The following story takes place months ago, after Kal's first mission during his time in the reserves.

Kal sat in the cockpit of the Dark Raven, deep in thought as the transport sped through hyperspace. Kal had never known his parents. About seven years ago, he was found in the slums of Corellia, in the wreckage of a downed transport ship, with the only clue of his identity being a small information datacard card which included his birthdate and basic medical information.

The people who found him were of a speeder racing crew named "The Demonic". They took him in as one of their own, and he eventually because champion for their races. It was through this he had gained his callsign, Demonic.

It was Ironic that he had been given that title. After all, the irises of his eyes were red, and he had pure black hair. His appearance startled most at first. He was a quiet person, always having had been awkward socially.

The speeder crew had sort of became his family. Their deaths haunted him, and even now he had not quite come to peace with it. Still, even he considered them his family, he always wondered who his biological family were. Did they think he was dead? Did he have any brothers or sisters? Were were they? Lack of information and a grand-scale galaxy meant these questions would probably never be answered. Still, he hoped.

And one day hope came. One day he had been examining the datacard which had been found in the crash. He was scanning the data, when he found something. An imprint, almost like an author's mark. An image of a planet, half mechanics, half natural. Excided, he ran the image through public database, and quickly found a resault.

Bel II of Bel system, the cybornetic world. The planet originally had a great crater. Over time the people of Bel II decided to fill this crater, building an artifical earth of technology. The wold had been nicknamed the "Cybornetic world" by people,  due to it's artifical installations.

Maybe he was from Bel II. Even if he wasn't, it was a clue. Maybe it would lead him to his origins. Kal pressed a few keys on the nav-computer, checking to see how close he was to arrival.

Another five minutes or so and I'm there... He thought to himself. Excitement started to fill him. I probably wont find anything but... A chance. He lay back in the pilot's seat. He felt comfortable in space, in a ship. He remembered his first time flying...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kal marveled at the starfighter that sat before him. It was a clone-wars era ARC fighter, beautifully maintained.

"You ready to fly?" Asked Ro, pressing the release to open the forward cockpit. Kal grinned, stepping up the ladder into the pilot's seat. "I'll be flying copilot, just in case. There will be no need for gunners."

When they were ready, Ro started to give Kal instructions. "Alright, use this to start up the engines. These controls are for your pitch, and this is the engine control..." It went on for several minutes, Kal absorbing every word of it.

Rannik Cedann, a friend of Kal's, had convinced Ro to teach him to fly. Ro used to be a stunt flier, skilled in trick piloting. Kal had always been interested in starfighters, ever since he fist saw one on a visit to Rannik's home, up in the higher levels of Coronet.

"Alright, lets take off." Ro said. Kal brought on the engines, and began to lift the ship off the ground. Adrenaline filled him as the fighter sped forward and up, racing off into the atmosphere of Corellia. Suddenly, the built-in comset came alive.

"Unknown fighter, do you read?" Ro picked up the communicator.

"We copy you, over."

"This is New Republic Planetary Police Cruiser 'Verdict'. Your flying unscheduled out of Corellian orbit" Kal felt a bit nervous suddenly as the ship came into view. The Verdict was a Corellian Corvette, which he was told was small for a military capitol ship. But compared to the fighter, it was enormous. He didn't favor run into conflict with it.

"We all want to prosper in today's cruel galaxy." Ro replied. He turned off the voice on the comset for a second. "The NR police are a bit of a pain to schedual with. I find a bribe usually works better.

"Oh, I just found your registration codes. Sorry about that, enjoy your flight." He said. Ro grinned.

If you ever get a starship or fighter of your own, feel free to use that phrase. I set it up for me and a few friends, and I'm paying enough they wont question one more."  They flew past the ship, into open space.

"Alright, now I'm going to show you how to calculate a hyperspacial route. See that little computer to the side? Thats a nav computer. With it and a bit of mathematical training you can use it to find a safe route through the galaxy. Travel through hyperspace is much faster then real space, so in any out of solar system trip you'll end up using it. Makes years of travel become hours." He passed a piece of paper up to Kal. "For now, enter those coordinates. It'll bring us to a nice place I know called Dek-Terra. Its a nice pilot's gathering, great for the "underground" innovation of fighter technology. A good shipyard if you ever need some modifications done that the NR doesn't approve."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dek-Terra.. Thought Kal. Its been a while since I've gone there. Maybe after I've looked around here I can drop by and pay a visit... Suddenly the nav-computer started to beep, and the glowing blur that surrounded the ship faded into stars. He had arrived on Blenjeel. Suddenly his fighter shook. He scrambled through the controls, trying to break off. But it was too late. He was trapped, being pulled in towards a space station, which orbited the planet.

Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all... He thought.

"The way of war is a way of deception. When able, feign inability; when deploying troops, appear not to be. When near, appear far; when far, appear near. Lure with bait; strike with chaos. If the enemy is full, be prepared. If strong, avoid him. If he is angry, disconcert him. If he is weak, stir him to pride. If he is relaxed, harry him; if his men are harmonious, split them. Attack where he is unprepared; appear where you are unexpected. This is victory in warfare; it cannot be divulged in advance. Victory belongs to the side that scores most in the temple calculations before battle. Most spells victory; least spells defeat; none, surer defeat. I see it in this way, and the outcome is apparent." -- Sun Tzu

Continuing my ESC story You'll notice the change of name. A reminder, this is during the brief period I went to the reserves in the beginning of my career, before my return and appointment as flight leader

Kal sat back in the pilot's seat, wracking his mind furiously for an answer to his problem. The Dark Raven was a fast ship - most starfighters didn't reach her speeds, uncommon for a scout ship, and it's hyperdrive was clocked at a .5x factor - a speed only found in ships worked on by master builders.  She was armed fairly well additionally - Four laser cannons and two missile tubes gave it the ability to hold it's own.

Yet that was all worthless in this situation. The station's tractor beams were locked firmly around the craft, so there was no hope of escape. If he tried to exchange fire with the structure, he'd surely be gunned down The station assuredly had heavier weaponry then he did, and he had no ability to evade.

He had attempted to hail the station, but had not received a reply - Heck, there was no way to even know if they spoke common. What did he know about the inhabitants?

All he could do was wait - It was frustrating. He didn't know what would happen to him, or his ship. He had to sit around and find out.

Suddenly a blip appeared in empty space on his radar - A ship's engines flared on. Having nothing better to do as he drifted toward his destinatin, he focused his long range sensors on the craft. It was a freighter, regular-sized. It's engines made it highly detectable, and the sensor's examinations showed it's shields were quite strong.

Suddenly a soft alarm sounded - He was being directly scanned, by the freighter. Though he had just comitted the same action, he didn't want to give away any information himself. He rushed to jam the reading, but it by the time he activated the controls, he felt it was too late.

Suddenly his ship lurched - The Station had stopped pulling him forward, instead holding him in place. He considered attempting to pull away - Maybe he would be able to pull away...

The other ship made a slow turn, then increased it's velocity in his direction. The ship must be from the station. He thought, Probably taking a closer look before they decide what to do with me.

The ship was close enough to discern the details. It seemed to be Corellian, sporting the classic grey colours. It appeared old and worn, and many sections looked to have been patched or replaced at one point. He was sure the ship looked nothing like it's original form.

Suddenly his comm computer beeped. He opened up an audio connection, and feedback cackled over the speakers. "Prepare to be boarded."

The ship flew up over his view, and then a few moments later he heard a muffled thumping sound as it connected to the above hatch. Kal turned around and looked to the hall behind him, grabbing his blaster  (Despite the fact that he had no ability to hit a target with it, he had brought one along anyways in case of emergency). There was a hiss as the hatch opened, then a foot stepped down on the ladder...
