Rowds crawled in behind the commando team, waiting for them to find a hard-line from which he could use to hack into the New Republic’s outpost’s computer systems. Although his main goal was to open a back door access for the Vast Empire, he was also supposed to create a copy of all the data he could find and send it to his commander.

“Alright, this here should be the hard-line, running into the main computer system of the New Republic outpost,” stated the leader. “Get to work, Navy guy.”

Pulling out a knife, Rowds cut away the covering of the wire. He then pulled out a wire with two pins on one side, putting the two pins on the hard-line. The other end he stuck onto the top of his Versafunction88 datapad, which had been modified for this mission with an external input device for increased input speed and a hard external data carrier. He then powered his datapad on.

------MicroData Technologies Personal Easy-Use! System------

------VE.VEN.SLCNG.RED.2.1.156.694.6944.99------

He chose the second option and waited.

------VE.VEN.SLCNG.RED.2.1.156.694.6944.99 Loading------

------Load Complete------

------Happy Slicing! ------

He then instructed the datapad to make a copy of all communications that would pass through the hard-line onto his datapad. The first communication came within three minutes. Opening it, he was disappointed to see that it was gibberish in its current state. He set up the encryption cracker, making sure to instruct it to save a log, and let it at the communication.

It eventually took approximately an hour to get the communication decoded. Once it was done, Rowds took a brief glance at it.

------Sentry Outpost 1232------

------Permanent Outpost Immaculate------

------Automated Message Identification Code 3379301A99345699LL------

------Green------

Taking a brief glance at the log he scrolled through it at found the encryption code was “Undecipherable”. Snorting at the idiocy to use a word for the encryption code, Rowds looked over some of the messages using the encryption code he had found. He found that all the automated messages had a code that would automatically route them into a data storage partition.

He then prepared his own ‘automated’ message.

------Sentry Outpost Slicers------

------Unpermanent Outpost Fools------

------Automated Message Identification Code 3379301A99345699LL------

------Green------

------For Now------

------End------

He embedded a small virus into the message, which would unpack itself onto the partition, then wipe the original message. Once it had accomplished, those tasks it would then establish a link with his datapad.

Smiling at the surprise the outpost was about to receive, Rowds sent the message along. In a few minutes, Rowds’ datapad established the connection between the virius and itself. Quickly tapping open statistics for the information, he saw that there was enough data to fill his datapad, and the external data carrier, over a few thousand times. Grimacing, he started contemplating ways to copy out the data.

Well, the plan was to carry the data out on a physical medium, but there is too much information to do that without coming here a thousand times. Unless, of course, a thousand data carriers fall from the sky right about now.

He quickly looked up to make sure it was actually not happening.

Maybe I could stream it over to my commanding officer, but would he have enough space?

He opened up a low-signature relay chat to his commanding officer.

@:Sir, do you have enough data space for about...well, just, make it a lot?

$: You’re supposed to not use this until you’re out of the field, unless you already are?

@:My apologies, but the need is urgent. I don’t have enough data space for the information.

$:And?

@:Could I live stream it onto a carrier at your location via this?

$: Fine. I’ll tell you when I’m ready.

$:Ready.

@:*REDACTED FOR BREVITY OF LOG*

$: It’s good. Carry on.

Rowds cut the connection, and proceeded into the heart of the system he was hacking. He laughed as he perused various security files. They had all been aimed at outside intrustion via the operating system. They had never even though of the idea of a new operating system being installed and being used to take down the system.  He was going to have some fun. He deleted the code that would delete the older messages when the data reached a certain percentage. He then cut into user accounts, taking all the privileges away from them. He also created a new account named ‘HaveFun’ with all privileges. He set up the password as ‘ReMeMbErWhOdIdThIs’. He then decompiled the user index and took ‘HaveFun’ out, so no one could see it existed. Recompiling it, he sent it back to its normal place. Ordering the virus to delete itself, he shutdown the datapad.

With a few muttered curses to unfreeze his legs from where he had been sitting, he pulled the data wires out, re-glued the covering back on, and smiled, knowing his job was done.

Signalling the commando team he was done, he opened up the relay chat again and sent one message.

@: NU: HaveFun PASS: ReMeMbErWhOdIdThIs
Have a good day!

I really appreciated your humor, here.  The "Happy Slicing!" from the datapad, and then the physical check to see if it was raining datapads... funny.  And the story satisfied the requirements of the Ancillary Skill just fine.  Passed.
