I'm of a rather different opinion which goes something like this:
d20 system sucks.
I like the star wars world, I like the D&D world, I despise the overcomplicated system that they use, even if I do know how to totally break it. -----------------------

the reason i was asking is cause since i joined in about May, i've only seen 2 rpg things, the JO thing and the other one w/ the Bradleys and Abrahams and the paratroopers. i was thinking about starting a d20 SWRPG group that could play via mIRC or comnet.

We really need some people to step forward and go to the trouble of being our GMs.
You don't even have to be good at it right off.
Just make the effort. If you have the books, try to see what preparation and resources you'd need to be a good one.
And...maybe it can be a paid position too. -----------------------

since i am to cheap to buy the premade adventures/campaigns, i have created a mini-adventure. it's kinda cool. you're on a giant freighter w/ a few passangers and then it's attacked by pirates. you have to get to the escape pods and the gravity randomly decreases and then fails. -----------------------

I'd typically be more then happy to GM, I do it all the time. Unfortunately, I don't have the net access to be on mIRC more mebbe 15 min per day. if anyone needs advice or info on the rules/equipment/characters/anything invlolving Star Wars or DnD, just ask. My group has almost every sourcebook out there. -----------------------

That's sweet actually. I have almost all the D20s (no Living Force campaigns) and a lot of the D6 but really I just use those for mission info and stats for the store. Weird huh?

The reason I ahven't responded is that my evil network admin has blocked my e-mail access, and I haven't found a way to get around it yet.
The game itself is fairly simple. First, you make a character, using the rules given. Your character has attributes:
Strength: duh
Dex: How quickly and well your character can move. Balance, reflexes, etc.
Con: Health
Int: Duh
Wis:Common sense/awareness
Cha: force of will, speaking abilities, attractiveness
You have skills, feats, and different saves.
You can do whatever you want. Your GM( basically, runs the world and everything in it but you and your group) will tell you what to do. Typically, you roll a d20, then add the appropriate bonus. You want to climb a rope, you roll a climb check.
You're gonna have to be more specific with your questions though. Ask about what part of the rules you don't get, because explaining everthing would take forever.

However there are two problems...I know the DnD rules, so that means i know all the basics etc.. but you really need to GM guide to GM in star wars.
The only other problem is that i'm on GMT so if i did it you'd have to come on early evening to play.

Oh and another thing to help people (if the same as DnD)
Each task that you can do (Shooting, climbing, sneaking and building) is performed in the following kind of ways:
For both types of check you have to do roll a dice and add modifiers.
lets say you roll 16
Firstly each type of skill has an associated characteristic (eg for sneaking past a guard dex) You add that first.
Some one with dexterity 12 gets +1 (i think?)
Then each character has skill points that you can distribute. So lets say our character has put 3 points into whatever skill it is for sneaking (Cant remember might be stealth or something) and gets +3 (might be +1 cant remember exatly how many points = +1)
Then you add modifiers for the condition The floor is creaky -2
So from this you have a total of 18 or 16. This pretty much goes for all things. When you attack every character has a base attack bonus to add based on strength or dexterity and ytou level and class.
There are two types of checks, one is when you are opposing someone and one is against a set value. So breaking down a door you might have to beat 18 with your score. And sneaking past a guard your GM will make a roll for the guard using similar modifiers based on their stats. If he wins he hears you, if you win he doesnt etc.
With attacks you'll have to beat a value based on their armour and how well they dodge etc..
If you can understand my pathetic attempt at explaining something then you're pretty much set to play as a beginner lol. Personally i quite like D20 and think its simply enough

You'd use IRC and dice rolling scripts that could simulate the randomness of the dice. Of course, no computer algorithm is ever TRUELY random, but eh, close enough.
