  Nazgul Character Development - Downtime

Tomas made his way through the corridors with care and purpose on his way to his quarters. The squadron has been back aboard the Atrus for many days since their escape from the planet of Misoo. There had been an extensive debriefing upon their arrival back aboard the Naval flagship in hopes that intelligence could gather some helpful information on the people behind the attack, as well as how they managed to succeed. As far as Tomas had heard there had been a few leads discovered as a result, though the rumours the young Flight Lead had caught word of had indicated that the majority had led to dead ends, some even raising more questions overall than they were able to answer.

Tomas sighed. Despite the initial congratulatory messages for their work planetside, a fair portion of their debriefing had involved the squadron's decision and success at destroying the planet's southern temple. The various leaders of the unit had been questioned the hardest and even now, many days after the fact Tomas felt tired just from thinking about it. He couldn't remember how many times he had to answer the same questions over and over. Whose orders were you following when you to carried out such a dangerous mission? Why did you not raise concerns? Did you realize you consequences you could face for stealing goods that belong to the Vast Empire? They were easy questions all in all, and in hindsight he was sure he'd have taken on the mission if faced with the same situation again...well, perhaps not if it meant another such battery by Intel. There had been a brief point in time where it actually seemed Trevor would be court marshaled for his actions, but it had since passed. Now, as a result of the physical strain the groundwork had put on the members of the squadron, Nazgul had been given an extended leave from duty in order to recover.

Some of the pilots had chosen to go on brief vacations, but Tomas had been content to stay in friendly space. Rather than sightseeing, and other such “adventures” he had chosen to instead remain on Abrae,  furthering his knowledge in fighter piloting as well as various combat tactics. In addition, he had been asked to give a couple presentations to a batch of new recruits on some of the basic maneuvers involved in the business. Rumours of a large scale operation had been circling here and there around the base, though there was no indication as to any further details. If the the reuniting of the squadron aboard the Atrus was any indication, they had something on the docket. Given the high possibility of  compromised agents of the Vast Empire on Misoo, the fact that rumours concerning campaign plans were so widely present had Tomas feeling quite uneasy. As he finally reached his assigned quarters, he let out another short sigh and entered.

He didn't have much to do here, as he was planning to meet up with the rest of the squadron in the lounge...or most of them from what he could tell. Putting away some items he had been carrying, he finished up a message he had been writing to Laurel earlier before sending it on its way. They had been communicating off and on during his time off, though she experienced intermittent periods of busyness as the people of Misoo attempted to restore order to their planet. A quick change of shirts and he was on his way back down the corridor, though this time the walk wouldn't be quite so long. Turning a corner, Tomas nearly collided with a woman dressed in her full uniform.

“I'm so sorry,” she said. Tomas noticed that she quickly avoided his eye contact. “I am new on board and I was just attempting to find my quarters, with little luck I'm afraid.” Tomas caught a glimpse of a datapad in her one hand, no doubt holding the necessary information.

“May  I see?” he gestured in its direction. She was hesitant, but eventually handed it over. “Nazgul Squadron, eh? The name's Tomas, leader of flight three.” He stated, holding out his hand.

“Lamel Evas....sir.” Tomas proceeded to give her the directions, and stopped her as she turned to go. “Yes?”

“If you'd like to meet the rest of the squadron, we'll be down in the lounge...feel free to join us once you get settled in.”

“Oh, thanks,” and with that she turned and continued down the corridor.

Upon entering the lounge Tomas found a number of Nazgul to already be present, a few of whom he had not seen since the debriefing period. He also noticed another pilot sitting off to the side that he did not recognize, at least not right away. The young man seemed to be quietly watching the others...guaging them, having apparently been their quite a while given the number of beverage glasses in front of him. As Tomas greeted the others he slowly realized where he had seen the man before. He had been in the audience for one of the presentations Tomas had given, though his name was currently elusive...

OOC:
Alright guys, I've written in Lamel and Reno...they are free to take their characters where they wish. Have some fun. The rest of you, too...perhaps tell some stories of your adventures during your time off. We have an Army/Navy story coming up and I think we should be at least a little active before that happens.

Reno had been sitting in the lounge for over an hour. He remembered  his time before this... It was almost awkward to be old enough and able to just sit back and not take any orders or be disciplined. It was mostly boring, just waiting for everyone to arrive. He liked to be one of the first ones to places, just so he know what happens, what people are planning.

"I don't want to just sit back and think about my past. I'm here in the Vast Empire, and I've got nowhere else to go," he thought to himself, "But I do have a fresh start, so I should get up and greet my squad mates."

Just as Reno pounded back his last glass of ale, his Flight Commander Tomas walked into the lounge, and quickly most of the crew got up to greet him or sat back and said, "Hey." Tomas seemed important, but wasn't vile or demanding. It was a good feeling, not being punished while you work. Reno decided to -collect his energies- and say hello.

"Greetings, um... I don't seem to remember-"
"The name's Reno, your new crewman."
"Yes, that's it. Good to have you aboard. Feel free to socialize with your other team mates, no need for formalities," Tomas said, then turned to talk to the other guys/ girls.

(Hope this isn't too bad, I'll post again if needed.)
I am not real. How can you be talking to something that doesn't exhist.

Skar wandered the hallways of the Atrus, still in a daze. Echoes of Trevor's briefing were still running through his mind, disrupting his thoughts and sense of direction. He cursed as he walked into a dead end again.

You did an amazing job of looking after Flight Two while Darius was out of action

"Crap" Skar muttered, poking his head down yet another hallway he didn't recognise.

It's not strictly allowed, But I couldn't think of a better person for the job

He attempted to smile at a number of people who walked past him, trying not to reveal the fact he was hopelessly lost.

So it's for that reason, I'm promoting you to Flight Leader. Good luck, you'll need it

"Aha!" Skar cried out, once he got close enough to read the label on the next door.

He walked in, trying to look official. The room was filled with navy member's, all casually eating and drinking. The More official member's could be seen sat in a far corner, talking quietly away from everyone else. Skar smiled at Tomas, who he saw stood away from the rest and talking to a man he didn't recognise. Skar cleared his throat.

"Alright, I'm looking for....Crewman Dahn Basai, and Senior Crewman Acrutis Manor!"

Eventually, the stares subsided and the two men Skar wanted appeared in front of him.

"Alright, first of all - Dahn, welcome to Nazgul, I hope you'll like it here" Skar smiled, trying desperately to hide the nerves in his voice.

"Thanks" He replied.

"Anyway, the reason I needed you. You're both aware that your member's of Flight Two?"

They nodded.

"Well, just to introduce myself - I'm Petty Officer Second Class Darkanto, and I'm your flight leader"

Casca had distanced himself from the Squadron since their return to the Atrus.  He would start the day at 0445 and hit the racks at 0930.  A short half hour jog around the ship before a cold shower would wake him up enough to hit the datapads for intence studying.  He had been Petty Officer long enough, and it was time for him to start his flight leadership training.  He had recieved the test results today along with his new rank patch.  Chief Petty Officer, he thought as he stared at his test results on the datapad.  It was 0600 and the rest of the ship was either heading in from their shift or waking up to start theirs.  Casca had his rank patches digi-sewn onto the shoulders of his uniform.  Chief Phennir, he thought.  He could just remember when he was in his first year of the Academy.  As an Element Leader in class, he was authorized the rank of CPO but had to start out as a Senior Crewman.  He worked hours after classes helping the instructors and impressing higher ranking cadets.  When he finnally reached Cadet Chief Petty Officer, he made sure each and every student reffered to him as Chief.  It isn't Major, but it is getting there, he thought as he straitened his uniform and headed out of the barracks for the mess hall.

Casca ordered a large meal, with a salad, two glasses of water, and one Correlian mango fruit juice.  The mess hall was starting to fill up as some familliar faces filled the seats around him.  "Uh oh, you guys.  Casca finnally finished his SAs." Mr. Darkanto said as he set his tray down to Casca's right.

"With distinction, looks like!" Mr. Dagoram said as he sat to Casca's left.

"Major Phennir..." came a voice directly across from Casca.  He nearly spit his juice out as he looked up.

"You?" He said with a ripe hatred for the younger Chief Petty Officer.  Casca would have jumped across the table and mutilated the boy if he were'nt in uniform.  "I thought you were a pirate."

"No, Major, I...am a pilot, like yourself.  I have simply been on personal leave visiting a few planets for my personel enjoyment.  And what have you been doing, old chap.  I heard..."

"Ignore what you heard.  Pirates...cost me my job as Wing Adjutant and now I have to work my way up the ranks.  Not everyone is born an Surface Marshal you know."

"A little ambitious aren't we?  Come now, lets set an example for the younger pilots."

"And you are what? Seventeen now?" Casca asked.

"Twenty."

"On your papers maybe."

"Hold on, Hold on.  You two know each other?"  Mr. Dagoram asked as he watched the pissing match unfold.  The two stopped biccoring as the Warrant Officer stepped in.

"Just...by what we have read about each other.  Casca here graduated 1st in his class at Carida. Was Wing Adjutant for Thrawn's Navy."

"Don't worry Raigen, Casca can be trusted." Mr. Dagoram said.  Raigen and Casca quickly exited the hall from opposite doors.

Atrick felt dazed. He couldn't remember what had happened on the planet and at the debriefing, he hadn't really listened. It didn't bother him that he couldn't remember.

Actually, it's better if I don't remember... he told himself. Especially after what happened last time. Atrick shuddered. The dreams that had haunted him after his first mission had emotionally tramautized him for several weeks afterward.

Walking through the halls of the Atrus he tried to remember where the lounge was aboard the ship.

Should really get my head checked out. Losing my memory... he thought as he finally found the correct hallway and proceeded towards the lounge.

The slight buzz of conversation met his ears as he entered. He looked around, expecting to at least see some of Nazgul, but he couldn't make out any familiar faces in the blur of people. Atrick took an empty seat towards the middle of the room. While he still looked at the mass of people hoping for some friend to jump from the gloom, a waiter droid approached him.

"Correlian Ale." Atrick automatically said and the droid complied, giving him a glass of the liquid then turning off to serve a group of pilots that had just arrived.

Atrick gingerly sipped at the liquid, feeling the burn as it slid down his gullet. He didn't want to think, but to talk with some real people.

"I guess I can just hit the simula..." he said to himself, but was cut off by a voice from the front of the room.

"Alright, I'm looking for....Crewman Dahn Basai, and Senior Crewman Acrutis Manor!"

Intresting. Seems I'm in trouble now. Atrick thought to himself, smiling a little at his personal joke.

As Atrick made his way up front, he saw a man standing at the entrance to the lounge with a Nazgul insignia on his uniform.

Finally! Someone from Nazgul!

As Atrick stood in front of the man, he began speaking to him and another to Atrick's left. Atrick didn't recognize him, so he figured he must be another newbie.

"Alright, first of all - Dahn, welcome to Nazgul, I hope you'll like it here" Skar smiled, seemingly strained.

I was right...

"Thanks" Dahn replied.

"Anyway, the reason I needed you. You're both aware that your member's of Flight Two?"

Atrick nodded.

"Well, just to introduce myself - I'm Petty Officer Second Class Darkanto, and I'm your flight leader."

Atrick looked him over once again then responded.

"I'm Senior Crewman Acrutis Manor or Atrick25, whichever you prefer."

Skar looked him over with a nod then turned to Dahn.

"I'm Crewman Dahn Basai as you've probably guessed." he said sheepishly.

"Well it's good to meet you two. I was hoping to catch you two to see if we could try some flight simulators together, get a feel for each others movements in a fighter. How's that sound?" Skar said.

Atrick nodded eagerly, excited at the chance to do something.

"Well, let's head over to the simulators. Dahn, you up to this?"

"Sure am. I didn't go through basic training for nothing!" Dahn said with a chcukle.

I'm taking Dahn as Nazgul 11, I'm unsure of his real number

To his left, Skar saw the stream of laser bolts and dived underneath it. Off in the distance, he saw another x-wing weaving through debris in hot pursuit of a dark red A-Wing.

"Pull off Nazgul 11, it's too dangerous to follow him through that. Head towards me as if you've disengaged and hope he follows you. Nazgul 10, if he does, be ready to take him down, and for god sake make sure we're out of the way first" Skar called through the radio. A pair of 'roger's soon echoed through.

Skar loved being out in space. His normal shy self all but disappeared, there was no time for him to hesitate. He kept every move sharp and fluid, and every order crisp. And so far it had worked.

"Problem Flight Leader" Dahn's voice crackled through the radio. Skar glanced to his right and saw him just pulling up alongside. "We got two more A-Wings closing in fast on our right"

"Crap. Alright, stick close and follow me. Nazgul 10, your orders stand"

Skar accelerated the x-wing forward before cutting off gently to the right, until he was coming back towards the attackers. As he figured they would, they began the same maneuver, although slightly quicker allowing them to close the gap at a terrifying speed.

"Barrel roll, to the left" Skar shouted, still turning the craft around in a circle. He quickly yanked the controls to the the bottom left and the ship began to spiral away. He caught a glimpse of the A-Wings, moving too quickly to react to the movement, blast straight past them.

"Alright, slow down a little and make sure they stay in front of us. Which one do you want?"

"The one on the right gave me a funny look as he passed, I want him"

"Their windows are blacked out, how the hell did you notice?"

"Dunno"

Skar laughed. "Well go for it. I'll make sure the other one stays out of your way"
