very appropriate name for a man as such composition as a lonely house wife. Finding he was not looking for “friends”, and he cared little of names at this point he was only here to serve. He was expendable after all and so were the men and women that sat with him, that mocked him and said the words of “fresh meat” though he was not fresh at killing another just fresh in his new white polished armor.

Having a straight face with a dark impression smeared across his face he sat and buckled himself in. He put his head back his armoured up biceps crossing each other over as he sat with his legs spread in a relaxed position. He deliberated the rest of the squad members. Seeing what made them tick without even talking to them.

This Wicket fellow seamed to be the overly eccentric one that he had already suffered creditability for seeing a man that would hug another on the time of departure for a mission was one not likely to shoot another man that same day, or next day seeing this traverse would be over extended.

Dax, one who seamed to make the smart comments was not much said about yet he seemingly had some sort of trust for him and would stay close to one if said being got into trouble.

Saphira, a twi’lek that seamed to have a upper-class sort of feel to herself and a sort of snappy attitude was no looked down upon, hell no one was but himself at this moment, she seamed to have control and would feel some sort of tension between her no doubt yet he hoped that through time she would see more of him then what he was presenting.

He had yet to take sight of the leader of the squad the Sergeant Major yet he had yet to know most people’s names let alone rank.

He stood stiff as stone as if the time had frozen and those aboard had locked into two confronting forces of stares and dirty looks. Xenos stayed away from eye contact but those who did lock eyes with him as the lightening bolt zapped across each other’s eyes he did not look away. But what seamed to be a half opened eyes glance. A smirk pulled at one side of his mouth as if he was a puppet on strings.

His smirk was playful almost and his realization of his respect level from any of the members was little, one feat he would prove wrong. As his white armor was bear, and he had no metals to show, his experience would show through and raise him hopefully over his time in this group of dispositions.

His time is GOSS and his training, his schooling, and his life that seamed to despise him as he lived through his worst times of his life, but little was seen as the time in the future with the Empire as bad, it was a privilege to bear the symbol of the Imperials. And he would show that he disserved to bear it.

A shady look passed over him almost, his crooked smile mirroring back at what were the jeering squad members. Time was irrelevant now, and it was that irrelevancy that would be to that of his demise or his succession.

Dax let his reflexes kick in, he tried to grab as many cards as he could, they were moving in slow motion to him… almost. normal old wicket. He thought to himself as he got up and walked passed the duo that almost seemed like they had been reunited from a long lost past. Dax knew what that was like all to well. Why do I get the dumb dreams?

Though Blackout knew they were more like visions, but they still were in the form of dreams which at the moment wasn’t that bad, after all it was sometimes cool know what was about to happen, it was easier to save people.

He made his way up to the front of the shuttle to get his gear, he needed something to do, and it looked like wicket wasn’t going to be playing any more cards anytime soon.

He dared quickly to look over where saph was siting, she gave him a smile back. After all that had happened on the last mission, this time he knew something was going to be different about this one, specially with Jersh missing.

Dax weaved through the various people who were standing up to get his way to where saph was sit. She had motioned him over and he thought it couldn’t hurt to see what she had to say, or maybe she just wanted company after all she was sitting alone, he had hoped she just wanted to talk.

“Hey.” Blackout muttered, unintentionally, but he still had muttered it out. Which wasn’t far from being what he wanted to say.

“Hey sorry about the hall way, I was being pressed upon… if you want to call it that.” She said, a small grin starting, something rare even for Saph.

“It’s alright, I know.” Dax felt more comfortable with the passing seconds, he found himself sitting next to her now, his senses on high alert just in case something might happen, considering how many events where going on in the past few minutes.

Time was starting to pass slower every second, Dax or saph hadn't said anything for almost two standard minutes. Saph was starting to look agitated; Dax was starting to get nervous. Come on you moron, think. He hadn’t been good at striking conversations, yet he was trying to think of one now, and at the moment he wasn’t having luck.

“So after this mission is over, want to get a couple of drinks.” you idiot, great talk future tense, and the mission hasn’t officially started. Dax was always fighting with his dumb side, he could at times be smart and instantly think of something to say, but considering the conditions.

“That’d be nice.” Saph said. All of a sudden dax noticed she was moving closer to him. He didn’t mind.

well your not a total idiot.,/I> Dax said a small laugh rising in his head.

Moments started to pass again, and nothing was being said… finO kallly though Saph spoke up.

Orobos stood stretching a bit. The seat and position he had slept in left a creek in his neck and he was rubbing it furiously. He looked around.

His squad-mates were talking to one another. He looked over at Ecipse who seemed to have separated themselves from the new faces. They had seated themselves away from himself Mako and Garyll and, or at least what he though was, a new recruit who was sitting next to Wicket. He was looking up at Orobos in his good natured way swinging his legs on the seat.

"Nice sleep?" he asked as Orobos looked down at him.

"Aahhmmm... yes," he murmured mid yawn.

He had gotten used to his constant smiling and peace-making efforts over the last couple of hours. He did do a lot of it after all. Orobos sat back down.

The recruit seemed to be studying his squad-mates. "Not the usual nervous, eager recruit behaviour," he thought to himself as he sat back. He looked over at the rest of Eclipse squad. They were laughing and throwing glance over at the new recruit.

He got u and moved up a seat to join Mako and Garyll. They both nodded at him as he sat down.

"Hey... we were just talking about what will be happeneing when we land," Garyll said to fill him in.

"I was thinking that myself just before we left," he replied.

"They seem good to me, just a bit... you know?" Mako said hesitantly looking over at the group of Eclipse members.

"Strange?" Garyll put in helpfully.

"Maybe just keep seperate for a while before fully interact with them," Orobos suggested. "I know your probably thinking that you havn't even been in combat with me so you can't exactly trust me."

They both smiled nervously at this and nodded.

"Yeah we're the minority here," said Garyll.

"We should stick together on this one," Mako said nodding.

"Agreed," said Orobos standing, "I'm going to get my stuff ready we'll be landing soon enough."
Time is a Drug. Too much of it will kill you.

Saphira could tell that Dax was edgy on being near to her. Yet like her he couldn't stay away. Saphira knew that Jersh wasn't around and there was talk that he was probably going to leave the VE.  Part of her wasn't happy with the aspect of it all but at the same time the man was growing distant from everyone. Including her.

Face it. He's going to just walk away. You have Dax here in front of you. DOn't be a fool

Naturally though, there was still the love triangle withen the squad. Saph had one other that was  in her life and  that was all she needed to know for now.  So she had agreed to his nervous ranter of  wanting to go out for a few drinks afterword.

"Don't worry about Jersh." She added. Dax looked up to her for a moment as she  reached over and touched his hand for only a moment.

"I wasn't worrying.." He replied.

"Yes you were.. and don't worry.. I think I have had it with him anyway. He needs to grow up more and for all that I can't deal with it." She replied grufly.

Her head snapped p to look over at Xenos who now seemed to have a cool attitude over what had just happened. He looked liek he was studying the squad. Saph let a low growl loose from her throat.

"Hey... Xenos.. Park it.. We arn't a museum display!" She growled. Xenos  jumped and looked over at her with a challeneg in his eyes.

Wicket who returned to his card games and knew the look  that Saph was giving swallowed and looked over at the newbie.

"Id listen. Shes not just a  Sergeant ya know.. Saph has no problem tearing out a persons heart  and eating it." The sulleston chipped in with a shudder. He remembered what she was capable of and more.

Xenos looked over at her with slighty open eyes. As if he didnt' believe it.

"Trust me.. Saphs not one you wanna piss off..Even DOc can't control her.. the amout of EMI shes been given and still outranks me.." Dax added witha  grin.

Mako welcomed the arrival of the now conscious Orobos.

He felt a little bothered that he hadn't had the foresight to think of Orobos' large Whiphid hands causing problems with a device made for humans, but he hoped that the large trooper understood the intent was there.

Mako wasn't sure how Eclipse was going to interact with the 'Goons.  They had been standoffish at best, except for Wicket.  THey were even being a bit hard on Xenos, their own trooper, though he was new to the squad.

Mako watched as Dax went over to talk to the red Twi'Lek.  He wondered how twisted this squad was with the intertwining of its relationships.  They all seemed to have a negaitive mood, some a bit meloncholy, ohers inward, or outwardly agitated.

Mako was glad that he had the good natured Gates and very tolerant Orobos on board with him.  He tried to think of a way to get open the other squad up a bit.

He messaged Wicket on his datapad with the following:

"I think someone farted."

He heard a giggle a few seconds later and got a message back that read:

"You smealt it, you dealt it."

That went well, he thought.  Then he noticed something missing from the atmosphere.

He saw that Dax and Saph were being really quiet.  He was not listening to them, but he did notice the absence of the hum of their voices.  THey looked like they were being a bit too serious.

Mako thought for a second....

He got up and dug into his bag for a bit.  He remembered that the ICS was having a sale on boxer shorts and he had bought 15 pair.  8 of them were still in the packages.  He dug these out and threw a pack to Wicket.  He then tossed a few toward Dax and Saph.

"I have gifts!" Mako said.

He went to toss a pair at Alater, hesitated, and then gently underhanded them close to the menacing looking creature. Then he tossed a pair to Xenos.

He would hand Doc a pair when he saw him, but decided to stop for a while in response to the odd looks that he was getting from Eclipse.

"Just trying to make friends." He said.  " I at least have to trust you to give me a proper burial, right?"
Go ahead, laugh.  It's all fun and games until someone puts YOUR eye out.

The group from Dark Dragoons was a little green. Alater had originally been placed in the Dark Dragoons squad, but had been changed out. He only really knew Orobos, who he know outranked anyway. They still carried that old curse, trudging along slower than any other squad. You had to give them credit though, the newbies were trying.

As for his own fresh meat, the man was in no way under his expectations of a stormtrooper. He was tall, well muscled, and kept well enough to himself. Wicket, as always, had managed to make a muck of the trip and disturb the greeny with one of his infamous hugs. Alater had chuckled at that, leeting the recruit get a feel for what it was like to be a member of possibly the most prestigous and best squads in the Corps.

During the trip Alater kept to himself as usual. Ever since he had gone through some of the most intense training of his life, he had changed. Life had taught him not to get attached, that a single rocket or shell could rip those you care about away from you in a single instant. As he had fired those guns, he hadn't been thinking of what could happen to himself. Though being the highly trained killing machine he was, it was his duty to protect his squad and provide for them the covering fire they needed, it didn't meen he would always be there.

What to do though, about Doc and Saph. Doc was his Brother, and ment more to him than any living being ever had except maybe his Hatch Mate. Saph...well she was just something else all together. Together they formed the only people that got close to him, snuck up on him with his back turned, and stole something from him. Something he had always tried his best to keep locked away and under control. They understood, accepted, and lived with who and what he was, but was that ever enough? Could he just let them go? Maybe.

His gear was strapped right behind him as usual. For this trip he had brought a little of everything. His favorite sniper, a good ol' rocket launcher, and a few other nasty tricks for the enemy. If anybody was going to try and pull something with his squad it was going to take a lot to take him down. Never without a fight. As the shuttle began its descent Alater waited for Doc to come out and give whatever prebriefing he was bound to have prepared.

As a package was tossed to Saph she caught it. Eyeing Mako with a dark eye before she pulled loose the strap to peer inside. A few silent heartbeats before she could even say anything. The mal even had gotten her the right size. Before she could even reply, Dax grabbed her wrists and then wickets voice piped up.

"YAY! Just my size too!" The Sulleston broke the dead silence with his cheerfull nature. Heads poped up as he flung the box across the room. It clattered to the floor next to Xenos who stared at him with a vacent expression. Wicket held up the pair of boxers before placing them on his head like a hat.

Saphira couldn't help but crack a smile at that display. Others started to laugh too. Saph looked over at Mako.  A look that said everythign and then nothing before she placed the box down on to her right side.

"What.. don't you like it?" Mako asked, rolling his right shoulder foward.

"Its usefull.. so yes.. I just don't want to know how you got my size.." She grumbled. Dax shot his head over and started to look  territorial. Giving the look to Mako that saph couldn't see. The saying to back off ' She's  Mine '.

Mako shrugged, looking aat Dax questionably. Saph snapped her head back but Dax just gave her a smile. Not wanting to know what passed between them she sighed and leaned back against the seat.

I don't think I want to even know

Saph thought to herself.

"you'd do better at handing Saph a  vibroblade as a gift verses clothes."  Dax added. Knowign how well the female liked to handel the cool steel. The thought made him smile. Knowing that she was perhaps more comfertable with him then anyone else that he could think of.

"Really now?" Mako asked. Looking back at the female. He then noted that she was the only female in this sqaud. At least for the time being.

"Don't push it.." Saph growled.

Gates chuckled at his friend's jovial attitude. Gotta break the ice somehow, and it was a good thing that Mako was along. Those Eclipse guys were certainly tight-knit, and they were tough on even their own newbies. Not that he could blame them. The new man was like a stone, stoic even for a stormtrooper. He was actually quite different from the rest of his squadmates - several weren't even human. While that was incredibly rare amongst the Old Empire, it was somewhat common here. Why deny a non-human rights to enter the armed forces when they could do better?

He punched Mako on the shoulder. "They seem to like their gifts. And thanks for the Game Droid."

They continued their conversation for a while. "hope we find some of those mercenary scum to put out of their misery," Gates remarked.

Mako only nodded. He was almost certainly thinking about putting a few rounds through their skulls, perhaps some particular person's head.

They still had some time left, so Gates, with a few last remarks to Mako and Orobos, leaned back against the bulkhead and drifted off.

I shouldn't have done that. Dax thought, knowing his last action towards Mako wasn't appropriate, but it didn't matter; life was going smoothly right at the moment. That was until he opened the present.. a pair of imperial boxers.

“Uhhh, Mako...” Dax stuttered, looking at saph who was grinning, trying not to laugh. It was kinda funny though, in some respects.

“Yes?”

“Thanks, I hope these were dry cleaned.” Blackout said, he didn't get his answer before Mako walked away. they weren't dry cleaned were they... at the moment though. He could care less.

Saph was looking out the window next to her seat. For being a blue streak that seemed infinite, it was kinda nice.

“You okay?” Dax asked, trying to spark up a conversation. Never was good at this stuff. he beat himself up over it for a long time, not knowing why, maybe it was because of his social life back on Naboo, but that was all dissipating.

“I'm fine... just a little tired.” she said. Her hand resting on his. All of a sudden Dax was back in that bar, the night before there last mission.

“are you sure?” Dax was trying to dig deeper but he knew saph, she wouldn't budge unless she was backed into a corner with a knife up against her throat. Course that rarely happened, even Dax had trouble fighting her a while back. The week Saph had first come.

Saph nodded her head yes. Blackout didn't feel the need to further the subject, instead though he was interrupted by Wikcet, who obviously wanted to play some more cards.

“Hey, Blackie, want to finish?” He held up the cards. If it wasn't one thing with wicket it was another. Dax didn't complain though, wicket was one of the few he had known since he had joined. He actually liked the little sullustan.

“Just a second.” Dax turned and faced Saph. She was still staring out the window. Dax looked at her, she was softly breathing, almost a silent speech. Thought rushed through his mind. And before he could say them all the Blue streak had ended.

She was starign out at nothing. Her eyes almost a blank stare when she felt Dax's eyes not leaving her. The guys calling him back over to his game as she turned to look at him.

"You don't have to go back to the game.." SHe started to say.

"Why's that?" Dax asked, scooting a little closer. Saph then tensed at his sudden movments and he stopped. Not wanting to push her or ehd up having his head on backwards.

"I.. " she started, but couldn't figure out the words to say. Being nice was so not her in front of the others. "Well.. Wicket cheats at cards..." She said instead.

"I heard that.. and I don't cheat.. I have the touch.." Came the Sullestons reply. Dax grinned and rolled his eyes as Saph seemed to ignore that comment.

He didn't believe for a second that she met that. More so that he hoped she wanted him near her for now. It was hard as things were anyways.

"You mean something else.." He started and clamped his mouth shut.Idiot.. way to go being smooth.. Saphira tilted her head slighty to the left. Giving him a blank expression that didn't give him any relief. Instead he started to back away slowly as if from a predatore that hadn't spotted him. Instead her right hand shot out and garabbed his left wrist. Hiddenbehind the  box that held his gift. The movement subtle but it was enough.

"Stay..please?" She strained the words out. barly above a whisper so ony he could hear them.

"Hey.. you joining back in or not?" Chipped Wicket back again.

Gates looked up  over at the pair with a questionable look. He wasn't to sure what to make of them and noted the way the female was moving that she was one to watch out for.

"You two alright?" He asked?

Dax stared at Gates who was staring at both of them. He had the look as if he was wondering what was going on. He eventually hid back behind that seat, which wasn't that high to begin with.

Dax looked back at saph who had both his hands locked up, he couldn't go anywhere, but it didn't matter, he really didn't want to at this point and time. He still was a little confused, he knew what she was going to say, but she hadn't. He was trying to think of something to say, but he hadn't. “Wicket, go this round without me.

Saphira grinned. She still hadn't released his arms, but it wasn't a matter of life and death he didn't care at this point, he actually had hoped she wanted him to stay.

“What is it Saph?” Dax asked, trying to get her to talk. Again the thought of the only way to get her to talk was coming back. Course, he would never do it.

“I...” She was stuttering again. She let her head drop low, and Dax could feel her hand going cold. Even though they still felt a little warmth in them.

Dax didn't know what to say beyond that, he didn't want to push her... but he knew exactly what she was going to say. He got his right hand free and brought it up to her cheek. He could feel the warmth returning to her body. Now there was only one more thing to do...

o.s kinda short to move the story along.

Xenos chuckling to himself on Saph’s empty death threats already felt the tension between her, and seeing such a women would not be to afraid to shoot him in the back of the head in combat he didn’t press on. Seeing the whole deal would be one epidemic after another he just saw it as silly banter.

Watching a man named “Mako?” start to speak out to them throwing gifts of a pleasant surprise of boxers, something that he was no running short of and wouldn’t trust to wear from anyone handing them out on this flying bus. He watched the boxers tossed to him into the air and land short bundled up on the floor at his feet. They seamed to look up at him telling him a message to pick them up and keep them as an endowment of appreciation.

He kept a straight face half of his face hidden in shadow, as it had been the whole ride. Turning the slightest into the light scares screamed across the right side of his face almost reaching to the corner of his eye as if a the claw of some beast had ruined his face marking him a dead man.

Memories flashed to the burning house. Fire adjacent him… His lungs suffocating with a dark aroma of smoky perfume as the fire flared and chortled and cracked in his eyes. Darkness protruding forth from the room as his fait fell that day and his heart was licked by the fire into ash.

He blinked twice noticing closeness between Saph and Dax. Looking away he could not help but frown. He seamed to be the most distant of the group.

Mako had noticed the odd way at which everyone took his gift, though Saph's acceptance of it had bee filled with insinuation.  Mako thought that this was mainly to get the attention of Dax, and so he tried his best to look flattered, yet stay the hell out of their affairs.

When he saw Gates turn around and asked concernedly about what they were doing, he decided that this was not the right direction for this situation to be going.

Mako stood up and announced to everyone that the Imperial Boxer Shorts were all brand new, but were also what he had on hand, short notice and all.

"Get some rest before we land Gates." Mako said suggestively.  "I will play that round of cards with you Wicket, if you will have me as an opponent."

"I don't see you sitting down yet Trooper." Wicket said excitedly.

Mako had overheard the comment about Wicket cheating, but honestly cared little as he was primarily trying to get comfortable with the other squad.

"Wan't to put some credits on it?" Wicket asked slickly.

"Let's see how the first few gmes go." Mako said cautiously.

Gates nodded off to sleep and Dax glanced over appreciatively at Mako when he got the spare second.  Mako hoped that this gesture showed Dax that Mako was not moving in on his girl.

This may have been obvious to everyone else on teh ship, but being awestruck by a beautiful Twi'Lek was similar to staring unprepared into the barrel of a blaster, you couldn't think and any little thing to ruin everything you had going for you.

Mako wondered about how thick it would be at the moment they landed.  Would they even land, or just use drop insertion?

He picked up his hand as Wicket dealt the cards.  Oddly he only had a few good cards, and as he looked accross the table at his dealer, Wicket smiled sinisterly at his cards until he felt Mako's eyes on him.

Mako intentionally laid a bad card, hoping to give some type of surprise to the Sullistan toward teh end of the game.
Go ahead, laugh.  It's all fun and games until someone puts YOUR eye out.

Orobos sat back and watched the next few events with interest. ako threw out boxes with boxers in them. Then the Twi'lek commented on them being her size. When she said that the human next to her gave Mako a cold stare with a clear message in it.

At that Orobos buried his face in his hands and laughed. He was nearly crying when he stopped.

"Take it easy there big fella" Garyll said looking at him with an eyebrow raised.

Orobos breathed out long and slow and grinned. He hadn't laughed in a while with all the seriousness and tension and it was just good to let it all out.

A few Eclipse members were looking at him concern clearly on their faces as though they feared for his mental health. He didn't care though.

He looked over at Wicket who was shuffling. He was even looking at him funny.

"What was that?" he asked,

"It was nothing.. nothing,"

"No tell me. What were you laughing at?"

"No.. it doesn't matter.

Wicket turned back to the card game looking a little disappointed but i wasn't long before he was smiling at everyone again.

Orobos moved back to his seat and watched the continued card game for a while. He felt the shuttle jerk a bit and tilt forward.

"Looks like we're coming in to land," he thought to himself as he went through his bag for about the twelfth time that trip.
Time is a Drug. Too much of it will kill you.
