At 8 PM Eastern Time on 10/7/2001, a Role-Playing Game was held in #verpg.  It was to be, hopefully, the last game which used the West End Games d6 Star Wars Role-Playing system.  Unlike future games, players were assigned random character sheets of various Star Wars-like inhabitants. The basic premise was that two Intelligence Agents (Exar Kun; Zed Zeon) were privately given the assignment to find several wealthy citizens who had recently disappeared in the Varlon system.  These two agents had both been recently implicated in a scandal regarding corruption in Imperial Intelligence hierarchy and were informed that an individual from the Imperial Security Bureau was on their track. An anonymous Imperial Security Bureau official (Threeof4 : later : Cosmic) was privately tasked with apprehending the latter two minions of Imperial Intelligence and bringing them to justice. Meanwhile, a middle-aged doctor (War Woman) was unknowingly called to examine an individual who had fallen ill in the compartment of a disguised Grand Admiral Thrawn. Other characters included a big game hunter (Demi Wraith : later : Japer), and several galactic tourists (Japer : later : Paan; Jedi; Carson Napier, etc.) After four hours of playing, the role-playing game was called to a definitive close when only three haggard players remained and the shuttle had crashed on the jungle planet of Kandu. You may download a log of the game by clicking here.  (The log has been severely modified for clarity and condensed due to lapses in time). Will this game ever be continued?  Perhaps.  It depends on the enthusiam of the players to do so and whether the new RPG system is operational within the next few weeks. In future VE Role-Playing Games, the Wizards of the Coast d20 system will be used and the character sheets given to the players will match both their rank and positions in their repsective club divisions.  Dark Jedi Order members will also be endowed with the gift of being Force Sensitive.  The items they are equipped with will be the items which they have purchased from the Imperial Center Store.

We may have the option of continuing this game with the d20 system.  The characters aboard the shuttle could be swapped with Vast Empire members perhaps on a vacation. If you any ideas or suggestions for game session plots, feel free to email them ([email protected]), but remember what era we are playing in. While the rules may easily be extrapolated to help create a campaign in any Star Wars time frame, the Star Wars Role-Playing Game focuses that expanse into three eras.  The Rise of the Empire era covers the time from the election of Chancellor Palpatine to a few years before Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace which occurs thirty-two years before the events of A New Hope.  The Rebellion era covers the time of the Galactic Civil War, as depicted in the classic Star Wars films, Episodes IV, V, and VI. Finally, the New Jedi Order era is set twenty-five years after A New Hope.  The New Republic has been established, Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Knights are growing stronger, and the Yuuzhan Vong have begun an invasion of the galaxy. This is the time period currently being detailed in the Del Rey novel series. The Vast Empire RPG is wedged between the prior two eras: the Rebellion era and the New Jedi Order era.  In a linear sense, we are somewhere around the time of the Battle of Sluis Van when Grand Admiral Thrawn is at the peak of his power.  Remember that before submitting ideas. Also remember that fantastic ideas such as Vast Empire members bumping into Grand Admiral Thrawn will be considered.  We used a similar idea in our previous d6 RPG game.  It is no fun running around the Star Wars universe unless you meet some of its more notable characters.

His fate was destined to a foreign strand,
A petty fortress and a "humble" hand;
He left the name at which the world grew pale,
To paint a moral, or adorn a tale.
