You buy stocks. They either go up or down. Then you sell them. -----------------------

Think of a stock as a piece of paper. Let's say you purchased 10 stocks (10 pieces of paper) for 20 credits a piece. This would cost you a total of 200 credits.
Now...let's say that same piece of paper (stock) just went up in value cause a lot of people want it. So now it's worth 30 credits per piece. So, you could sell it for 300 credits; which would net you a gain of 100 credits. The same holds true if the value of the stock went down in value.
The concept of a stock is fairly simple. The hard part is knowing when to buy one and when to sell it so you can make money. -----------------------

Stocks are also in RL and people buy and sell, you can also lose money on stocks, stocks in RL come into the forms of businesses, unfortunately I can not explain as well as The Kadman. -----------------------

Type things in google, like wall street or meryll lynch (a company that deals in stocks in RL) Its pretty much the same on imperitrade.  -----------------------

A stock is like an investment in a company. You give them money, and they try to make more. The key word is try. If they don't they would pay you less for it when you would turn it in, if they made money, then they would give you a part of that profit. -----------------------
