mIRC Connection error (me or server?)

whenever I try to connect I get this message

Connect retry #1 irc.vastempire.com (6667) (dns pool)

I looked on the mIRC site and they had virtually no FAQ on what happens if you cant connect. So that makes me wonder is it the server or is it the school wireless that Im on? and its not the signal strength believe me
