The DJO is the Order, so yes, it is made of Dark Jedi. Sith for the most part are extinct, and the empire utilizes Dark Jedi. Correct me if I'm wrong.
If you read into other DJO info booth posts, there is a clear distinction in that we use Dark Jedi as we can choose our light saber colors, synthetic or organic, where as Sith use Synthetic crystals to produce the red beam. -----------------------

I'm going to correct you Tnepres. 
1) The Dark Jedi Order is the elite division of The Vast Empire. Yes, timeline wise, all trained Force-Sensitive beings have been hunted down to extinction. There may be a few out there in the galaxy that may have survived, but that would be an extremely low number (... like 4 or something).
2) There is no "We only have Sith" or "We only have Grey Jedi" in the DJO. In fact, to my knowledge, the DJO does not have any "Grey Jedi". According to the Star Wars Wiki, a "Grey Jedi" is described as an individual that has either been exiled or has disassociated themselves from the Jedi Order. None of the Dark Jedi in the DJO were part of the Jedi Order, thus we have no Grey Jedi.
3) When people hear the term "Dark Jedi", they immediately think of the term "Sith". The DJO does have these types of individuals, but the Order also has another group of Force users that have been defined in a different manor. I can use myself as an example. I am in the Dark Jedi Order, but I am no Sith. I am a Krath - my "rank" being Krath Prophet. In terms of description, you could say that the Sith use their powers more for battle and destruction or to do what they will with them. The Krath, on the other hand, are more like scribes rather than warriors. Note that both are extremely deadly in combat, the Krath (overall) seem to be of those that have a deeper understanding of the Force because they spend much of their time studying it. Now, these are just simple and general ideas of the difference between Sith and Krath, but the DJO members that hold these titles are their own characters. In other words, a Sith in our DJO could very well be a heavy studier as well.
4) You cannot "choose" the color of your lightsaber. Much of the time the color is random. An example would be Adegan crystals. There really is no telling what the color will be until the lightsaber is assembled and activated. Such crystals (Adegan, etc.) are considered "organic" crystals because they formed naturally. Some Sith (including myself) use a different type of crystal called a Synthetic crystal. These crystals are not organic and are forged by hand. Each crystal is also infused with the being and essence of the individual that has forged it, and it is rumored that the wielder of such a lightsaber may be more efficient in battle. I can double check on this, but I'm pretty sure that's the case from what I've been told. The synthetic crystals are typically red. -----------------------

Ouch...
Well, at least I was somewhat right. I thought Sith and Dark Jedi were completely different things. As in Sith were an actual civilization, with their own droids and people and whatnot until they were almost completely annihilated after a war with the Jedi. -----------------------

The Sith race dissapeared, and the "Sith" as we know it took this title for themselves.
At one point (In Kotor) the Sith actually formed their own empire and attempted to gain control of the galaxy through war with the republic.
At the time of the Knightfall (That name is from Battlegrounds 2 - I like it to describe the destruction of the Jedi order) the Sith were simply the lord and his apprentice, biding their time until they could complete their plan - They gained control of the republic and reformed it into an empire.

Yes, the Sith were previously an ancient civilization/race, but the term "Sith" in regards to our Order generally describes a type of characteristic-path that the character has chosen to walk down. -----------------------

And there are also the rumored "True Sith" which are mentioned in KOTOR and KOTOR II, but we know absolutley nothing about them. I think the idea is that Revan went off to find them after KOTOR. -----------------------

A cannonical exmple: Darth Vader in the movies is called the Dark Lord of the Sith, however, Vader is human, not a member of the Sith race.
Ages ago, Jedi who were exiled from the Jedi Order for dabbling in the Dark Side of the Force stumbled upon the ancient Sith race. The Sith had a religion based around the Dark Side, and these exiled Jedi learned much from them. Though the Sith race eventually became extinct, the cult of Jedi that they trained took the name 'Sith' for themselves and thus we have 'The Dark Lord of the Sith' and the like. -----------------------

Everyones pretty much right so far, the term Sith is often misunderstood. The movies in particular seem to show that anyone can become a sith, when in the real star wars universe (if you can call it that) you cant.
Millions of years before the time of VE the sith were an entirely different race, living far apart from the Jedi. They had powers similar to the force, known as Sith Magic. It wasn't until the Dark Jedi (who had just rebelled against the real jedi, lost and fled the galaxy) found their empire, and through breeding (details escape me a little bit) the force was combined with the Sith Magic to create the Sith we know of today.
Therefore, since the Sith are a race, you cant just become a 'Sith'. You have to be a decendant of the race. Someone who wishes to associate themselves with the Sith is therefore not a sith, but a Dark Jedi.

As would be the case up until about 5,000 BBY, when the Jedi went genocidal on the Sith species. After said genocide, only Naga Sadow and his Massassi warriors remained. They escaped to Yavin IV where Sadow turned the Massassi into Dark Side wielding brutes. What happened to them is not known, it is thought they genetically diffused into the human gene pool. In 4,400 BBY, Freedon Nadd fell (or ascended, if you prefer) to the Dark Side. He was taught by a reawakened Naga Sadow. Mr. Nadd eventually slew Mr. Sadow, effectively ending the Sith as a hereditary organization.
The Sith teachings remained, however, and were passed on to others, who again took the title of Sith. This group spawned many offshoots and went on to what we know today. I could go on about every minute detail of Sith history from the unification of the warring Sith under King Adas (the original Sith'ari), to Darth Krayt's userping of the Imperial throne in 130 ABY, but that would take way too much time.
Of course, there are other Darksiders that aren't Sith, but that almost goes without saying. -----------------------

I don't recall saying that, but in response: the only "trained Jedi" since the events of the Clone Wars that we know of as "famous characters" would be Luke Skywalker. He's probably whining somewhere in the galaxy.
Other than that, there's very few trained Force users remaining in the galaxy. The EU probably has some of their own, but as Tal said above - we're trying to stray away from the EU. -----------------------

I think I read somewhere that to be a "sith" the dark essence of an ancient sith was to be consumed into the body, similar to possession, and would corrupt the person, enhance their dark side abilities, and essentially destroy the former person completely. It is highly possible that my mind just made this whole thing up, but I think it sounds plausible.
Just for my personal amusement, during the VE time line has there been a venture to the Vally of the Jedi and the 'artificial' force people? -----------------------

Actually it more or less was the case with Anakin.

I know that I used that angle with Angel (aka when he became Phoenix), but much like Vader, the former person was not completely destroyed, and eventually reclaimed his mind/soul/body while retaining the power of the Sith.
And to my knowledge, we have never gone to the Valley, nor have we dealt with "artificial" Jedi.
