Well, I thought I would post this in advance.
This weekend I will be attending the Vermont Civil War History Expo where I will reenact as a rebel! I will also be spending the night, and since the confederates didn't have computers (not sure about the Union  ) I won't either.
Then, a week from today, I will leave to go visit my relatives in Nashville. I will return July 1st (which I will point out is the 149th Aniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, a battle that changed the war and ultimately decided the fate of the Confederacy. Next year will be the 150th Anniversary, and I hope to be there at the huge reenactment).

Ah, I do so envy you Americans and your Civil War re-enactments! I mean, we have them in the UK too, but they are not the major events that they are for you. Shame really.

Correct me if I'm wrong, Ech, but Civil War reenactments seem to be a Southern fascination primarily, no? Do Yankees care? Certainly, we don't really do 'em over here in sunny California, but then again, we weren't particularly invested in the original contest, either. Yes. The Union reenactors get just as into it as we do. Up north in Vermont, it is a lot more prevalent, and after all, you can't have a battle with only the southerners. Also, I know of plenty of reenactment units in California including the 3rd Georgia Infantry, who my great-great-great-great grandfather fought for during the war. He fought in seven of the top ten bloodiest battles in the civil war, and survived all of them too, AND had children afterwards. If he had died in any of those, I wouldn't be here. He was also at Lee's surrender in Appomattox, and I figured out that he fought against troops from the town I now live in (in Vermont) in the Battle of Gettysburg. Anyway, I could go on and on and on. The Civil War Expo was great! The first day was a blast! I got in my uniform and joined up with the 2nd Mississippi. We did some marching and drilling, and some firing. I slept in a tiny little tent, and woke up to eat some hardtack. It was a great experience. Check out the photos below.
