Kad, this just came to mind, and I don't know if it's been considered before or if it'd really be of any use, but I'll throw it on the table anyway.
Looking at how, in the past, people have been replying to ancient topics either because they're ignoring the last-post date or they just didn't see it, it may be useful to have a "divider" within the ComNet boards. For example, when you click on the Main ComNet, all posts that are less than or equal to 7 days (1 week old) would be at the top (with stickied topics still holding presidence), and then the topics that are over (say) 2 weeks old are dropped into a different section of the Main ComNet. Same goes for topics that are over a month old.
